    I started with morning and evening routines for one month. I couldn't believe how quickly my house started looking better. Now I just add one new task to the morning and evening routine. Next month Zone cleaning.

      Did you have to do any decluttering first?

    • @marie-louiseweerheim4224
      @marie-louiseweerheim4224 4 года назад +3

      @@poolahpot no, you can start any time. The secret slob has a series here on RUclips to help you get started on daily routines! I found that so much time and energy can go to decluttering, (un)packing (we were moving) etc. And then for example piles of dishes (daily routine) stressed me out. When the daily routines go smootly you can add other things like decluttering. What I do now is declutter while I'm in a zone. So for example the week you clean the kitchen you also declutter in the kitchen.

    It is wonderful when someone who has struggled with something in their life, and has overcome it, is now helping others with the same problem.
    A lot of this stuff is mental. If the directions are confusing then we are going to go even further down the rabbit hole.
    We are already confused. That's why our houses look like they do.
    I open a cupboard and everything falls in my head.
    Complicated explanations can easily lead to overwhelmed feelings.
    So, gratitude gratitude gratitude.
    I am still in baby steps but already was starting to feel a bit confused about how the program looks overall.
    This cleared up a lot of confusion.

    I just happened on this fly lady stuff last night and watching about 100 videos from you and Diane in Denmark. I was so inspired that this morning I made my first control journal and started following it. Well so far today i have finished and put away all of my laundry, Ive had a stack of clean stuff on my bedroom chair for months that ive just worn clothes out of the pile but never got that pile put away. its done now. and i unloaded the dishwasher, but today instead of throwing those dishes that didnt get clean for the last 10 dishwasher trips i actually washed them by hand and put them away. i filled a bag with clothes i no longer wear while i was hanging up the stuff from the pile. thank you i almost cant wait till tuesday to hit the bathrooms.

    I'm not sure which of your video's popped up in my feed, but I thankful that it did. I watched a few and pondered the possibilities. Now, I've always kept a clean house with the exception of a couple of rooms and dishes on the counter. I was working myself crazy trying to keep up while commuting an hour each day to my job. Weekends were full of long lists to accomplish, and by Sunday night I was exhausted and drained. I felt that I never had any fun with my family or got a chance to rest. That has all changed - because one night, exhausted and tired, I dragged myself in the kitchen and cleaned my sink. Then, I did it again. And again. And now, its a nightly ritual that brings an unexpected joy. I've slowly integrated the Flylady System and built a control journal over the past month. My husband and son take part in the weekly home blessing -- and actually look forward to it. This weekend, was completely different. The errand and grocery lists were gone. An entire day's worth of laundry tasks were also gone. Rather than work, I filled the weekend with family fun and genuine rest. The I cannot say thank you enough. I adore your channel and appreciate you.

    Hi Steph! So about 2 weeks ago I stumbled across Fly Lady...it defiantly caught my attention! I’m fact I started something similar on my own and well....it never really launched!🙃
    Thank you for this video!! Love it & understand the system.
    I took your advice and got the book from the library.
    Finished the book in a week, made my control journal, used a binder I had, saw a peel & stick color page and put in the front (just did yesterday while video chatting with sisters😊)
    I have been doing baby steps and started putting into place my routines....come Monday morning I’m doing the zone decluttering!
    Oh! 2 things I did was pull all my cleaning supplies to one spot & pitched empty & never used items & split it up to
    Kitchen
    Bathroom
    Game room bathroom.
    Now I only have what I use and in each location so I’m not running for supplies, it’s easily within reach!
    I have always loved to clean 🤷‍♀️ but this is what I need-simple doable not all day, now I’ll find the time to scrapbook!
    Thanks to you and The Queen Fly Lady-Marla 😁

    Thank you to the wonderful network of RUclipsrs, including yourself Steph, plus Diane in Denmark, A Better Life with Kat and The FlyLady herself, for the ongoing videos that provide motivation and support to all of us newbies! I’m 8 weeks in as a new Flybaby. Gradually making my way through the whole house, every cupboard, every pile, every drawer, 15 minutes at a time. Got my daily routines and weekly home blessing going. Fresh sheets are being truly appreciated. Now started meal planning and using my calendar better. Love the Basic Weekly Plan as well, especially Anti-Procrastination day. I’ve still got a way to go, but wow, my house is looking so much better and we are all loving the fact that I am stepping up to be the CEO of our home, without stressing myself out.

    If you read the book and follow what you can, it's a no fail system. If you struggle with procrastination, you'll find it hard to get going. That ofcourse applies to other cleaning/ decluttering systems too. I work in my zone and 5 minutes each other zone. Only 35 minutes a day. We spend more then that checking Facebook.

      @@calisongbird Wow, that was a great observation! First off, I love The FlyLady, and I am a huge fan. I, too, think her official website is difficult to navigate. There is way too much information in one place. Considering her mission is to help people overcome clutter, "clutter" is an apt word to describe it. It looks very "busy." I have tried to read it, but it was difficult. Also, the links to other parts of the site are tiny and super-close to each other. It could be an amazing website. Unfortunately, it looks like it's probably had the same format for severe years.
      I have wanted to send her a fan message to ask her to consider re-desiging it. She could keep the charming graphics but she could include more links in the way of cute icons and a welcoming side panel leading users to different parts of her system, as well as to her Facebook page, You Tube channels, etc.
      It's sad, because she could be unwittingly discouraging people from learning about her wonderful FlyLady system.

    What a great video! You are a great teacher! 😀 You touched on the whole system in a thorough, entertaining way. It's obvious you KNOW and USE the Fly Lady's system, and you explained it beautifully. I wish I had been as poised as you when I was your age!
    I do want to share that I know we are living during a time when saving money is very important, but the wisdom shared by The Fly Lady is worth A LOT, and buying her books would be a great way to show gratitude. They are reasonably priced, especially the Kindle editions. Of course, if a library has them, borrowing them is a great idea.
    The Fly Lady staff run a great RUclips channel and website, and their official Facebook group has members who are really involved. They also sell merchandise for the home. Again, thank you for this video. You have a new subscriber!! 😀

    Thanks for your inspiration. I have my morning & evening routine down but I'm still not finished decluttering. I think I'm one step forward & two steps back. It seems that way anyhow. I really appreciate this crash course & believe me you can't go over any of it too many times for it to stick.

    I'm so glad I found your videos first, before the original Fly lady. I really like the way you explain things and I like you style. The Fly lady is a bit off putting, to be honest, and not to my liking at all. However, the system (the way you present it) is great and is working for me. I have been following it for about 2 weeks now, randomly though, not religiously 😀 and the results are there - decluttering is underway, zones are being cleaned and I don't get stresses about housework anymore. I have always been saving housework for weekends - how crazy is that! Now, come the weekend, there's nothing left to clean😀👍 thanks, Steph!

      So true! You can't clean clutter! We have been in our home over 20 years! We have 3 girls( all in their 20's) so we have accumulated LOTS OF STUFF. MOSTLY I HAVE 😭
      I made it a point to just focus on decluttering. From the attic to the garage! Let me just say it was an under taking.!🥴
      But once it was done it was so nice! Now I will apply this towards keeping my home clean and decluttered🤗

    The morning routine and the decluttering have helped me a lot also the zone cleaning and weekly bless is great, I adjust all that for my situation but especially the decluttering results in weeks of getting ride of bags and bags of clutter and stuff we don't use any more,

    😀 I'm so glad you said not to worry about zone cleaning just yet! I feel pretty good about what I have in my daily and weekly routines, but I really want/need to focus more time decluttering--especially since grad school is on break for the summer. First, it's overwhelming, and I don't want to wear myself out so much the first day that I quit after that. Second, it's hard to know where to start. So...I thought I would combine the idea of zone cleaning [focus on a specific area for 15 minutes] and use that to decide where to start decluttering. (Does anyone else have indecision paralysis, like me?) I feel like daily/weekly routines with 15 minutes of decluttering is plenty to start. BTW, I'm in a small one-bedroom apartment with way too many boxes after divorce, so the zones hit all of my main rooms and make sense. Once I get things under control, then I can adjust my schedule to zone cleaning instead of decluttering. I seriously was contemplating doing both, but I think I would burn out too quickly due to physical overload. Thanks again, Steph! This was exactly what I needed to hear to know I was on the right track instead of mentally beating myself up for not wanting to do more.

  • @Hippabellita1
    @Hippabellita1 5 лет назад

    Very well explained and well structured with the written out points to make it easy to follow.
    It's a good structure to help you break down the mountain of overwhelm into manageable packs, but the time invest is there as in any other cleaning routine ....
    And I don't see the majority of the weekly home blessing chores feasible to be done in 10 minutes. And I am not talking from the gut feeling but from having done those chores with the timer as this is some of several things I have learned and implemented from the flylady system.

    • @alisonmlewis4825
      @alisonmlewis4825 5 лет назад

      Hippabellita1 I think the theory with the home blessing 10 minutes is that you don’t have to do it thoroughly, e.g. for vacuuming, you would only vacuum the most heavily used areas and not bother moving the furniture or getting into the corners. If your house is so large that you can’t cover the most-used areas in 10 minutes, then do what you can in 10 minutes, then the following week you start with an area you didn’t get to the last time. It’s just about keeping on top of the task and chipping away at it every week.
      The time for the more thorough cleaning is when you’re doing the zone cleaning.

    Thank you for this! I have attempted to do the fly Flylady system several times, but I've always become overwhelmed. I honestly didn't really "get it" and would try to make it much more complicated than it was. I really get stuck on doing it perfect or not at all. (or all at once!) I noticed that I'd be doing small little things and it was adding up and I thought "Oh! Is this why Fly lady was about?" Hah! I came across one of your videos on RUclips and you mentioned Diane in Denmark. Thanks to the two of you it has really clicked and I get it now. And hopefully this Super-Secret-Slob is on her way to becoming a former slob.
