My favorite part of this video is when Eric comes in late at around 1:00 for the "It's My Life" chorus, and Dave Rowberry looks over at him, SCARED Sh$tless, thinking, "Oh no! what's gonna happen now?!" Somehow Eric recovers within a second or so. It's LIVE, baby!
Thats an electric 12-string on the record. Most likely a Vox, or a Burns. Don't think it's a Rickenbacker. Octave notes come out too up-front. Rocks don't sound quite like that. Excellent song. We got it in N.Y. in late 1965..
I don't wanna start a firestorm, but Eric Burdon, in my humble opinion, is just the flat-out greatest voice of the 60's. Yes there are others, but no one compares with his attitude. He's straight-up punk rock before there was such a thing.
I think it's great!!! It's not disturbing, it's groovy. I think it's genius and it far transcends the sick entertainment we have nowadays. Back in 1965 you had no bloodbath films, nor the profanity you hear in popular music. 1965 was a transitional year. BTW: that one woman trophy that was grooving to the beat seemed to be having a great time doing the video and was grateful to get the job!!
jesus has mercy for you check on this on youtube- baby jesus appartion on video just days after christmas mass in bethelhem , -and this sights of jesus
I like every era of music. I like jazz, country, folk, reggae, r&b. Sad we got so few viewing this now. A great era. I don't slam any era because I remember my teens and only listening to the music of the day. All I can say is you miss out if you don't go back and forward. I like today's music too. I'm 73 now but good. I'm here, there and everywhere in 2018.....

@Victor Panda Totally agree with you. Every generation and music genre has great music!
@arklat yeah, in 1964 I had a Viscount ten transistor radio to listen to the Beatles, Stones and Animals while i was away from my mom's magnavox stereo console and my 45s left at home.
I think I saw this back then. Cool! My friend loved this band and had some of their records. We'd listen to them back then. Good stuff. I loved to watch this show every week back then. The good old days. Good music and tv. :)
I recall when I was 14 years old and had a band in 1965. We needed a singer and auditioned kids telling them to sing Eric Burdon's version of The House of the Rising Sun
The lyrics in most of the songs The Animals do are so punk. Disregard and rebelliousness! When I was a kid in the '60s I loved them, and the other greats, like the Stones, Beatles, Doors, Kinks, Yardbirds, Zombies, et al. What a great time to be a kid with a transistor radio, and one of the earphones in those little leatherette snap cases!
What a fantastic voice he had and he was so young! He still is fantastic, check out some of his more recent work. Yeah, he should have been more famous.
+demetria64 It was a musical explosion back then. There were new songs coming out of the radio almost everyday. It seemed like the world was changing so fast all at once.
Eric Burdon, the best singer frome he's Generation, i saw Eddy Vedder and remember Eric Burdon. Those guys are Real Rock Singers, cool, Son Chingones!!!!!
Great live performance of one of The Animals best. Around this time, Mick Jagger couldn't get no satisfaction, John Lennon was going to be a nowhere man, and Eric Burdon had to drive it's my life, and I'll do what I want....great driving beat guitars , and wonderfully politically incorrect position statements outed with passion....
@jotacalvo I so want to agree with you. but maybe its my youthful naivety. But so much of the old stuff is the greatest of it's time and the 60s was such a wonderful decade for music as was the 40s, the 50s and the 70s. I feel ashamed to of grown up in the 1990s and 2000s. Thank God for having Parents with good wide taste in music.
It would be awesome if a band like the "animals" came from nowhere and played music like this at a high school saturday night dance. I think the kids would like and find this different.
Omitted from this clip is the mention that this was the first time they ever performed this song live. That may have factored into Eric Burdon screwing up the lyrics in the first verse. Still love the intensity in this performance (and his performances in general).
Pero nena , recuerda Es mi vida y voy a hacer lo que quiera Es mi mente y voy a pensar lo que quiero Muéstrame que estoy equivocado Hiereme alguna vez Pero algún día voy a tratarte realmente bien
@arklat Yes, that does capture the mood of the era perfectly! I would actually like to get one of those transistor radios again, just to listen to talk radio, and the one station on AM in my area that still plays music. Most music is on FM nowadays. I think one could just buy an adaptor (from Radio Shack, Best Buy or some store that sells such), so modern headphones would fit an old transistor's earphone jack. But I love those old transistors and the leatherette pouches, yes.
i just saw this on PBS as part of the 'My Music' fundraiser series, a version w/o the heads in the walls and i have to say it was better. That aside, Burdon's voice wins the day on this rendition.
@EarleYetter Yes, you are right, Eric never seemed too interested on TV, and when he did mime a song he stuffed that up as well, but I have loved tthe Animals since the early days.
2020 and we’re still returning to the voice of Eric Burdon, someone who can actually sing.
Yes so true
I always loved this cool song. Eric was so cute.
Eric Burdon, one of the best singers of the world, no doubt about that!!!
..Never saw it quite that way. Never really cared for his voice. But those early 1964-65 hits were great!
They used to sing live day after day, week after week. No pissing about with fancy electronics. Just got up and belted it out. The best
Fantastic young man with a powerful voice, a one and only.
One of my favorite Animals songs. Used to play in a garage band in the 60s- we used to play this song.
I love 60s music the very best but love most music but 60s is my favorite style of music !
MY NEIGHBOURS L♡VED MY MUSIC LOUD
I love the reverb on Eric's voice - it sounds like it's recorded in some rough back alley in Newcastle. Brilliant!
My favourite Animals song. The 60s was an amazing time to grow up in. I wannna go back.........
I was thinking exact same thing. It started when Burden put some of the lyrics leading up to the chorus out of sequence.
I'm not seeing it.
This song was an anthem for me in my teen years and still is today! Love it!!!
This song has such a great edge to it...get down an dirty sound...the guitar, and, of course, Eric's amazing voice. Damn!!!
Thats an electric 12-string on the record. Most likely a Vox, or a Burns. Don't think it's a Rickenbacker. Octave notes come out too up-front. Rocks don't sound quite like that. Excellent song. We got it in N.Y. in late 1965..
@@samburkes7552 it is a Rickenbacker 12 string
one of Animals classic track , great song

Pure talent coupled with pure attitude. Who could ask for more?
Great song! Killer riff, brilliant
They do not make music like this anymore, a CLASSIC.
I think it's great!!! It's not disturbing, it's groovy. I think it's genius and it far transcends the sick entertainment we have nowadays. What a performance. Long live the Animals!
The Animals score a home run with this true tale. Kudos for them!
This is their best

I love the Animal's music but this is my favorite song !!!
I like every era of music. I like jazz, country, folk, reggae, r&b. Sad we got so few viewing this now. A great era. Love The Animals, Such a cool Video. Eric Burdon was something special!
the animals..too fucking cool!..,there just isn't a band now that could touch them!
So True
Love these guys. They truly rock.
Great guitar!
Probably a Vox or Burns electr. 12-string...nice highs. Might be compressed.
2022..STILL A GREAT SONG TO VISIT 🎸🧡🎼
have always loved this song---it is one of my themes
I think I saw this back then. Cool! My friend loved this band and had some of their records. We'd listen to them back then. Good stuff. I loved to watch this show every week back then. The good old days. Good music and tv. :)

Eric was comfortable to just step up to the mic and let his voice define himself with no gimmicks.
he was great at the Filmore West in SF. just acted like the rest of us in that old broken down warehouse. dang. miss those days.
For some reason I find Eric Burdon especially attractive here. And Hilton's hair flip towards the end and exaggerated strumming height is brilliant.
Rest in peace. Hilton Valentine..

My favourite Animals song. This is not easy song to sing with these kind of lyrics !
Awesome video

What a fantastic voice he had and he was so young! He still is fantastic, check out some of his more recent work. Yeah, he should have been more famous.

Happy 70th birthday to Eric Burdon!
Love it!
One of the coolest songs from one of the coolest bands ever. This isn't art but it's darn cool.
I kinda wish I had been more then a year old at this time... What fun to be had!
+demetria64 It was a musical explosion back then. There were new songs coming out of the radio almost everyday. It seemed like the world was changing so fast all at once.

All time great band! They did one of my all time favorite songs- house of the rising sun.

Had the Playmate 2-Track Tape Player tape of the Animals back in the 60's.
Eric Burdon is cool.
He sings with fervor and Heart
OOoooh this song gives me goosebumps!!!!
Great live performance of one of The Animals best. I like these trophies...
And the band 100%
The girls heads as “trophies” on the wall is weird and creepy, but the singing is fantastic!
they are the true evergreen.....
the best never rest

С первым припевом налажали,но песня Крутая,влюбился сразу в неё
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Eric had unbelievable soul
For a white boy, he could sure sing the blues...love it!
Wow. I love how Eric misses the cue for the first chorus and Dave gives him a helluva "WTF" look!
Probably me favorite 1960's group. It wasn't until YEARS later that I found out they were doing American R&B and soul...
I meant "my' most favorite...
Paula Pacente What’s your point?
god i love it!
I like their suites..
Man, The Animals were so talented. I'm with M.G Studios, and I would love to do a duet with Eric Burdon
Hilty's hair flips give me life.
brilliant!!
so badass....one of the very reasons I own a guitar.
It would be awesome if a band like the "animals" came from nowhere and played music like this at a high school saturday night dance. I think the kids would like and find this different.
brilliant
why wasn't i born back in 1850 and lived on for about 300 years. goddamn limited lifetime :(
Hullabaloo!
Omitted from this clip is the mention that this was the first time they ever performed this song live. That may have factored into Eric Burdon screwing up the lyrics in the first verse. Still love the intensity in this performance (and his performances in general).

Eric "The handsome" Burdon.
Que viagem ao passado essas imagens em preto e branco. Muito bom. 😃

I want back to 60's years. Because, these years were wonderful. I don't understand English a lot, sorry my mistakes.
I think I saw this when it was originally shown on tv back then. Used to have the record.
Great vid thanx
All time greatest song .point !!!!
You are correct--Hullabaloo October 18, 1965
Love this song, but the sound quality is not very good. So many memories as a young girl ... 😍
he messed up lol i fuckin love this song!!!
@EarleYetter Yes, you are right, Eric never seemed too interested on TV, and when he did mime a song he stuffed that up as well, but I have loved tthe Animals since the early days.
