What an elegant way to counter it! It looks so cool and yet simple while obviously not not being simple to perform.

That head dip to shift your weight is brilliant. I will definitely be incorporating this into my Jiu Jitsu takedowns.

I tend to ride the uchimata and weight his hopping foot (or at least mess up his hopping timing) so he can't kenken. Then I shoot my supporting leg down between his and throw Sumi Gaeshi. If he is still trying in vain to finish the throw you can use his force to roll right into Tate Shiho. I know there is a risk of the ref not understanding that I stopped his technique and countered but I'm way past my athlete days. I have seen IJF refs score this for the counterattack but not a great strategy on the game side of things.

Another way to stop UchiMata is being taller than your opponent, or having longer legs😂 It doesn't apply for japanese judokas
