1998 S10 Blower Motor Replacement the EASY way

- Original blower motor started screeching, and making horrendous noises. After watching other's videos on doing this job, I prepared for the battle everyone said I was in for. But the way I ended up doing it was very easy, I did NOT disconnect anything electrical except the motor, I was in and out very quickly. The order of operations for the EASY way, is: Set aside ECU (still connected) by removing its three 10MM screws, pop the cable connector mount loose from under the fender lip (do not unplug this connector), remove the 5/16 SAE nut holding the cable harness on its stud close the blower motor, and disconnect the blower motor connector. This fully frees up the ECU and wiring harness so you can move it out of the way. Remove and set aside the coolant reservoir tank by taking off the three 10MM nuts, disconnecting the fill hose to the radiator cap. Remove the coolant tank stud closest to the blower motor by squeezing the stud retainer spring clip from inside the wheel well, and work the stud assembly down and out of its square hole. Now you have full uninhibited access to the blower motor. Use an extension with a wobbly or a u-joint to remove the five 7/32 SAE screws holding the motor on. Pull the motor flange back slightly, rotate the flange so the connector and flat portion is facing down, then the motor will just come straight out.
Best video explaining this on RUclips. Thanks!
My driveway is under a big oak tree. 20 years of trash in the housing. Don't forget to use a shop vac to clean it out.
My 1991 s10 won’t blow air thru top vents only bottom any idea what could be
Hey Alan; I had that issue once too. On mine, I found a worn out and cracked vacuum line, under the dash on the drivers side, that supplies vacuum to the diaphragms in the dash. No matter where I turned the vent selector, it would only come out one way. Once I found that vacuum line and repaired it, no issues since. There's a good post that's about 10 years old that shows the vacuum actuators under the dash, if that's the problem, by a guy named Mark Jenkins. There's another video showing that vacuum line, by TheS10Tapes. There's another really short video by Northadore that shows that vacuum line also, and what happens when it deteriorates. I hope this helps you! Thank you for dropping in!
Interesting is a trq video that pulls off with no mention of stud being there.
My old blower motor was doing the same thing, but it still blew out. Hot heat put a new one in. And it is not blowing hot heat like the other one. What could it Bixby please comment back and let me know, thank you.
My 1998 Chevy S10 Blazer LT doesn’t have the bolts on the blower. It says to cut along the line to service the motor . Is there another way to get it out?
Hey Adam. I have not seen one of these without the bolts before, even though I used to have a 98 S10 Blazer LT. I never had to do any maintenance on its blower. If you do repair yours, and have to use the "cut along the lines" method, it would help others if you could record a video of your doing it, and posting it to your RUclips channel. Thank you for dropping by!
Is there anyway to retrofit a cabin air filter to the s10? Thanks
Hey onewise; I have never thought of doing that, but I'd bet there is a way. If you fab that up, please post it and let me know! I'd love to see that.
The old fan was 12amps
You think my math was wrong? If so, please show how you got 12 amps. I can always learn something.
Was more difficult to install motor than remove it
I don’t know how he got 60 amps
