  • Today we gonna talk about a topic that disturbed me for a long time. But this doesn’t mean you can’t ask me questions, I don’t really care, but I still hope it’s just for curiosity not racism.
And sorry for my pronunciation and spelling. I’m still learning this language. Let’s keep on practicing 🗣️🗣️🗣️

    An American opinion:
The other unconventional foods you mentioned are scrutinized as well (at least in the USA). Animal rights activists have been trying to get the production of foi gras banned for years, and people usually consider it immoral to eat. As for snails, yes they are generally considered as a weird food but no one really considers it immoral. Generally speaking most people in the usa don't know about the kangaroo meat or capybara meat but my guess is most people would be put off by those as well.
Dogs have a personal connection to humans which is why many people would consider consuming dog meat immoral. They would also consider it desperation food because the assumption is that they are stray dogs caught for consumption. The reason people are asking Chinese about dog meat is because that rumor is commonly spread for many years (it has even been used as a cheap racist joke in comedic media in the usa especially in the 80s - 90s).
The USA has had a history of racism towards asians, especially Chinese. There has been a lot of anti Chinese propaganda in political media. But I would say in recent years you generally don't see this negative portrayal in the media anymore because awareness is being spread but people still may have this dog meat impression and feel compelled to ask about it (Especially people who don't travel and are ignorant to the world. Or they are very young and just don't know any better).
Edit: Even though we have many different people here, America as a whole is not known for being educated on other cultures. And people get brainwashed by the media and make assumptions based on the little information they receive without caring enough to do their own research (especially the older generations).

I listened patiently to all that you had to say, and your video on this topic is well thought out and you were able to explain your reasoning. I was able to completely understand what you said other than the occasional mis-pronounced word here or there, good thing you included the sub-titles. But, more importantly, the content of your subject matter was very sound and you were able to articulate it well. I (British) have visited China several times with Chinese family and eaten various things not on the tourist menu. My conclusion is that while some things Westerners criticise Chinese for killing and eating are indeed 'delicacies' many others are just what poor people had to eat in the bad old days, and have been elevated to the status of 'local delicacy' or 'traditional recipe' with little merit. I have eaten dog. Its OK, I'm not upset about it but on the other hand I wouldn't miss it if it were unavailable. I have eaten tortoise. That did make me sad because wild populations are threatened, yet this 'delicacy' was rubbery and tasteless.

1:48 hey, not trying to be rude here cause i understand how complicated english can be with so many different versions of words. Just wanted to make a small correction. You said "in some parts of china, eating dog meat is part of their local tradition, like dof meat festive". In this context you should say "festival" instead of "festive". Also your english is fantastic. I learned some mandarin back in 2017 and got to visit shenzhen for like 2 weeks. You may argue for veganism in general or not, but dog meat is obviously a cultural thing. Personally I recognized this when feeding goats. Goats are "emotional" , "sweet", and "intelligent" animals. Still goats are treated as live stock in any way. The bonding between humans and horses was even closer than with dogs, still people eat horses even in Europe today. In Germany they ate grasshoppers not only in times of famine. This is now memory holed. If you look into the French and Scandinavian cuisine you find the "weirdest" stuff there, but nobody asks the Swedes if they are are eating sea animal foeti.

Excellent video! I loved the parrot's sudden appearances 🥺 My view on this topic is that I think slaughtering large numbers of animals for food is inherently cruel, so I don't eat any meat. However, it is cultural chauvinism to say that it is somehow more moral to kill and eat cows than it is to kill and eat dogs. I think it is specifically the torture inflicted on animals, and the arbitrary shortening of their lifespans, that makes eating meat cruel. Therefore, I think situations like the ones you mentioned, wherein some hungry people occasionally ate their dogs at the natural end of their lives, are actually MORE moral than people eating factory-farmed beef and chicken and pork every day.

Nice English. All of your points were easily understandable! I'd say for this issue there needs to be more humane farming. I'm lessening meat and I'm hopefully going to eat little to none in a few years.
About the dog thing in China, there is a dog meat festival in Yulin that tortures dogs and cats before using them for meat. This isn't an old traditional festivaI as it started in 2009. I have seen videos where dogs are skinned alive and they are just in a pile waiting to die staring at the sky or themselves. I seen dogs that are boiled alive so their hair can be removed before being killed. The conditions of the dogs and cats are horrible too stuffed in cages and thrown around with broken limbs while being transported. Another thing I heard about but didn't see that some dogs have their limbs cut in front of them while they are still alive and the limbs are cooked. This probably isn't just China but it's more known because of the festival with social media becoming a big factor too. Stereotypes are bad and I know a lot of Chinese people don't eat dog or cat meat. I do know that China was at a point of widespread famine a long time ago so anything that they can eat for energy was needed then.
My parents are from the Philippines(I'm born in the US) but they don't eat dog/cat meat too, but there are some provinces that eat dog/cat meat as well. If things in the meat industry for any animal were a bit more humane, I would be fine. I'm trying my best though every now and then donating to many animal organizations in the US and ones that help animals in Asia.

The real topic is: why are people arbitrarily opposed to eating dog as compared to any other animal? People in India probably think the billions in the West who eat cows are terrible, but I’ve never had an Indian person “accuse” me of eating beef. In the same way, I don’t begrudge anyone who eats their local food source, and I personally love dogs.

When you grow up with the whole mans best friend pet thing (which is correct suck it cat owners) it's hard to comprehend. Indians consider the cow holy which is still a different feeling from the companion you grew up with. I don't mind dog eaters (besides some of the crueler farms in korea but i dont like cruel farms and slaughterhouses in general) but i can understand the sort of shock you get when you hear it. Hell i had it too when i had dog in Korea it felt "wrong" by lack of a better way of putting it.

Because dog is man's best friend and also dog is also a carnivore. It's a little off for many of us to eat other carnivores. Omnivore (pig) and cow (herbivore) are fine to eat, as it seems more natural in that context of herbivore gets eaten by carnivore. Horse meat on the other hand is more OK, horses are also not traditionally used for that but in times of war they have been eaten.

Congratulations on your English mastery, it is very good. The dog meat, or horse meat issue is similar, although dog meat eating by Asians was spread by culture biased supremacists I believe. Some indigenous Arctic people eat dog I've read somewhere, or the explorers I know did like Scott going to South Pole. Scott should have done what Amundsen did by skiing there. I have some Dine' heritage from Sub-Arctic Canada besides Anishinabe in Eastern Canada that may have used dog for food I imagine. My doctor looked at my genes and said I have Dorset in me, which I never knew. My paternal side does go back to French settler times. My great, great, great Chipewyan grandmother is the only one I know of. The Navajo' recognized me because of her, also Dine' people. Your bird is cool.

Like, yeah, we work six days a week, 10 to 12 hours a day and then go out hunting cats in our spare time, ya know to rip you off by cutting your chicken with 3% cat meat. Smh. Don’t even bother arguing with them that it never seems to actually turn up in the news because their uncle’s cousin’s nephew’s niece saw a raccoon in a dumpster behind a restaurant. I tell them to find me a article or link because clearly that’s something that would be in the news. They even get mad but I actually had to tell one person that it was offensive to me not because I’m a snowflake or politically correct but because they were actually asking me if I would work at a place that serves dogs and cats when I’ve gone over a decade without a speeding ticket or being late to work because I’m trying to get a baby bird to a rescue twenty miles out of my way before work. Btw I’m not Asian so I guess they thought they’d get the inside scoop from me. Whatever.
