lmboo yes come save me with some ramen. ALSO BOO! They chose to cut this out but I didn't have an ear infection. The photoshoot challenge before this shoot where we DOVE off of a huge cliff into the ocean with strong waves and sharp point rocks. THEY DIDN'T MENTION I actually got injured in that shoot. My ear was bleeding and all jacked up. So the pressure from being underwater after damaging my eardrums was the problem. Also, before the shoot, I told them I can't hold my breath long... (excuses tho) lol They did me in on this shoot. Thanks so much for the understanding boo :)
I'm sorry they did you like that. You still were a great part of the season and your photos were beautiful. I hope life is wonderful for you right now, even with everything going on in the world! 🥰🥰🥰
It also sounds so rich to me when they talk about you making "excuses". I'm sure all of them got to keep on their regulators 24/7 and wear professional diving gear, masks, the whole works... they're not expected to make poses and and perfect faces with zero training in diving, holding their breath over and over again :/
Also gguuurrlll you were like legit as close to the surface as the other models. For them to say the surface was present in your photo? They can take a long walk on a short pier bbyyyeeee
I'm so sorry!! That sucks. I used to be a springboard diver and they literally spent like the first three lessons teaching us how not to smack our ears because ear drum injuries are so common. I did once smack my ear, luckily didn't rupture my eardrum. But yeah, I had to take off the next few days just to make sure my ear was ok before going in the water again.
Also, my husband has asthma and really struggles with the water because of it.
That's so fucked up they didn't accommodate you at all!! Totally on your side.
This shoot made me so mad! I have one thing to say to these dumb producers.....PEOPLE DIE EVERY DAY FROM ASTHMA!!!! You were right to take care or your body during this shoot.
This show is less of a modeling show and more of a survival show
America's Next Top Model jumped the shark right after Cycle 12 where the show became gimmicky.
We need an ANTM x Fear Factor crossover
Lol so true
literally reminds me of the show survivor lol
Survivor: Amatuer Model Edition
If something happened to Sundai, they would have been mad at her for "not knowing her limits." 🙄
You died, so what? Many people die during photoshoots, don't let your death affect the final photo!
@@TheFreeGreenChannel Tyra: "one time I died during a photo shoot. But I got right back at it. No excuses."
@@frozenraspberries1552 omg this one SENT me. I laughed so hard.
booby scoo too yeah just like she blamed Carrie D. for staying in that freezing pool
Don't complain about anything until you're in trouble for not complaining
The hating on Sundai because of her asthma, saying that there are athletes, divers, and other models who have it. Sure, but they have freaking practice!
I have asthma myself, I can't stand being under water. It makes my feel like I'm dying and claustrophobic. Even just swimming underwater
I don't think they know what asthma is tbh
Asthma also comes in a lot of different forms and in varying degrees of severity. I'm asthmatic, and I can exercise a little bit (like. Maybe 2 minutes of moderate exercise) before I need to stop and use my inhaler (Yeah, I need to exercise more, lol). My mom also has asthma, and she climbs mountains while wearing a giant backpack stuffed to the brim with camping gear for fun. Some people have asthma attacks because there's pollen or mild pollutants in the air, and exercise has no impact on it. It all depends on the person.
Sundai might have very severe asthma. She might have very mild asthma.
IMHO, the fact that she brought it up as a possible health concern means the crew should have immediately made Sundai's safety their top priority while she was being shot (This should be the case anyway, but doubly so when medical conditions are involved). But of course, it's ANTM, so she was clearly just 'making excuses'. After all, if professional athletes can do it, surely it can't be THAT hard.
Exactly my thoughts! They don't just plunge into the ocean.
They require intensive training over years to overcome the disadvantages asthma brings. Even they couldn't just do it first time.
Rescue Diver here, this is so dangerous, not only could they have gone below depth limits for non-divers, and going down twice probably without the time necessary for a surface interval, some of the girls said they had an ear problem or asthma, meaning they should have had a full medical before even thinking of going down! Once again another example of ANTM not caring for their contestants. Great video btw!
Im a diver too and this shocked me. I went on a dive once where about 5 min before I learned I was the only one who was certified.. No partnering either.. I was like....okkkkk at least we are only going 30ft. The guide was pushing us to swim REALLY fast out to a certain point. Once we got there I noticed that I had about 1000 psi left (from the 2500 we left with). I was like, we have to turn around now. He kept saying no, keep going. On the way back I checked my air probably ever 30 ft. I got to the point where I was at about 300 psi and was like I dont care that you want us to keep swimming im surfacing. The people that where not checking their air/didnt know how to dive well didnt even realize they where so close to running out of air.. Whenever I see things like this, it brings back all the anger I felt in how little they cared about what would happen if something went wrong.. Its shocking and infuriating.
Dive instructor here. This is not a deep dive. Look at the colours and the depth between 4:00 and 5:16. They're at about 1-5m meters. 3 experienced divers in the wayer plus one on a flotation device. From the technicial standpoint she's quite safe. (Although it must have been a terrifying experience for her).
Ear problem.....big nono.
Asthma...depends. i have asthma....but I am also a professional diver. For a beginner it can be very very dangerous indeed.
Im shocked they did this! But yet I'm not.
It’s amazing any diver agreed to this. Everyone should have been trying to talk them out of it and use a different method.
I had hoped to do this on vacation with my bf when I learned that the severity of his asthma means that he needs to be signed off to dive.. the changes of tank pressure pose a real risk to some asthmatics. this was extremely flippant of antm... once again, risking models lives for drama
“many divers have asthma”
ok? this girl is obviously not a professional diver trained to stay calm and know what to do underwater......
Right? and those same divers have spent moths or years training to overcome both physical and mental barriers that allow them to dive comfortably
What a stupid thing to say
Also divers don’t take their regulators and BCDs off and just float without oxygen for a while!
Mr. Jay is a mean girl.
Exactly
Not all asthmatics are the same either. I’m not allowed to dive. I was told I needed signing off by my doctor and they refused because they said it would be far to risky for me
I’m a professional diver and one of the very first things you learn is do not dive with any ear issues! Also, typically, it is dangerous to hold your breath when breathing from a regulator because your lungs can literally explode!
And they don’t know buoyancy control so that’s bad because of the lungs lol
Diving is never 100% safe. So to let people do this who don't have any experience or propper training is insane.
@@alexandrajacobs2936 I went diving one time with an ear infection and I couldn’t hear for a week it was stupid that I did (I’m certified and go all the time so I should’ve been more careful) but that girl should not have went she could have really damaged her ears
Came to the comments just to say that lol
Both of these exactly. I've only done about a dozen dives, but 2 things I learned while training was don't dive with ear issues and don't hold your breath while at depth. Even if you lose your regulator, still breathe out slowly. You could die otherwise.
And I needed about 8 hours of classroom training and 8 hours of pool training to learn how to safely dive in the ocean even with instructors. They just tossed these women in the ocean with no scuba training.
I was horrified in the first 2 minutes. I can't believe they found certified divers willing to participate in something this dangerous.
Remember when Caridee got hypothermia on that shoot and they were all like 'you have to know your limits'? Yeah, I didn't think they meant it either.
This is so dangerous. If you don’t feel comfortable under water, you should never be this deep and then to have your regulator taken away?? She could inhale so much water. You can’t be panicking under water. This kind of thing takes months of training for professional divers. I’m a professional mermaid, so I have a lot of training in this area. This is insane. Even shallow underwater modeling can be dangerous if you over exert yourself. It’s important to know your limits, which comes with experience.
Not to mention. Most underwater photo shoots that are done professionally are done in swimming pools! Or just literal tanks of water that the model can at least stand up in.
They (the show) don't care about their limits unfortunately.
That's exactly how it sounded to me. And seeing how far they go.... I mean, even if you want to shoot underwater, you can stay close to shore. The lack of respect for the well-being of those girls is incredible!
And why is idiot Jay (or whatever his name is..) not there in the water with them? He should be in the water with them! He should go first to show how it's done!
That guy that's orginising the shoot, he's severely irresponsible. I mean, a new neighbour who just moved into the building my husband is staying in right now had an asthma attack at the end of the move and died! Asthma is dangerous!
Right?! The fact that they mocked her instead of pulling her from the shoot until she was in a better headspace when she panicked is so profoundly negligent. Blows my mind they they didn't offer the girls *any* training.
@@agnesmetanomski6730 your point about Jay is so true (doesn’t want to wreck his perfect hair)
I hate that mentality of “if you voice any kind of concern you’re ‘making excuses’ or ‘complaining’.”
THIS. So much of this is true! ☝️
But also, if something actually happens, the judges (mainly Tyra) tell the girl she should've told them sooner. This show astounds me.
@@apathysatragedy3114 EXACTLYYYY, THERE'S NO WAY FOR THE GIRLS TO WIN
"I know you don't have legs but you need to just get out of your head and walk, all the other girls who have legs are doing it!"

They're literally like:
Model: I broke my leg and need an amputation
Judges: Then walk on your arms
😂😂😂😂
“Excuses, excuses. There are so many people with only one leg, even athletes. You should have hopped.” 😂😂😂
And the at panel they’d have the nerve to say “Ugh, it looks so pedestrian that you’re walking on your hands. Awful decision. You should know your limits.”
I'm dead 💀🤣
“Tyra once walked on her hands through the snow, uphill both ways, to get to a go-see. There are no excuses in modeling.”
We did an underwater photoshoot for an uni project in 2017, and I feel like we, as students, had more safety precautions than these people had. For one, our models were experienced divers and could hold their breath for extended periods of time... And it was in a pool.
I bet that was a really cool experience
Sounds like a once in a lifetime experience! So happy for you! :)
Yeah, risk assessments must not be anywhere near as strick in the States as other countries 😅
model: I have a broken leg, allergic reaction, infection, panic attacks and PTSD so I can't do this photoshoot perfectly
judges: all I'm hearing is excuses
So true tho. I feel bad for these girls...
Watch Tyra say “ I stopped breathing for 30 minutes but I still managed to do my photo shoots” insane 🤦🏻♀️🥸
She lied even the most famous divers can only hold their breath for 5 minutes
“I held my breath for a day. Died. Was rushed to the hospital. Brought back to life. And still managed to do my photo shoots. There’s no excuse...” bye Tyra 🤣🤣🤣
@@foxtrot685 This made me 🤣🤣🤣
Tyra: I literally died and I still got the shot
Ohh that's rich😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣
The only thing that annoys me about the critique Jennifer got is they said she was a bit “too straight” but we all saw her in the photoshoot giving all sorts of shapes. She didn’t choose that picture as her best but we never get to see any other pictures.
And honestly, that pose was very powerful. Maybe not the fragility of a ballerina, but certainly the strength of one.
I literally said this aloud just now when her judging came up. Maybe her face wasn't nice in those? Or they chose her worse pic and said it was the best.
@@rkah6187 it would've worked well for an Olympics magazine or Sports mags.
@@annisaarthur-castro6227 Definitely.
That’s why they should get to pick the pictures rather than Tyra. At least then it’s on the model who choose that picture of judging. But then they can’t pre select ‘bad’ ones.
“I have asthma sounds like an excuse” that dude has clearly never had a bad asthma attack 🙄. Also not everyone’s asthma is the same! So yeah maybe some people dive while having asthma. But she clearly didn’t feel comfy doing it, she knows her body.
He allsaw trained before got into the ocean
This! I have a asthma, and I can't breath well in warm weather, but colder air is, better it is for me (Luckily I live in Finland lol), my friend who also has asthma can't breath cold air, but warm is just perfect for her. So its so stupid to say "there are divers with asthma and they are doing just fine, so should you" -_-'
If Tyra could, she would have launch them into space for a photoshoot, I just know it
And made them take off their space suit 😒
Then get mad because there is no gravity and they aren't posing the correct way
Then, when they all drifted away because she wouldn't tie them to the ship, she'll blame their lack of work ethic
Wouldn't it still be safer than this? 🤔
Well they did an anti-gravity photoshoot in season 7 with the cover girl foundation
I'm that person who can't even open their eyes under water lmao
same lol
Same, it hurts
Same
Sameeeee
I think that is true for most people as that is salty water.
I can’t help but think “the best shot” is never actually the best shot, we always see these gorgeous poses that look wonderful, that catch the light better…and where do they go???
Probably on Tyra's voodoo alter in the burn bowl or something 😂
I saw some really interesting shots from all of them, but they weren't shown. I think the premise of the show should have been the model and the photographer look through and pick the best shot, and then the judge's critique. Wouldn't that be more interesting? or the photographer pick their favorite 5 and the model choose their top shot.
"Your whole body tells a story." That story is asthma.
As a med student this whole episode (and many others in ANTM) is giving me serious palpitations. This could've ended in permanent hearing loss, pulmonary edema and even death.
They weren't going that deep or that long to cause pumonary edema. But the asthmatic model could have had a serious complication tho.
You're not wrong, it only takes one mistake to get water in the lungs at that depth, if they don't get edema what about infections from the salt water in the lungs?
Pulmonary edema is always a risk. The models hyperventilating and panicking is terrible. If they took a breath of compressed and panicked and shot up to the surface, they would be at risk for barotrauma (lung overexpansion most likely)
Ikr the girl with asthma was stressed and stress might worsen asthma + the ocean is full of small particles and water that getting the bronchioles is not a joke what’s wrong with this show
👀😳👀
I think the only thing scarier than the ocean is outer space. Heaven forbid ANTM ever gets their hands on a rocket.
They'd do a Dr Strangelove and have them ride the rocket then be like "why are you looking so terrified? You need to look pretty" meanwhile they'd be suffocating...
@JB Loucks I remember that shoot, the photos were horrible how they edited. Looks just like a bad stock image haha
Holy moly
You're not wrong
😂
Spacewalk Photoshoot anyone? 📸💃👩🚀🚀
I would love Jessica to recreate some of these shoots with the proper care and respect the models and team deserve. It would be amazing and no one would have to suffer for Tyra’s ego and these cruel producers. There were some cool ideas for shoots in ANTM but they just exploited the contestants. Thanks for revisiting these Jessica I love hearing your insight.
They really said, “many divers have asthma and also athletes and models”...umm, is she a diver or an athlete tho?!?! Comparing her experience to that of a trained and experienced professional is just...🤦🏽♀️
“This Olympic athlete who’s trained for twelve years can do it why can’t you, teenager who’s never done it before?”
Sorry I just got to the asthma part. You actually CANT get certified to be a diver if you have asthma that effects your breathing in a situation like this. YOU 👏🏻 CAN 👏🏻 NOT 👏🏻
Where I was certified you could get certified if you had asthma BUT you had to go to the hospital to do a certain test where I believe (I don´t have asthma but my dad whom I got certified to scuba dive does) you had to go in to a chamber with dry air for a certain amount of time and the doctors were studying your condition to see if you had any problems. After you passed that you were allowed to get a scuba certificate. If you don´t do that test and you do have asthma don´t go scuba diving because you don´t know how your body will react to the air from that regulator.
I couldn't get certified because of my asthma 🙋🏼♀️
I have asthma and am certified to 30m but my instructors were super careful and would check on me early on I had to see a dive doctor nearby before diving it's a serious thing to have asthma and try to dive
@@lindagrufman8573 I have asthma, but it’s not so severe that I can’t be certified. It depends on the severity. It looked like she was having trouble holding her breath for any amount of time. She could’ve had a bad reaction. Glad your dad was able to be certified! Diving is a lot of fun
@@mdellapi8735 that’s a bummer, I’m sorry!
A lot of people who don’t have asthma don’t realize that everyone’s asthma is different. So a common comparison to make is “well you can do this because there are athletes who can” like they did to Sundai. However, everyone has different triggers and some people can’t hold their breath very long as a result of their asthma. It’s a common ignorance that isn’t very fair to people who have a breathing issue they can’t control.
exactly! Also, what a BS reason even if you ignore the asthma aspect. There are athletes that can run a mile in under 5 minutes, that does not mean if you ask me to do that I can do it. Athletes are called athletes because they have the training and ability and hours of practice to do some really amazing things! It's just all around insulting! Add in asthma and it's not just insulting BS, it's dangerous!
@@rebeccajesse4604 10000%
I got so annoyed that they were saying she was complaining when she told about her issue, I'm sure too if she had not told and something had happened they would have said why she didn't tell that she couldn't do it, because that seems to be the mentality on this show.
I was soooo upset to hear Jay and Tyra basically give her medical advice on her asthma. They are NOT her doctors, they do not know the severity of her asthma. So bad!!
Me! I'm am asthmatic who can't hold my breath long! I'm so sad for Sundai
As someone with asthma who is also a physician who has spent time learning about hyperbaric and undersea medicine, diving with asthma definitely has risks and those risks increase as the severity of asthma increases. She was reasonable to be worried and I don’t think it’s fair to judge her for that. Yes some athletes and divers have asthma, but with diving, even if she pretreated with an inhaler, the sea salt could trigger an asthma attack and air trapping (seen in asthma) can cause pretty severe lung injury if severe enough. Also, having ear injuries can make it difficult or impossible to equalize the middle ear and actually lead to barotrauma which can be very painful and cause a ruptured ear drum. It was super unprofessional for them to downplay her concerns IMO and she should have been allowed to speak to a physician before this shoot.
It's so satisfying to see an empowered young woman in the industry who is not afraid to clap back at Tyra! We've come a long way, baby.
In this episode, they had a challenge the day before the photoshoot where they had a photographer get shots of them as they were jumping off a cliff into the ocean. When Sundai jumped, the side of her face hit the water first, causing her ear to bleed from the impact. That was the reason why she was having ear pain. They kept giving her such a hard time during her shoot, but they're lucky her damn eardrum didn't burst. I'm sure that had to have been excruciating.
Ommmmg....O.o
I forgot about this!
I was wondering how she got the ear problems! Like, what part of modeling could cause an ear injury??
@@NutyRiver the Tyra Banks part lmao
Omg I didn't know that! How inconsiderate of these people! The actual nerve! 😡
Azizi was right, these people really would put models in the middle of the ocean for a shoot 💀💀
Why did I only now realise that you're a photographer not a model😭😭 youre so beautiful I fr thought you were a model
I love Marisa Miller! She was actually a Victoria’s Secret Angel and a sports illustrated model. She has an amazing personality.
I’m scuba certified and it took me MONTHS to be able to do an open water dive! This is totally not safe especially with the inexperienced models no matter what depth they’re diving
I wasn't scuba certified but I went to the Caribbean and took a few hour practice session and we got to do one shallow diving session like this. Happens all the time at Caribbean resorts, no need to be so dramatic about it, LOL.
@@theshadowfax239 I suppose shallow might be OK, but they seem deep enough for it to be concerning
@@theshadowfax239 oh sure, you went scuba diving on a little vacation on a SHALLOW session but can definitely argue with a PROFESSIONAL if it was dangerous or not to throw a bunch of inexperienced models on an obviously not shallow area. lol
@@theshadowfax239 also, just like you said. you took A FEW HOUR practice. this girls had NO PRACTICE. so, yeah, it actually was dangerous for them, you can't even compare the two experiences.
I got certified with PADI, took a weekend for the studying/in class portion + another day for the tests to be open water dive certified... seriously I would not consider myself qualified and there is a lot to learn, but technically not crazy dangerous if they don't go too deep, have access to the regulator, don't have to swim up quickly, don't have certain medical conditions, and are not down there for long, have medical staff on standby, should be fine? People go to the Caribbean and get to go after a couple hours and get this fake temporary license (I'd say it's a scam if credible resorts offer it- tired once for fun since it's affordable [more so then bringing your own gear at least] and man I did not trust the equipment,,,). Hope the models signed waivers and got asked to make sure it's ok first, but doesn't seem like it. People die from this hobby yearly, one practice session under water is sketch and difficult.
I'm an asthmatic and this hurts me when they say - basically - there are people with asthma and they can do this... Those people in sports with asthma have trainers and doctors/pulm. specialist... ANTM, I doubt they have degrees in anything human related... Apparently, they've never been suffocated by their own bodies...
They can get seriously hurt
Exactly! Also the fact that Asthma doesn't manifest in the same way on every person. I had a PE teacher make me run laps for 12 minutes with everyone because "her daughter's had asthma and she was an athlete" even tho my doctor gave me a note with all the tests I took proving my type of asthma could be induced by physical activity. Result? I almost passed out and they had to call an ambulance 🙃 The worst thing is for a while She got super mad at me for being dramatic (I was like 11)
@@juanitar3882 thats just a horrible pe teacher :(
@@juanitar3882 Seriously! Asthma is different for everyone! There can be different severities and different triggers. People seem to thing that because it's common it's not life threatening or not that big of a deal. It is so much more complex than people think and no one experiences it the exact same way. Ugh. She knows her body better than you, listen to her. As for that PE teacher, I really hope she got into huge trouble! You can't just decide to ignore a doctor's note because you disagree!
As an asthmatic swimmer this pisses me off. Like the danger they're in is unbelievable.
“Many divers have asthma,” yeah, but she’s not a diver, she doesn’t have all the training and all the experience!
I am a disabled RN…and I am disabled because my asthma is so bad. Tyra’s comments about athletes and scuba divers having asthma but still performing…infuriated me. She has no business speaking about medical or psychological issues. It’s a good thing she was on TV because I would give her a piece of mind.
I love watching these with you ❤️
I got so angry when the photographer said that Sundai was coming up with excuses like ear pain and asthma... in that moment his face was so punchable
OK so you said this 2 months and apologies for answering now- but 100% what you said. If she is in pain, she isn't get beautiful shots. And asthma is a real issue, the judges are such dickheads.
Ugh people do not take asthma seriously enough. My grandma died from an asthma attack and I was unable to take a scuba diving course due to my asthma not being well enough controlled. ANTM should have known this (or they did and didn't care)
Aww I’m sorry about your grandma. I don’t think the judges cared at all about anyone’s safety
I’ve nearly died several times from my asthma, it can turn on you really quickly.
They did not take this seriously at ALL
Most people think ANTM is not really real because it's a reality show. But honestly this is the stuff of nightmares.
Forcing an asthmatic to do this was a violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act, tbh. Like Sundai absolutely could have pressed charges.
"The product of our excuses" TYRA she hadn't been practicing in the sea like Ariel.
I’m an underwater fashion photographer and a Divemaster! I have always thought this is so dangerous but also insanely unnecessary! All the models I have ever shot have only ever been using breathe hold/free diver techniques, you can get amazing results without the risks! The responsibility first and foremost is always for your models not to get a good shot! 🙈
Love your videos and your photography ❤️
as someone w a disability i’ve definitely heard people be like “oh well x has it and they’re fine” like there are so many different levels of all disabilities. some people w asthma literally has to carry an inhaler at all times and some barely notice it. everyone is different and it’s so unfair to compare.

Can you imagine if they hired someone to make sure the models were safe. Almost every challenge or photoshoot will be that person patiently listening and saying "no"
technically, yes asthmatic people can go diving but its not recommended because it is dangerous. plus, if you have exercise/cold/emotion induced asthma, you should not be diving at all.
As an asthmatic, I’ve been shamed so many times for speaking up in school. I don’t think people realize it’s a disease and it can be chronic for some. I use to swim because my doctor said it will help build up my lungs... I would end up having to use my rescue inhaler several times. I kept going and practicing. It’s not fair when people shame you or put you down for something you can’t control.
But however I would advise you to keep trying to swim for little bits (obviously if that is an activity you enjoy), your health is the most important thing!
Kids used to make fun of my breathing when we had to run in gym class. So uncool. Kids and adults need to be better educated.
YoU JuSt NeEd To ExErCiSe. I've heard this plenty of times. Even when I was on my fittest condition I was still asthmatic. I can't control what I'm allergic to, Dr. Martinez!
I developed asthma after 25y/o and its So Bad. Like laughing alone can cause an attack that will have me vomiting. I run out of breath so easily now, I could not imagine trying to scuba dive or do hard sports
This is like telling someone hey why can’t you run a marathon, THERE ARE PEOPLE WHO DO IT ACTUALLY
Look _some_ people with no legs run marathons, so obviously you should be able to too!
People have walked on the moon, you should be able to do it too 😅
The way she said “many divers have asthma” in that breathy voice 😆 omg hahah
Does she not understand divers train several times in a controlled environment before they ever even hit the open water ?? Lol
I've had a damaged eardrum, and I can't imagine diving in an ocean... I wasn't allowed to even shower without earplugs.
Not safe at all
I have a scuba diving license, the deeper you go the more “compressed” is the oxygen. If the girls would take a breath in the regulator deep in the water and suddenly go up to surface, the oxygen would expand and do serious damages in the lungs
I can’t imagine doing this photoshoot without a previous classes of scuba diving
That's very trueee and it's scary.
I have a diving license as well, and while what you say is true, they don't look to be so far down that that would be a problem. It looks like they are not further down than 3-4 meters (some of them closer to the surface). Plus during scuba learning we do the same thing - taking out the regulator, putting it back in, doing breath-holds back to the surface.
@@christinansborg997 But you probably had to do other exercises before that
And one girl literally has asthma and no training at all
@@christinansborg997 well you signed up for it knowing your health and risks. They didn’t.
I never would have thought of that! So scary...
When the guest judge is much more helpful than the regular judges lol
i actually loved the asian girl's legs! Her photo was my favorite. The small arch in her back, her straight legs, her face and hair - she did great, she was my favorite in this photoshoot.
As a Diver myself, I completely have my sympathy with these girls.
The surrounding crew showed complete lack of understanding here and it’s absolutely disgusting.
One of the first rules of diving is don’t get in the water if you have a bad feeling and NO ONE can dispute your feelings.
So as someone who dives, my thoughts are: It’s much harder to swim in deep ocean than in a pool. It becomes much harder to push water around when there is more of it, it would be hard for the girls to stay in place without weights (otherwise they would immediately start floating up), opening eyes in salt water is soooo damaging. There is a reason we wear goggles, depending on how deep they went I hope they learned how to equalize their ears. It doesn’t seem like they went that far but still. Panicking underwater is the worst thing you can do, which is why scuba requires training. The minute you start panicking your start consuming oxygen quickly. Without access to oxygen you suffocate. You can still suffocate even if given the regulator if you don’t remember to expel the water (which you do by pressing a button on the regulator). If you want to do underwater photo shoots keep to the pool.
“she’s using every excuse in the book [...] oh i have asthma🙄” uh. imagine. like. being able to breathe correctly HAHA couldn’t be me
mans got NO sympathy
You gave this show much credit for safety. The 1st time I went into the pool for my scuba training, it was a shock trying to breath underwater. I panicked not being able to breathe through my nose. But I just stood up and tried again slowly until I got used to it. That's why that training happens in a pool. It's not natural to breathe underwater & panicking can kill you. Going how deep they were without training is dangerous. As someonr else said, holding your breath while down can kill you if you accidentally ascend far enough that the oxygen in your lungs expands. And diving with an ear injury can lead to permanent damage.
This was so irresponsible. I've watched several of these this week, and this by far makes me the angriest. Now I'm wondering how many of the things I they did that seemed dodgy but I don't have experience with were actually as dangerous as this.
I've done underwater "photoshoots" with my friends for fun. It's really hard and can be scary when you get tangled in your clothes, or are a bit late with getting air. They did such an awesome job!
Sundai said, in an interview, that she damaged her ear drum right the day before this shoot when the models were forced to jump off a cliff. She were afraid that the pressure of going down into the water would make her ear issue worse. Editing made it seem like it was more about her asthma, when it was really her ear issue.
Right! She NOT ONLY had Asthma but also an EAR INFECTION! JFC These people have no souls.
Omg! 😠
How horrible! I feel so bad for her!
Both should be taken as seriously as eachother. Further damage to her ear and just pain in general, the risk of basically drowning due to asthma. Other comments explain a lot better of course, I'm not a professional in any of these fields, but ANTM really can't be accepting of things can they?
It's unbelievable!!!
"forced to jump off a cliff" I would have straight up just said I won't jump I would rather be eliminated then jump down there. I am so scared of falling and hurting myself because of that, jumping off a cliff is a no go. And they forced them to kwkdhxieiwnso omg the American version is even worse then the German version of this show
as someone who's gotten an official diving license this is a HORIBLE IDEA. NOBODY should be down underwater like that if they aren't comfortable, even WITH a regulator, but especially having to take it off. even besides that there's so many things about what to do to maintain your air that are extremely important, for instance to be breathing out when you come back up (which if you don't do can REALLY mess up your lungs) and how to properly signal to your team that you need something. Being able to go diving can take months of training to do properly (Or longer depending on the license and how well you complete the training) and even BESIDES that, when diving there are plenty of things that could simply not work out one day. For instance if your ears are acting up then they may not adjust to the pressure properly, which can cause a lot of pain and dizziness, and all around just problems as a whole. Depending on the depth and where they are temperature can also be very important! it can get incredibly cold underneath the water especially without a proper suit! To do this kind of photoshoot safely at all the girls would at least have to know their limits, which isn't POSSIBLE for them because not all of them have had training. this is ridiculous.
You nailed it!!!!
We should also think about how her asthma may be triggered, for me this would be impossible 1. My airways are restricted at different times of the year (leading me to take more medicine) 2. Sudden weather or temperature changes give my asthma attacks 3. As mentioned before sometimes my airways are tighter i have good and bad days, if i cant get a full breathe on land how underwater?? 4. Exercise particularly swimming is really hard on me - asthma is an allergic reaction, i get congestion, runny nose, cough and headaches when i push myself to far at the gym and i have to wait at least 20mins for symptoms to subside (not to mention other astjma symptoms - tightened esophagus, tight chest or stabbing in chest, weazing, coughing, legit restriction of breathe j can pass out) 4. if i panic whilst im struggling with my breathe my asthma is 10x worse... like imagine being in an uncomfortable environment
@@LorenDraws yes thats absolutely true!! While some people with asthma may be able to dive, it can be different from person to person, and in order to safely dive with asthma you would absolutely need a ton of training and a doctor that can confirm that you can do it safely. They absolutely should not have made her go under the water :(
This is why I’m sticking to snorkeling lol
Actually you can get a Padi in one day for pennies. Yes that still regulates your depth but tbf I've dived deeper free and I am not a strong swimmer, am a smoker and I really struggle swimming down but I've got pictures of myself deep so... 🤷♀️
I'm a rescue diver, and I tried underwater modelling once. I did it in a 5 m pool and it was HARD. You have to be able to control your bouyancy while posing. It's hard to be aware of your pose when you're trying not to float to the top. I'm not surprised if the girls tend to float to the top, especially if the don't have a weight belt on, and sea water tend to make you a lot more bouyant than pool water. Underwater modelling really takes a lot of nerve and concentration, as well as the ability to stay calm. It takes a lot of practice to do well :"
Also doesn't holding your breath make you more bouyant or is it the opposite?
I agree this concept is so beautiful and their poses are fluid and graceful being in the water especially with the flow with the fabric I love it so much
People with Asthma actually should not dive without training at all. Depending on how severe the asthma is it can get really dangerous to dive. Because of that a lot of places have diving restrictions for people with asthma. There are safe ways, but I doubt that ANTM had proper instructors and training for this where you also try ouot in safe spaces and not a photo shoot.
That's what i thought, without training it doesn't matter if other people can, because Sundai is not trained, it's not an excuse, it's being careful with her health
@@hildelisapaulin Comparing professional athletes with doctors constantly monitoring them to a girl with no experience and no medical professional present at all is just stupid.
Sundai had every right to take care of her health. She shouldn't even have been put into this situation in the first place.
Also add that anxiety is a very common trigger for asthma so being nervous about going in the water already puts them at a higher risk for having an attack in an unsafe situation
PADI diver here: Not even a certified diver should do this, and when they do there are special procedures for getting the regulator back. Without a BCD, the models cannot ascend in an emergency as is protocol, so this is in no means safe. Being closer to the surface does make it much safer, but the organizers clearly wanted the models to go deeper.
I was wondering so much about this! I figured they weren't going deep enough that the bends would be an issue, and I've never been diving but going off and on the regulator definitely felt instinctively problematic.
It's amazing what they can do with an actual good photo shoot concept, good direction, and well edited photos. This is the most interested I have been in any of the ANTM shoots I have seen. Imagine if they had given us an entire season with no gimmicks, no impossible challenges that just set the girls up to fail, just genuine fashion modelling. It would be great if they rebooted this show with a completely different non-toxic, body positive host and panel. Imagine that.
This is by far one of my favorite seasons and photoshoot idea. They were all beautiful. The shots blow me away... it would be so tough too.
The fact that Sundai was really hurt and she didn't say anything made me so sad.
I could not believe they eliminated her. Her photo was better of the two and I'd argue maybe Jennifer's. They really just told her "don't bring up your health concerns on a shoot".
@@SabrinaRina exactly. I totally agree too. Her photo was better.
did you read her comment on this video? 😔 her ear was literally bleeding from the challenge prior to the shoot.
@@thebitchescallmegump no, but I saw her do a live video with Oliver Twixt and Laura and Jenn and they talked about it. Such a shame she couldn't speak up. The way they treated these women is unreal.
Also
Yeah, maybe people with asthma can dive, but they have trained to do this
You can't just put a girl with asthma and say "well, others do that, so you can do that too"
People diving in water have to be trained and they need licenses.
Being someone with asthma, this shoot *infuriates* me! As an actor, I’ve also had my face injured on a short film shoot, so I take on-set safety precautions pretty seriously now. The fear of not being able to get enough air into your lungs is completely real and valid, especially when you physically are limited by asthma. I can’t believe they eliminated Sundai based on a health condition that she literally vocalized to them, and then continued to work through because she was pressured to. I hope she’s doing well and thriving because she deserves it!! ❤️
Jessica you made my day every time I watch these reaction videos. you're so kind, funny, smart, beautiful. so you! thanks!
Divers who have asthma specifically train to do well in the water. The fact that they used that to shame her is disgusting
Exactly! And where is the medical team just in case something happened!
@@KatNaturalBeauty Right tho!?
How bad asthma can be varies from person to person.
The fact they got rid of Sundai because of a medical condition she can’t control really boils my blood!!
As a asthma sufferer myself I know first hand that any difficulties in breathing can trigger an asthma and/or panic attack and having to be in that situation underwater could be fatal.
Shame on ANTM!! I preferred her photo to many others!! 💕
they always say "tell us your limit" and then when they do they get voted off
It is not a excuse, it is a medical condition and it varies in every person.
I have to write it on every single bit of medical paperwork. It is not something that is a choice.
Also all their comments are invalid about athletes and divers with asthma. They are trained throughout their profession. Sundai was not.
I love your videos. They seriously brighten my day 🙂
Your always so considerate of other and I think that is so sweet! I wish there were more people like you in the world!
Tyra, Jay and that Photographer deserve to get slapped so hard for the sheer audacity of downplaying a MEDICAL condition 😡
Two medical conditions
As a person with asthma, I hate how dismissive the photographer was. Having asthma is not just an excuse that she "pulling out" it's a serious health problem.
I'm already subscribed to Sundai! I love her so much. I was SO excited that she picked the house she did. ❤
Gryffindor?
I've been binging these reactions and the audacity in this show is unlimited
Wtf. This just seems extremely risky and dangerous for like no reason. It’s not like these women are being paid by a brand for this and these aren’t campaigns. I loath this show and as a teenager growing up I used to love it and low key be upset I was 5’1 and not y’all enough to be a model and audition. Now I’m just grateful I wasn’t.
I used to love this show too, even wanted to be a model on here! Till I found out years later that ANTM is actually trash towards the models...
In high school I had a friend who had asthma, she wasn't allowed to take any gym classes since it was so bad. Asthma was a completely valid reason to not go under too deep :/
And asthma isn't the same for everyone. Mine is very mild and is really only an issue with strenuous activity, my son on the other hand has very severe asthma. A respiratory infection puts him in the hospital half the time and if he coughs to hard he pukes. I'm able to handle a lot more even though we both have it. It's not a fair comparison to make
Oooh great video as always! And your makeup is 🔥🔥😍😍
I also have asthma, and have been told the whole " lots of people have asthma and can still do x". They forget the second part of that fact, which is that they train to do that, and have to concentrate (to various degrees) on working with their asthma. The two situations are different. Those divers dive with asthma, but they also train to be able to do that with asthma... smh
I remember when my husband and I first started dating we were in our early 20s and we got into this huge fight because he wanted me to go running with him and I said no because of my asthma and he said he followed this guy on RUclips who was a star athlete or something and had asthma so I was just using it as an excuse because I didn't want to go.
I ripped him about 17 new a$$holes about how there was a huge difference between a professional athlete training for months and probably having a first aid person on site and me putting on some shoes and sprinting around the neighborhood for an hour (especially since it was pollen season and really warm out) you will have to take me to the hospital.
Thankfully he's grown up a lot since then.
Tyra wasn’t lying Sundai is such an inspiration to girls, boys and animals!!!! She’s doing a lot better than being on that show!!! I’m glad she isn’t on that show anymore because they wasted her time and talents to fix their narrative instead of letting them express themselves because Sundai is amazing
Everybody’s asthma is different. Also, a lot of people who have asthma and become athletes or divers have to work their body’s up to do that. They don’t just jump right into it. They build up their bodies overtime to be able to handle more and more of whatever it is they are doing. I was in cheer and have asthma so I had to work hard everyday to build up my lung strength to handle the activities we would do. It didn’t just happen overnight, it took years.
Sundai is such a great girl!! All the girls from this season were awesome
I literally JUST had your videos recommended to me, and I LOVE YOUR CHANNEL!! By the way, as someone with asthma, and constent ear infections I know that neither are "excuses" . I can't swim too deep or my lungs feel like they are collapsing! I NEVER swim without earplugs! Ear problems can become deadly... Thank you for making these videos! Also subbed and notifications on!
How is asthma an “excuse” 💀 sis probably doesn’t have the lung capacity for this mess!!
"Many divers have asthma" Yeah professional divers, Tyra and her usual non sense ahah
There is a documentary somewhere here on RUclips, that the models who do these types of underwater shoots are called mermaid models. The documentary goes into how they are first highly trained divers that can hold their breath for about 5 minutes. They also know how to sink safely. It's a great documentary, I wish I could find it again.
Okay but Jess you’re killing it with your hair and makeup 😍🤍
Once again I say, this show cared more teaching girls they can’t have agency or bodily autonomy if they wanna “make it” while humiliating them than they did about actually teaching them to model.
👏👏👏
I have asthma, I do sports, AFTER years of training and figuring out how to not suffocate myself
Yea it takes alot to get your body regulated to that and time
This is definitely a challenge where they needed to have them practice in a pool first in order to feel comfortable.
You always look so pretty 😍 you're looking extra amazing today! 💕
I am IN LOVE with all these models. They're all GODDESSES.
The things that they made models do on the show were INSANE....like wtf?!?!?!
You were right on the money with your interpretation of Erin. Erin was massively sabotaged that season. She was one of the top contenders and delivered stunning photos week after week, but during the second half of the season the judges did everything they could to break her down and get inside her head constantly telling her she was underperforming and falling behind even in weeks she did do well. They made her doubt herself in a way that left her completely insecure and emotionally compromised. All to create this "fall from grace" narrative for reality tv. Erin went on to have the most successful post-show career of any girl of her cycle though, with a long-lasting international career in Mexico, signed by agencies in NYC, booking magazines like Vogue and Marie Claire and still working to this very day, so I guess she won in the end, which is awesome for her!
Love to see it!
Good for her! I hate the manipulative tactics they used.
This makes me love underwater photos too😻 I want to do itttt
love the colours in your background!
Oh I would love to see Ms. Tyra demonstrate how to pose in the ocean but I know that she wouldn't because she likes to make challenges difficult that she can't do!
Would love the satisfaction of telling her, "many people hold their breath for 3 minutes plus+, you just have to tell yourself that you can".
ESPECIALLY WITH ASTHMA AND AN INJURED EAR
"I'm sure they wouldn't do this if it wasn't completely safe"
Tyra: "That's what you think."
I literally can’t stop watching these videos
OMG JESSICA!! U LOOK BEAUTIFULLL!!!
