Awesome video thank you. My wife just asked me to make her a book binding press and I guessed someone would have made one using a hydraulic jack. Awesome to see how you beautifully crafted the project.
I found your channel through your apartment Reno videos so this is my first time seeing you with long hair, you look so different! Love this tutorial it's exactly what I was looking for. Thank you for posting it.
This book press and stamp project is absolutely brilliant, Cristiana! I love the meticulous, creative effort that you put into growing your gifts. I have been a subscriber since the cactus planter a couple years ago and find your videos equally relaxing and intoxicating. There are not many opportunities to watch artists in their home environments, yet even then, everything in your home is your handmade work of art that we have seen you produce. Thanks so much for kindly sharing part of your life and adventure. : )
One suggestion if you don't mind. When you heat a metal (any) to change shape and then leave to cool down naturally it becomes soft. Try to cool down fast by water so it stays hard. You need this parts to hold some weight so I suggest to cool it down with water or oil.
The top of the jack has a post that unscrews and makes the jack piston taller. That way you don’t have to pump it as much to bring the platen down. I learned this the hard way last week when I was replacing some floor joists and using the jack the hard way. Thanks for sharing, your videos are always cool and informative.
Get Hands Dirty less pumping the handle is the benefit. I think it would keep the springs under tension more when you’re not pressing. I’m going to copy your design about two weeks from now. I’ll send you a message about what I find.
That was wonderful to watch. I'm currently making embossing folders that are up to 30x40 cm wide. That is pretty big and up to now I haven't had completely satisfactory results in a roll press, a laundry wringer, a book press or an A3 embosser. But I have a theory that if I make sturdy wooden frames held tightly together with screws and hinges that I will be able to feed the structure through one of the rolling presses. I now want to make a hydraulic press... but it does look very hard and you'd actually have to put an enormous amount of pressure on A3 size embossing plates. But it's a great design and I want one!
I remember a version of this idea in an old issue of Readymade magazine. That one I believe had 2x4s for the uprights but the angle iron is so much better and sturdier! I love your version and as always, great content!
That is one cool press....so many things you can do with it. The colors for the books is great, gray with that orange? I think its orange. And a early congrats on 300k cause you are almost there...have a great week
If you can find copper plate; that will carve easier than brass and copper will hold the fine serifs just fine. In the printing industry we make copper plates for letterpress and emboss work and if we need a plate to stand up to 200,000 impressions we go with brass and if we need a plate for unlimited use we go with brass with a chrome plating. I worked with encyclopedia printing early in my career and a set of foil-embossing dies came in that were brass with chrome plating; they were a thing of beauty. As a child we had two platen presses for printing 1/C (one color) cards and letter heads and stationery. You should go to an engraver house in Porto and ask where you can find an embosser company. Go to that company and get a butt role of silver or gold stamping foil or if not just some sheets of the stuff and then you can put that foil over the emboss area and dress up the image. Run paper or cover stock that is a little on the thick side for good impression. Some presses had a heated die bed that would release the foil better.
Wow! I developed a method to make embossing folders to press in any standard press...but my enthusiasm for pressing paper like this came from a little metal embossing press I had made with my name on it years ago. Seeing you going through the inventing process designing a similar machine, i.e. a push press, was just amazing for me. So the little die has to be a little bit larger? How much larger? I'm only asking this because what I do to make embossing folders... and I've made hundreds of them, is to engrave into a relatively soft surface and then make a mould of that surface... and then a mould of the mould. I make these two surfaces afterwards into the embossing folder which you can run through a machine. Thanks so much!
Good work ! One day I will start to build my hydraulic press, I have the materials already... For about 10 years ! Hehehe ! I saw a Dexter clamp bended in the wider side ? Whaaat ? How can be that ? I'm very "brute" forcing that clamps and never happened to me... You can't beat me ! I'll try harder ! Hehehe ! Cheers !
Great work. Just a tip from an American viewer: I know you didn't mean it this way, but your support is "pretty much appreciated" implies that it's only sort-of appreciated. You want to say, "very much appreciated." Just trying to help, not be an internet douche.
Great video Cris! Pretty notebooks! The press would be also pretty good to glue up recycled skateboards, to make some toys out of it :D Maybe I should make one haha!
Hi, I really enjoy your channel, and love the finished projects that you make. I have one suggestion to make your work easier. When drilling through steel, your bits will last much longer if you use a cutting fluid. Good drill bits can be expensive. It's worth protecting them. Thanks for posting, and keep up the great work. Take care...
4:06 Don't apologize for your hair. It is an inspiration to us all.
Awesome video thank you. My wife just asked me to make her a book binding press and I guessed someone would have made one using a hydraulic jack. Awesome to see how you beautifully crafted the project.

I like listening to Cristiana's voice so much I didn't even skip through the SquareSpace pitch. 🙂
Ahahah thanks :D
"One of my 3d carving machines", Im glad you have so many

Awesome project Cris! The notebooks look just too nice to be used!!!
Ollari's Thanks Ollari! :) See you in a couple days 😁😁😁
4:06 Don't you ever apologize for that magnificent mane again. Very cool project! That press would probably great for embossing leather, too.
One suggestion if you don't mind. When you heat a metal (any) to change shape and then leave to cool down naturally it becomes soft. Try to cool down fast by water so it stays hard. You need this parts to hold some weight so I suggest to cool it down with water or oil.
Thanks Cristina, that's given me an idea for an old car jack.
The intro is on another Level!
I love how quiet your drill press is!

Yes, I know it does, but wouldn't it be the same? I mean the amount of spring release would be the same right? Thanks!

I like how both have their own type of press ;) Beautiful work to the both of you
Get Hands Dirty . Hola soy de peru y tus trabajos que haces son increibles te felicito..tienes un buen talento.

We don't deserve youtubers like you

YT stopped showing me your new videos for 4 months or so. Had to actively come here.
Fascinating girl. She reminds me of Segourney Waver (Alien 1,2,3). I'd fly to the end of the galaxy with this lady without any fear. :-)
Your workshop is amazing

You’re very clever and skilled 🙏👏
WOOT! Received my booklet today...YAY!
Lady! I just found you and honestly, I’m in love. I’m subscribed. Now to buy some of your stuff

This is a perfect job. Congratulations.
Cool looking press! this is so detailed and looks like it takes a while to build! thanks for the video!
That was mesmerizing, and I greatly admire your craftsmanship. Fantastic job!
Wish i had a workshop like this.
I just odered a handmade notebook. Love your work
Thank you!!

Great video! Just purchased two notebooks (and some stickers). See you at Makers Central!
You really should meet Martin from Wintergatan. He has the same video style and work attitude as you. You both do awesome work!
OMG!!! You deserve all youtube viewers.
Nice job may I suggest you look at rusteloum hammered black, green copper silver gives it a hammered texture and wear well
Great video Cristiana
Those books are awesome! I love the embossing jig, really gives a nice look to those books. Very cool project!

Fico encantado com a qualidade do seu trabalho, a limpeza da bancada e o capricho com o acabamento.
Я в захваті. Рідко дивлюсь від початку і до кінця. Тут, напевно, є якась магія. Дуже гарно.

Great build video, y'all are talented makers!

Very nice ideas! Hello from Siberia Vv
Very nice. Would’ve loved to buy the small one but sold out quickly. Good for you!
You can get a 'center punch set' to mark the holes before drilling much easier and more accurate so you don't have to use a pen and spring punch.
Great idea. Bonus book making was nice too.
Cristina, seu trabalho é simplesmente fantástico! Adoro seus videos.
doing the lords work over here.
You got some serious skills!
Excellent Project!
Another great build ... and terrific instructions
Thanks a lot Spencer!
Senza parole Cristiana! Bravissima
Really enjoyed this video. The only criticism I've got is that the subtitles often obscured the action because of its position.
Great work. Just a tip from an American viewer: I know you didn't mean it this way, but your support is "pretty much appreciated" implies that it's only sort-of appreciated. You want to say, "very much appreciated." Just trying to help, not be an internet douche.
Well done! I am always inspired (but exhausted) after watching your projects...
So glad to see you around here! Exhausted? Are they too long in your opinion?
Not at all...I just mean the amount of precision and effort that goes into your projects. Your videos are perfect..
Oh wow, I was thinking they were a bit boring or something for being long...thank you!!!
I actually like that you see each step ,without the video going from a pile of lumber;to a completed project though.
Week after week a great video... You're killing it! Can't wait for the music during the bookbinding to turn up on your SoundCloud.
Thank you!! It is on soundcloud. It's called "New song" (yes, very original title!) just don't have the full gamelan intro as in the video.
WHAT A WONDERFUL GİRL! AND VERY BEAUTIFUL...
I'm a carpenter and bookbinder too. In the end we all come to the same style solution making a press.
Amazing Idea
You inspire me to make my new video on saturday))
Beautiful work as always, Cris!
Boom! Great video. Thanks for sharing.
Nice project Christiana! Thanks for sharing the video with us.😎👍JP
New to the channel really cool looks like I'm sticking around
Boom! This is so slick :)
Jep...super idea. Well made Cris
Great project. I had to order one of these small notebooks. They look so nice!
Great Project! Ho much tension is on the springs? Ild be afraid of the top ringbolts could break because of the leverage 🤔
Increíble este video!! Amé este proyecto y las libretas!! Hermoso!!
Very nice work....... thank you..
That's very impressive and professional looking. Couldn't you have made a jig to do it in the bench vice?
Wow, awesome work, girl! Really nice press! 😀
Beautiful work as always.
Great video Cris! Pretty notebooks! The press would be also pretty good to glue up recycled skateboards, to make some toys out of it :D Maybe I should make one haha!
Woman you are amazing!
Corian material is also good for miter slot runners instead of wood.
Never apologize for your hair. Have fun smashing things. The books came out great.
Great video and a cool project. My only criticism is that the captions on the screen block a good portion of what you're doing. Thanks.
i love your video lightning
Que bacana!! Ficou perfeito!
So nice!! I liked this video very much!!
Very cool ideo and those notebooks look awesome!
Often got your 6:39 face when i drill too xD
And obrigado for the video, it's Really cool, i love notebooks !
Hi! I love your jobs, they're so amazing. Do you speak Portuguese too?
I absolutely love the notebooks. Out of curiosity, would you ever consider making one with lined paper for us engineers?

portugal é lindo! abraços do brasil!
Ordered mine as soon as the video ended
Thanks for you support!
4:55 use machine oil. It will make everything easier.
Amazing project, well done!!
Great projects !!!
Awesome project Chris! And what a great result! Also YEAH for the Carlos hint, love that guy! :D
Bom trabalho Cristiana.👌👌
Those notebooks! 👌🏽
Muitos parabéns pelo projecto e pelo vídeo.
So all that incredible work and the notebooks are so cheap?!? Order placed and thank you for your awesome videos!
Ahah, It's always weird to give handmade things a price...
