All I wanted to know is best settings for underwater with my DJI. I'm not a camera geek and don't publish stuff to the interwebs. PERFECT summary. Thank you!!!
I have a few comments to add: I got a DJI OSMO ACTION 3 recently to film my SCUBA dives in the Philippines N.B.: The camera was able to take a 512Gb SanDisk Ultra SDCard without any issues whatsoever 1) I used an underwater case I bought from Amazon 2) I shot in 2.7K @ 60fps 3) My case fogged up about 10 minutes into the dive 4) My camera overheated about 40 minutes into the dive 5) My battery lasted the duration of all dives (up to 72 minutes) SO 1) I continued to use the underwater case 2) I continued to shoot in 2.7K @ 60fps 3) I FLOODED my case on the surface with FRESH DRINKING WATER 4) My camera case did not fog up at all during the dives 5) My camera did not overheat at all during the dives 6) The FRESH water in the case was quite HOT when we emptied it (good for washing hands) 7) My battery lasted the duration of all dives (up to 72 minutes) 8) The lens protector was NOT waterproof even within the case @ 1ATM 9) After each dive I needed to remove the lens protector to wipe away condensation 10) At night I left the camera open (all ports) to get rid of any water incursion 11) The camera lasted through 12 dives over 3 days (1 battery per dive) 12) The camera is working fine right now Thanks for the settings. The camera was driving us crazy by turning off screens, cutting off recordings, blanking out, etc... Hopefully your tutorial will help avoid the above problems For those reading along, I like to look through the rear screen as I dive and want it on at all times during my ~1 hour dives. I do not like screens blanking out because the lens of the DJI OSMO Action 3 is offset to the left, which makes it hard to frame shots with a blank screen. In the Dive case, the touch screen is not available, only the shutter and on/off buttons are. I have just bought a ring light to affix to the dive case, for better macro video
Thanks for infos, i think for underwater photography, you need to manage shutter speed because subjects move always and also your flotability can be shaky sometimes (varies many underwater factors). For photography, i tested with shaky gesture or small subjects movement and around 1/160 or 1/200 , they are enough sharp. Below, they start to blur. Videography is another topic.
Thanks! I just got an Osmo Action 4, and like it so far! Do you happen to know what is the best setting to use for stills for the aspect ratio? For example, if I set it to 4:3, is it just cropping to that size? I'd like to use the full, native size of the sensor to capture the most, and crop later if needed.
Best would be to use 4:3 for stills unless you know you plan on taking a wide angle shot in 16:9 of something huge from a distance (shipwreck, reef or kelp forest etc.) ahead of time. The big downside to action cameras is that you can't change the aspect ratio or other settings once you're underwater.
nice informative video :) 1 question : have you tested the DJI OA with the red filter on at depths > 5 meters? If yes, can you share some details pls. cheers
Thanks! 😀 No, we haven't tried any filters with it. However we have used it up to 25 m without any filters and it performs well. Check these videos if you want to see the footage: ruclips.net/video/hu-DOLJ1hA8/видео.html ruclips.net/video/jzdSSL_1Eyw/видео.html cheers!
@@backpackerhumpback thank you very much for the feedback. I basically need a solid action cam for underwater stuff, in the 5 to 30 meter range within 300 euros. i also looked up some red/violet filters on amazon for the DJI OA. thanks again for this video and other one, helped me :) Cheers
Not sure how much time does it actually last when filming 4k 60fps non stop, but after two 40 minute dives while actively taking photos and videos, it usually ends up with 10-20% battery left. Also, when spending a day at the beach freediving I usually just use one full battery. Also, it charges via usb, so you can take a power bank with you to charge it which is handy. I can run a test of filming 4k60fps until it drains the battery, if that interest you?
Yeah, absolutely! specially considering the price. But it depends a bit on what you want to do with it and how much is your budget. The more recent Gopros will probably have some newer features but overall there is nothing that would make us switch so far. Let us know if you have more questions! 🙂

I got a DJI OSMO ACTION 3 recently to film my SCUBA dives in the Philippines
N.B.: The camera was able to take a 512Gb SanDisk Ultra SDCard without any issues whatsoever
1) I used an underwater case I bought from Amazon
2) I shot in 2.7K @ 60fps
3) My case fogged up about 10 minutes into the dive
4) My camera overheated about 40 minutes into the dive
5) My battery lasted the duration of all dives (up to 72 minutes)
SO
1) I continued to use the underwater case
2) I continued to shoot in 2.7K @ 60fps
3) I FLOODED my case on the surface with FRESH DRINKING WATER
4) My camera case did not fog up at all during the dives
5) My camera did not overheat at all during the dives
6) The FRESH water in the case was quite HOT when we emptied it (good for washing hands)
7) My battery lasted the duration of all dives (up to 72 minutes)
8) The lens protector was NOT waterproof even within the case @ 1ATM
9) After each dive I needed to remove the lens protector to wipe away condensation
10) At night I left the camera open (all ports) to get rid of any water incursion

Very useful! Thank you so much!
Glad it was helpful! Thanks!
Nicely done!
Thanks so much!
hi, great video. I can find the underwater white balance setting on my dji osmo 4. i only have automatic and manual mode. Any ideas?

Yes please show how you grade thé ciné d color profile
We'll be doing a video on that in the next month or so! 😉
Do you use - Photoshop, Lightroom or Adobe Pro for color grading?
Great info...👍👍👍 im new subcriber
Thanks so much and welcome! 😃
