I am thrilled to present this collaboration with Paradox, the creators of Crusader Kings III, a grand strategy role-playing game set in the Middle Ages. It's such an honour to have been charged with writing a completely original song for their newest work: Legends of the Dead. This new core expansion deals with themes of death, fame, and glory, with a focus on how lineage and legend are inextricably tied to one another. It also introduces a new, insidious enemy-the plague itself.
Watch the release trailer for Legends of the Dead here (I'm singing at the end!): • Crusader Kings III: Le...
I was inspired by chivalric ideals, Arthurian legend, and images of the Lady of Shalott adrift in her boat. The beautiful illustration featured in this video is by N.C. Wyeth.
Lyrics:
Who shall mourn thee
Wash and shroud thee
Climb the belfry
Who shall vigil stand?
Who shall praise thee
Fear and hate thee
Save thy story
From the shifting sand?
Who shall carve thee
Mould and cast thee
Set thy form free
By their own right hand?

Thank you for lending your ears! It was a rewarding challenge to write an original song for CK3: Legends of the Dead, and I'm looking forward to playing. Please use my link if you'd like to check it out! play.crusaderkings.com/hildegardvonblingin
On the topic of legendary rulers, I think my favourite story would have to be the bitter feud between the Medieval Queens Fredegund and Brunhild. Do you have a favourite Medieval King or Queen?
So many to choose from. There are some well known favourites like Aethelflaed, Theophanu, Cnut, Matilda of Tuscany, Empress Matilda, Eleanor of Aquitaine, Philip Augustus and Frederick II. I’m quite interested in Henry the Fowler and Otto I at the moment, mostly because I’m doing a lot of reading about early medieval Germany.
Same, excited to hear the new song
I feel like the well known kings like Richard the Lionheart, Charlemagne, Wise King Cnut, Alfred the Great, James VI and I, and of course William the Conqueror have remained famous for good reason.
@@Blindeyeseesfar And giants like The Venerable Bede remain obscure just because they weren't Kings.
Catherine de Valois absolutely fascinates me, but there's so little known about her. Still, to marry for love...
Relaxing beats to succumb to the plague to 💯💯💯
You go koi
yo haeste.. i mean the grand koi is here
How did you post this 3 days ago when the video was only released hours ago💀
@@robertsiems3808 It's part of his legend fabrication, don't think too much about it
Top tier comment right here.😂
Thank you for the incredible music! Couldn't have asked for a better partner to collaborate with for this expansion.
Thanks again for trusting me with this! You were all a joy to work with.
this is such a cool collab/sponsorship, respect to both sides!
Great choice!
@@Hildegardvonblingin no way you actually made music for ck3
Collab with FAUN or SKALD when? 🙂
I am a simple woman. I see a Hildegard Von Blingin' notification and I click. I've yet to be disappointed.
Can't believe one of my favorite singers got to write a song for one of my favorite games!
I can't wait to lose my whole dynasty to plague
My condolences in advance.
this happened to me, sad sad day
Oh wow - don't get me wrong, I love the bardcore versions of pop and comedy bits that you usually do, but to have your talent recognised for something else is just fantastic. I'm so, so pleased for you.
I thought I recognised the vocals in the trailer! Awesome work, well done!
I’m so impressed that anyone could tell just from a short line! 🙏❤️
@@Hildegardvonblingin Your songs appear in my playlists so I do hear them quite often xD
@@Hildegardvonblingin You have a very distinctive voice! :-)
'Tis grand to hear thy voice so sweet and low
Upon a melody that soothes my soul
And takes my mind to legends long ago.
Thank you ever so much 🙏
@@Hildegardvonblingin You’re welcome.
Maybe it's because the present day seems so crazy and uncertain, but listening to music like this feels so comforting in comparison. Putting death and violence into a longer, more historical context and remembering that they've always been a part of the human story; we can find meaning and identify with the emotions of people in the past suffering these same emotions as we do.
You have the absolute perfect voice for this kind of music.
Never clicked on a notification so quickly lol! It's a good day when my ears are blessed with another Hildegard upload
May even consider buying the soundtrack now
Well, I know what song I am adding to my D&D playlist next
I KNEW IT WAS YOU!
I saw that first trailer for Season 3 of CK3. "Isn't that Hildegaard von Blingin'?"
Paradox did right by us all in understanding they needed you.
Well spotted, you didn’t have much to go on in that first trailer!
This is amazing! And a huge congratulations to you! 🥰 It's giving LOTR vibes with Enya and Annie Lennox! 🥹
Thank you! And well spotted, I definitely referenced all the songs created for LOTR while making this.
Is a Hildegard-LotR crossover something we need? how does your music tie into the LotR movies, Elvish or dwarven culture. What song would you remake?@@Hildegardvonblingin
This is what iw as thinking, reminds me of the stuff Eurielle puts out
@@Hildegardvonblingin In the Kyrie I also heard echoes of something a *lot* older: Tomas Luis de Victoria? Gesualdo? Whoever it was, I loved it.
I was going to say that it reminded of Boromir. And then I cried.
I CANT BELIEVE IT! I left a comment on the Chapter 3 trailer that came out like a month ago because I could of swore the 5 second clip they use was your voice! Nobody else seemed to agree and I thought I was insane! Beautiful song! Im so glad they chose you for this!
You called it!!! ❤️
Dropped everything when the notification hit, and the sheer chills from this absolutely enveloped me.
This is beyond beautiful, thank you for this.
I appreciate your haste! Thank you 🙏
Eure Melodie entzückt das Gemüt. Der Herr segne und behüte euch, wertes Weib.
It's been years since I had full-body chills, but this very much had my hairs stand on end. A very beautiful if slightly haunting sounding melody. I prayeth thee Hildegard will continue having great success like this henceforth.
It’s so good I can’t even decide whether to gush over your voice or your breathtaking COMPOSITION SKILLS, oh my gosh.
In some ways the latter means much more to me because I’m still relatively new to composition, but thank you so much on both counts!
@@Hildegardvonblingin Oh please keep it up and compose more! You have been blessed with not one but two amazing talents, and I think you need to use them. We certainly need them both! 💗
Good to see Paradox partnering with the real ones for this release!
Someone close to me just lost her two sons. I needed this to allow me to cry. Thank you lady for allowing me to cry. Merci madame de me permettre de pleurer quand c’est le temps des pleurs. Here is a French translation:
Qui te pleurera
Qui te lavera et t'enveloppera
Montera au clocher
Qui veillera ?
Qui chantera ta louange
Qui te craindra et te haïra
Sauvera ton histoire
Du sable mouvant ?
Qui te sculptera
Te moulera et te coulera
Révélera ta forme
De sa propre main droite ?
Kyrie Eleison
Kyrie Eleison
Kyrie Eleison
Kyrie Eleison
What I understand is that it is a mourning song in three acts: the first verse worries about the body of the deceased to be prepared, the second verse worries about the story of the deceased to be told, and the third verse worries about the image of the deceased to be preserved. Edit: The Kyrie is the fourth act, because what remains is the lament of the living ones.
I am very sorry.
I hope and wish that both of you will find comfort where you least expect it on the journey you must take now. My thoughts are with you. 💔
Goosebumps! A new favorite! Congratulations on the collaboration!
Amazing! Good for PDX for recognizing your talent
Yes! I'm so glad more developers are realising and utilising your incredible talent, Hildegard! While I do not know of/ play this game, I loved bg3 and your incredible singing! I am so happy you are getting paid for your talent and passion! ❤🎉👏
Love this! Grats on the collab!
Holy smokes, Hildegard von Blingin doing music for a Crusader Kings game! Two of my favorite things combined!
Imagine sitting in your Great Hall, having a lush Banquet and this angellic Voice starts to enlighten the whole Room. No wonder they thought they were God's chosen Rulers of the World.
A beautifully haunting melody and voice!
I heard a piece in the trailer and I instantly knew it was you, beatiful as always.
Will this be added to spotify?
It is Thursday 14 March. Why has this divine masterpiece only just popped up on my notifications..? 😢 Dearest Mistress Hildy 👑, I thank thee for thy exquisiteness of voice and song. The only fault, it was not long enough. Please, please, produce a cd of all your incredible works. Regards, Sophie an ordinary wench from Adelaide, Australia 🇦🇺 🍸🍸💚🩵💙
The part where you sing "Kyrie eleison" feels like a balm for the soul.
Incredible song❤. You had me at " who shall mourn thee "
Always a delight whenever you upload.
Pure perfection. So beautiful
Such a beautiful requiem. It perfectly captures the bittersweet fact of being remembered, for great or evil deeds. We can't decide how history will remember us, only how we live today.
I am listening to this as the rains fall on such a grey day. Perfect
You work is always as beautiful as crystal goblets, and this one has the bonus of being absolutely haunting. I had chills! Thank you so much for sharing! (And Paradox for having the excellent taste to commission the work!)
Beautiful voice that's calming my stressful morning.
so grateful to you for adding FRESH music, with lyrics, to my dnd playlist!! this DM appreciates you :)
You really are a beautiful singer! I've no idea what Crusader Kings is, but this a gorgeous piece of music.. thanks!
Amazing collab between my fave simulator and medieval musician
this one is absolutely going in the playlist once its out on spotify
Even one who doesn't know the game (I had to look it up) can feel this angelic creation strike straight to the soul. It's universal. I don't play CK3 but I do read history, and it seemed to me when I heard your voice that you were mourning not only the victims of the Great Mortality but of every plague that has ever beleaguered our world--every human being who has ever had to die knowing that no one will be alive to remember them. From every grieving heart...thank you.
Try it, the game is amazing
I'm so glad I appreciated your music before. But now you're also part of Paradox with this music. Just thank you!
I had to do a double take when I saw this! Who could have imagined a more perfect collaboration!
Wtf, I'm so proud of you I remember when you had so few followers and new to the scene during COVID I think it was, perhaps a little before hand. Now your working with Paradox. Well done seeing this made me so happy, thank you!
I am so glad compnies are recognizing your talent and offering commissions. Well done.
Wow, perfect crossover!
This is spectacular!! The tune, lyrics and feel are perfect! It has just the right balance of sadness and eeriness! VERY well done.
I have just watched ever single video you’ve ever posted. Holy shit, holy shit, I’m obsessed
That is just nexxt level. I am often listening to you when playing CK3 - and now you're featured. That's just so amazing.
Commenting and liking to tickle the algo, I hope more and more people get to witness your voice and artistry!
If they ever make a Silmarillion movie…you were meant to be in the soundtrack. Absolutely Gorgeous.
Thank you so much, I would be so honoured. ❤️
Indeed very relaxing. Thank you.
Sing Angel, Sing!
Fav game and fav artist, how could I ever ask for more?
Crusader Kings and Hildegard Von Blingin. These are a few of my favorite things.
The serene song of a fair maiden, beauty is her voice, a magical melody of mythical mystery, shall be etched into the bedrock of history.
Woh! Loving it. Oh yes! Album of original works and Hildegard works please :) The voice, oh the voice. As a lullaby sings a babe to sleep if I pass into the next realm listening to HvB I'll go in peace.
Here from the Trailer, nice work!
I am travelling today and I just heard this. It fills me with a great sense of calm and courage. It’s absolutely beautiful! Love it ❤
Such a beautiful piece of music.
I love these collaborations. It is nice to see people recognizing your talent ❤
I actually thought of this song after the French branch of my dynasty was whiped out by an outbreak of Chicken Pox, then an outbreak of Cow Pox.
This is art.
I hope they keep reaching out to you because you got the talent their games need. Could probably do stuff for stellaris as well depending on dlc themes.
The collab to end all collabs!
Simply a beautiful piece of music! What a moment in history to have this be part of crusader kings legend! Well done Hildegard 🎉
I literally cannot love this enough.
OMFG! PDX is killing it with their sponsorships on this DLC!
oh hell yeah, i love ck3, so happy they got you to do something with em :)
Thank you! Absolutely, it felt like a perfect fit.
First Baldur's Gate, now this, it's so cool to see such collaborations ! I wish you many more in the future, your work is amazing ❤
OMG this is so absolutely gorgeous and incredibly moving! You have done it again!❤❤❤❤
Wow. I didn't see this coming at all. So fitting. Absolutely gorgeously written. So fucking cool that you got to write something for the expansion. Holy shit that rules.
I remember bardcore becoming a bit of a meme in ye days of covid. I never expected one of them to end up in a collab with ck3.
This is the crossover I never expected but was secretly hoping for
What a fucking banger, goddamn!
What an awesome crossover!
It should be illegal to include so many goosebumps in a song!
Been listening to your songs gor a while. Glad your brilliance is being noticed out there, good for you and hope for even grander things to come from your career!
The Total War series used music to such great effect - it's an excellent 'short-cut' to atmosphere & being immersed in the period. Nothing else comes close.
Awesome, congratulations on getting this gig! I'm glad your work will reach a wider audience! The crusader king series is really good.
That voice 🥺 It's perfect
Chilled to the core. Amazing, not just audibly but lyrically as well!
To 1 Million!! Let's goooooooooooooooooooo!
Absolutely stunning as always
I instantly recognized your voice in the trailer. so beautiful❤🥺
Beautiful music as always! Congratulations on the opportunity to work with those developers; you knocked it out of the park!
Congratulations on CK3!
May this go positively virulent.
She has a very nice voice. The instrumental is always on point as well.
Hearken! For Lady Hildegard's fame hath spread far and wide throughout ye lands, and now she doth sing to inspire ye crusaders!
Good grief this is fantastic!
What a banger. As much as I love the covers. I am glad people are using your talents to add lyrics to beautiful songs.
This is the greatest collab of all time!
I knew I recognized that voice!
Wow! It's honestly so inspiring seeing you get recognition from a game as big as Crusader Kings. Congrats! You earned it
Very wonderful! I have been waiting centuries for some good music again.
Amazing! awesome that you got to make a song for CK 3!
Didnt expect this colab at all but im here for it
Passing into Glory, but Fading into History
