      Yes she takes you to God with this song, as she' s singing, she is with God, and present but not present, that song is amazing, after I discovered it. I play it often, and close my eyes, and talk to God with that song. Simply, amazing, theirs no other, like her. EVER.

    She had so many vocal tools at her disposal. And she knew when to use them. That is a gift and a talent.

    My absolute favourite singer of all time, and as I always say, the most gifted and talented singer who not only ever lived , but who will ever live!! The thing about this legendary singer is that during the period of her prime, she kept raising the bar in terms of vocal prowess! This is an excellent case in point, as here she is in trade mark fashion, executing an incredible performance almost acapella style -just a pianist/organ and church choir- with her powerful yet soothing vocals soaring like an eagle, and filling the church Hall with her unique brand of artistic expression! All of her special attributes with which she was divinely blessed were on display here - one of a kind tone, raw power, range, transitions between head and chest voice, vibrato, melisma, immaculate control, literally tons of self- confidence( there is nothing she could not do vocally) and emotional energy. Indeed, the foregoing list of attributes is not exhaustive, as there are others such as her resonance, sincerity, not to mention that all of these exceptional attributes were delivered in the context of awe-inspiring grace, elegance and obvious conviction. In addition, I must emphasize as evidenced in this performance, how effortlessly and seamlessly she transitions between head and chest voice and between smooth, soulful sailing to open throat belting!! When all of the above is taken into account, the result is vocal perfection and a singer with the complete package, in the person of Whitney Elizabeth Houston! Of course, because of her vocal prowess and versatility, we tend to overlook the fact that she was stunningly beautiful!!
    I can only describe this performance as not even divine, but Godly, as it seemed to me that God was singing through her mortal being!
    I have said it many a time, but I will say it again - it is not unusual for me to break down emotionally at times when I look at her videos or even hear her songs. And this is not only because she was untouchable vocally in her prime, but also because she was a sincere, humble, decent and selfless human being, who gave so much of her self and in return, expected/ demanded very little ( she just wanted to be left alone by the media and other detractors).
    The last thing I would say about this performance is that the vocal skills Whitney demonstrated cannot be learned- they are natural and inherent!! I know that your music and you as a decent, selfless human being will always be s part of my existence! I will always love you, and you ought to know that I never had so much pride in a singer, as I have in you. You, as well the message you communicated in your music are believable - another defining and unique feature of your legacy.
    R.I.P. Whitney

    It's funny, I never paid attention before, but you can hear Aretha's influence in Whitney's voice here ALOT. But Whitney took that and went into the hemisphere with it! TRULY one of a kind talent.

    The conviction you referenced was enabled by the fact that many in the singing circles at that time were arguably upset with Cissy for pushing her and giving her spotlight. They rumored that it was just because it was her daughter. This performance encapsulate all that energy in what some would say prove that she really got the pipes.

I'm being very honest when i say this. But the Only thing i ever heard that was so convicting and commanding other than her voice is Thunder..When you hear both, you know to shut up, and give it the respect it demands

    Didnt Whitney sing this performance before 1987. I thought this was done in 1985 or 1986 before the release of her 1987 'Whitney' album? I need to research to find out what year she actually did this "A Quiet Place" (Live) performance.

    • @jobuck879
      @jobuck879 4 года назад +1

      Pierre D It’s a lot of confusion on the year. The clip of the video is from a 1987 special called Superstars and their Moms. I’ve only found one other place that states the performance was back in 1985, however everyone seems to think it was indeed 1987. Either way it’s a phenomenal showcase of her talent.
