Thanks for another amazing video rusty. Its finally November and I'm really excited and looking forward for the teaching your gonna start this month. I'm very interested no matter the cost because out of everyone on RUclips you are my go to teacher now. I've learned alot from you these past 6 months and cant wait for more. Let me know how I sign up or how or when your starting this cause I cant wait
This is a very encouraging comment Shane! This is what keeps me going for sure! I will be announcing the launch of the lessons on my channel and community page! I’m so glad you are interested and we will talk soon buddy✌️
@@rustysguitar1 awesome rusty. Even more excited. I'm so looking forward to it. Cant wait for the announcement you can count me in my friend. Thanks rusty and see you on the next one!!
@@thatshaneguy546 Thank you my brother✌️
Thank you for that it was very inspiring.
Excellent lesson. Having played for decades, I knew pretty much everything you showed, all the shapes, scale tones, etc, but the way you put it all together resonated more than it has for me in the past. And that little sliding barre for the B chord is something I never really thought of before, but will add it to my repertoire. So simple I feel silly for never having thought of it before. This is the first lesson of yours I've looked at, but just subscribed, and will be looking into your other videos.
I owned various guitars at various times throughout the last 50 years. I never practiced, never knew what to practice and never did anything consistently with them. Thusly although I dreamed of playing the guitar well, I never advanced beyond the level of basic beginner. This video has done more for my playing growth and development than anything I’ve tried over the last 50 years. Now that I’m retired with not as much to do, you and this video have given me a great gift of hope. I can’t thank you enough.
Hey Mark, I’m so happy to read your message! It’s great that you have a new excitement for playing again! If you ever have any questions don’t hesitate to ask! Have a fun week playing that guitar 🎸 This week! Rock on Mark! Thanks 🤛
Very well put there. Mark!!
Thanks for sharing that mr mark, U definitely assured me stick to this myself… my opinion mr rusty has the best lessons even an ole boy from south ga like man Can understand and learn.. this guy mr mark is amazing.. thank u both
Started playing at 23. Power chords for about a year. Had a kid and didn't pick up again for almost 30 years. Started 6 months ago and have been kicking my ass every day for putting it down. Love Rusty's lessons...so detailed and visual.
Hey rusty, thanks again. I seem to only watch your videos of late and am considering cancelling my normal lessons as I get more out of your videos. Your description is amazing. If only you lived in the uk for 1 to 1 lesson 😃
Wish I knew a bloke like you growing up to teach me guitar. You're a very passionate and patient teacher. Well done and thanks
That would’ve been cool to jam with you, Anthony! Your comment means a lot buddy! Thanks for checking out the video👍
I’m so glad I found your channel. Hands down, one of the best out there. Each video I end up watching over and over again. Thank you for your time.
I’m glad you found my channel also Jeremy! I appreciate the kind words! This is what I call support and it means a lot to me! Enjoy the rest your day buddy✌️
Simple but very effective. Thanks Rusty for the lesson!
I appreciate that Doug! Thanks a lot man ✌️
What an amazingly informative and “MUSICAL” lesson!
So many lessons just plod up and down the scales, here we are actually playing music! Thanks Rusty!
Thanks so much Howard! Simple can sometimes sound really good! I appreciate the comment and enjoy your week✌️
Rusty what an amazing explanation on how to see 'into' the pentatonic scale and make musical sense of it. I am just starting to learn these scales and I feel so fortunate that I came across this lesson as you have provided me clear direction and intentionality in my learning. Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge!
I’m so glad you came across my channel also! Hopefully you can take away some ideas from the upcoming lessons! Thanks so much Nihal ✌️
Your lessons are really helping me , understanding the fretboard. Also your teaching on soloing up and down the neck is so much easier to understand. It’s making more sense to me. Thanks Rusty.
Glad to hear it Julie! Thanks for leaving a comment! Enjoy your weekend 👌
Man... I've been watching a lot of video lessons here in RUclips lately, but this lesson really made me connect the points, you are an awesome teacher. Best regards from Brazil!
Thanks so much. I’m glad the lesson was helpful! See you soon.👍
Very wonderful and worthy exercise Rusty! Thank you so much my friend!
I appreciate it Rafa! Thanks buddy ✌️
I love the way you teach, it's like talking to a friend
Right on Dewey! I really do feel like I’m talking directly to you guys! Talk to you soon👍
@@rustysguitar1That technique looks like it’s helpful for learning the Beatles song Don’t Let Me Down.
i love how you break the cords down step by step slow so we can see exactly what your doing i have been on alot of channels and never got the comfort of actually learning anything .........this is this best on youtube ..............THE BEST !!!!
This is a great comment man! Means a lot! I hope the lessons help you move forward in your guitar playing journey! Thanks✌️
Thanks so much for sharing. Can’t wait to practice this concept.
Thanks Tumalo! Glad you are going to work on it! I appreciate it buddy✌️
I am still on last video.......great stuff your teaching.,and I'm never to good to learn so thank you.......keep reading that awsome book in background......😃👍
So glad you are taking away ideas from the lessons! It really makes me feel good! Always good to hear from you Buddy✌️
Great lesson Rusty. Pure gold. Thanks.
Thanks so much Kevin! I really am glad you like the lesson buddy✌️
Another excellent lesson. Being able to go up and down the neck in a key, knowing the intervals, and how to add some character is so important. For me, it's the basis of creating art, instead of just playing.
Thanks a lot RUSTY!!!! Those are words of wisdom for sure brother! I appreciate the great comment! Enjoy the rest of your day man✌️
Wow- this is actually a standalone composition - love it!
Yes, it is that simple to play by yourself and sound like music! I really appreciate that great comment Bill! Enjoy the rest your week buddy✌️
Whoa. What a guitar lesson. I've watched hunderds of those in eleven years of my guitar journey and this is top notch! Maybe my arpeggio playing will finally start to flow now.
Glad you got something from the lesson! Thanks so much! Keep on rockin 😎
I will apply this technique in bass. Practice really makes perfect. Have a great time Rusty.
Good to hear from you buddy! Hope all is well with you! Thanks for leaving a comment Byron✌️
Great lesson Rusty! Short and to the point. I always appreciate a simple exercise that helps us break out of those receptive pentatonic riffs.
Glad you liked the video Dan! Rock on! Thanks bro 😎
Hi Rusty watching this amazing toturial, always admire how you showed us to play, wishing you all the best and see you again 😀💯
Thank you for watching! Glad you liked the lesson! Enjoy your day ✌️
Rusty.......thank you for the follow up. You are one of the best teachers, simple to understand and to the point. Thank you!
Thank you, Jerry! That’s kind of you to say! Have a rock and rest of your week👍
As a novice I am really trying to put notes together as well as wanting to focus on country blues. THIS WILL GET ME THERE! Thank you 🙏
Glad you liked the lesson! Thanks ✌️
Thanks, guitar Dad! This is really awesome. I too did the pentatonic scale and chord tone targeting with spotty results. I look forward to using this technique. I can see it is going to be an eye opener!
Thanks Jason, early on I did not do this and I regret it! But I do work at it every day now! So important! Happy jamming! Have a good week buddy ✌️
Man I needed this I've been playing the drums since I was 12 I'm 53 now. I picked up the guitar a couple years ago. Once I got to the intermediate level I could run a little. But didn't know where to run to. And sometimes having to much info on the web can be overwhelming. Every now and then a musician will show up that really knows how to explain needed techniques. Thanks for your time. I had to subscribe.
Thanks a lot Chuck! I’m glad the lesson’s are helpful! I really do appreciate your support bud ✌️
These lessons are gold! Thanks Rusty!
Thank you Mojo! I appreciate that ✌️
Definitely a great habit to get into doing every day in the most effective way. Thanks for sharing that with all of us Rusty. A big help. Big like my friend.
Thanks a lot Ken! Much appreciated buddy ✌️
Thank you Rusty- you rock! I’m 69 and been playing guitar for many years… you simplify great ideas that have helped me be a better player!🎸
I love to read comments like this! Sounds like you’re having fun and moving forward! Have a great week Michael👍
Rusty this is so awesome! I love playing blues! Started years ago playing bass -cannot wait to play this. I’m feeling a little credence in your riffs here! Keep’em coming!!🎸🎸
Nice Michael! Hope you have fun with it! Thanks a lot 🤛
Great lesson and I love the way you present these concepts!! Lovely strat and tone as well
Much appreciated Brian! Thank you buddy 🤛
Another amazing stellar lesson from you Rusty...........I'm using your tutorials everyday and I said to myself I wouldent expect to sound any good at a for at least 9 months to a year............but already in a few weeks I'm sounding so much better melodic and musical..........I really can't wait to hear how I do sound in a year .........thats not me being big headed by the way thats just confidence I've gained from chord tone soloing using your lessons.........a big thank you again Rusty...............Paul from Ireland
Greetings Paul from the USA! Early on I did not focus on any chord tones! So later in life it’s been very hard to implement that into my playing but it is so important! All the great solos we know and love has some degree of chord tones in the solos! Glad you were getting ideas from the lessons! I appreciate it buddy✌️
I love the way he was moving up and down on the guitar man I'm star doing that every day
Glad you are going to work on this technique! Thanks man ✌️
I stumbled upon your channel yesterday. I'm watching just my second video today, but preliminary indications are ... this is a gold mine. Thank you very much for putting these videos together. I can tell already that they're going to be helpful. I've considered myself a frustrated beginner for about 50 years. I like your style of instruction.
Thanks Michael, hopefully I can help connect a few dots together! I went through a lot of years of wasted time! I appreciate the comment! Thanks again ✌️
Awesome lesson and playing Rusty! 👍🏻👏🏻🙌🏻
Thank you Mike ✌️
Like all good guitar players, you make it look and sound so easy. Great lesson cheers Rusty
Thanks for the kind comment my friend! Thanks for the support and enjoy the rest of your day✌️
Thank you for the lesson Rusty! Found some of the embellishments challenging to do but the chord tone runs were very helpful. Lots of golden nuggets to practice. Also your guitar tone sounds sweet as well. Thanks again!
Glad you got something from the lesson! Thanks for the comment Russ! Enjoy the rest of your Sunday 🙏
Great exercise! Seeing the inversions over the pentatonic boxes is something I've been working on. This is a melodic way to accomplish that. And it makes me "see" the notes in the double-stops instead of just memorizing the patterns.
I love when we make those little connections! It really keeps us motivated! Thanks for the comment Mark! 👍
I am an intermediate guitar player and this is exactly what i need. This is easy to understand I just have to practice putting everything together. Amazing. I love love your tone! I subbed you!
Thank you! I’m glad you dig the lesson! Have a great week👌
Great lesson. I like your musicality. You play nice and not only that you share great things. You’re helping me and so many others should like we always knew we could. You’re the best. Thanks man. From my heart.
That’s kind of you to say DR! Means a lot bro 😎 Happy jamming this week! Talk to you soon ✌️
I learn't this years ago by ear but great to be teaching and saving years off what I did to the up and coming guitarists. Also great to hear someone teaching who doesn't use a ton of distortion and reverb etc. Nice and clear sound. tks man
I did the same thing. Learning some of those concepts by ear. We do have a lot of resources to learn from today though. Thanks so much for taking the time to watch my lessons! Enjoy your weekend.✌️
Man this has already opened a new door for me I've been on this for while I play this a lot but didn't know how to explain myself thank you sir. 2thumbs up
Sounds like you have fun on that Guitar! Glad you got some thing from the lesson! I have a great week ahead, James👍
Hey Rusty, i love your teaching style. Same age but nowhete as good. Your lessons will help me to close the gap :) Thanks for the enthusiasm and time you put in. Keeping it real and making a difference man! 👍
I enjoyed your comment MJ! Glad you are taking away some ideas from the lesson’s! Keep on ROCKIN BRO 😎
Fantastic and motivational tutorial to help people play better guitar , as always a great lesson Rusty , well done my friend 🎸🎸👏👏🙏🏻
Thanks Trevor! Always good to hear from you! Have a great weekend✌️
Rusty thank you brother!! I’ve been putting in so much work on my scales up and down the neck and found myself playing one position and jumping to the next. I have been watching a bunch of your lessons and you have opened my eyes to flowing through these positions in a more horizontal way and focusing on the 1 3 and 5’s. You’ve simplified all this jumble of knowledge I’ve had in my head and made guitar way more fun for me. Thank you!!
Your comment means a lot to me Scotty! Glad you are taking away ideas from the lesson’s! We definitely need to have fun playing this awesome instrument 🎸 Thanks so much and have a great weekend ✌️
@@rustysguitar1 you too!!
Awesome video. When I took lessons in junior high he just showed me pentatonic scales and that was it. This would have helped me immensely! You explain a complicated process in a understandable way that would have helped me connect the dots!
Yea man! We really needed lessons like this many many years ago! Let’s learn this stuff together! Thanks Bill ✌️
Man I discovered your channel yesterday and it's sooooo good mate.all very practical with good concepts behind it. You're saving me from the hell of noodling !! Love from Australia
Thanks man! We are all guilty of noodling! It’s definitely better to have a plan when we practice! Greetings from the USA!
Just started watching but already have liked this technique. Thanks Rusty
Always appreciated Tony ✌️
Rusty, excellent job explaining the how too’s of playing. Thanks, glad I came across your videos.
I’m glad you came across my videos also! I hope you get some good ideas from the lessons! I appreciate you leaving a comment Marvin ✌️
Only the second video, of yours, I've watched. Even though it is above my knowledge and skill level, I have and will continue to learn from it. Thank you again for sharing your experience, knowledge and passion. BEST AND PEACE.
Thanks for taking the time to watch some of my videos, Chuck! Also, it helps you know what to work on to be more advanced. You’re welcome and all the best to you also Chuck.👍
I love your tutorials, thank you so much Rusty!!
Nice Henry! I am happy to help! And you’re very welcome👍
What a revelation! Thanks so much!!
Glad you got something from the lesson! Thank you 👍
I stumbled across this video and I’m so pleased I did. Now looking forward to watching your other videos. Thanks again Bruce
Hey Bruce, I’m glad you stumbled on the channel buddy! I hope you get a lot of ideas from the videos! Thanks✌️
Thanks. Yes I aimlessly play the scales and this puts it all together. Will def start doing this.
So glad to hear that Dan! Thanks a lot buddy ✌️
I’m really enjoying your videos, Rusty. Please keep ‘em coming. So glad I subscribed.
Much appreciated Steven! Thank you and have a wonderful Easter Sunday 🙏
Rusty thank you so much for this video You are a wonderful man 🙏🥰❤️
That’s kind of you to say my friend! Thank you so much✌️
Awesome lesson Rusty! I've never seen anyone explain the use of major chord notes as well as you have! Looking forward to more.
Right on buddy! I’m glad you liked the lesson! Thanks for watching😎
Thanks, exactly what I needed ! Great lesson.
Thank you! Much appreciated ✌️
Olá amigo abençoado, parabéns pelo o lindo trabalho. estou com você. adorei o seu trabalho .
Thank you 👍
This is a really great and simple lesson; I don't understand why other instructors get so into the weeds of things. Probably the best thing one can do in guitar is memorize the fretboard.
Thanks Lou Lou! Always good to memorize the notes, little by little! I appreciate the comment and enjoy your holidays ✌️
I LOVE that Strat you’re playing. The shiny new ones are nice but yours has history. The stories it could tell.
That guitar feels comfortable! Thanks for watching! 🤛
Rusty this is really helpful. I'm transitioning from playing random Pentatonic to targeting my notes and this lesson is super informative. Many thanks 👍
I played random pentatonic for years! The time is now to change our thinking! Glad you liked the lesson! Enjoy your weekend buddy ✌️
Nice demonstration Rusty. Would love to have you in a band for sure!👍
Oh yeah it would be fun to jam with you also Jamie! I really appreciate the comment man! Enjoy the rest your week buddy✌️

Glad you like it buddy! Thank you✌️
I have to say thank you so much for explaining this awesome technique. It has already helped my phrasing so much.. You are a savior! 🎸💯🎶
Glad to hear it! Thanks for dropping by! ✌️
Excellent lesson this week Rusty - "BackintheDay" when I "played" it was mostly by ear, but I think if I'd had your lessons things might've turned out way differently!
That’s kind of you to say Karen but you turned out perfect! I enjoy our RUclips friendship! Enjoy the rest of your week Karen❤️
@@rustysguitar1 Thanks Rusty, it's funny cos I watch your lessons like I'm actually gonna try and play, yet my hands no longer cooperate due to tendonitis, carpal, etc! LOL
@@BeatlesGirlKaren Thank you Karen! I know you have the talent! But I know what you mean because my arthritis is starting to restrict me also! I appreciate your friendship ❤️
Rusty thanks for another fantastic lesson and joining up the dots my playing is coming on great. If sometime you could do a lesson on looping it would really help.
Hey Ray, here’s a link to one video I did just a little while back How To Use a loop pedal for guitar practice

All right - that was fun! Advanced beginner here 😊. This connected some dots for me. Has really given me a boost and productive way to spend some guitar time. Thanks!
Hey Brad, that’s good to hear! It’s exciting to connect the dots on the fretboard!!! Have fun with that guitar bro 😎 Happy Sunday 🙏
The best way to improve your guitar playing. I truly believe that. A beautiful video, Rusty. Have a nice day 😊
Thank you Michelle! Your kind words are always appreciated! Have a wonderful day ❤️
sounds great and thank you for insight,! However as basic chord player who can play easy rock songs I have no idea what you are talking about 😢 You could be talking Chinese for all I know. 😅
You are an excellent teacher... it sounds soooo.... good! ❤🙏
Thank you Erik! I appreciate that brother 😎
Yet another gem Rusty.
So grateful for this..❤ brother.
I appreciate that! Right on my friend! Thank you 🤛

Yes yes please let me know! It will help you I promise! Talk to you soon✌️
Another great lesson 2023 is gonna be busy guitar playing year for me..thanks Rusty
This is the first time I have seen your channel. I learned more in this one video, then I have in a whole bunch of other channels. Thanks. I’m subscribing 😊
I appreciate that Duke of Earl! Glad you liked the lesson! Thanks and have a great day man✌️
Great lesson Rusty !! I,ve been using one string interval movements to find the chord intervals and adapt the pentatonics around the intervals to create phrases for a while ..This just opened another door !.What you,ve shown is closely related to a 12 bar blues bass line structure .. (Bass guitarists will relate )
I love it when pieces of information connect 👌 thank you !!
It’s a good feeling when we find connections! Thanks a lot Warren! I appreciate the comment buddy ✌️
Here's another pro tip: If you're having a hard time breaking out of the pentatonic boxes, improvise over backing tracks. Trust me on this, it takes months but you'll get to where you can improvise over anything. Sit down everyday and improvise over at least three full backing tracks. Even if the stuff sounds the same. Just keep doing it. All over music even if the notes take you outside of the notes in the scale.
You are right! I takes many many hours of practice! We just have to keep doing it! Thanks buddy for the comment! ✌️
Nice lesson but please don't ever play an E major chord like that ever again? 😂🤣🤘👍
It’s probably my arthritis why I play it like that! Ha ha! Thanks a lot Clint!✌️
Funny
Not the arthritis, the fingering joke😂
I think we all needed this lesson early on. Good stuff Rusty.
Definitely all of us! Thanks a lot buddy ✌️
I have been practicing this guitar thing for decades. Took me about 50 odd years to start seeing the relationship found between chords and the notes found within them. I am thrilled with one more little step I've taken in my journey
But an added gift...I figured it out all by myself. Videos such as this one confirms what my brain finally allowed me to see and hear. Love music with all my soul. Thank you so very much. God bless.
Hey Gary, your ears led you to the right notes! Keep making those connections! That’s exciting! Talk to you soon👍
Just found your channel and I'm glad I did. It's like your speaking directly to me with what you're teaching. Thank you Thank you Then you.

Love the way you teach rusty! You make it seem so easy and it could be once you get that muscle memory. I m 70 only playing for 5 years A little more difficult on acoustic but still a lot of fun
I’m glad you’re getting something from the lessons. Hope you have a happy Sunday Jon. Thanks 🙏
Loooooove this!!! Thank you
Thanks Aaron! Much appreciated ✌️
So good that lesson just blew me away I should be able to solo past the 12 fret easy that way
Sounds good Steven! Rock on bro 😎 Thanks 👍
That sounds so good. This is exactly what I'm looking for. I can wander around the pentatonic with the best of them but I want to play something related to the underlying chords.
Yes, if you hit some of those chord tones in your solo, it will come alive! Thanks for checking out the video and have a great weekend👍
I will learn this lesson, it's an essential... Thank you sir for sharing this 🙏🏻🎸
Glad you like the lesson John! I appreciate your support also✌️
Wow 😳. Rusty your right here so many different types of avenue thank you great 👍 person that loves playing and teaching
Thanks Richard! I appreciate your comment ✌️
This came naturally to me very early in my playing by listening to Jimi as a teen, but having some light musical exposure from school band and church choir. Great building blocks to sprinkle a little extra improv over the top.
Thanks AlIen! You definitely know how important it is to know some theory and to follow those chords! And then adding some technique brings it all together! I appreciate the comment man✌️
Thank you so much for sharing.
