    Important: Disconnect your negative battery cable before beginning this fan motor replacement. This video is a quick walkthrough of the steps I've taken to replace a whining blower motor on a 98 Chevy Blazer. The process covered in this video will be very similar or the same on many other vehicles as well. Other pickup trucks and SUVs include GMC Jimmy, TrailBlazer, S10 Pickup, Sonoma, Envoy and many more.

    Thank you, man. You are literally the only video on this topic that shows how to get it back in by knocking that bolt out of the way

    Right on! ... Thank you for that "change the blower motor" video. I have '99 Blazer LS 2Dr. 2WD with a blower fan that squeals and only runs on "high"... at 360,000 miles, it's time for me to change-out that fan. Thanks for your help!

    I took that off my 98 Sonoma because it squeaked too and was also the culprit Im sure of my resistor burning out too exactly like you said too. Thing was I never took off the computer tho to take it off I did it with it in place. Did make it harder in a way but that's all I did it popped out and I had to do some gymnastics to get it back in but I did. Oh I oiled mine with like silicone based oil got the squeak out and made it spin better too. It's the original on too I see the date that it was made in 98 too.

    Once I get the chance, I am going to do this myself. Who knows. Maybe I'll make a video of it, too. You really made it easy to understand. Thanks.

    Also for that 7/32 bolt if you put some grease in the socket it will help hold it in the socket, just a friendly tip from the guys at Eastwood Automotive!!

    A lot of motors don’t come with a fan and you need to use your old one. You should also switching that. The first time I did this about 15 years ago with no instructions it was the only thing I couldn’t figure out

    I have a 2000 Jimmy and the blower makes lots of noise on the 3 and 4 speed setting. Sounds like it just needs some WD-40. Your video was extremely useful so when it warms up here in NY, I can just replace it. One thing you did not mention, is since you are removing wires from the PCM, one should disconnect the battery first. This maybe obvious to some but maybe not others.

      ***** I rewatched it and see nothing. I am using a windows desktop

    • @loomex

      ***** Now this is odd. I rewatched it 3 times with nothing, and now I am watching and the yellow battery warning is there...weird

      ***** Because you have an S-body vehicle, I am sure you will get many more opportunities to tell people to DISCONNECT THE BATTERY BEFORE YOU BEGIN! I am on my 3rd. First 96 blazer engine committed suicide while on vacation in FL. Second 96 blazer I put to rest (frame had rotted out to the point of no repair). With the help of your video's, I'm hoping the Jimmy will hold out a bit longer.

      Loomex, sounds like my 2001 Blazer! 3 - 4 speeds sounds horrible (not all the time). Right now it's - 31... too cold to work out in the snow bank to fix it!!! Sigh. Hope it lasts until warms up.

      ***** I need to do oil cooler lines too, Oil Filter holder and radiator. Once you do the video I can tackle this. I always get hung up on some simple step or lack of tool. Your videos help minimize the issues.
      The Oil cooler lines leak in the cold. I use wood stove caulk to stop the leak. The radiator leaks if it is topped off and stays about 8-12 oz from full. The oil filter holder has rotted away. The casting is very poor. Despite the issues the car still runs great. I am up in Maine in Bethel at my timeshare. I would love to talk on the phone with you can you contact me on facebook ? Your videos has allowed me to keep my car along with the reasonably price parts you can find online. I would like to help you with your videos and compensate you for your good will.

      My blower motor was inoperative suddenly after working fine as opposed to becoming progressively worse or noisy. After removing the screws and pulling the motor and squirrel cage outward I gave it a little spin and then it worked fine again. It seems as if I had something suck in mine which is now removed. I figured I'd try this since removal is so easy and I didn't yet have the replacement.

    hi Mark, great video. I have 2 questions for you. while you have the antifreeze Reservoir out would it be a good idea to flush that out and cases got any contaminants or debris inside it? and second of all should you clean the contacts to go into the computer and if so what would you use before you plug it all back in? keep up the great work . thanks.

    Great informative video! So does the ground connection just hang and is no longer needed?

    • @austinwest8352
      @austinwest8352 6 лет назад

      Yes. The new motor is internally grounded. So your external plug is not needed. Id tape it up and zip tie it to something, but not too tight.

    What about removing the fender?

    • @RaoulThomas007

      You can remove the inner fender. That makes the bottom 5.5mm bolt much easier. However, it takes a little time too.

    That stud in your way can easily be moved by loosening the bolt most of the way and gently tapping it down into the wheel well. Just tighten the bolt to lift it back up again.

  • @zachharp563
    @zachharp563 3 года назад

    what exactly does the shroud do? if the blower bolts in there, then doesnt it seal up and seal up on the lip of the tube? if its only one screw holding the shroud in there, then cant you just put that screw in there without the shroud and go on your way?

    Hey Man, I have an 05 Blazer, and the blower won't even come one. I've searched and tested the relays, and connectors and it lights up. Any ideas where I could look before I go about this procedure?

      Because your vehicle is First Generation. In 1995, GM was transitioning from OBD I, to mandatory OBD II, in 1996.

    PCM or ECM?
    PCM is Pulse Code Modulation AKA digital but I 'spose it could also mean? What's PCM mean in regard to what he's referring to?

      Jeff Evans Did you get the issue resolved ? I am scared to do it by taking all the connectors off and then having them all work. Try some spray that helps electrical conductivity.
