I was a chronic mouth breather. I've always struggled breathing through my nose, I just could not get any airflow through my nostrils, also had issues with sleep apnea. I began to do Wim Hof on a daily basis through the nose. It was a real struggle at first.. but now I effortlessly breathe through my nose even when I go for long runs. Changed my life
That’s true. But in my case, when I first started, the vigorous breathing through my nose caused sinus inflammation that gave me crazy headaches. When I switched to mouth breathing, the headaches went away!
Yes for sure! I believe he means when we are doing breathwork practices. In my experience mouth breathing is awesome for releasing density and trapped emotions/trauma. It's definitely a big no for normal breathing through the day 🙏
I tried mouth breathing when I first started almost three years ago and my mouth and throat got very dry. I'm sticking with nose breathing and I'm sticking with Wim! I am in my seventies and I was able to work up to holding for two minutes. Sometimes I feel I could hold longer and we'll see what happens. So grateful for this amazing practice. Wim, you're a rock star!❤💖💖🙏💫
I gave up smoking four years ago after doing it for 30 years. I’m already able to hold my breath for over 2 minutes (edit: I’ve now managed 5 minutes when I tried this on a day I was fasting. Quite frankly something I would have considered impossible!), I’m completely shocked. Everyone should try this!
I used to work for a functional orthodontist who uses myofunctional therapy. Always nasal breath. Mouth breathing causes so many long-term issues. Nasal breathing produces nitrous oxide which helps you feel calmer. Also keep your tongue on the roof of your mouth and lips sealed whenever you can. Tongue laying on the roof of the mouth activates the vagus nerve which also helps regulate your nervous system. If you have difficulty with these things then you should invest in myofunctional therapy.

Ive been doing it for 5 or 6 years. At first I tried mouth breathing and it made my mouth dry. Now I do nose breathing and I love it. Wim Hof you are a star!
From a medical standpoint breathing into your nostrils helps produce nitric oxide in your blood. Nitric oxide helps you have better blood flow to your entire body. So actually it is better to breathe through your nostrils.
You can't get nitric oxide through mouth breathing so the best thing is nasal breathing and when you're breathing out with your nose hum it releases maximum nitric oxide!
In my experience what you say is 100% correct. Doing two daily sessions of Wim Hof breathing knocks out any ear nose throat infection. I believe it is because of the NO production through nasal breathing
Nose breathing is the natural way, as the nose has some filters. But during the WHM I noticed that I can extend my retention time with mouth breathing. And this is the only situation in which I inhale with my mouth. What about you guys ?.
Yes mouth breathing is awesome to go deeper and really Supercharge the experience! It all depends on whether you want to release dense energy or go on a journey 🔥🙏
Breathing through the nose releases a gas called nitric oxide which is used to increase blood flow and reduce blood pressure. So unless you’re doing the WHF breathing, you should always aim to breathe through your nose.
Mouth breather here, When breathing though my mouth I feel like I receive more oxygen and can hold much longer at the bottom of the exhale, I recently hit 2 and a half minutes, Im also a avid swimmer and using the same method I can stay under water much longer than my friends who have only taken a couple breaths. Wim thank you so much for you education on this technique. Especially the 30, 90 breathing which has made me into a much more solid person. 🤝🤝
Mouthbreathing however is inferior in its effects on your body than nasal breathing. All mammals are supposed to breathe through the nose, only sea mammals do not.
The easiest way to learn to inhale fully, I learnt from singing lessons a few years ago, is to think of the vowels oo aah and ee for diaphragm, chest and head.
As a singer I'd say that mouth breathing will dry the throat quite fast... So I breathe 80 to 90% through the nose and fill up the rest with the mouth. Love your technique! Thanks man❤❤❤
Breathing through the nose has benefits that breathing through the mouth doesn’t. Your nose’s structure, for example, helps to filter toxins. Breathing through the mouth is inherently shallow, almost sharp and thus has more of an aggressive effect on the nervous system. Nasal breathing triggers greater use of your diaphragm and thus invites a deeper breath and more oxygen into the system.
It does matter! Always inhale through your nose unless you're exerting yourself. It matters because the nasal passage cleans, moistens, and warms the air. Also mouth breathing in growing children can lead to speech pathologies and underdeveloped mouth and jaw structure.

I always breathe through my nose naturally but when I do an x 3 deep exercises as I clip my nose hair my nose gets super sensitive & I need to use my mouth. I’ve tried several times to do it via my nostrils but too sensitive. I also feel you can inhale much more air & much quicker than via the nose. I love the feeling of the energy rushing around my body which is better in my opinion when you can inhale big intakes of air. Rather than slow controlled. I like big in & outs from the off 😊
I do 10 through the nose, 10 through the mouth, 10 nose, 10 mouth. Works for me. Stops me getting dry throat. Depends how many breaths I want to do until I feel the tingling

Nose breathing and mouth breathing are different. When you breath from nose u can store oxygen in lungs in the other hand if breath using mouth all your air/oxygen go in the stomach. Lungs are for air filteration process not stomach.
Not sure why it's even a discussion. The mouth is a bigger hole than the nostrils, so I need to breathe through my mouth if I need more oxygen quicker.

The mouth is for eating & talking.
@@UnschoolingCOM True, idk why he said that
@@UnschoolingCOM He talks about the best way to breathe when he does his method, for example when he goes into cold water. Not particuraly for daily breathing. I breathe through my mouth usually because it's easier, my nostrils are small I guess ;p

Pranayama 3 part breathe requires mouth breathing and is definitely not bad for you.
There is no "always".

Gracias
Everyone has been given a gift from God some people keep their gifts to them selves others share their gifts with the world... I just want to say thank you for sharing your gift my brother! God bless you and your family 🙏🏼❤️💯
In yoga it's strictly nasal breathing only.
Not only in yoga, nose is meant for breathing purpose and is natural and best gift from God.
Hi Wim.. Thanks for the knowledge . Can diabetic retinopathy patient do the breathing technique ??
Mouth breathing you get more dry mouth.
Top tip I got was put your tounge above mouth to stop dry mouth that will happen taking that many deep breaths.
Hello, is the dynamic breathing exercise able to be done everyday? I’ve tried it works great but curious if it’s fine to be done daily?
I have been practicing for about 2 weeks, I enjoy it very much but I feel pain/pression in my chest all day long for about 3 or 4 days and it's getting worse. To the unfortunate point this mornings I think I might skip training.
I'd like your advise on this Wim.
( I doubt this is the Right place to ask but I don't known where to)
Cheers
My guy ❤
