Mentioning his brother was a fantastic tactic because he knew Kurt would get so angry, because anger can block out pain for a short amount of time, hence why Kurt felt no pain when he kicked down the tree until afterwards.
Sitting down, pushing the rickety vhs tape into a big box player and watching this through an old tube tv with half decent speakers was the best... jesus... I really am a product of a bygone age that'll never come again. Van Damme wasn't my favourite, but he was definitely one of the best. Another one of those 'right place right time' foreign voiced success stories you wont get anymore 🤷♂️ Im just glad I was around to see it the way it was 🙂

These training exercises do seem to make so much sense to boost your skill and abilities. Kicking underwater- for faster kicks since you're doing it against resistance, kicking the tree- for harder kicks, stretching legs- for longer reach, dropping coconuts for resistance to hits, etc. The sticks poking at him- for speed. More people should train this way it seems, cept maybe the tree.
Look on youtube some of these people in countries like in this movie really kick bamboo and there's a girl I've seen who strengthened her shins so thick with splints I believe They are called she can kick concrete pillars. How hardcore is she right?

As a kid kicking down the bamboo was a badass scene and when I got older I used to think kicking down that bamboo was impossible and was just theatrical, but in that country there are real fighters who have strengthened their legs so much they even kick concrete pillars. How fucking bad ass is that!

One of the best martial arts movies. We don't get to watch such movies these days. Today's actors only take steroids and build muscles. Or we get to watch over actions. Today's heros beat more than 100 guys, very unrealistic action.
Ah yes… Kickboxer is a great film from Van Damme. Legendary MMA fighter Mirko Cro Cop, was inspired by Jean-Claude Van Damme. Cro Cop was also like a real life action hero. His famous quote is “Right leg, hospital. Left leg, cemetery.” Meaning that his left kick to the head was the most feared kick in MMA. Muay Thai is an amazing martial arts, as well. I just started doing Muay Thai, this year.
What a film, I remember me and my little cousin doing these fight scenes when we were kid's, I was Van Damme and he was Tong Po 🤣 miss those days. Kickboxer and Van Damme inspired a lot of kid's to train in Karate, I was one of them but stopped once I reached 2nd Dan. They don't make movies like this anymore, it's a shame. ❤

@@EastendofLondon2 I train muay thai and his kick look great but in a real fight nah. you can see the holes. like even a karate kick but no retreat no surrender is better in terms of real technique but he looks great on film. like the low, mid, high kick. tong po vs kurt the only muay thai fight with no leg kicks lol but still awesome film all round

I thought it was a banana tree? Banana trees have a softer trunk and are often used for martial arts training in SE Asia.
