This has got to be the best talk show/ podcast channel in Singapore where they actually have intelligent, deep and educational conversations and have fun at the same time. Unlike other talk shows where they are just showing boobs and talk about materialistic shit.
May I know what are these other podcasts? For research purposes only
Agree
@@bnishanth8101 i also wanna know... for research purposes
Well, Real Talk used to be like that. Glad GRVTY has started putting out better content.
I also wanted to know, for research purposes.
Thank you! As a Muslim, I find this informational, create deeper understanding and respect for Buddhism and Buddhist. This is important in a multi cultural and religion society like Singapore. Its how we remain strong together.
I'm so glad you guys invited a real monk to this interview! There's rarely English speaking monks around, mostly are Mandarin speaking. He debunked a lot of myths and things that are unknown to most people. Hope you guys would invite other religious leaders too! Religion is a topic seldom touched on and it should be discussed more openly.
There are so many English speaking monks! Ajahn Brahm for example.
With the model of Singapore education system , perhaps in future all the Buddhist monks and nuns can discuss Buddhist scriptures and Buddhist doctrines , all comfortable in English language.
Ya
Try try try
What if a person dead due to accident? What will he see..
I learnt a good teaching from Venerable in the interview: Whatever happens to us (good or bad), we internalize them. We don't externalize them (attribute them) to outside factors or other persons. Karma is volition (intention). When we don't externalize our "suffering", we don't blame outside factor and other people. Our intention will not be "blameful" or hateful or non-worthsome. This is how we purify our intention and hence our karma. Thank you Venerable for the teaching.
Very informative sharing and I really enjoyed the interaction between Venerable Shi and the cast. Thanks for the podcast :)
Very underated podcast, deep and intellectual conversation with a tinge of subtle clowny comments at times. Loving the frequent uploads! You have earned yourself a subscriber!
This was such a good interview! I love the dynamics between the team & the guest. Hope to see him more on the show.
Really really enjoyed such podcasts. It’s down-to-earth, relatable, and delivered in a tasteful way. Brilliant!
Chanced upon this channel and Thank You for making it! Thank you to Venerable Shi You Wei for stepping forward to share more on Buddhism on this Talk Show. Very informative!
I died when Jon said “he asking for himself”
Thanks for doing this video! I always wondered about things like that growing up and didn’t dare to ask because I didn’t wanna come off rude. But thank you guys so much for this!
Denise never fails to ask such good and engaging questions!
Very touching actually. That's why i really appreciate his parents and of course the monk himself.
Very interesting! Please invite Venerable back into the show again! He changed my perspective of a monk, very interesting. 👍🏻
came across this episode whilst binging on yalls' podcast and as a buddhist/taoist myself, i have to say that the 2 episodes with Venerable Shi was not only informative but entertaining as well. I learnt more about my own religion in these 2 episodes as compared to my whole 20 years of living! Thank you Venerable Shi for answering our questions and educating us on Buddhism in such calm and graceful manner, and thank you Daily Ketchup podcast crew for asking such informative questions whilst making it entertaining as well. Truly enjoyed Venerable Shi's presence and humour as well as the mannerisms of the whole crew! Would love to see Venerable Shi back on the podcast in the near future. Until then, I will continue binging on past episodes and future episodes of The Daily Ketchup Podcast!
This is truly an educational and transparency in regards to religious affairs. The crew members also be praised for asking hard questions which many devotees failed to understand. Hope to see more of such interview in future.
Thank you for this informative, engaging and moving episode. Not sure why, but I was moved to tears for parts of the podcast. Appreciate the authenticity of the Venerable. 🙏🏼
honestly look forward to these podcasts every week! thanks for inviting so many interesting speakers 🤩🤩
This is such a lab interesting and fun podcast to listen to. Coming from a person who has a short attention span, I love this podcast a lot. And I sat through the entire thing. Thank you for producing this ❤️❤️

Very good sharing. It helps me to understand more about Buddhism. Thank you! 🙏
New to this channel and am digging it so much. Love the questions bouncing off each other and how the cast kept poking the monk but he was p chill w that and engaged deeply. Def underrated channel/podcast

A next episode will be good !!! And maybe also on other religions like Taoism or Muslim/Islam/ Hinduism ?
Super love this episode and the previous one with Venerable Shi. Guess my road to enlightenment is long and arduous
Gained many insights from Vulnerable Shi

Glad to see denise participating more. The last 2 episode, she was so left out!
34:32 for synchronized clap between John and Dan 🤣
I hope you guys get someone from the other religions to share about their faith and beliefs! This series has been very insightful and enjoyable! As someone who was very confused with the religions as a kid (i went to a Christian kindergarten then a Buddhist pri sch - very confusing to a 7 year old 😂) actually even now i still dont know alot, im learning alot without needing to step into the circle. Hope to see more!
Wah i died at the paywave part 🤣
Dont need to learn religion. Learn mental health, learn how to communicate with each other, respect each other. Science if u are interested or practical skill.
I love this kind of topic. Very informative. Too many people are talking, asking questions, laughing etc. at the same time. Luckily the CC button is working. At least I didn’t miss any of the conversation. Otherwise I don’t know who’s talking and to focus on. Overall great content! Well done guys! ❤️
Mad respect for Venerable Shi and his dedication!
wanted to say i super like this ep, but i cant be too attached to this video.
lol
Found this on my rec and clicked on it, absolutely love it, love the information and love that it's so casual!
Thanks for this interview, it's so enlightening!
This is very informational and it gives a better understanding and perspective :)
Omg this episode is so fun to watch!
Can invite Venerable You Wei back? This podcast answered many of my questions of Buddhism.
As a Christian. This video is really helpful. More people understands Buddhism. 🙏
Maybe 1 day I may convert. 🤔

i rlly enjoy these types of episodes where y’all invite religious leaders. This episode was rlly entertaining
he seems really knowledgeable about everything its impressive. interesting episode!
Very sociable venerable. Great work! Super interview
I love this episode so much and hope to have another episode 😉👍
Venerable Shi, thanks for sharing and I really enjoy your conversation.
Please invite him back for more videos!! This guy quite funny sia hahaha
quite interesting, I watched the whole thing and I don't even normally watch podcasts kind of thing.
He reminds me of Master Wu Gui in kungfu panda. Ever so calm and knowledgeable. Seems nice to not to be attached to worldly possessions.
i love him hes so wholesome
Can’t wait for a Ustaz or Mullah to have a discussion here too!
Wow! Now I think I sinned…. I fall in love w this man seahhh… He’s such a likeable man to not to like. Thx @Daily Ketchup for asking him e questions I wanted to ask. U guyse are GREAT!
Awesome video! Now I understand about monk more.
have the different religious leaders together in 1 episode, would be interesting to see all of them answwring to the same questions
imagine you have debate that your view is correct, and others keep on disapproving your view. (belief) not a good idea
probably hard with covid restrictions but ya thatll be cool
You don’t have the weight to invite all the religious leaders to come and debate in front of the public lah
Buddhism is about philosophy of life and rid of worldly desires that pollute and corrupt the mind.
From the way 4 hosts and the guest speak, we can tell how much a person is cultivated👍👍👍
Buddhism is still a religion as it is registered as religion similarly to Christianity , Islam and Hinduism, both in respective countries and in the United Nations. So as religion it is normal to talk on heaven and hell, ghost and angels/ heavenly beings , and the supernatural stuffs . As such they are similar in level of grouping.
Very informative and thank you for sharing.
This is my 2nd time watching this video…Mr Monk really speak very good English or I just think I’m dumb.Love you Mr Monk…we are of same age.❤
Great episode with a wonderful host. Questions could have been more thought-provoking, but still insightful nonetheless. One thing I think is important is hopefully you guys can find a solution for your mic issues. Since your mic setup is on the table, whenever someone accidentally touching the mic or bangs the table it causes a subtle but annoying distraction especially to audio listeners. It happens quite commonly throughout this ep. Keep the series up! :)
May all be enlightened by Ven talk. Thank you for the episode. Of course, at certain level, have to show some respect to the Ven.
It's really a good session and I learnt quite a number of things about Buddhism.
Maybe can invite Ven. to explain the core teachings of Buddhism next time?
This ep was sooo interesting!!
Dear Venerable Shi You Wei, I am a Christian. I love your energy. I am a vegan and I really can see the karmic effect. Since becoming a vegan, my mind has been so clear and I become very sensitive spiritually, things become transparent such as I can read people around me its like I can read their mind. If someone has an intention towards me, I can see it even months before it happens. It did not happen instantly, after a few years its like things are clearing up. Also, doors of opportunity started opening up for me. I became a vegan for justice as I do not agree with murdering an innocent being with feelings of pain and having family like myself. Put health aside, I definitely is much healthier than before. But the spiritual side is really obvious.
a very educating episode!
pleaseee have an ustad toooo! I cant wait
Happy to hear the connections of religious people like a monk. Wishing to know about others denominations and christian pastor. Good and bad apples from them. SMiLE 😃
i remember for the alliums one its because when the monks have to meditate and do their prayers, it can cause gas to build up in the body and has to be release so they cant really 100% focus on whatever they are doing.
Yea, imagine they half way chanting then burp out loudly or fart out smelly, not good too.
Wow! This is very interesting! Nice sharing
Great discussions! If you happen to invite him again, I’d like to know if the venerable could list some evidences of reincarnation, enlightenment, deityhood and the concept of karma apart from believing these just because of tradition?
I say that because these concepts affect a life greatly in terms of outlook and motivation, and it is needful to verify the truthfulness of these concepts before anyone decides to go this route.
很不错的访谈 让大家了解出家人 推广佛法 buddha bless you
21:57 HAHAHAHAB Dan's reaction to JP 's question
paywave 😂😂😂 PLSSS i love this episode, pls bring venerable shi back soon
Great uncovering of the mysteries of a 2500 year old belief system that is still applicable today.
i loved this!
!!! Super ups. Love it. Love the guest. So charismatic tbh.
Really enlighten👍🏻
In India, man represents compassion. Whereas in China, female represents compassion. In order for the easy acceptance of Buddhism in China, Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva becomes a female figure.
Because in old days the female Buddhist practitioners felt more at ease to have a female deities offering in the room, like having a mother to seek comfort with.
In fact heavenly bring do not have gender and can change form as they like .
Interesting interview!!!!
Learn more about Buddhist religion!!!
just to share , the purpose of the alm round in thailand is also to give the lay person an opportunity have build merit for offering the monk basic necessities like foods..The old and elderly do not need to walk long/travel to the temple for their merit making , regardless the person is rich or poor , everyone is given the opportunity for doing the merit by giving.. regardless just plain rice or water..etc indirectly , it help to maintain the support of the "body" of the monk for practice. With modern-day mentality and rushing pace , people start to give out $$ instead of getting food.. which indirectly is semi wrong but for donor convenience purpose . So it good that to offer food instead of $$ for the alm round... ( also prevent bogus monk) That is my personal sharing.
2:05 moment… help each other out… that one cannot lah… I died laffing.
Thank you for sharing😊
I’m sorry but I’m half Thai and I need to say something. 😂 Alms offering is not really begging for food. They don’t beg but people offer food or daily necessities wholeheartedly. Thai monks act like an entity or a communication gateway between life and after-life. So if you’re offering food to Thai monks, that means you’re offering food to your love ones in the afterlife. Your love ones can received it. And yes thai monks can eat meat or whatever that is being offered to them. They also only have 1 meal per day which is in the morning at 11am.
But from the Buddhist doctrine, the Buddha ‘s objective is to let his ordained disciples to beg for the foods they eat to eradicate their ego and pride . Part of the training.
@@ct9245 “beg” is not a nice word. I’m a normal person and I’m not as enlightened as buddha or monks, so I find it disrespectful to use the word “beg”.
I heard from him the whole process of becoming a monk. So once you become a monk, is there a way to quit being a monk? and what is the whole process of it? Will the family take you back?
Yes, that would be de-robing and one can go back to the laity’s lifestyle and be with the family, get married etc.
it's possible to quit, usually not done so casually. Process may varies among traditions.
It can be shameful socially.
Yes there is. A monk or nun can return the cassock for 7 times.
Why so flip flopping?
PLEASEEE HAVE HIM BACK!!! :D PLEASSSEEEEE
me who eats oglio aglio every other day: THAT EXPLAINS IT
“Now got paywave ah so it’s fine”
I DIED 😭😭😭
36:03
2:03 Was NOT expecting that dirty minded moment from Venerable..... 🤣🤣🤣
Good show!
Would be cool if there’s a q&a episode with rev terence
More please!
Curious question: Do monks serve NS/get called back for reservist?
My platoon mate is a monk. So he doesn’t carry rifle/bayonet.
Very informative Master
Venerable Shi is so likeable 🥰
