I was a chronic mouth breather. I've always struggled breathing through my nose, I just could not get any airflow through my nostrils, also had issues with sleep apnea. I began to do Wim Hof on a daily basis through the nose. It was a real struggle at first.. but now I effortlessly breathe through my nose even when I go for long runs. Changed my life

I used to work for a functional orthodontist who uses myofunctional therapy. Always nasal breath. Mouth breathing causes so many long-term issues. Nasal breathing produces nitrous oxide which helps you feel calmer. Also keep your tongue on the roof of your mouth and lips sealed whenever you can. Tongue laying on the roof of the mouth activates the vagus nerve which also helps regulate your nervous system. If you have difficulty with these things then you should invest in myofunctional therapy.

From a medical standpoint breathing into your nostrils helps produce nitric oxide in your blood. Nitric oxide helps you have better blood flow to your entire body. So actually it is better to breathe through your nostrils.

Breathing through the nose has benefits that breathing through the mouth doesn’t. Your nose’s structure, for example, helps to filter toxins. Breathing through the mouth is inherently shallow, almost sharp and thus has more of an aggressive effect on the nervous system. Nasal breathing triggers greater use of your diaphragm and thus invites a deeper breath and more oxygen into the system.

What helped me to see the beautiful things on this earth is to go into nature and really observe what is happening there.
Or you could try to establish a meditation and breathwork routine so you have all three main parts of the Wim Hof Method.
A thought that helped me during a time when I had no energy and motivation to change my patterns and sat in front of the computer all the time was the following: Would someone give me a thousand euros if I am able to get out of the depression/negative thinking in one month - what would I do and try to get to a totally better place? And when I found the answer (or ideas) to that I thought to myself: If I would change my behaviour for a thousand euros why wouldn't I do it for myself? Is my well being and mental health less important to myself than a thousand euros?
I don't know if this resonates with you - just telling what has helped me.
Thank you for being so open here and reaching out for help - you can do this!
      You are not alone.
And even if you keep on sitting in front of your computer you can pay attention to what videos you consume etc... so you're more inspired by people who are uplifting.
Hugs to you if you want to :)

Don't give up..you are worth it! Try yoga, (kundalini yoga is the best for healing and trauma and has many types of breathing techniques that are great...look up Breath of Fire) get your thoughts out in a journal every day, find an author you like and start reading, go to the library it's quiet and peaceful, go hiking or even just 20 min walks daily, learn other kinds of breathing techniques, go on RUclips and learn to draw or some other thing you like, volunteer and give to others... helping others heals ourselves! Take a class in something you have always wanted to learn, spend tons of time in nature, or with animals if you like them, go to the Zoo! Watch and do things that make you laugh. Sometimes you just have to try and do new things until you find something that works. Don't sit around and wait for something to "feel right". Just DO IT and eventually you will find what works for you. If you start something and stop for a while..that's okay! Just start again. Don't be hard on yourself. Little steps every day. There are so MANY THINGS you can try and so much worth living for. If you can, work with a therapist for your deeper issues. Every day remind yourself you are doing the best you can, that you are loved, that you can learn to love yourself even more, that you are NOT ALONE. This is a hard planet for all of us right now. Keep finding the light in yourself and when it gets dark again, just keep turning it back on. It's in there! From Jenn..California.

Run or swim or hike as much as you can.
      Push yourself to increase.
      Cold water showers and baths.
      Calisthenics.
      Intermittent fasting.
Find as much non-toxic-male companionship as possible.
Maintain an organized and spotlessly clean environment. Start with your bedroom and car. Get an eager dog.
After these basics you should schedule time with your mother and/or father if they are available.
      Meditation is next.
Have patience for good things to happen.
Possibly after all of this foundational work you might attract a female that deserves you. But don't feel bad if the wait is long. Volunteer while you wait. Other good people need you and would benefit from your caring about them. You got this brother!

If you allow your body to sway to the soothing music while holding the out breath a greater feeling of peace is achieved which tells your body you are safe , reducing the stress of the breath hold allows the breath to be held even longer than it would otherwise. When swaying be sure to use little to no muscle effort, because this will use up more oxygen and reduce breath hold time. An added benefit is swaying can lead to positions that cause the body to stretch and wow can one indeniably experience deep beautiful stretches while in the longer out breath hold. You will love it! 🥰

I now sometimes do alternating nose and mouth. It will take awhile for the diaphram yo get stronger so the nose breathing is easier, of course.

I have narrow nasal passages and found trying to keep up with the guided breathing intakes difficult.
Have done it with mouth breathing as well and it's much easier to keep pace.

Such a good question! I always wondered the same because one of my nostrils somewhat feels blocked depending on the day so I never feel like I'm breathing in enough oxygen 😅

Breathing through the mouth may cause accumulation of air in the stomach and produce bloating.I used to breathe through mouth and consequently changed while doing the breathing exercise.

Mouth breathing is bad. Check out ‘Mewing’. It changes the features of a person for the worse in the long run. The placement of the tongue is very important. Please check.

💯 Mouth breathing is terrible for your health and causes all kinds of problems, especially for young children who's jaw and adult teeth are growing in as they won't develop properly. I have watched other Wim Hof videos about breathing and he is so way off and confused about how to properly breath. This video is a joke! Supposed to breath in thru nose and out thru nose. The mouth is for eating & talking.

@@UnschoolingCOM He talks about the best way to breathe when he does his method, for example when he goes into cold water. Not particuraly for daily breathing. I breathe through my mouth usually because it's easier, my nostrils are small I guess ;p

Pranayama 3 part breathe requires mouth breathing and is definitely not bad for you.

Nose breathing and mouth breathing are different. When you breath from nose u can store oxygen in lungs in the other hand if breath using mouth all your air/oxygen go in the stomach. Lungs are for air filteration process not stomach.

Not sure why it's even a discussion.
The mouth is a bigger hole than the nostrils, so I need to breathe through my mouth if I need more oxygen quicker.

In yoga it's strictly nasal breathing only.

Mouth breathing you get more dry mouth.
Top tip I got was put your tounge above mouth to stop dry mouth that will happen taking that many deep breaths.

I have been practicing for about 2 weeks, I enjoy it very much but I feel pain/pression in my chest all day long for about 3 or 4 days and it's getting worse. To the unfortunate point this mornings I think I might skip training.
I'd like your advise on this Wim.
( I doubt this is the Right place to ask but I don't known where to)
    Cheers
