Changeable
You're on the right path 💪
One day you will realize how much you have changed and will really appreciate not being perfect at shading from the start, so better not stress too much about it.
Take one step at a time and soon you'll have taken 10, the next 90 will be much easier and looking back, you'll wonder "how did I end up here already?" You stop counting the steps and go forth naturally
Sometimes you have the energy to run, sometimes you gotta go slower. Sometimes there's a hill, but after there's a downhill and you find out how much strength you got from the tough and rewarding path.
you got this, sometimes it's better to not get stuck thinking about where you are, but where you are headed
@@fazzypanda thanks man I feel better now
You should draw a lot of shading about it it works
Imagine a light source. Observe how object appears when exposed to light. Different materials react differently to light. Also, practice 10,000x
Wow I always had an issue drawing hair in the past. Thank you.
This can be applied in just about every style. I still suck at hair cuz shading for me is super difficult with my art style, but it's honestly what all of the pros do.
nah I think dreads looks like the "spaghetti" hair example. I am no artist though since I can only draw tick figures
@@ոakedsquirtle Huh. Didnt think of that. You're right, dreads are typically drawn the spaghetti hair style. Well in my style anyways lol. You make a solid point there. Also, I gotta say, I found ur pfp and name hilarious-
@@ոakedsquirtleI've also seen styles where they just straight up draw the spaghetti hair even for regular hair. Imo there's no wrong way to do art, I mean art is entirely subjective by definition (I think)

Cartoony artists: "mhm, yep, I'm paying full attention and I will *definitely* use this information."
Cartoonists trying to simplify are probably already focusing on the shape of mass more than those striving for realism and wanting to render all the hair true to life.
I'm a cartoonist and I find these lessons useful and valuable. A cartoon is nothing more than an exaggeration of realism. You have to understand the rules before you break them.

This makes total sense to me except the way I learned how to draw hair is that one day I looked at an image of hair and it clicked in my head
Oh I love those moments. Like, for the longest I couldn’t draw hands. But one day i was just studying my own hands and palms and it just CLICKED. I love when that happens.

And this is why I always tell budding artists that there is no shame in using references. I've been doing art for over 2 decades. I still use references for pretty much everything I do.
Even though I no longer do art professionally, even in my engineering career now I still constantly use references. Taking from other work is just the foundation of learning and understanding for yourself.
Ha double entendre ! Hair is not easy for me.
THANK YOU I REALLY NEEDED THIS FOR MY HOMEWORK
yeeeeeee, sick. But what about curly hair? how to show these shapes?
It would be the same for curly hair. Focus on the bigger shapes and values first before getting into all the details. The main difference is that the texture will be different and depending on the texture it won't flow the same. Typically, curly hair is bouncier.
I recommend watching Anatomy Quick Tips: Hair by Sinix Design. He explains this really well.

@@kalkdog8809 best way to explain it!
@@silkie5148 just like they said, also make some flyaway strands that just curl into weird little bits, it makes it look more realistic

What I really like about this video is that it really shows you the full process. And it also shows you the scale of the image. A lot of instructionals tend to skip or lump together too many steps and it makes the whole thing hard to comprehend.
Or they give you too much detail, to the point that you're learning to replicate a particular image.
But this gets the good points, and tells you why they're good.
I think I should reconsider continuing in this major :')
bro same 💀
Mood lmao 💀
Whatever art you gravitate to, just do what you feel is right with it. In being in touch with the piece it is then an extension of yourself, it is then your art
No an art major is the most useless sadly
@@knoobiez how? So many animators are needed especially in this modern age 💀 needless to say there are so many things that art/graphics/design majors are needed for
This has got to be some of the most useful advice for hair I have ever gotten. Completely changed my view on drawing hair!
There's no "wrong way" to draw something. As long as YOU like it it's a success
Exactly. I hate when those art tip channels say "you're doing this wrong and that wrong" etc. Not every style is realism, if "spaghetti hair" is something you want in your drawing then go ahead, draw away
What makes a good artist is being able to draw what you want to draw. A lot of people want to draw hair well, in a way that makes sense in real life. Of course it won't matter if you WANT to draw spaghetti hair, but if you want to draw hair right there _are_ right and wrong ways to do it.
@@Atomas69 understandable, there are lots of different styles of drawing hair or just anything in general so these videos are helpful, but some of them just rub me the wrong way. It all just depends on what style you're going for
@@fishwithknees yeah. It's about finding the right "art tip* video from the right artist to get what you need. In this case it's a general guide to hair. Most artists start from the base level of understanding realism in order to scale down to stylization to draw stylized art properly
Nope
I'd love to be able to draw like this

Totally loved the drawing of the kid! It conveys a whole lot of emotion and sweetness.
Oh thank god someone righted this wrong; my art teachers taught us to do the scratchy spaghetti hair method, so my hair has always looked super gross 😅, thank you!
Why? Aren’t they art teachers?
I just think they should know not to do that...
My teacher is also really incompetent
And when I want to cirrect her, she sends me to the principle(Which is just acting like she's mad at me)

There’s not a wrong way to draw anything, just different
YES, THANK YOU!!!! The hair that I draw isn’t realistic but it’s not the spaghetti looking hair, it’s kinda like mini-character hair. This channel ticks me off for saying that it’s wrong, art can be in many forms.
no he told you how to do it MORE right (especially it's realistic drawing)
@@tanjiroukamado874 but he said it was “wrong” so I guess he chose the wrong set of words though
These tutorials are for people who want to study art or pursue it professionally. Yes, art is about expression and fun, but there is an academic side to it. You will get clowned on *hard* if you try to pull this in a profesisonal/academic artistic environment.
The "theres no wrong way to do it" is not a good mindset if you're trying to learn. By all means, do whatever you want to personally, but that's just not a viable attitude in a more professional setting.
@@perfidiousprophet that’s not necessarily true, because there are plenty of shows and movies with so many different styles of how hair is drawn
I love the fact that you took your time to just slow down, and help everyone else slow down as well to at least absorb this information
I'll draw hair the way I want, you draw hair the way YOU want. It's self expression!
This guy makes drawing look so easy
There's no wrong way to draw hair, or anything for that matter. All you artists out there who have people telling them their doing it wrong, dont listen! Do it however you want, there's not right or wrong!
As I say depends on the artstyle and I will keep saying it.
There are wrong ways if you're trying to draw realism
Well this is for people who wanna learn
Thanks i have been struggling on drawing hair im just gonna keep practicing till i master it
"Don't draw bad, draw good" type of tutorial
Want me to repeat?
insted of drawing 700 strokes
draw 7 and color the dark parts.
got it?
That’s just a lazy excuse
Get better instead of complaining and unwilling to learn
This is so insanely cool, I never knew
It isn't wrong its just different. Art is the expression of oneself and/or the inspiration they grasp from within themself or from the influence around them. Scribble hair is totally valid
It's wrong if you're aiming for more realistic hair. If "scribble hair" is what you're aiming for then go off and do that but its odd to act like there arent people who DONT want to make "scribble hair". If this video doesnt apply to you why click on it?
Spaghetti hair is about as valid as the bs argument that "art is subjective"
No, art is not subjective as art can be boiled down to a list of techniques and qualities. You can tell the caliber of the artist based on their art.
Spaghetti hair is a technique used by novice artists who don't know how to properly draw hair. So in the same way, Spaghetti hair *IS NOT* valid, unless as the previous guy said: that is the desired effect.
I understand not wanting to tell people the art they enjoy is bad or not wanting to call art you enjoy yourself bad, but some art just is. Acting as if there's never been a bad musician, movie director, author, etc is just sheer stupidity. You wouldn't see a 5yo's crayon drawing on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel.
@@JayArr96 I would still say art is subjective but in a sense of what meaning you find in it or what idea your expressing.
Techniques and guidelines (not rules because it sounds ridged) are ways to make or improve a desired affect or for more efficiency. Like with a full illustration you have to know where your light sources are coming from to apply shadow properly.
This has helped me so much with my art assignments. I really cant thank you enough
This is probably the main thing that popular art influencers get completely wrong. There is no incorrect way to draw something.
Right, that's not the way I draw hair
This is for people learning to draw realistic hair
Except there is. There are objective rules to art but art is completely subjective. You can choose to disregard those rules if you want but those rules still exist.
thank you this is actually pretty useful

Wowww
A lot of people talk about hands being difficult but at least I can wrap my mind around hands. With hair I just can comprehend how it's pulled off
The waffle house has found its new host
So I recently started to learn how to draw, and I got to say that these 2 sentences: 1. "Hair has form and mass", and 2. "groups of hair wrap around and inherit the same major light pattern's as the round head underneath" gave me a sort of enlightenment or epiphany you could say lol, I kind of had to pause for a minute and evaluate my previous knowledge and thoughts I had about drawing and shading hair... For a person that only started drawing recently, hair has been one of the hardest things to learn, and I realised that I personally viewed it as a separate peace that has no connection to the head/ body, so It should have a separate shading view... I feel stupid af now cause that made no sense, so thank you for this
The Waffle House has found it’s new host.
lol. I laughed so hard picturing myself doing exactly what he demonstrated in the beginning 😂 “scribbling away”
That's actually a really cool way to look at it! Maybe I should try that for a style I've been looking to master!
Truthfully when I was first drawing hair I never did the strands. Just liked how fluffy they looked
Everyon have their own style and this is what makes art more beautiful, at the end it is a piece of art

Why these guys are so strategic about everything about art
becouse if you want to have an art job you will have to create artwork to a specific date. If you want to go to art school you will have to fill an assignment to a certain time.
Why does the hair he draws more real than my hair would ever be 🫣😶
I have never thought to just draw head shape and fill it with only light angles and no facial features. That's actually a genius way to learn proper realistic lighting. New tech acquired!!
Almost like learning to shade a circle but for faces.
Yeah alright. I will try this!! I actually did try this before seeing this video. It was cool. 😄
This made a lot of sense and was really cool to see. I still couldn’t do it though.

But remember: Art is not about rules, its about fun and expressing yourself, and if you having fun and enjoyment drswing hair the " wrong " way, dont listen to haters, do what you want
Theres no wrong or right way drawing or painting is creativity
But if you want a certain design, you need to take a certain approach.
