- In this video, we're going to convert a sublimation Epson WF7720 printer to chipless firmware to fix all of the annoying issues, such as "ink cartridges not recognized". This is a much needed fix for a sublimation printer. #chiplessfirmware #sublimationprinter #epsonsublimation

What is Chipless firmware?
Chipless firmware uses custom instructions to overwrite the default instructions. This allows you to bypass the Epson chip system and forces your printer to always recognize the cartridges as full!
Why would I want to go chipless?
1. So more random cartridge errors
2. No more wasted paper
3. Printer always shows FULL ink!
4. Easy to install (Takes less than 5 minutes)
How do I go chipless?
1. Turn Printer Off
2. Hook up USB Cable
3. To enter Program Update Mode, Press and hold 4+7+Job/Status+Power
4. Start firmware application on PC
5. Start Update. Power will blink during process
6. Once complete, all lights will blink
7. Press 0 to exit Program Update Mode
8. Turn Printer On
9. Open Firmware Activation on PC
10. Select Printer, Activate Online
11. Save Recovery Code
12. Turn Printer Off
13. NEVER Update or you will need to run this all again
14. Enjoy Your Chipless Printer

Great Video. Only one issue, I would have made a part 6 step showing to turn off updates before your final thoughts. I'm sure many will forget to do that or wont know to do it.

Printer worked fine for over a year. Suddenly the other day it wasn't recognizing the yellow cartridge. I even bought a new one. Found this video. Started the process, now a message pops up on the screen, Epson device recovery mode. Lovely. I have no idea how to get out of recovery mode

When loading up the inkchip activation no device is being found, the printer is connected and the firmware successfully updated the printer but the activation process is not working, is there any way to fix this?

His I was able to download everything and install but when the printer came on it still gave me a cannot recognize ink error and my activation code says wrong code can you help with this
Thank you for the tutorial. I have a few questions if that’s ok. 1- the sublimation ink doesn’t have to be same brand or from same firmware software company right? And if their firmware is compatible with Mac 🖥 every video I’ve found so far is using another pc and with windows program. Thanks
As far as I know, it doesn't work with a Mac. Sublimation ink from any brand can be used.

So you have to buy an activation key code correct? Also mine is not getting to 100% and i have a usb line and a network line that downloads and neither one of one is getting to 100%

Most of the cartridges come from the same place. I recommend the sublimation ink + cartridge kit from Cosmos Ink.

My printer says Rom is not Writable. Ive even tried to reset back to Epson software. Please help. Stuck in Rocovery mode ROM IS NOT WRITABLE! WF-7720
oh my god.. I need help. went as far as pushing 4-7-job status and power button. Then we got company. My printer shut off and now will not come back on. I keep getting an error code and says to turn off and back on, thats all it will do. Says to Epson if this continues.How can I get my menu back
What if you update epson software by accident? Will reinstalling chipless reverse the missing lines when I updated the epson firmware?
If you updated firmware, you would likely need to reinstall the chipless firmware.
I desperately need help .everything was going smoothly until i started the install. It acted like it finished as you said blinking lights and all. But mine says Epson device rom program update mode rom is not writable. I tried to activate anyway and it said Epson device recovery mode. I’m so frustrated. It is not converted yet. Bought brand new Epson brand name ink at Office Depot. It worked fine for about 15 prints then started showing out of ink and so I wound up here trying to fix it. Help please!
I have a question do you know anything about the print heads I have a 7720 and it prints and everything but the nozzle check shows missing lines now I have done head cleaning I’ve done the paper towel trick I’ve even hit it with head cleaner to unblock clogs and nothing is working so I was wondering if you have any insight on what could be causing my nozzle checks to be missing like 2 lines out of each color like I’ve said I’ve done everything you could possibly do to full head clean and get rid of head clogs and I always get the same results again

Can you help with a Mac desktop? I've tried your way and others and Mac isn't letting me do the exe file.
MAC is not supported with inkchip prgramms, just Windows OS

I'm confused when you say put in serial # of printer. My serial # on side of my wf7720 doesnt look anything like yours. I dont have dashes in between mine & it says error when I put it into the bar. Where do I purchase activation code. It never asked me for anything to purchase.

@@tamiculver8236 I got it figured out. You dont put in serial # of your printer in that bar, you put in the activation code they give you once you purchase it from there site where you got the firmware software from. They will email you the code.
How do you know if you are running out of ink if it always shows full?
You keep an extra set on hand and when the prints stop working you check/replace the cartridges.

No, it isn't available that I'm aware of.
So the sublimation ink is already installed in the printer before you do this? My issue is the printer won’t read my sublimation ink. I never installed the epson original ink. Do you think this will help resolve my issue?
That sounds like an issue with the cartridges. Have you tried removing and reseating them?
@@SouthpawsStudio I will try to start over. I installed the ink and cartridges from cosmos ink. I will try that then try what I learned watching your video. It just won’t recognize them . Nobody else has this darn issue😂😂😂😂. I definitely don’t want to buy a new printer.

No, there likely will never be one for the 7820/7840 because of the complexity.

No, to my knowledge, a chipless firmware doesn't exist for it.

If it shows full ink then how will you know when to replace it?
For those of us using refillable cartridges, the ink indicators don't really work anyway (with chips) because the printer doesn't know when you refill it.

Yep its actually easy but my printer blinked never said ready. Activation code can not be recognized or invalid. Gee and no-one will contact me.

There's no Chipless Firmware available for it. There probably never will be, if I had to guess.
I wish you had a paper jam error for wf7720 ive looked for 36 hrs for a paper jam for there to be no piece of paper jamming anything. Please help me before i lose my whole business because of a fale paper jam please

EPSON SUCKS. I have 2 Epson and they will now not accept INK. "Ink cartridge not recognized" Emptied out reset, turned off and back on replaced cartridges still the same old thing. WF-7820. On the other hand I have 3 Canon and 2 HP printers that work flawlessly. Personal feeling EPSON SUCKS.
