@@GeorgeWhittam standing applause to you. Prologue is super comfortable, solid, spacious and easy to drive. It is one of the first affordable mass market EVs for families with proper gauge cluster and classic styling. Compared to CRV, Prologue is a leap into the future.
Doug’s take on this for a *general* consumer is perfect. Get it if there’s a good deal. By the time the lease is up, Honda will have their own electric car model out. If you’re really picky, cross shop with the other cars like the Mach E. For those who read into more details, there are some well known and lesser known advantages of the Honda/Acura over its competitors, and even against its siblings in GM. 1. Apple CarPlay and Android auto. As Doug already mentioned, GM will not have that as an option for any of their vehicles. 2. Resale value. The Prologue will be worth more at the end of a lease versus the Blazers or Equinox equivalent, just because it says Honda. 3. Materials and quality. Doug mentioned that it is about the same as Chevy, but Honda actually adds a lot more testing and validation for its components. Despite the cars being assembled in a GM factory, there are specific engineers from Honda assigned to each model. Additionally, Honda only uses proven materials like genuine leather. Synthetic leather is exclusively used by Tesla, and most GM models. Of course, the prologue still has stiff competition from other brands and I don’t think these points are enough to sway everyone or anyone cross shopping.
I mean, so, the EPA range on the Teslas is optimistic, and the EPA range on the GM produced vehicles is conservative. This colors so many reviews unnecessarily.
The thing is, teslas aren't for everyone, especially the minimalistic interior and cheap build quality. The honda is a more complete vehicle especially inside and from a brand people are familiar with
the tesla interiors are beyond horrible and everything on the tablet is the exact opposite of what a car should be. plus, the guy who runs it is the henry ford of our time (in the bad way)
I am actually a pretty big fan of this car, (I have been in one, and the interior is so much better than anything Tesla can even dream of doing, that’s why it’s more expensive than a model Y) I think the Acura version is hideous tho Edit: I would go for that Mach-E if I were in the segment though
I’m sure this car is “much better than anything Tesla can dream of doing”… you either on crack or a lunatic. *im no fan of neither, but the 3 Teslas I drove or been in had nothing to complain about… and actually compared to my older Lexus and ‘17 Toyota it was miles better(I picked Toyota over Honda because interior was better when new so…)
For all the hate the Prologue is getting, I like it in that it’s an EV without having to scream it to the world. It has normal door handles, not those weird flush ones. It has a normal charge port opening that’s like a gas tank opening, not a motorized one. It has normal interior door handles. It’s just an EV that looks like a normal car, and I feel some people like that. People might want an EV/hybrid, but want it to just look like a normal car and not some science experiment. And this does that.
We bought one because I won't give a dollar to Elon/Trump. Day to day the Prologue is excellent, exactly what we were looking for and it's styling (interior and exterior) is much preferred to a model Y. Like any car purchase, go test drive them and see for yourself.
Dont see the big deal about the headlights since you should just put them on auto and never have to think about it again. Maybe you should do your research and then you would know what the heat button does.
I've noticed Doug doesn't research many of the features in vehicles. He just sees something as quirky and therefore speaks on that without really knowing about it.
Doug you should do a poll on which type of automatic shifter is best, with a large audience it would be interesting to see which type people prefer. A-rotary dial, B-column mechanical, C-column digital, D-push buttons, E- center console mechanical.
I've always liked "B" column shifts in automatics, especially for sedans and trucks. Frees up space for more useful purposes than touching it 2 times during the average trip. Not a fan of pushbuttons because I've learned most of those still use a motorized module on the transmission to move a shaft, rather than you doing it by shifting from park. Just one more thing that can leave you stranded.
I have had a pure electric Honda e in the UK for the last 3.5 years. It was a sales flop due to low range/small storage space but it's also been the best car I have had in 35 years. I love it.
Yep - same experience with my Mini SE in Canada. Rarer than hen’s teeth likely due to limited range and high price….but definitely the most fun little car I’ve owned.
Just listened to the most recent podcast and Doug calls out people commenting on his Instagram saying “the rx350 isn’t good because the x5 is faster to 60”. How is that different from this? Some people (arguably most) don’t care about 0-60 times. 6-8 seconds is more than adequate. Doug - be more consistent and stop berating cars you personally don’t like only to turn around and say people who do that to you “don’t understand real consumers”
You mean first in the US? In Europe, they had the Honda e which came out in 2020 but didn't sell very well, and they have another EV called the E:Ny1 which is an SUV
I went from a CR-V hybrid to the Prologue. It is fast as hell compared to that and to me 6 seconds to 60 for a 5000lb vehicle is pretty good. Because it is electric the power is always on tap and you don't have to wait for the transmission to kick down and the engine to rev, it just goes. I like that it looks like a normal vehicle. Not overstyled or weird looking with creases and fake vents everywhere. There's not another EV that I really like the styling TBH. The new 3 looks good on the outside but no way do I want a vehicle that has almost all functions through the touch screen. Nor do I want buttons for the turn signals. It's hard enough getting used to the wipers being on the left along with the cruise settings. I like the buttons on the back of the steering wheel for forward and back for songs and volume but am still getting used to that. On top of that a $300 a month lease with no money down is super cheap.
Yes, you got it. I tested the Prologue vs new CRV and immediately noticed how much better Prologue is at everything, especially acceleration, even FWD Prologue is very good. But most people commenting never drove the Prologue and never will, keep repeating old bias against GM.
@@anthonyc8499 Yep. You just have to select Blazer EV as your vehicle in the app. I am a little hesitant to buy one of the non gm adapters even though it appears the lectron and the a2z ones seem to be ok. Apparently you can't order the gm without the chevy/gm app so I may wait until the official Honda adapter. I don't really need to take the prologue on road trips as we have a cr-v hybrid for that but having the option in the future will be nice.
This explanation is spot on. Honda’s engineering and efforts into the new battery line here in Anna Ohio & Marysville is impressive, especially watching it all develop first hand. The Prologue is ok, plain styling and keeps the pushy government happy, but it’s replacement will be a “real” Honda and much better package. Maybe they’ll name the new car some average word with even more spacing, like N e a t
It’s a shame Doug had to get into politics on this one. Not sure there was a need for that. But totally his channel and his choice. One of the many great things about America! (That Honda wouldnt exist if Tesla wasn’t around.)
On a side note, if Honda were to make another EV, I would like them to revive the 1st gen Insight styling with 200-250 miles of range at minimum. The newer Insight looked too much like the Civic, so I would like to see the cool, aerodynamic styling that made the 1st gen look futuristic. A 2 seat, fastback design would suffice for me.
They could bring that back as a Tesla Roadster competitor, put in a Hummer EV size battery and power, and call it an Acura. If pricing and styling are right, that’d be a cool Halo car.
they have another EV, the E:NP1, same range, for less than half price, in Asia it costs about 18-22k. And also, the tiny Honda-e in Europe and Asia, but battery pack and range suck.
My uncle is a senior Honda tech in Miami and he says the new prologue is all GM, from motors to software. He says it’s just a rebadged Chevy and the dealer received a whole pallet of diagnostics equipment for the car
I can't help but laugh at this car... Honda themselves looked around and said, "Who makes mediocre products and gets away with it so much that 'we' could get away with till we make something actually good?" Answer was easily GM, and GM WENT WITH IT.
We leased a Prologue because you can't even get a Civic from Honda now any cheaper. It's a great car for our first electric. It's saving us more than $400/mo. in gas from our former Pilot for my wife's 50-miles daily work commute, not to mention the gas station visits after or before a long workday. We didn't want a car that looked like a spaceship and it's plenty quick for the average person's needs. It took about a day to get used to the GM-style controls which was no big deal. Lastly, the grippy surfaced area right below the climate controls is great for phones, a pair of glasses or anything else you might be taking with you. It may not look luxurious but it's super useful.
2 things that need to stop in the car industry: "electric" and "crossover" majority of people can barley afford a used decent camry or accord and now we're being begged to buy EVs by the government? Hell no.
Why are brands slowly getting rid of rear badges for the name spelt out instead? Surely this is more expensive than a single badge? It's a trend I've been noticing for last couple of years as more manufacturers begin do it, and now Honda have joined in. I thought the goal of badges was to get famous enough that people recognise your brand without spelling it out. Maybe this is no longer the case?
It's a case of "uniqueness" and a subversion of brand recognition. Their logo is recognizable at this point, so spelling out their brand subverts usual design language and instills a sense of premium-ness.
@@Lorentz_Driver I guess that makes sense, but there are examples where the cars were not premium at all. Older Toyota pickups all used to have "TOYOTA" spelled out on their tailgates. Never saw that as a premium vehicle. It also stops being unique when they all start doing it. Then it will come full circle and the badges will return lol.
my guess is that it has to do with the Chinese market that every brand wants to get into. and in that market, people might not actually know how to spell various brands. so they need to be "educated". and then they can search for them online, and hopefully buy one.
Crazy Elon? Doug please do you have to show your politics? I was watching ploiticak stuff and thought , let me watch some doug. And there you go with subtke interjections.
ok so this is something interesting I wanna bring to the table, I have both a leased Tesla model Y (dual motor long range base no other options) and a loaded Touring Subaru Solterra (the technical worst new EV). Yes the Tesla has everything over the Subaru EXCEPT ride comfort, and quality. The Subaru feels like a Rolls Royce over the rattle can Tesla. I suspect the Honda feels great compaired to a Tesla too (2:49). Cant stress how much just that difference sets them apart and actually makes the Subaru feel like such a leap above the Tesla despite its severe lacking capabilities in comparison. I also feel safer in the Subaru because of the lack of road rage and mistreatment from other drivers, for many political reasons to the right person just driving a Tesla insights severe rage, and dangerous driving situations. Thanks for reading this far if you have, just through it would be interesting to share.

@@sammarqus6990 I agree. Prologue just feels like a well-made regular new car. It looks and drives like a new entry-luxury crossover, although somewhat bland with styling, but it was on purpose
There are a couple of them in my neighborhood. The Prologue actually looks demure and classy. 6 seconds 0-60 is quicker than most ICE and it’s got the range to go where it needs to. What Doug didn’t mention is that it already has access to Superchargers.
7:50 Doug, you don't need a close and lock button because when you walk away from it, it automatically locks. every honda i've had in the last 10 years has done that so i assume that this will too.
should have had 30 years of research and development and we would have EVs that could charge in 1 hour and go 1000 miles but oil money bought politicians and auto company stocks and we got nothing just look at cell phone battery improvements over the same timeline

We leased our EX AWD for all the reasons he said, Honda dealership, a good relationship with them, a fairly deal, and a huge leap forward from a CRV in terms of comfort, performance and styling. 300 miles in and no regrets yet. I can’t believe he didn’t mention the one pedal driving, cause it’s fantastic. Clearly he didn’t push the button and engage it and use it or he’s so jaded at this point from the incredible cars He drives that it’s just a non-feature.
Apple CarPlay has quite more useful materials than standard Apple applications.
I mean, so, the EPA range on the Teslas is optimistic, and the EPA range on the GM produced vehicles is conservative. This colors so many reviews unnecessarily.
60 grand? I would have guessed 28k.
You can barely get a new Civic for $28k. New car pricing is getting out of hand.

It's also of better quality.

@notsuperstreet The Mach E is an insult to mustangs.
@@DrivingInFocus this new GM shifter is great. It frees up so much space in the center console. Mercedes had this placement for many years

New Prologue looks classy and it’s fast enough for what it is and has plenty of range.
Doug didn’t mention that the Prologue got the stealth Supercharger access with the rest of GM. Just buy and adapter and you’re good to go.

Very good point. I can probably name a dozen cars doing this now and I have no idea why it’s a new trend.

Cant stress how much just that difference sets them apart and actually makes the Subaru feel like such a leap above the Tesla despite its severe lacking capabilities in comparison.
