Ngl, this is a Brad L moment, I feel like the album is very deserving of at least an 7/8 out of 10 as while I do see the criticism of it being formulaic and being dated in certain areas with Mike’s rapping, it still has that charm which I personally enjoy a lot. However, I must retract my previous statement of being dated in the terms of the instrumentals of this album where I vastly has aged better than Linkin Park’s peers around this time where Nu Metal started to show a lot of repetition issue outside of the big names like Deftones, Korn and System Of A Down which still delivered a very good polished sound to the Nu Metal genre that has aged like fine wine or have become moving away from the genre entirely. That saying, while this album and Hybrid Theory are their best, it definitely takes time to sink into the album and condition yourself to the sound it has as it’s one of those albums you may hate at first then will suddenly just click with you.
I feel like they just aren't taking in the lyrics for most of these songs. For Easier to Run to be apparently a weak song is mind boggling. The lyrics are so honest and vulnerable, also the progression has a nice build up.
i feel like you missed the point a little bit, since it sounds formulaic because pretty much every other band copied that style they started with hybrid theory and developed further with this one (i'm not saying they're pioneers of that sound, but at the mainstream they're the biggest and most impactful band)
It’s his opinion, dawg. Chill. Plus, he never said he disliked any of the songs. He gave a light smiley ball to most of them. He just thought the album was repetitive and mid, not bad.
yeah, its weird. you don't have to, you can just give the same criticism for all LP songs. The lyrics are really, really, really bad. Depressed teenager scrawling their feelings on their binder bad.
i think you mistaking LP continuing to build on and maintain the groundbreaking-for-the-time sound they came upon w/ hybrid theory with "going through the motions" especially since this is such an influential album is a gigantic oversight in this review. consistency in your bands sound is not being samey, its being consistent.
I disagree on multiple fronts. LP has changed their sounds with every single album they’ve put out. Sure, they all sound consistently like themselves and they never lose their identity (until OML), and that’s a good thing between records. But it becomes a problem when most of the tracks on Meteora sounds very similar without much spice. Also, he judged the music for its quality as music, not its legendary status. That’s like respecting Maroon 5 for being extremely popular for so long instead of slamming the dogshit “music”. He’s a music critic, not a legacy critic.
@@minkeymouceyeah I agree. Never payed too close attention to realise the guitar tones hardly change from front to back. The album is like remixing one song idea 13 times. You either love it or you don’t
I wouldn't be as into music as I am now (especially heavier music) without this album. I remember being 5 years old listening to this album because my older brother was a fan and to this day if I had to choose is probably my favorite album of all time. I think the entire album Is extremely precise and knowing that they recorded the entire album in a makeshift studio on their tour bus ,while still touring Hybrid Theory, is mind blowing with how good the production is. Could it just be Nostalgia? Yeah, totally. But I don't think it can be understated how much of modern rock/alternative music was shaped by Linkin Park and specifically this album.
this is genuinely one of my favourite albums of all time. easily their peak as a band, and probably one of the strongest highlights of nu metal. i think its aged much better than hybrid theory too, feels more mature
I like this album but I have to agree that on the first few listens it was pretty hard to distinguish some of these songs. It may be dated in some parts but I’d argue it’s aged better than many other nu metal stuff of the same era. That’s meant to be a praise on the band but depending on how you read it, might just be a knock on the genre. Either way glad to hear your thoughts of the album
Bradley this has gone on long enough. Bradley you silly fellow, WHERE is the squid reaction? my tentacles are ripe for content, yet my suckers remain dry. what cruel punishment.
another thing i'd like to add is that i dont think "not cursing" is taking away from the lyrical approach to the album. in my opinion, it only helped to elevate later songs. when you hear a song like given up off of minutes to midnight, them not cursing on their previous works makes the lyrics of that song hit much more (matched with chester's later passing, which makes the lyrics even more hard hitting)
For me personally this is a 10/10 album. Every song goes hard, the whole project has a distinct sound but every track feels different, it's just perfect.
I’m not as big of a fan as I was a few years ago, but LP will always have a special place in my heart. And Chester will always be my favorite vocalist. RIP :(
This album will always hold a special place in my heart. Somewhere I Belong is without doubt my favorite LP track. But this listening made me realize how similar all the opening riffs are for most of the tracks lol.
Listening to Meteora again I realized it's more matured stylistically than in Hybrid Theory imo. Although, it still traced back the nu-metal roots, but it got better with experimenting musical styles too with trip-hop and alt rock stuff. Session is better than Cure for the Itch for me.
I really recommend listening to hybrid theory (on stream) it's their debut album and what I consider to be their best, it's a better iteration of their nu-metal sound and what I consider a classic
If he doesn't like Meteora I can't imagine him liking Hybrid Theory much more. They're very similar albums, which is probably why they changed up their sound on their third and future albums.

Linkin Park were pretty heavily influenced by NIN. Some of the Hybrid Theory demos on that 20th anniversary group they released sound like NIN instrumentals from their 90s era.
I kind of want to see what Brad thinks of the later Linkin Park albums more. If he's not a fan of this album, he won't be any more a fan of Hybrid Theory. And if he likes A Thousand Suns for being more creative, not following a formula, then he might like Minutes to Midnight, Living Things and/or The Hunting Party... Not OML though After Meteora, there's a lot less screaming and a lot less rapping but it still happens. Because they happen less frequently, they hit more often when they come. Mike has more of a singing role than rapping and Chester has a lot softer vocals most of the time, and hearing Chester and Mike harmonising together is often a highlight on these albums. Each album post-Meteora also has their own elements that make them unique and stand out in their discography whether that be political songwriting, softer or alt rock, more electronic sounding music and more I still love these first 2 albums. I think because most of their biggest hits come from these two albums though, that when people who have heard a lot of their big singles like Numb, In The End, Crawling, One Step Closer etc. hear these albums that it kind of just sounds like what they're expecting and they end up being kind of disappointed

So a Linkin Park review...on Chester's death anniversary...oh no
Ngl, this is a Brad L moment, I feel like the album is very deserving of at least an 7/8 out of 10 as while I do see the criticism of it being formulaic and being dated in certain areas with Mike’s rapping, it still has that charm which I personally enjoy a lot.
It's not that deep
I feel like they just aren't taking in the lyrics for most of these songs. For Easier to Run to be apparently a weak song is mind boggling. The lyrics are so honest and vulnerable, also the progression has a nice build up.
The lyrics are gay
@@1-2-4-0 I guess you can relate to that then.

Def the worst timing
I have to agree that this album aged quite a lot, but I can't help but love it at the same time.
Weirdly enough I don’t really think that, maybe some of the rapping but that’s about it to me
Aged like Toxicity, but this one still a masterpiece.
still a timeless favourite to me.
Yeah aged like fine wine for me, can never put me off it
Rest in peace Chester

Awful review as always Brad, keep it up
Linkin park is for mouthbreathers
He didn't like Don't Stay. That's a thumb down.
i feel like you missed the point a little bit, since it sounds formulaic because pretty much every other band copied that style they started with hybrid theory and developed further with this one (i'm not saying they're pioneers of that sound, but at the mainstream they're the biggest and most impactful band)
I am here and I am ready to hate on Brad for this take
This gotta be Brad's worst take of all time. Half the songs he didn't like it he just made up some bs nonsense as a reason for the song being bad
Yeah, he pretend just to say he was not wrong before, pure pride.
To me, Toxicity aged well as this, both are my favorite teenager albums.
@@felippedias5446You could definitely say they’ve all mostly aged well considering today’s metal scene going through a major nu metal revival
Judging an album from 2003 with the lens of 2023 is kinda wild.
WE LISTENING TO PEAK
i think you mistaking LP continuing to build on and maintain the groundbreaking-for-the-time sound they came upon w/ hybrid theory with "going through the motions" especially since this is such an influential album is a gigantic oversight in this review. consistency in your bands sound is not being samey, its being consistent.
Even as a massive Linkin Park fan in my teens meteors totally felt iterative as heck back in the day.
I need an adult
@@minkeymouceI am an adult 😈
another thing i'd like to add is that i dont think "not cursing" is taking away from the lyrical approach to the album. in my opinion, it only helped to elevate later songs. when you hear a song like given up off of minutes to midnight, them not cursing on their previous works makes the lyrics of that song hit much more (matched with chester's later passing, which makes the lyrics even more hard hitting)
...guessing this release date wasn't intentional
Considering he's not a fan of LP, It's safe to assume he doesn't know Chester's death date.
@@shadows-sweet-embraceI'm not a mega LP fan but I remember Chester's death date because it was on Chris Cornell's birthday
Some pretty fucked timing
For me personally this is a 10/10 album. Every song goes hard, the whole project has a distinct sound but every track feels different, it's just perfect.
I’m not as big of a fan as I was a few years ago, but LP will always have a special place in my heart. And Chester will always be my favorite vocalist. RIP :(
Nobody’s Listening is literally an all-time great song. Definitely a Brad take on that one.

They're the same exact album
I really recommend listening to hybrid theory (on stream) it's their debut album and what I consider to be their best, it's a better iteration of their nu-metal sound and what I consider a classic

I think Brad really needs to take into account when this was released and when most of the audience here heard it. But today, especially hearing it for the first time, most if not all would find the songs similar in nature and not as impressive.

The cringe emo part of me still loves this album, way more than Hybrid Theory also thanks for the cool fact Legoshi. I had no idea the foreward was a reference to Mr. Self Destruct, considering LP covered NIN's Wish it makes a lot of sense!
Linkin Park were pretty heavily influenced by NIN. Some of the Hybrid Theory demos on that 20th anniversary group they released sound like NIN instrumentals from their 90s era.
Hybrid theory is superior
I kind of want to see what Brad thinks of the later Linkin Park albums more. If he's not a fan of this album, he won't be any more a fan of Hybrid Theory. And if he likes A Thousand Suns for being more creative, not following a formula, then he might like Minutes to Midnight, Living Things and/or The Hunting Party... Not OML though
After Meteora, there's a lot less screaming and a lot less rapping but it still happens. Because they happen less frequently, they hit more often when they come. Mike has more of a singing role than rapping and Chester has a lot softer vocals most of the time, and hearing Chester and Mike harmonising together is often a highlight on these albums. Each album post-Meteora also has their own elements that make them unique and stand out in their discography whether that be political songwriting, softer or alt rock, more electronic sounding music and more
I still love these first 2 albums. I think because most of their biggest hits come from these two albums though, that when people who have heard a lot of their big singles like Numb, In The End, Crawling, One Step Closer etc. hear these albums that it kind of just sounds like what they're expecting and they end up being kind of disappointed
Based on everything he said, he’d probably rate all their other albums well below ATS
So here I can understand that the majority of the comment section don't agree with Brad's rating
I have been waiting for this ever since you dropped the short
Its not Brads fault. The cd version has always been sort of compressed, the DVD VERSION LIVE IN TEXAS now thats in MFO the best way to enjoy this album. This sort of proof my theory that a remastered of this album is well over due, but like a really good one.
