Muse is one of those bands whose music has always straddled a line where, if certain elements became more prominent, it would go from enjoyable to shit in the blink of an eye. The blown out melodrama can be fun if you buy into it, but there always has to be something else, whether it be good dynamics or progressions or just *something* to counteract the negative effects of being so overly theatrical. This album doesn't really have that most of the time, so it comes across as having the worst aspects of Muse's style.

I understand they were just creating a fictional narrative in this album like a lot of their music, but the lyrics and material are just way too vague. It would've been better if they instead created a fictional antagonist to represent who are what they feel is incorrect in this album and not "grrr let's overthrow the corrupt system I wanna be RATM so bad rahhh".

At the time of me commenting this, father of all was the only example I could think of, but it's almost becoming a phenomenon with a lot of 2000s bands releasing an album now in which they make a really superficial version of their glory days' music while trying to relive them. It's just sad atp.

Every single hint of a good idea on this thing is massively overshadowed by the issues surrounding them.
And I defended simulation theory. I can't believe it somehow got worse.

Yeah, muse can be cheesy. Yeah, muse goes in a ton of directions and explores beyond what might make them be taken seriously. Yeah muse might make songs with poor choices of mixing, writing, and structure.
But tell me honestly: if you just enjoy rock music, and you are lighthearted (aka not thinking if something isn’t cool or a little embarrassing when listening to music), is muse not the most FUN thing to listen to???
It’s catchy, and all over the place at the same time, and I feel like to some that’s a bad combination, but to me it’s a really good one
Last thing: as a fan of muse since ‘09 and every album since being a Time Capsule to a part of my childhood/teenage years, I see this “greatest hits compilation but make it ourselves” approach, that Matt confirmed in an interview, to provide a fuck ton of nostalgia to me

I feel like Matt Bellamy's voice is the key factor to someone enjoying muse or not. If you like his very dramatic delivery and you enjoy the "space rock" instrumentation that muse goes for you'll love them. It also helps if you don't care much about lyrics, though they do vary in quality depending on the album.
That being said this album did feel a bit too goofy at times, and as much as I enjoyed won't stand down and kill or be killed, it's definitely some of their most unappealing work.
Calling Origin of Symmetry a 6/10 is a crime however lol that album is fantastic, and I'm tired of the Radiohead comparisons, both bands went their own ways a long time ago. I enjoy Radiohead but they can't do what Muse has done, their sound is much more introspective and lacks punchiness compared to them. Personally I found this album to be a lot of fun. I don't really care about the lyrics and I just care about how it sounds like, and I enjoyed it.
Favorite tracks: You Make Me Feel Like It's Halloween. It's just a really fun song, I love the synth and organ mix this song has.
Least favorite tracks: The Will of the People and We Are Fucking Fucked are very forgettable and I don't want to listen to them ever again.

Go listen to Royal Blood's Typhoons if you want a fun danceable rock album, yeah it's kinda hard car commercial vibes but Mike is a much much more bearable lyricist and vocalist, and the blend of hard rock and disco works really well with the simple bass guitar/drums pairing
