A lot of these games I really fell in love with but never got to play them when I was a kid, I discovered them in my 20's but you got it right on every account here. I really loved Startropics and even the gimmick with the piece of paper you had to submerge in water to reveal the word you needed back then, they changed it for the nes mini version though. Kabuki really reminded me of Sunspot's Batman and I never heard of of until I was 30 and I really had fun with it. I was really happy you mentioned Felix because I rented it as a kid and loved it but as a kid, we couldn't find it anywhere and I wasn't able to play it again until emulation was possible and eventually I got the cart of eBay, I actually really like Felix a lot. I could go on with every game you listed but those were the main ones to me I wanted to comment on
As soon as I saw the title of the video my personal hidden gem came to mind, Xexyz. And here you had it on the list. It was a $20 title I bought from Target with some cash I got for Christmas.
On one more note, Startropics 2: Zoda's Revenge was a fun game too, I was kind of baffled that the game got a sequel on the NES but the series ended there and they never went back to the series or even the characters for any other media for like amiibos or anything.
Willow is an underrated gem for sure. I also always loved Legendary Wings, P.O.W., Micro Machines, Crystalis, little Nemo, Bionic Commando, Kick Master, Goonies 2, and Shadowgate were some lesser touted but awesome games for nes.
"what's my name?... Mike Jones, Mike Jones." I loved star tropics such a fun little game. Clash at demonhead, tombs and treasures, legacy of the wizard... There were tons of hidden gems. Every kids collection of games was unique. Your buddies usually had some odd game you never seen anywhere else.
lol yeah i thought about the rapper when i was writing the script. yeah everyone had the same like 5 games, the marios and tetris but after those few staples everyone's collection varied because no one knew what was good or what sucked lol
@@DancingwithGhosts did you ever consider doing a show with Rex Viper?...I'm being serious..you know your band could open the show and upstage the Vipe and then you can sit back and watch the carnage...just a thought
Nice list! Heres a few more action adventure gems...Krions Conquest, Conquest of the Crystal Palace, Tom Sawyer, Captain America and the Avengers, Arkistas Ring!!
Some of my faves are Wizards and Warriors,Bad Dudes, Bad Street Brawler. I just picked up Mighty Final Fight and Shatter Hand. Next, I think I'm gonna get Vice Project Doom. Felix, the cat must be one of those rare, expensive ones. I was at a retro store recently. They were asking over $100 for it.
They weren't hidden gems but I had Robocop, Robocop 2, TMNT, TMNT 2 The Arcade Game, Friday the 13th, The Addams Family movie game (there was a cartoon version as well but I never played that one), Batman Returns, Beetlejuice, Darkman, Dick Tracy, Ghostbusters, Predator and Swamp Thing. The greatest part was that I got all of them at either Yard Sales or Pawn Shops for under $10 each. What a time to be alive!
@@DancingwithGhosts Yeah between Dick Tracy and TMNT Arcade they were the ones i played the most. The Beetlejuice game was really easy, I beat it in about 2 hours.
All games you mentioned are great. There are all kinds of games I could mention or repeat off your video but some that I really really like: - Gremlins 2: The New Batch (Has some of the best music on the NES, those evil sounding themes still give me goosebumps) - Faxanadu - Gargoyle’s Quest II - Bucky O’Hare - Ghosts ’n Goblins - To be fair it’s not hidden by any means but it gets overlooked thanks to it’s beyond brutal difficulty.. yes I have beaten it twice in row to see the true ending. Was it worth it? Most likely not. (I have this masochistic love/hate thing for this whole series)
As appealing as the hidden gems are, usually I like the obvious stuff more though. But, some cool curiosities are Stinger and City Connection. These are basic but fun simple romps. I like weird games too for their own sake even with flaws, but for me a lot of them I don't want to play again. But, hell, I can start Metroid and some other games with a lot of passion and interest again and again. Exodus does look a little fun actually!
@@DancingwithGhosts it's essentially the same game but with better graphics & sound. I need to hunt it down so that I can challenge you at one of our random encounters at Eclipse 🤣
That Kabuki game had to be from the same devs that made Batman for NES. It looks and plays incredibly similarly. The sewer level almost looks like a direct copy/paste. The enemy damage visual and sound effect is also exactly the same, and you could wall jump in Batman as well. I'm sure it was fun, because Batman fucking ruled
umm... james did beat street fighter, and his biggest complaint in difficulty was the timed boss rush at the end, soooo maybe you should actually finish the game before criticizing someone who has?
I have to add some other hidden gems: Gun*Nac Whomp'Em Cowboy Kid The Krion Conquest Conquest of the Crystal Palace The Guardian Legend Destiny of an Emperor Journey to Silius
@@DancingwithGhosts And also all of your Rex Viper videos. They are so on point, you nailed it. Those screenwave dudes are a pain in the ass and hurt the channel so bad. Nobody wants to see them. I also produce music for 12 years now, and i know that you need a LOT of time and practice, like you said. You need to pour your heart and soul in it. But they just shat out what they had as soon as possible because they thought the huge following from James would like it either way. It sound sooo bad! 😭And the idea isn't even original.
