I really like the awkwardness between the two at the beginning, they aren't really sure what to do with each other. It was always supposed to be that they would separate after she gone to the fireflies, and survival was keeping these two together but now they don't really have to worry about supplies, shelter or being outnumbered nor alone. But now what is actually holding these two together? An implied surrogate father or daughter thing that ellie probably isn't even sure how that is supposed to work nor even sure she wants. It's a cool scene to watch play out and coming together with joel singing and playing to then promise to teach her how to play to connect them again not through a common objective or practicality but an actual bonding experience a father would actually have to spend time with their daughter, and ellie actually reciprocated. Mwah, beautiful scene for a sequel 10 outta 10.
TBF Joel is just now feeling guilty about lying so that makes him uncomfortable. If they're just recently back in Jackson it's Ellie's first opportunity EVER to establish some kind of personal space as well after months of being basically within sight and earshot of each other 24/7 except for restroom breaks (or when kidnapped). So they need to figure it out!
"if i ever were to lose you, i'd surely lose myself." the fact that that line is true about both of them. joel, losing himself to his trauma over losing sarah and not wanting to lose ellie, too. ellie, losing herself in her survivor's guilt and her quest for vengeance. both of them, filled with so much rage and pain, and both being truly alone in that agony. both committing horrific acts in the other's name. both only getting some semblance of peace before the worst thing happened to them. joel 's peace was ellie being willing to at least try and forgive him, right before he died. ellie's peace was letting abby go, bringing herself back, and facing everything she had lost and who she would become. the saddest thing is their worst fears came true. joel lost ellie. ellie ended up completely alone. they deserved so much better.
Joel made a profound mark in Ellie’s life even tho he wasn’t Ellie’s dad . To all the men out in this world that have a daughter & have a great relationship with them , you have to remember , you are the first male remodel in there life , you are the first male to have ever loved them & who took care of them & taught them things & even tho they will grow up , no matter what you are still their father & after they turn 18 you may not be able to scold them for anything they have did that maybe a poor decision , you can only give them advice from this point on . Teach them well , teach them kindness , teach them respect & teach them how to protect them selfs , because one day when Gabriel signs your warning bell & GOD comes for you & you leave this earth , you can rest easy knowing that these things you taught her will help her move on without you .
because he killed her dad not defending her actions but in this world i would kill somebody for killing my dad i do wish things were different but for what the game is i understand why things happened the way they did
Seeing papa Joel sing to Ellie and uphold his promise to teach her to play guitar and how to swim made me extremely happy to see.

Such an amazingly beautiful moment and perfectly rounded out the characters relationship. I will never forgive naughty dog for them killing this man
They are not seeking for ur forgiveness lol. It’s like saying u don’t forgive Rockstars games for killing Arthur
Killing Joel was a great narrative choice. No matter how hard a pill it is to swallow that he's dead
THEY HAVE TO MAKE PART 3!!!!! IT MUST BE DONE!
@MC CRAFTER but more Ellie!!!
This scene hits hard specially for me, a musician who's longing for a daughter... Glad to know people are changing their minds over this game.
Same here
Yeah true. I actually like this game.
Joel to Ellie : If I ever were to loose you, I'd surely loose myself
Who knew it will come true 😭
He thinks he's singing about himself, but ...
