    Nice to see a discussion about fasting that goes beyond just weight loss. The pain and impact of having gut issues is a pretty strong motivation to try out fasting and it makes sense why it could help. Gonna share this with my clients

    Bottom line for me, after self-experimentation and observation: LESS IS MORE.
    Less food, less often. And you can immediately see why this idea would be hugely unpopular: millions of livelihoods depend on us eating more, more often.

    We've spent about 275k years as a species not really knowing when or what our next meal was...we developed this way. It makes sense why we WANT to eat all the time, but it's also not hard to see why a huge shift in our eating habits has caused massive issues.

      I would only like to add that even when we wanted to eat all the time , we couldn't. If the hunt was unsuccessful then its fasting time. I watched some videos about current tribes going without eating for like 6 days sometimes simply because they didn't catch anything so I think our bodies are well designed to survive well enough without food just as long as you carry some body fat.

I have always instinctively known that the worse my GI tract feels, the worse the depression and acne will get. And it just happens that I have that terrible tendency to eat pretty much around the clock. I have watched a lot of your videos recently and you have inspired me to give fasting and a regular excerise program a try. I’ll report back in a couple weeks on how things are progressing.

    Have been an advocate of intermittant fasting for three years now. Initially lost 60lb and felt great but the pandemic set in for two years and disrupted my sense of well being and I re-gained 30lb due to the stressors of being frontline critical care nurse. Now retired and struggling to regain that feeling and lose the 30 plus another 30 for my much awaited knee replacement. I am on day 3 of a 7 day fast to kick start my journey. First two days were a struggle with weakness but I knew if I got to day 3 I'd start to feel better. It's working! I hope to reduce all the inflammatory markers and reduce swelling and pain ...very serious arthritis in feet, ankles and knees. It helps to know the exact science of what is happening in my gut, which I think has been the major contributor to my physical dis-ease.

    I'm trying to go 30 days water fasting right now. I believe it has saved my life. Have seen 18 doctors in the last year(ill skip the part where all of my problems started after one dose of pfizer, too long a story). Im 42 and was active, not overweight and ate fairly well.. Although the doctors have found numerous serious issues none can find the cause. I went from non functioning and incapacitated with back pain, liver and intestinal inflammation due to elevated enzymes, bacterial or viral infection, body was making antibodies to 5 different viruses none of which I was showing any symptoms, elevated heart rate,, high blood pressure, elevated troponin, and the list goes on. Im now 18 days into this fast(against the recommendation of my primary doctor) and every single marker I have has improved so significantly it borders on miraculous. I wish I understood what is going on but with no education in biology I will prob never know. But whatever is happening is nothing short of a miracle and im shocked (well not really) the medical industry isn't aware of this process and the benefits associated with it. Although maybe they do and that's why people don't know.

    Sad that the last 40 years has seen such a rapid decline in the education a medical professional gets. They have been reduced to chart readers that will actually tell you “I don’t know anything about diet, vitamins or minerals. You would need to see a holistic doctor.” Come to find out this is also by design. Now it is better not to get medical, care in the USA. My new question now is what type of person would pay 8 years of schooling to be dumbed down by the education system and big pharmaceutical, not a person that wants to help others🙁 only a person that wants to pay their BMW. That is interesting about what you said earlier in the video about allergies and gut health because I was interested in vitamin A (because of your video speaking about how it also can influence allergies as several years ago I developed seasonal allergies and I really don't like it because my job still has me outside most of the day) so I went and found some vitamin A to supplement with my nutrition protocol that I already feel I get plenty as it is, although I still wanted to supplement increase that to help with the allergies, and when I had noticed that the gel capsule was a soy product, I immediately quit taking them because I was already noticing a small shift in my mood and I try to avoid estrogen as much as possible, and wanted off of the allergy pills as they were storing aluminum in my armpit as if I was using an antiperspirant, yet I did notice that when I went from having one cheat meal a week to one cheat meal a month, I haven't had the need to take my allergy medicine or any concern over being deficient in vitamin A just because of that, and since you brought that up, I kind of want to go down to maybe 6 cheat meals a year and see if that further decreases any symptoms of allergies even further

Still in the miracle period where I'm still able to gain some muscle while still losing weight, even though I'm just doing simple exercises like pushups/squats/similar (was really unfit). And it's really nice that all my pants now need a belt, and that I've even shrunk out of being able to use an old belt.
    Still a few months away from being merely overweight looking at height/weight BMI charts. No idea when I should expect weight loss to start to slow down though.

    After years of making bad dietary decisions due to following calories in/calories out I decimated my gut biome to the point that my body was robbing my hip cartilage to fix the damage in my colon. The surgeon who was on tap to replace my hip suggested for me to look into an anti-inflammatory diet. Having watched videos like this and Dr Pradip Jamnadas I am giving extended fasting (5-7 days) a go in hopes that the surplus of stem cells can help re-cushion my hip joint (it's bone on bone according to my last set of x-rays done in 2019). If my body can rob my hip cartilage to fix my colon, then in theory shouldn't it be able to put it back? I did the 5 day fast 3 months ago and noticed tingling sensations in the days following it, almost like a limb that fell asleep waking up...its was good sensation. There is still stiffness and mild pain, but it has improved. Looking to a 7 day fast in January...will update afterward. Any thoughts on whether or not this hypothesis is feasible?

    13:20. What do you think of coffee with MCT oil in it? I've noticed, in my own use, that the MCT oil has hugely beneficial anti-inflammatory properties as well as improved mental focus. However, I'm not sure how it relates to autophagy.

    My unfixed barely vaccinated 12 year old Rottweiler is so healthy and bouncy like a 2 year old. Yesterday I realized that twice a year when his sister went into heat he wouldn’t eat much for a month because of the stress of her heat. He did fasts 2 times a year so that must be why he is a super healthy old man.I’ve never had a Rottweiler make it past 10 before him.

    Great video Mike This helps to explain part of my question. There seems to be some new studies and debate around TRF (Intermittent fasting) vs calorie restriction protocols for weight loss and general health. I wanted to know if you can create a video on the pros and cons, nuances of each with regards to weight loss, overall metabolic health, level of autophagy and other parameters, etc Also, what would you think is best.

    Now tie this together with some personal practices: fast for 3 days once a month to ... (?increase tight junction protiens, clear out LPS, amp up growth hormone ...?), refeed with ... (?bone broth to regenerate microvillea mucus and junctions, probiotic foods to repopulate microbiome, beef/liver/carbs/exercise to signal mTOR and stem growth signals, ...?), ...???

    • @mikeward9870
      @mikeward9870 2 года назад

      @Whatsapp①⑧⓪②④③⑧③⑥⑥⓪ Breakfast starts with some ferment liquid (thanks to Mindy Pelz for this, which includes live probiotics, postbiotic signaling molecules, salt, bio-water??), coffee (perhaps with cinnamon or tumeric+pepper if I feel like it), bone broth (for 3-day and longer fasts), and a 2-egg omelette with curried onions and goat cheese along with lime-salted avocado bacon followed by at least 1.5 hours of no food (for easy jump-start of the ol' digestive tract). Next meal starts with appetizers of aged European cheeses with a variety of feremented vegs (usually sauerkraut, lacto-ferment onions) with some prebiotic raw radishes, washed down with diluted ACV+salts (Na, K, Mg). Whatever main course is followed by dessert of fruit+fermented cream+nuts (to get some probiotic Bifido's and their post-ferments). Sometimes 2, but ususally 3 meals that day, with the last (latest) including 6oz grass fed beef or lamb + healthy carbs (vegs and fruits, no grains) to hit all the rebuild signals. Often the day starts with my cold shower, then 15m HIIT (pullups, pushups, crunches, planks+, dips) to help trigger rebuilding too. I'm just reading Gundry's new book The Keto Code and see many of the health threads converging on the mitochondrial health tapestry. However, I think longer fasting and autophagy are primary and competing threads to be interwoven as well.

    Mike, one thing I've always wondered about autophagy is if consuming coffee or very low-caloric things during your "fasting" window prevents you from getting into the autophagy state? Can you please speak to this in one of your upcoming videos?

    • @VictorGasparLLM
      @VictorGasparLLM 2 года назад

      Coffee (black, no sugar) has been shown to enhance autophagy, actually. It compliments fasting very well.
