Hey man, thank you for the turbo instal series. It inspired me to try it myself. Succesfuly I have instaled TD04 into my 1998 Forester. Total cost was about $140, so yeah, I would say it's "dirtcheap". Everything works as is. No intercooler, no fuel management. Manage to cut 7s of my 0-60 time, no it's 10s. (slow model.) Anyway, before I saw your videos, I thought it was impossible, as the forums would let you believe. I'm happy I decided to go for it.
I have a supercharger on my NA 3800 in a Bonneville. The original supercharged motor broke a timing chain and a piston, and I have not real issues with boost, I had about 10 lbs with ethanol.
watched your series a few times and it helped me make my mind up. ewg welded tomorrow and everything will be bolted up this weekend. fingers crossed. Thanks
Hey. I got one forester S turbo 2.0 with ej205, and one outback 2.5 n/a. Do you think I can take the block and just refit the turbo parts on the ej25 in the forester and make it run well?
Hey, I've got a 2001 forester with the stock engine in it. I believe it's a ej255 or ej257, what are my options for tuning? I cant seem to find anything for standalone or piggyback. Any help?
@@Dirtcheapdaily Hey dude, It has been 2 years since i've asked this question and now I'm finally going to turbo my legacy ;') I already have most of the parts. I'm waiting for the last few.
@@mattbrodeur7416 pretty good actually. Did it to my daily and drove it for half a year. Like that before using it as a project car. I'm now actually in the process of swapping in a complete WRX engine with a standalone ECU.
how much boost can those stock injectors handle? Im turboing a 97 subaru legacy 2.2 with a ko3 turbo, and i need to get an external wastegate, the stock one was bent.
Hi Aaron, thank you for these awesome videos, I'm new at this and just trying to learn before I start. I have a 2000 Outback wagon with a JDM 2.0 that just replaced the stock 2.5, which I still have. My question is this; what are your thoughts on putting a turbo onto the 2.0 engine and also into a car with an automatic transmission? I watched the episodes where you did the manual swap and I would like to do that, but in the interim, I wouldn't mind having a little more power, just not sure how the transmission would handle it. Thanks!
+Luis Velazquez I don't think the 08 ECU can deal with boost, so you'd need to figure that out. But yea, 95k is brand new! This engine has 184k on it. Price depends on where you get parts. Check out the finale episode that aired last Wednesday for specifics on price. I go over it all there. 👍🏻
+bradleywilkins it's held up fine for me so far. As long as you don't have ridiculous expectations or try and ram too much boost into it, it should hold up.
Are there any upgrades you can do to a stock engine to make it able to handle more power? For example I own a 2008 Subaru Impreza 2.5l is it possible to turn that engine into the WRX or STI engine or are they completely different engines and would need an engine swap or are they just upgraded versions of each other? I realize it would be easier to just do an engine swap and that’s what everyone says it’s not worth your time just do an engine swap however I want to learn how to do this shit and I’m okay with putting in the time and effort if that’s all it is so anyways my question is what kind of upgrades can I do to the engine it’s self to make it stronger and able to handle more power
It can handle power just fine. It’s the tune that needs to be good. One upgrade you can do is ARP head studs. The engine case of an STI is a bit different as well as the pistons so it can handle more boost.
+Julio Vasco pretty sure it's posted on the oil plumbing video. Go check that out. Otherwise, do some Google research and you'll be able to figure it out

I have an fmu on mine and as long as you increase fuel pressure, ive run 13psi on e85.
I don’t know if it’s the same with EJs, but with LS injectors you can decap them and get x2 the poundage out of them.
Any tips for finding cheap wrx parts? Hard to find headers or turbos around here.

Handling over power.
Can u take the ecu from an 08 still and put it in a stock impreza? And then put a turbo on it?
+Dale Cartee yea, as long as the engine you're putting it on has all the same sensors that the sti ecu is looking for. 👍🏻
