Thank you for the detailed review. I'm surprised that the MPP-based surface pen works on the wacom aes digitizer of the lenovo tablet. Can you check whether the lenovo pen works on the surface devices?
A little late, but to explain a few things for people who might come across this video, - This older "Surface Pen" is MPP 2.0 Tilt only. So this means Lenovo Tab P11 Pro is using MPP 2.0 digitizer - Lenovo "Precision Pen 2" has 3 protocols - MPP 2.0 Tilt, AES 2.0 Tilt, and Wacom WGP - New 2021 "Surface Slim Pen 2" is MPP 3.0, which is backwards compatible with MPP 2.0 devices - Wacom AES versions are NOT backwards compatible with each other, but some styluses support multiple versions of AES - Digitizers of MPP 2.0, AES 2.0 and USI all support Tilt, BUT their styluses are Tilt OPTIONAL, so make sure the pen specifically mentions "Tilt Support" if you need this feature - Stylus performance order goes: APP (Apple) = EMR (Samsung/Wacom) > MPP 3.0 (Microsoft) > MPP 2.0 = AES 2.0 (Wacom) > HPP (Huawei) > USI (Chromebook) > MPP 1.5 > AES 1.0 > MPP 1.0 - MPP digitizer is used on windows devices from Microsoft/HP consumer/Asus/MSI, and few android devices like Lenovo, Xiaomi, etc - Wacom AES digitizer is used on windows devices from Lenovo/HP business/Dell/Acer - Wacom EMR digitizer is used on Samsung android tablets, and windows devices from Samsung Galaxy/Acer Ezel series
I agree that I would like to see the Lenovo pen used on a Surface Pro. I have 3 surface devices and 2 surface pens. I bought an alldocube 30 android tablet because it also could use the same stylus. The tablet broke very quickly. I trust Lenovo might last longer.
Thank you for this because I had to actually get a new laptop because my surface broke but I don't want to replace the pen because it's super good. The only thing I hate about the patent is I don't think it has tilt sensitivity but in all honesty I don't really need that too much
Good video, thanks for that. Weird question, though: did the Surface Pen work out of the box? I've got a M10 Plus (3rd gen.), which in theory should use the same three pen protocols than the P11 pro, at least according to the spec sheets, but the Surface pen won't be recognized. I saw in Settings/Pen, that the Lenovo Pen should be touched to the screen and button pressed, which might be Lenovo-specific, to activate the digitizer for the first time? Or is the M10 plus entirely incompatible for some obscure reason?
@@teohontech7141 Thanks very much for the quick answer! Is AES (only) certain? After more searching, I just found a reddit thread claiming it's WGP. Yeah, I think I may have read the spec sheet wrong. It says WGP, AES and MPP, but this apparently refers to the pen itself as listed under pen input, not the tablet as such... I must have assumed the P11 and M10 should be close enough, so your video using the Surface pen gave me hope. Well, that's too bad: I now have pens from various devices lying around with Wacom EMR, with MPP, and whatever obscure protocol Chuwi used a few years back... nothing works with the M10+ and I'd rather return the tablet than spend more money on yet another pen.
