A star fort is a particular type of structure that when see from above resembles a classic star shape. Often these structures were built hundreds of years ago yet their construction is impressive even by today's standards. Some of them have been built on top of mountains and in extremely arduous environments. To add to that, they often have very strange factors in their histories. At the very least, they are amazing structures and I really appreciate the beautiful architecture ! Check out some of my other vids and see what I mean !
A solution to improvements in cannon and muskets technology in the 16th-19th centuries than made the old style castles vulnerable to cannon fire and the defenders vulnerable to aimed musket fire.
if starforts are to defend against calvary and troops. Why would the have the same type on governors island? It would be ships attacking. if the ships took the island how could a starfort protect?
Dan Neumann they weren't necessarily to protect from infantry or cavalry, a lot of bastion/star forts were designed with cannons in mind hence being built with retaining walls instead of just straight walls, they were sometimes placed near rivers or the sea to defend the entrance to said river or canal etc... To answer tous question about how a star fort can protect: star forts usually had many gun (cannon) emplacements along the walls, many of which were naval type cannons (characterized by smaller wheels), they would fire at incoming enemy ships as to protect the entrance to a river for example (like mentioned before).
Dan Neumann and Marshal Cassowary, yes indeed the forts had cannons brought into them, and were often unsuccessful the rare times they ever did see battle. The big question there is, why use a design that has proven ineffective again and again ? What also strikes me as odd about the cannons is that some of the structures seem like the emplacements had to be widened to accommodate the cannons, as if the cannons were an after thought. I suppose it could be argued that as time went on cannons got bigger so they had to enlarge the holes, but still seems odd to me and perhaps a bit of an oversight. Also, many times these forts did not have enough men to man the guns or cannons. This occurred in many different military situations from Canada to Indonesia, different cultures like Dutch, British and Spanish, over the few hundred years these structures were used. It's a very odd oversight that seemed to happen again and again, and again. What are your thoughts on this ?
I took the starfort in new Mexico and brought it into a cad program. I checked the alignment and angles. It absolutely perfect. Why would soldiers in the desert in the 1800s produce something so perfect to repel Indians
@@thurt1eht They were successful. That's why they rarely saw battle. Besieging a fort is difficult and costly, so it was only done when the besieging force had at least 10 times as many men as the garrison, and had enough provisions and ammunition to last what could be a very long time, maybe months. Their mere presence is a formidable deterrent. Frontier forts, like Ft. Ligonier, were usually thrown up in a hurry, saw one or two battles. then the frontier moved on, and they were abandoned. But forts that protected major cities and waterways, like Ft. Niagara and Ft. McHenry, were frequently rebuilt and improved many times over many years. And every improvement was for more and bigger guns. By the mid nineteenth century, artillery had gotten so big and powerful that forts would soon be obsolete. They were usually undermanned because enemies rarely do what the other expects. They move as many men as possible to where they expect their own to be most needed, and they attack where they expect the enemy's to be most sparse. If the spies report a lot of activity in and around the fort, The attack will be likely to go somewhere else.
@@danneumann3274 because then you need a lot fewer soldiers to man it, and fewer supplies for those soldiers, and the men no longer needed can still use the fort as a base for patrols out to push the natives further back and claim more land. Read a few books.
As noted by Robert E Lee and Josiah Tattnall the fort protected a natural harbor and the ships at anchor, and denied use of that harbor to the British and pirates.
These, "Star Forts", are found all over the world, they are ancient structures ! I truly believe that these Star Forts were some kind of power generators, as they are always built by water, or where water once used to be. Too bad that Governments all over the world covered up alot of them with roads, and other structures, so sad.
They're not found all over the world. There are none in Australia, most of Asia (except bits which were under European control) or most of Africa again apart from the less than 1 percent of it which was under European control pre-1795. Even more interestingly there are none at all in Tatarstan, or any parts of central Asia where peoples wrongly lumped together and classed as Tatars. They are only in places under European control between 1500 and 1800 ish. By a strange coincidence that is because they were built by European between 1500 and 1800.
The country with most star forts is the Netherlands, probably more than on the rest of the planet put together, but in ancient times half of it was underwater as it hadn't been poldered. So they were built underwater?

Hi, just got on to this subject: What is the conspiracy about starforts? That we were never told about these, and they are all over the world, in all different civilisations, yet they all have the same fort?
With some star forts there is a definite resemblance to the star of david, however with even more there is not. There may be some kind of correlation, but far more information is needed before we can speculate on that.
There's loads of star fort ruins in Ukraine (plus pyramids there and in China), Japan, India and many others around world. History does not stake up. Research Tartaria, mud floods and look at Australia, NZ and Canada too.
I found one on Kauai - well.. I didn’t “find” it, it is supposedly build by Russian soldiers in the 1800s... a ridiculous account. It’s much older than 1800. Although, they may have occupied it, they didn’t build it - like all of the forts shown here. False narratives that make little sense.. I wonder that they were? Probably some sort of hydro power station.. - Great work! Thank you
Wow nice find ! Fort Elizabeth on Kauai Island en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russian_Fort_Elizabeth I'll have to do an episode on the forts of Hawaii and their history. Definitely a very strange story. Thanks Dr. Gray !
@@williamchamberlain2263 Great question! I don't know. I have no explanation of what they were, only that they are on every continent, were built by a previous culture that we know very little about, and share a commonality in that they are all built by running water - often where a river meets a larger body of water, but certainly not always. Finally they're very old. Hydro power station is my best guess based on that loose information. However, that's a guess in the context of a 21st century mind. Whoever built these were very advanced, and it is possible, if not probable, that they were utilizing technology that we don't understand, for purposes that we don't grasp. We'll probably never know. However, the orthodox narrative that we are given for these forts is absurd. - What do you think they were?
@@DrGray-qh6ow Name one in Australia? The interior of Africa? The interior of Asia, not under European control between 1500 and 1800? You can't because there aren't any. They are only found in places under European control pre 1800. So don't you think that means perhaps that they were built by Europeans?
@@simonh6371 Maybe - i don't know. Have you seen one? I have, they're all over the US. The Kauai one that I mentioned is a poor example, though I do believe that it is an old star fort. But, the serious ones are massive and often made of basalt or granite - very hard stone. If they were built by the Europeans, they don't fit in the historical narrative. At the time of their construction (even if we assume tat they were built between 15 and 1800) Europe was in the time known as "classical antiquity," or, the "iron age." And, they did not have the technological skill or tools to construct structures like star forts... also, the settlers coming to North America were supposedly pilgrims. None of it adds up to me. Also, if we assume they were built earlier - bronze age, etc. then it becomes even more of a stretch that they could construct such structures. I think that they were inherited. But I don't know and doubt that we will ever know. Thanks for the question - and for asking in a civilized way. Keep digging - if you find anything, please let me know! - Erik
The narrative 🙄 👏 we're given is laughable. Being European or 🇬🇧 ish I was puzzled how could they be in the U.S? What is taught and what we learn defines us. They would hide all to keep us in our place. Now I fight in spirit more than ever , but in love and joy. Pain ,anger n rage have a meaning to their place in time, but they are not component's to live by ❤
"Being European or 🇬🇧 ish I was puzzled how could they be in the U.S? " - Star forts were main defence structures from XV-th to XIX-th century, there is no mystery why they were built in USA - Becaue THESE WERE A COMMON DEFENCE STRUCTURE!
You give the construction dates for every one of theses forts.......and every one is on a strategic point of a river or waterway. Or on a rise over a plain that makes it easy to defend the high ground. All contempary architecture with the time periods you mention, eg mid 1600's to early 1800's Where are the lies...where are the conspiracy theory's?? Early Spanish or English ( maybe a couple French ones) designs the same as every one built in Europe at the same time period... Proven to be built in the same time period. The armies of all those countries built them because it's mostly earth mounds and trenches and proven to be effective. Built to mount cannons inside to fire over the walls at enemy advancing towards them. The "stars" give musket men (even arrows) crossed fields of fire on enemies. No mystery,, no advanced civilisation. The simple answer is often the best one.
Most of your points are incorrect, did you even try before you spewed that nonsense or is that how you were programmed? Many of these forts never saw battle and certainly weren't built by armies. They required massive amounts of resources to be transported for their construction and never saw battle. There's one in Japan that pre-dates European contact. There are so many inconsistencies that it's impossible to take your question seriously and tbh I don't even know why I'm bothering.
@@whatquestion ....never saw battle !!!!......that is mainly the reason for them. You never want them to be used in battle. Deterrent more than actually use them. Japan may have been the first ones built...then dutch traders brought the idea back in the 1600's. Resources....what resources. ...most of it is dirt embankments with simple brick walls. Everything made from around the site...clay and sand with some timber and stone. Some later embellishments like buildings and structures may have had to be brought in but most of the materials are locally sourced.
@@whatquestion i say to you....most of YOUR points are incorrect, did YOU even try before you spewed that nonsense or is that how YOU have been programmed? ????
@@petersmith4943 The amount of work needed to build these structures is mind blowing, that they would be intended merely as a deterrent just sounds like you're trolling. I just made that shit up about them to see if you'd bite, star shaped forts in Japan were outlawed by the third Shogun of the seventh dynasty and they've never had a single one
@@whatquestion lol...nice trolling. I just dont get your logic......Star forts are different and large and all over the planet therefore aliens or superior beings or ancient advanced people must have built them. The simple truth is....they were built between 1600 and 1900 by armies of humans to defend a strategic position. Simple answer is usually the correct one.
I know the term "fort" is used as a practical device to describe these structures but to interpret ALL of these as having been built as military compounds is just plain dumb. Yes, it is provocative that so many are on peninsular promontories, but many were also built in the middle of nowhere with no apparent strategic advantage except as possible housing for troops, supplies and heavy weaponry. Furthermore, the sheer magnitude of these complexes is staggering by ANY construction standards...including masonry, earth-moving capability, treacherous and difficult terrain to establish perimeter walls, etc etc. If we even pause to remind ourselves that many of these were allegedly built centuries ago, before adequate roads, without massive modern earth-moving and excavation equipment, in many locations most certainly without easy over-land access to stone quarries, much less highly-skilled stone masons, or even brick factories. In addition, let us not fail to acknowledge an ASTOUNDING FACT: THE DESIGN OF A HUGE NUMBER OF THESE STRUCTURES IS CONSISTENTLY CONSONANT ACROSS THE WHOLE WORLD. This fact alone begs explanation, as does the so-called "Tartarian" architecture found all over the entire world dating back centuries and centuries. I profess no expertise in these matters, but a certain kind of "common-sense" seems to indicate that there is a true anomaly going on here, "historical records" notwithstanding.
I'm not sure to be honest but it's interesting that certain designs are repeated in various places. Some star forts thousands of miles apart are the exact same design. Some of these ancient forts are also round and irregularly shaped, but the common denominator is that they are all repeated throughout the world. I have a few different theories but not enough data to support any of them yet. I think their location may be just as significant as their shape. What do you think of the shape ? Any theories as to why this particular shape ?
@@thurt1eht I'm in complete agreement with you when you say the location may be just as significant. Things which come to mind are: cymatics, high level stonework is synonymous with pagan sites and also strange structures identified by Michael Tillinger (who I don't agree with on many points) in South Africa, and also the Pentagon. I can't see any direct connections though, which makes me more inclined to agree that the locations are significant. Ley lines? The structures themselves look very effective as fortifications. The diamonds remind me of the Double Diamond Troop Configuration. Yet, I'm not too sure how effective that would be against siege engines. One thing which may prove useful for someone interested, is my experience visiting a full, 1:1 scale granite replica of Stonehenge in Esperance, WA. Australia. A predominately open structure, although it had a profound effect to acoustics. It actually amplified sound with no echo. A very similar effect to sound under water. -Just thought I'd add that As much as I enjoy outlandish theories and ancient mysteries, I hesitate solving and giving answers to them, as it inhibits any further thought or intrigue. I'm grateful you haven't added any anchors to your presentations, just straight up facts. So, thank you. If these are in any way pagan; "As above so below"...
Awesome Micheal, it seems like we are of the same mind on much of this. I was not familiar with the double diamond formation, did a quick Google search and found some very interesting stuff ! Also the sound factor of Stonehenge is super interesting, but even more so that you say it also occurs in the replica in Australia!!! What!!! That's amazing. I am working on another video about Coral Castle and its builder Ed Leedskalnin, I have some insight to share that I have yet to see in any coral castle documentaries. Ed talks about using sound to alter/control magnetic fields. Thanks for the info Michael, so much to learn in this beautiful world !
Enfilade fire. They are designed to make the maximum use of enfilade fire that the specific terrain will allow. The arrowhead bastions are shaped that way so that their flanks can be used to lay down enfilade fire along the outside walls of the curtains and neighboring bastions. There are many books on the subject. I think the most concise is "A Treatise On Fortification" by John Muller, 1747.

Good clip but Fort Jay on Governors Island is technically part of Manhattan even though it is closer to Brooklyn.
Thanks for the clarification bustermot !
if starforts are to defend against calvary and troops.
You missed one of the strangest Starforts in the world. (Google Earth: Garden Key, FL )
'Strange' because one has to ask, "What is it protecting?"

Thanks Dr. Gray !
If it's hydro power where is the reservoir, spillway, and transmission lines?
- Erik

You give the construction dates for every one of theses forts.......and every one is on a strategic point of a river or waterway. Or on a rise over a plain that makes it easy to defend the high ground. All contempary architecture with the time periods you mention, eg mid 1600's to early 1800's
Where are the lies...where are the conspiracy theory's??

Great job with the video. Very well polished. This geometry is very interesting. What do you think is so important to this particular shape??

Enfilade fire. They are designed to make the maximum use of enfilade fire that the specific terrain will allow. The arrowhead bastions are shaped that way so that their flanks can be used to lay down enfilade fire along the outside walls of the curtains and neighboring bastions.
