      It was a request during last year's food guide. I hadn't done it much last year because Disney prices and menus are known to change frequently. BUT the resounding comment was that it helps folks know both what types of food are offered as well as a general price range so they know how to budget, so I made a point of doing it for every restaurant this year.
      Glad you found it helpful!

    The cold brew in galaxy's edge is the best I've had anywhere. The pineapple sugar cookie from pooh's corner is delicious! Overall, the fact that disneyland feeds 50,000 visitors per day, the food offerings are pretty dang good. The variety from simple items to inventive dishes is designed to meet most palates.

      You’re spot on. I’ve heard some people complain that Tiana’s Gumbo is terrible because it’s not authentic, and here I am thinking it tastes great. I imagine that if it were truly “authentic” that it would turn off a lot of people, and Disney has to make food that most people will eat as genuinely close as possible without going the wrong direction.

      @SoCalDisneyDad  7 месяцев назад

      The green milk is the one I had first, and it was okay, but I gave almost all of it to my kids who seemed to not care what it tasted like. But when I had the blue milk some time later I thought it was so much better than than green milk I wanted the whole thing myself.
      I'm not sure if it's because I had the green milk to compare it to, or if I wouldn't have liked it either if I had it first, but I do think I'd genuinely get it again, so I think I just like it. I have only gotten it the once, though.

    I just got back to Texas after a Disneyland trip. My family's favorite at Disneyland was the corn chowder at Jolly Holiday Bakery. We were not impressed with the overpriced gingerbread cookie but loved the Matterhorn macaroon. We enjoyed the gumbo at Cafe Orleans, and I liked the Hurricane! The Bengal BBQ skewers were disappointing due to the small serving, but they were tasty. AT DCA, we loved the Sanfrantokyo elote style corn at Cocina Cucamonga and the lettuce wraps and bao buns at Carthay Circle. We got some better meals by going out to Downtown Disney.

    • @SoCalDisneyDad
      @SoCalDisneyDad  7 месяцев назад

      Bengal BBQ is a place we love to eat at, but rarely do because of the overpriced skewers. I need like 3-4 to fill me up and that costs like $21-$28. Which is fairly high for a meal at Disneyland.
      What’s your favorite place at Downtown Disney? We haven’t eaten there a whole lot. Just the Pizza and Mexican places.

    We bought tickets at Get Away Today and loved their service. The "extra day free" offer is somewhat misleading though. You don't get an extra day free, you buy a 5 day ticket and pay for about 4, just as at the gate or other ticket vendors. We expected a 6th day for free when we bought the 5 day ticket. No big deal, but just something to keep in mind when buying park tickets.

    • @SoCalDisneyDad
      @SoCalDisneyDad  7 месяцев назад +1

      That's generally how those offers work, but it's still better than booking direct with Disneyland.
      I just priced out a 5-day park hopper via Disneyland for a family of 4 and it came to $2,160. Get Away Today is $2,010, or a savings of $150. Is it earth shattering? No, but I'll take any savings I can get.
      On top of tickets, Get Away has hotel offers too. If I were to book the Clarion(their preferred hotel for whatever reason) on my own, it would be $638. With Get Away it's $518.
      So a total package savings of $270, or about 10% off booking direct.

    Do you have any videos on the downtown Disney and/or resort hotel dining (craftsman, Napa rose, etc)?

    • @SoCalDisneyDad
      @SoCalDisneyDad  7 месяцев назад +1

      I have some old reviews for different restaurants, but nothing definitive like this guide for Downtown Disney.
      We rarely eat there, so I don’t have much first hand experience or footage for such a video.
      I can say that Storytellers is my favorite of the restaurants in that area of the park with Naples being a close second. But I also have never eaten at Napa Rose or the Craftsman table service.
      Tangaroa Terrace is really good too for quick service.

    Thank you for a great video! I’ve been to Disneyland 6 times and still learned a lot from your food guide. By the way, I tried using your promo code for a 5-day pass and it didn’t work. Does it only work with hotel packages? Greetings from Vancouver, Canada!

      Yes, correct. It only works for packages. You can still book the tickets through my link and I’ll get a small commission at no extra cost to you, but the code only works if you have a hotel combined with it.

    It's a shame about Blue Bayou! We used to love that restaurant and would always order the surf and turf (lobster tail with filet mignon) and my husband would order the rack of lamb they used to make. Over the years, the dishes we loved dissappeared and in its place were smaller, spicy, substitutes with hardly any tasty sides like the mashed potatoes and vegetables they used to serve. We go to Cafe Orleans now instead and love the rib roast, chicken, or pasta with shrimp we've had there. Our granddaughter loves the kids meal with the shrimp! The chicken your kids had didn't look that great. Do they like seafood? You should do a video on the best kid meals in Disneyland. Carthay Circle is our top choice in DCA even though it costs more. The alfresco dining saves some money and everything is so delicious! My grandaughter loves the casadillas on their kids meal options. We also love Tangaroa Terrace for breakfast! Those Japanese Pancakes are sooooo good! 😋

    Thank you SO much for another fantastic video and also for the straightforward, unsugar-coated reviews. Thumbs up!
    2 questions:
    1. My daughter and I LOVED the shrimp and grits at Tiana's back in October. Do you know if it's maintained its quality? I'm not hearing any buzz about it anymore.
    2. Can you say which short rib is better - the one at Carnation Cafe, or the one from Cafe Orleans? Thank you in advance!

    • @SoCalDisneyDad
      @SoCalDisneyDad  7 месяцев назад

      I’ve not had the shrimp and grits at all, so I couldn’t say. I do, however, feel that the food has normalized a bit. And what I mean is that they were working at their very best during the first month or so, and now it’s just the quality that they can consistently churn out day in and day out. I just had the Gumbo and Mac and Cheese on Wednesday and still feel very good about those options, but can’t speak to the grits.
      And I also don’t think you can go wrong with either short rib. The only table service I’m not wild about is Blue Bayou because I feel like you are paying for the atmosphere, not food.

    • @pixiepinkcrystalsrosetta7027
      @pixiepinkcrystalsrosetta7027 7 месяцев назад +1

      I had the gulf shrimp and grits back in September and I loved it! Never had it before then. Cafe Orleans does the braised beef short rib the best in my opinion and the portion size seems larger to me.

    I’m going to Disneyland for SweetHearts night this year, do you have any info or tips/advice for the after hour events

    • @SoCalDisneyDad
      @SoCalDisneyDad  7 месяцев назад

      The only after hours event I've been to is Oogie Boogie. I want to go to Star Wars Nite this year. Maybe next year the channel will be large enough for me to try all of them, but they're expensive, so I've got to be selective.
      So I don't have any Sweethearts tips, but after hours in general, make sure you should up as soon as your ticket lets you in at 6 PM to maximize your time.
      If you have regular day tickets and will be in the park earlier that day anyway, then you should be aware that you WILL have to check in for the event at some point, and that will require exiting and scanning in again on your event ticket after the mix-in begins at 6 PM. But I wouldn't go right away because there might be a long line right at 6 PM. At least there is for OBB, I can't speak for Sweethearts.
      After that, I really can't speak to the event. Hopefully those little tidbits are somewhat helpful!

    We liked sitting by the ride for Zocalo too until we saw a roach recently. A BIG roach. Lol I know it's going to happen at theme parks, no way around that but I got the heebie jeebies and I don't think I could relax there anymore, especially with any bags not up on the table or something. It's also pricier to eat there.
    Daisy's in ToonTown is suprisingly good for the price, not as bad as I thought when our kids begged us to eat there. Lol 😂 I love the lemonade and doughnuts.
    I think the Grey Stuff is GROSS and overpriced AF. It's a barely flavored cookies-and-cream "icing" on a flavorless shortbread cookie.
    The place next to Tiki Room/Jungle Cruise is a favorite actually. For Disney. Sitting next to the water is fun!
    Honestly we prefer CA Adventure for food. Especially the area with pasta, pizza etc. Over by Goofy's ride. And we also like the new SanFransokyo place! I know this video is for Disney but we have passes and prefer that park to Disney for dining.

      I’ve never been, so I can’t speak to it, but I will tell you what I’ve told others in the past.
      The only after hours event I’ve been to is Oogie Boogie Bash.
      If it’s similar, know that people will line up around 45 minutes before the “mix-in” begins which I believe is 6 PM for Sweethearts Nite.
      What that means is that if you don’t have day tickets, you’ll want to get there around 5:15-5:30 so that you can maximize your time in the park before the event begins.
      If you DO have park tickets that day, then you’ll need to leave the park at some point before the event begins and reenter with your event ticket to get your wristband that allows you access after the park closes.
      DCA had a secondary check in location where you didn’t need to leave, but I can’t remember if that was Magic Key only or for anyway, but it was deep inside the park, not near the entrance. Disneyland may have a secondary check-in location for guests already inside the park as well, but I have no idea where it is.
      I do hope to go to Star Wars Nite this year, but that doesn’t really help you.
      Hopefully this little bit of insight is helpful to some degree though.

    Is the prices we see the actual price or is there tax added? Is there a tip added at a sit down restaurants? We also need to consider exchange rates from Australian to USD 😮

    • @SoCalDisneyDad
      @SoCalDisneyDad  Месяц назад

      @@x2fishyy_108 All American prices are pre-tax, and tips of at least 18% are expected at table service, sit-down type restaurants.
      So if your subtotal (the menu price) is $150 (this is approximately a $30 dish and drink for 4 people). The total with a 7.75% sales tax is $161.62. Add in an 20% tip (which is a bit more standard), and that’s $191.62.
      Make the USD to AUD conversion and you’re looking at a $283 AUD meal.
      For quick service, the average cost for a party of 4 full entrees at one meal would be roughly $60. That’s $64.65 after tax. No tip as it’s quick service (fast food).
      Thats $95 AUD.

    After visiting Seaworld SanDiego last month and trying some food there, I can honestly say that Disneyland is like a fine gourmet restaurant in comparison. I threw out an entire meal at SeaWorld - who knew you could make a burger so disgusting it was inedible?!

    • @SoCalDisneyDad
      @SoCalDisneyDad  6 месяцев назад

      Just about any restaurant in Disneyland or DCA that’s open for breakfast is going to have coffee on their mobile order. Nothing too fancy, just a coffee. The speciality beverages are around, too. Like the cold brew black caf at Docking Bay.
      I’d recommend just poking around the mobile order menus at home. Just go through motions as if you’re going to order. You can back out without having to pay or anything and it lets you look at the menus.
      We are doing this right now for planning our WDW food. We just scroll around the park map set to Dining and click on the different options, then see what they have. If there’s something that catches our eye, I write it down in my spreadsheet along with location and price.

      It’s still there but I missed it because Disney doesn’t have it listed on their website. 😅 Strange, yes, but it’s on the mobile order list in the app.
      There’s also no seating at all, so it could be lumped in with “carts” which I didn’t really cover.
