    I've met Sam a couple years ago and had a workshop with him. He demonstrated a thunderous G# at the top at 9 in the morning as part of his warm up routine and proceeded to sing the entire Sarastro aria an octave lower.

    My favorite number from an opera filled with beautiful numbers. Alidoro, the 'fairy godfather' figure of Cenerentola, might be seen by some as an ungrateful role, the lion's share of basso glory seemingly going to Dandini and Magnifico. This aria proves them wrong. And when it is sung so magnificently as here, there can be no question of his preëminence. Thank you Manoli!

      One of Rossini’s best creations, and that’s saying something.

      @@manolis.799 Yes indeed. I feel Cenerentola often gets overshadowed by Barbiere, and that's grossly unfair. They are both works of genius, and should be equally respected and enjoyed on the world's stages.

    Beautiful Manoli thank you. In listening to your channel my appreciation for Rossini has grown immensely. I always thought, like Jason mentioned, of Barbieri and not much else. Now I know better. I'm wondering, is it not very unusual to have a bass also be able to do baritone roles?

    • @manolis.799
      @manolis.799  Год назад +3

      This is still a bass role, the more baritone role in cenerentola is Dandini. Some roles have been sung by baritones and basses like Scarpia, Escamillo, and even Rigoletto (Justino Diaz has sang it). But these instances are usually pretty rare. There’s also some roles that are sort of “in between” like Wotan or the villains from the Tales of Hoffmann. And some baritones have sang bass roles, like Don Giovanni (fairly common), Figaro, or Leporello.

      @@manolis.799 Thank you Manoli. I knew this was a bass role. I was asking because I was reading in the comments about his ability of being able to sing both parts and thought it must be a really unusual talent, as you have confirmed. Thanks again.
