      The movement to electric vehicles is going to ultimately make all cars “silent”. I don’t really think we need decibel meters because most of the people who can afford to buy cars like this play their music as loud as they possibly can. For some people the included speaker system isn’t enough so they upgrade the speaker system and add subwoofers in order to shake the block.
      I’m willing to bet that there’s more ghetto blasters and luxury cars than there are in economy cars.

    As a mercedes fanboy and E-coupe owner, I really like much of the design of this car - especially in the interior. I appreciate the unique design details and architecture in contrast to Mercedes' designs for its next-gen cars. Mercedes' infotainment is king, however, the use of piano black and capacitive touch is not luxury. . . it's becoming technology for its own sake rather than for the experience. This Genesis feels closer to Mercedes' last-gen blend of luxury integrated with technology. BMW is even worse with it's overdesigned angles and cheap gimmicks (see the "crystal" light bar in the new 5 & 7 series). BMWs look more like gaming laptops. It bothers me that most people misunderstand "minimalism" and actually prefer clean contemporary design and build quality that's not busy or overdesigned. Tesla truly has a minimalist interior. Mercedes & BMW should not follow. This G90 is more the perfect blend of technology, tactile buttons, and ergonomics that I prefer and it should get credit for originality. Too bad it actually can't hang with the ride quality, insulation, and refinement of the E & S classes.

  • @JohnBest84

    I love the G90. Since the new one came out. It looks like a modernized Bentley with a modernized Mercedes C219 rear. The materials are better then in a Merc, also the finishes and build quiality. And that comes from me, a owner of 6 S-Classes till now. I would go for the G90 immediately, if there would be a V8 with minimum 500 PS - than the car would be perfect to me! And the steering wheel, i would like to have the new 3-spoke one of the GV80 facelift. Everything else is perfect. And i absolute love that you have the choise: you can go touchscreen, touchpad or still with classic buttons, which is so much user friendly, then the germans with only touchscreens. A dark grey one with red interior please :) - such a crazy and cool looking car! Respect to Genesis!

    • @jeffs6090
      @jeffs6090 Год назад +4

      It's been a problem with cars since day one. Same with engine performance. Really, only with the Germans can you get smaller cars with power (S/RS, M, AMG). But, in general, in order to get more power and better performance, you need to step up in size of vehicle. And, yes, the luxury interior, you pretty much need to go up in size. If you want power and luxury in a small package, you're almost out of luck. Even an Audi RS3 is still an A3 at heart and therefore not overly luxurious.
      It works in the reverse as well. If you're more on a budget and need the space, it's difficult to find something. There are more choices for that though.

    Excellent review as always, Thomas! Regarding the UV-C LED question, as long as the LEDs only work while the lid of the compartment is closed, it should be completely safe, as UV-C light is non-ionizing radiation (just slightly smaller wavelength than the Violet color), so it will not turn any materials inside the compartment radioactive, as gamma or x-ray radiation would. It also cannot penetrate any opaque material, so there is no danger of UV light escaping the compartment if it is light-tight (can be tested by putting an iPhone with the flashlight on inside the compartment in a dark garage and looking for any light coming through the lid seal). I very much agree with you that since it's a UV source in a not fully-controlled environment, there is a small potential for harmful situations, like a child trying to disinfect their pet gerbil in that compartment with the lid closed, which could harm the gerbil's eyes and skin, but that would most likely be the worst that can happen if the open lid deactivates the UV-C LEDs. If it doesn't, then it is a significantly more serious safety hazard, as looking directly into a UV LED while it is in operation (UV light is invisible, so you can't tell it's on, and the eye won't blink to prevent damage) can be harmful to the eyes, even for brief periods, unless UV-filtering glasses are used.

Of course, depreciation might be a significant cost but most large saloons lose value quickly whatever the brand. I like the exterior styling of the G90 in SWB and the simplicity of the interior. Of the cars on your list the S-Class is the only one that is aesthetically tolerable. I don't understand the current trend of ridiculously oversized and bejazzled radiator grills. Manufacturers have made their cars look hideous and ridiculous in equal measure. I long for the days when good taste and restraint were the hallmarks of "class".

Otherwise, back seated VIP wouldn't like it. G70 or N series small cars from Hyundai are more harder for driver's fun. But Sadly I drive VW Golf 🙂

    Hey Mark a quick tip if you do start doing acoustic measurements of the cabin(and it would be great if you do) is to not just use a db meter but a calibrated microphone and see the acoustic levels of all the frequencies transmitted in the cabin...because just the absolute levels do not tell the whole story( there is thing called ear gain / we are susceptible to some frequencies more than others..I also suggest reading on that... perceived noise in my opinion is a better representation than the absolute total or peak values picked by a db meter...)

How many CEOs and CTOs go through a VFM analysis and check the power performance stats etc. Nothing screams of your arrival better than a merc or bmw (better in a RR or bentley but for the average millionaire its one of the german trio). There are still generations of people who still look up to these vehicles as aspirational and as long as this crowd exists, the german marques will lead this market. Genesis will have to work hard and long and get this cult like following if they are to crack this high value market.

    I personally prefer real leather seats than climate destroying plastic or vinyl seats. Even the fabric is actually made from mineral oils, so it is hardly climate friendly.

    • @autogefuehl
      @autogefuehl  Год назад +6

      Thank you very much for your interest in this topic. I also bought cars with animal skin leather seats before I did my research and got to know the industry. The most important thing is: With today's modern materials, you have nothing to lose, just to gain. You achieve the same kind of luxury and comfort or even better while having the same or better durability with less impact on humans, animals and the environment.
      You can use fabric/cloth, microfibre or leatherette. The classic approach is using oil/plastic as source material. Overall, a vehicle contains about 300 kg plastic. A car seat needs about 5 kg plastic. So the overall plastic share for the seats is very low and it is at this moment the most efficient way to produce a car seat. A couple of litres of fuel equals a car seat basically. So if you want to save oil/plastic, rather look at consumption for energy, fuel and heating and to other car parts than the seat. Note that animal skin leather also always contains a plastic coating for durability. However, long-term we should of course find raw oil alternatives. So going further, seats can be made from recyclables (e.g. from PET-bottles or old fishing nets) or even increased share of plant-based materials (like pine oil, canola oil or start-up materials like Pinatex from pineapple leaves or Desertex from cactus fibre or the mixed-plant-based Mirum, so be seen at ruclips.net/video/S1aNZeoatmE/видео.html). On a calculation base, by ditching animal skin leather from car interiors, the amount of emissions (CO2e) is reduced by 85 (!) % (www.press.bmwgroup.com/africa-dom-easteurope/article/detail/T0403389EN/on-the-market-from-2023:-bmw-and-mini-models-with-vegan-interiors?language=en) - and that is a very conservative calculation. So it is at this moment the most important thing you can do to make car interiors more sustainable.
      A good example for high-end luxury with ventilated animal free seats is the BMW X7 with Sensafin: ruclips.net/video/1pRNkW9nrrw/видео.html
      And the Kia EV9 with plant-based oil share: ruclips.net/video/6vXePQi_MAk/видео.html
      New leatherette materials can be superior in every aspect, even for cleaning: ruclips.net/video/u94YXJ72UTA/видео.html
      More and more natural materials are rising: ruclips.net/video/nRSsXEnwHDo/видео.html
      Also check out what the animal skin leather industry tried to with our channel: ruclips.net/video/nP_CvLlaFlI/видео.html
      For seeing how the animals are being treated and transported in the global leather industry, watch this footage: ruclips.net/video/tkjCAmq1_8E/видео.html
      Note that the footage is genuine and was recorded by a highly decorated investigative journalist in Germany I know myself personally.
      In a high animal skin grade, the animals are specifically raised for this matter. However even if meat is the "first" misuse case, the hide remains a profitable body part. That means: If manufacturers put animal leather in a car and you demand it as a customer, you give your money to an industry that earns money by oppressing humans, animals and harms the environment, you make them more profitable. Alternatively, you could support industries with your wallet which try to improve the sustainability of materials. Also, if you turn the argument around to "meat is the waste of the leather industry" you realize that it doesn't make sense (and is ethically doubtful) to discuss the primary use of individual body parts of mammals. Mind experiment: You are getting slain down on the street; would it matter to you if it was for your smartphone or for your purse?
      We cannot change what we have bought in the past, but with more information and compassion we can change how we decide in the future.

    • @PassportBrosBusinessClass

      There is nothing climate friendly about real leather seats.

Genesis really putting the competition to shame with what they offer and how they price it. Yes it doesn't have the recognition outside korea but i wiuld pick this one up if i would be looking to shop in this segment. It also is still in europe quite a non known brand which i also kind of like. Genesis really coming against our german brands with a seemingly better product and a true car and not a consumer product. Well done

    • @Astke
      @Astke 11 месяцев назад

      There are many cars who look better than this imo. That grille is hideous and the rear end is just odd. Not that the competition is much better...
      To me it feels that people like you who like underdog brands, often try too hard to make the "established" brands look bad. There is no need to say this: '"Genesis really coming against our german brands with a seemingly better product and a true car and not a consumer product." A true car? What?
      All of these cars are excellent cars. Every car has pros and cons and their own appeal. G90 might offer the most for the money but if I would spend over 110 grand on a car anyway it would better have something crazy high tech to offer, and be crazily customizable. The G90 does not have that. The interior feels 5 years old already. I like some buttons as well but this is too much. It ticks most of the boxes but does nothing special either. So for that reason I think the BMW is the best simply because it offers an electric version and has the insane tech factor. It feels up to date but still offer a healthy mix of touch and physical controls.
      A8 needs an update though. it is not great
