Being a man I can do a lot with my voice that many men can't do, and it's because this special lady I studied her like she was a subject in school for 25 years. I was always a die-hard Whitney fan, I have watched this video, and every other one that's been made about her, since my space on RUclips came out, or like on the movie, when they show certain performances, I can take people write to them, like the last Melody that she did in 94, when Reba McEntire and Will Smith introduced her, she says I love you and she sung I love you porgy, and I am telling you I'm not going, then I have nothing, like I know them all, one of my favorites is when she sang lover boy, and all the men I need together, she murdered it, and her mother really was so proud of her, she just always wanted her to do the right thing, as far as getting clean and that sort of thing, but I know the temptations once you've already tried them, because people will beg you down there to try something, and then once you're hooked, they will walk over you, when you're dead in withdrawal, nobody in their right mind is going to go through that, if they have the money to get well, I know what it's like to work with a drug habit, I show up to work over to all my work sober, and then I go home and don't come out of my room full of work, I know it all too well, but what I also know is that only God can judge me, and no matter what she was human, and her mother was always always proud of her, and damn it so was I.
My God....Her voice is smooth, velvety & sweet like honey, but hits you like getting hit by Thor's hammer...The power, control, vibrato, diction & vocal ease shows you why Whitney couldn't be touched by ANYONE...The best ever...Whitney *"The Vocal Tsunami"* Houston
Man you, said it, I said the same thing. When she sings, this song, she will take you to God with her,. Close your eyes, and just climb to heaven with that voice, it was unreal. I loved Whitney, one of my favorites, RIP, I have a feeling , Whitney was tired, all that power, in such a small frame, over all those years, seem like would have worn, anyone out, that was human. She gave her life and her beautiful voice, to the public, which was a great sacrifice, and all they ever bring up is a drug habit. I don't believe , she killed herself, or overdosed. The lady, that was a friend when to get her cupcakes,. She said I only was gone 30 min, Water running all over, and why, would she be face down. Something wasn't right abt, none of that, and they saw , Ray J, running down the hall, from her room, he used to be her runner. Then she gave a note to his sister Brandy the day she died. Something was on that note, cause Brandy, looked at her real funny. They all were sitting their her and Clive and Monica, like they had been talking abt her. Brandy, wouldn't tell anyone, what was on that note. Clive I wouldn't be surprised if he knew. Why would you still have a party, after one of the Best Artist, he ever had is deceased upstairs. CRAZY. Anyway Bobbi Kris, in tub, too, God knows what happen even if they sugar coat it to us. RIP Whitney, God will take care of you.
Whitney literally had everything that a singer was supposed to have in their voice. Technique, diction, resonance, vibrato, interpretation and most importantly EMOTION. You could feel it, more than a technical singer but heartfelt as well. All God❤️
FACT! She simply had it all! I still say she’s the greatest in history, above Aretha. Aretha could sing any style, but, her voice simply wasn’t as beautiful. Whitney truly was blessed all around. Cissy said she taught Whitney to sing from her heart, and you can see and hear that right here.
@QueenNippyFann She did, if you are a daughter of God and you are a singer in his church and you go to the world, that means you left God, and God will abandon than you
Angel Johnson Whitney reigned way before Mariah, and still holds her recorded as a voice prodigy, the gold standard for female vocalist. Whitney is the voice.
Facts!!! I’m so tired of folks saying she’s an alto and mezzo smh !! Whitney’s Natural Voice was A Soprano as her Great mother was one as well . That’s how she was trained . As you can see her flawless technique in her Head voice . Even and Full!
iLLustR8 She was a mezzo-soprano by voice type. Lack of musical understanding prompts you to take issue with that. Now, in a choral setting yes, I'm sure a choir director would assign her to the soprano section, but please understand the difference between voice type and choir parts.
Ever since she died, I find myself looking for live videos like this at least 3 to 4 times a month. I can’t seem to shake the sadness of her being gone. For those who grew up in the 80’s, she was a part of our childhood.
That is so true. Like you I grew up in the 80's and she was everything with her emotional voice. It was like heaven to hear her on the radio and like you I thrall the net to find more of her live performances. A truly great has left us.
I must say that there is something about Whitney's voice that makes me almost cry. It's so beautiful. If a voice like this ever comes around again the world would be a better place
@@wadner8119 I love him Campbell, but it's voice didn't sound even in a million years of Whitney Houston. His voice is light, lilty, soulful, but doesn't have the same level of control, Tambor, power, depth of resonance is Whitney Houston there's just too many things to name off for Tevin Campbell isn't even in the same element as a Whitney Houston. But I still love me some Campbell!
**Correction: KeKe Wyatt could absolutely "touch" this performance. ---->>>> . . . Not in the way Whitney Houston "touches it." Two different anointings. But could still touch it.
When Whitney sang gospel, her anointing was on full display. God yielded His spirit through her, His glory resonated and He truly resided in her heart. This single performance was not about show boating or bragging, this was her singing to an audience of one. She was truly anointed to sing the gospel. She was trying to get back to that place. This is where she felt the most comfortable, and her peace was found in songs such as these.
I remember her singing this song when she was a teenager at New Hope. I was younger, but I knew there was something different when she sang. I now know it was the anointing of the Lord.
@@Truth_Seeker96 yes! I was in the Inspirational Choir at New Hope Baptist Church. Her aunt directed that choir. I heard Whitey sing this song several times. It brought tears to my eyes each time. The words, the meaning behind them, and her voice -- all beautiful.
I envy you so much!!! I lived in south Jersey...I am just a couple years younger than she was...so I grew up listening to her records from the beginning...but regretfully...I never saw her perform in person...but for sure...I know she's with the Lord, now.
One of Nippy's most technically accomplished performances. Every note is properly placed; every word properly enunciated. Her upper belts here remind you that even though other singers have similar, or even wider, ranges, their belts can never approximate the sheer silk and steel beauty of Whitney's. Add to these the sheer inspiration and fervor with which she sings the song and you've got yourself a performance that will withstand the test of time. Here is The Voice, folks, and nothing but.
Thank you for wonderfully describing the beauty of Whitney's vocal delivery in this particular performance. Mulling over it, I would say that she was able to give this level of tonal bravado and emotive weight because of her rock solid foundation in gospel and soul. It's truly a marvel, though, when we consider that many gospel singers never had the technical prowess and pitch precision of Whitney Houston. She offered a stunning combination of high technicality and legitimate soul, which made her no less than the Greatest Voice of All.
@@navyforeveryoungjean-phili5940 Both gifted singers. As Whitney once said: "Mariah is a hell of a singer" after working with her. Whitney had an incredibly unique gift and it should be appreciated in its own right. We don't need to pit people against one another or make comparisons. Whitney was one of a kind.
She is the most anointed, talented, effortless singer we will ever have the pleasure to hear in our lifetime. No other compares. I miss her soooooo much. RIP Whitney...your gave us a lot. Thank you.
actually, her live 1986 rendition of "I am changing" is THE greatest live performance not only be her, but by any singer who's ever lived. it's here on youtube.
R3DH4WT we all have our preferences right lol. to me, her performance of "I am changing" is just so epic. she sounds like a lone warrior using her voice as a weapon to destroy everything around her. the band playing, and the epic drumming adds to it. but yes this performance here is also brilliant, more of a hymn. very subdued, yet powerful and soul stirring. what a brilliant vocalist she was in her prime.
I really have no words. A gift from God. I needed to hear this and just be still and know that He is God. So much bad news...but in quietness is my strength. Blessings to all.
+Derek Jones What is a gift of God? It is this voice! Therefore, there is no one to compare! I am seen in a video on RUclips right here, in an interview with Whitney for Rosie O'Donnell, who as a baby she had torn the roof of the mouth by a hook and that the doctors told her mother that maybe she could never speak. Well, she can speak, the better she can still sing and sing like no one else! Whitney's voice was a little miracle, a taste of what heaven reservation!
A vocal genius. This is my favorite performance by Miss Houston. She had everything I could ask for in a singer... The tone, agility, power, control, soul etc... Just perfect. She'll always be the greatest singer of all time to me. RIP
I literally shake when I hear her sing sometimes. i swear her voice has medicine in it cause I listen to her and I instantly feel better or I feel like I wanna start worshiping the Lord🙌🏽🙏🏽😩she's one of the few who can bring me to tears😭💯❤️❤️#TheVOICE
I'm crying so hard. When I hear Whitney sing especially at her prime, I hear God through her. She was and still is "The Voice" and the cherub of the lord. People may have their own opinions about her but I don't care, there will never be a voice like hers ever again. Love and rest in power Nippy 😭💔💖
She was the Best Singer in the world voice anointed anointed by God🙏🔥🔥🔥 she is truly missed there is not another voice that can compete now in the past in the future her voice and her was ordained by God for the time that she was here there will never be another Whitney Houston Rest In Peace🙏🔥🔥🔥♥️
Her voice was and is a miracle. Once in a generation? More like once in a century. Whenever I want to cut through all the nonsense regarding her life and demise, I play this video. She was the perfect singer. She had Aretha's soul married with operatic projection and grandeur. It doesn't get any better. I'll miss her forever.
This is almost unreal to the ears. If anyone ever questions why she is considered THE VOICE, you send them this lil video right here. The gift is UNDENIABLE.
Her voice was literally like something out of the woods; a phenomenon you maybe experience once if you’re very lucky. She’s in prime form here and the singing is simply unbelievable!
I keep, coming back to this video and each time I get a great feeling of ,Whitney is still here. I feel like,I am right there or she is next to me. She is The Greatest, God loaned Whitney to us,but she will forever be here. To GOD BE THE GLORY!! Peace to the family, and the world, as we remember the entire Houston Family. 9-3-2023
NO VOICE WILL EVER REPLACE WHITNEY AND SHE CONTINUES TO LIVE,IN OUR HEARTS THROUGH HER LEGACY OF THE GIFT GOD GAVE HER. HE LOANED WHITNEY TO US,SO WE WOULD KNOW AND FEEL HIS PRESENCE. LONG AFTER, WHITNEY GRACED THIS EARTH. GONE TOO SONG,BUT FOREVER REMEMBERED.
Whitney's voice is naturally beautiful. Her tone, pitch, clarity, and richness! You can tell she sings gospel with more feeling and power than she does with her own songs. And that's because when the spirit takes over, your no longer yourself. Your in a heavenly world doing what GOD is commanding you to do! and the spirit is definitely standing out in this performance. Her VOICE will forever live on and she will always be the best female singer of all time! There's only one... and she sang and went on home with the Father! #AMEN
I can listen to this song over, and over, and over again, and love it more each time! What amazes me is not just the pure perfection of her voice and the ease with which she sings, but her story-telling abilities! All these difference expressions/emotions she’s putting into this performance are simply brilliant; the arrangement alone is out of this world!
Will you listen at that piano & organ accompanying the most Divine vocal ever. Giving just enough. Not too much. Accompaniment is an ART all by itself. There's nothing like Gospel music. #Sublime
her vibrato is THE BEST of any singer in the world and this song really showcases it perfectly!, love you so much Whitney!, like Tina Turner's song You're simply the best better then all the rest!♡♡
When someone says that Mariah is more great Singer than Whitney, I'll make listening to the world this live Whitney's performance... And then there's no needing other words to say... Far out !!!!! That is singing at it's best. i loooooove this....Whitney had that special voice that moved you into that bliss of a true vocalist....and lifted you to a place that only a true singer could. Hands down she is the voice to me..what a powerful gift she was given...and how lucky i was to hear such a amazing voice. I have nothing but love and respect for this woman. What a voice what a beauty and what a legend.
Greatest Singer of All time!!!!!!!!! She’s the reason why I sing as good as I do now. The blueprint to perfect technique Love you Whitney & May you Rest In Peace 🕊
And to all haters who claim she was high on drugs every time she performed because of her heavy sweating. This video is proof. She sweated because she was an 'Aerobic singer' and gave it all. Drugs had nothing to do with it.
stalitzz I don’t think people should be speculating if she’s on drugs, that’s uncalled for and mean. But to flat out say she’s not on drugs because it’s the 80’s is just wishful thinking. She was doing drugs for a long time, even in the 80’s. But yes it could’ve been the lights, we don’t know.
the high notes!! ive been practicing not even close. she is truly anointed. and how proud Sissy is so proud of her daughter in this moment!! this is the look we all want our moms to give us. but so few of us have received them. i recieved a similar look from my mom when i recieved my first college degree. it is indescribable. she was sooooo proud. didnt say anything just gave me "the look"; and that said it all.
A naturally beautiful voice with elements of operatic resonance!! A rich mezzo soprano! She would have been ideal as an opera singer as well! We are blessed to have these recordings of her remarkable work!!
There is a legend about a bird which sings just once in its life, more sweetly than any other creature on the face of the earth. From the moment it leaves the nest it searches for a thorn tree, and does not rest until it has found one. Then, singing among the savage branches, it impales itself upon the longest, sharpest spine. And, dying, it rises above its own agony to outcarol the lark and the nightingale. One superlative song, existence the price. But the whole world stills to listen, and God in His heaven smiles. For the best is only bought at the cost of great pain… Or so says the legend...That SONGBIRD/ THORNBIRD...IS GODS FINEST MS.WHITNEY HOUSTON.!!!!. R.I.P. NIPPY 🐱
The thing about Whitney is that she communicates God’s voice through her mouth. You can almost hear God through her words, her complex phrases, and her richness. There was something so profound about her voice that you’ll never find again. Whether that’s her tone, her control over dynamics, her head voice, etc. there was obviously something special. And you knew it whenever you heard it. We’ll always love Whitney. She gave the world the gift of music. She communicated so much with us. Her music and her legacy will live forever.
My favorite performance ever. As always, complete control. Check out her right foot, she counts beat while simultaneously singing with total fluidity. I noticed this many times when I saw her live, and is evidenced on many live videos. Not only a singer's singer, but a musician's singer as well. Fully aware, and usually controlling, the tempo and key of the music, while having total respect for it. My Nippy, THE pinnacle of the definition "singer", a genius of her craft on so many levels.
In later years (more so outside of her prime, but also sometimes in her prime, she would wiggle her fingers frequently and it usually corresponded to a run or Melisma.....why do you think she did that? I think I have seen some other singers do this as well.
2008bscott what do you mean why lol? It was just a Whitney trademark mannerism. Every singer has them when getting into the song enough. What I like about whitneys is even when they seem odd, I never perceive them that way, because her performance and emotion is ALWAYS genuine, unlike Mariah, where sometimes you get the feeling Mariah is saying with her body language "yeah I'm such a diva rocking this shit" etc. Whitney was above that. She sang for the song. Always
Her voice shows she is godly. Her life story shows she is human.

Thors Hammer I love it...Whitney's voice just lights up the sky!
AMEN..A Heavenly Angelic Tsunami returned back to the Ocean SHORES OF GLORY in the Presence of GOD once more and Forever !!!
Lord have mercy..
She's more like Storm
This is not talent, the is A GIFT! A voice like this born once every century.
She was singing that song as though she were actually talking to the Lord.
That's bc she was.
Personally, I loved everything Whitney sang. However, I was the most moved by her gospel songs.
I loved everything Whitney sang, but I was always the most moved when she sang gospel.
she prob was
Man you, said it, I said the same thing.
Mind, body, heart, & soul! She mastered & used them all to spread his voice through The Voice. ❤️
Sorry but she left God for the glory of men.
@@xiomaraabraham637 she never left god…
@QueenNippyFann She did, if you are a daughter of God and you are a singer in his church and you go to the world, that means you left God, and God will abandon than you
This is so unreal. Her resonance is out of this world.
Angel Johnson Whitney reigned way before Mariah, and still holds her recorded as a voice prodigy, the gold standard for female vocalist. Whitney is the voice.
@@oscarsantos2240 agree though. Mariah is a vocal beast but Whitney is the gold standard for female vocalist.
@@jimmyv8238 and always will be
@@oscarsantos2240 What Mariah got to do with this?? I swear I love Whitney so much but Whitney fans can be so messy some times 😭😭
Instablaster...
Cissy looks so proud of Whitney, and rightfully so. Just amazing!
You can just feel the joy on Cissy's face and heart.
The BEST soprano voice I have ever heard.
Craig Furlow exactly.. she da best.
Facts!!! I’m so tired of folks saying she’s an alto and mezzo smh !! Whitney’s Natural Voice was A Soprano as her Great mother was one as well . That’s how she was trained . As you can see her flawless technique in her Head voice . Even and Full!
Craig Furlow Me too!!!!
iLLustR8 She was a mezzo-soprano by voice type. Lack of musical understanding prompts you to take issue with that. Now, in a choral setting yes, I'm sure a choir director would assign her to the soprano section, but please understand the difference between voice type and choir parts.
Clasically speaking, she is a pure mezzo. A soprano does not sound like this at all. Most full-voiced belters are mezzos.
Ever since she died, I find myself looking for live videos like this at least 3 to 4 times a month. I can’t seem to shake the sadness of her being gone. For those who grew up in the 80’s, she was a part of our childhood.
The ever-curious Jen I am right there with you...we were so lucky to witness FIRST HAND...the phenoms.....WHITNEY..MICHAEL..
PRINCE AND LUTHER....
T Hunter Yes indeed!
Same. I'm back in 2022. Born in 1980. I feel so lucky to have witnessed her in my life.
I can't shake it either,I cry every time I listen to her or watch her sing. I'm still mourning her death. I loved, no adore her so much.
That is so true. Like you I grew up in the 80's and she was everything with her emotional voice. It was like heaven to hear her on the radio and like you I thrall the net to find more of her live performances. A truly great has left us.
Ms Whitney Elizabeth Houston....not the voice of a generation.....the voice of a lifetime...period. Absolutely the voice of an angel
I must say that there is something about Whitney's voice that makes me almost cry. It's so beautiful. If a voice like this ever comes around again the world would be a better place
The world needs another amazing voice that's for sure. There will only ever be one WHITNEY, untouchable in my eyes.
Dan O'Connor Tevin Campbell comes close to having a voice very similar to Whitney Houston
Dan O'Connor me too.. i. Not a cryer but she makes me feel it.
She da best.
This is exactly how I feel about Whitneys voice and heart she makes the world a better place ❤️
The look on Cissy Houston's face says it all.
Sit down and be silent.

Listen to"i believe" live. It's so unreal.
Only God could have given Whitney this beautiful voice so I wish people stop trying to sing like her
Yes! Anointed. 🙌
I remember her singing this song when she was a teenager at New Hope. I was younger, but I knew there was something different when she sang. I now know it was the anointing of the Lord.
You seen her live?
@@Truth_Seeker96 yes! I was in the Inspirational Choir at New Hope Baptist Church. Her aunt directed that choir. I heard Whitey sing this song several times. It brought tears to my eyes each time. The words, the meaning behind them, and her voice -- all beautiful.
@@NEANABUGwow!
I envy you so much!!! I lived in south Jersey...I am just a couple years younger than she was...so I grew up listening to her records from the beginning...but regretfully...I never saw her perform in person...but for sure...I know she's with the Lord, now.
That must have been an amazing experience to hear Whitney Houston sing in a church building!
she had that perfect balance of runs, melisma, vibrato and legato.
Except Mariah Carey
Thank you for wonderfully describing the beauty of Whitney's vocal delivery in this particular performance. Mulling over it, I would say that she was able to give this level of tonal bravado and emotive weight because of her rock solid foundation in gospel and soul. It's truly a marvel, though, when we consider that many gospel singers never had the technical prowess and pitch precision of Whitney Houston. She offered a stunning combination of high technicality and legitimate soul, which made her no less than the Greatest Voice of All.
Oh how eloquently placed and how very true...
@christian Williams yesss You said the same thing I was thinking unmatched , Effortless..🤷🏽♀️🤷🏽♀️ she can do it sitting down
She is the most anointed, talented, effortless singer we will ever have the pleasure to hear in our lifetime. No other compares. I miss her soooooo much. RIP Whitney...your gave us a lot. Thank you.

No one has or ever will have THIS voice. So many layers to her tone, power, and vocals....just unmatched
Single best vocal performance in the history of the world by any singer. Alive or dead!
I agree!!!!
actually, her live 1986 rendition of "I am changing" is THE greatest live performance not only be her, but by any singer who's ever lived. it's here on youtube.
That one is 2nd to this! This performance is just perfect in everyway! to me.
Master Superblaster I couldnt agree more
I sometimes get sad thinking about how much her mother misses her- she’s so proud of her little girl here and at one point, astounded by her voice.
Amen
This performance should've been on her live CD!
My sentiments exactly
I Agree
It wasn't a live performance...this is television and it's lip synched.

People may have their own opinions about her but I don't care, there will never be a voice like hers ever again. Love and rest in power Nippy 😭💔💖

1.22... That voice.that sound. it just erupts and pours out of her. its like the sound of god. and thank god we have this recording,
Whitney's voice is naturally beautiful. #AMEN
AGREED. nobody will ever come close to the young and healthy whitney houston in her prime. NOOO BAHH DEEE
I never ever heard anything more beautiful in my life!

What a powerful voice and passion. That was Whitney, as great as she can be, just her and the music taking all the place with energy
She sings with her soul. I'm not a fan of gospel music, but this feels so warm. She should have stayed in this niche.
She always did gospel songs on her tours and plus she used all background in gospel to sing different genres…..

And to all haters who claim she was high on drugs every time she performed because of her heavy sweating. This video is proof. She sweated because she was an 'Aerobic singer' and gave it all. Drugs had nothing to do with it.
Nico Chisha amen
Nico Chisha How do you know she's not on drugs here? She was doing drugs in the late 80's too.
U know stage lights are very hot..most artist sweat on stage even when there's no dancing involved.
stalitzz I don’t think people should be speculating if she’s on drugs, that’s uncalled for and mean. But to flat out say she’s not on drugs because it’s the 80’s is just wishful thinking. She was doing drugs for a long time, even in the 80’s. But yes it could’ve been the lights, we don’t know.
Nico Chisha I feel like it was because of the wigs she wore.
Cissy's grins of pride for her daughter are just the sweetest thing.
the high notes!! ive been practicing not even close. she is truly anointed. and how proud Sissy is so proud of her daughter in this moment!! this is the look we all want our moms to give us. but so few of us have received them. i recieved a similar look from my mom when i recieved my first college degree. it is indescribable. she was sooooo proud. didnt say anything just gave me "the look"; and that said it all.
INSANE vocals!!! Terrific performance!!! This is one of my favourite performances of her ever, vocal perfection
Her interpretation of a song was like no other! 1:58-2:05; oh my God, that tone!!
Thank you for the magic!! Your impact remains too strong to ever forget. RIP Queen❤️
She also taps her mic to keep control. She was well aware of what she was doing while singing. A true professional.
Always
Yessss!! A “Musicians Singer” 🙌🏽
I love when Whitney sings gospel music, it’s so beautiful. ❤
