It's all very well to show us China's influence in the European Union, but the foreign country with the most influence is still the United States.
They've been spying on us for decades, Spain has expelled US agents from its territory, they have enormous control over data with their data center, they can legally collect data from EU citizens by law, they fight us in an "economic war"...
So I think, to be fair, it would be useful to show us this part of foreign influence.
And don't be naive, the US is trying and will try to push us into a conflict against China, even if it's not in our interest. As Europeans, we don't need to be in conflict with China, we need to be cautious of all foreign countries, but we can have relation with everybody, it is in our interests.

Serbia is unsurprising but Serbia represents a unique case. It is Russia's best ally in Europe, more so than the current Orban regime in Hungary. At the same time, the bombing of 1999 enabled the warming of Russo-Chinese relations since they both see the West with deep resentment. In many way, Serbia helped healing Russia-China relations and become synonymous to the strengthening of this tie. That's why most of Europe do not trust Serbia.

    • @GwainSagaFanChannel

Serbian-Chinese relations go much, much deeper. The main difference is between the "Divine Right of Kings" and "Mandate of Heaven". I will simplify, the Chinese believe their rulers must come organically from the people (grassroots support), and the whole of Europe was ruled by 12 families of Germanic origins. This includes Vindsors and the Romanovs. The Chinese have a sort of "destiny" connected to the individuals ruling them (this includes emperors and communist leaders alike). Serbian aristocracy came from the people, they gave us freedom, and by merit (and destiny) they became our "aristocracy". Only Serbian aristocracy did not come from "bluebloods" mentioned above. The mechanism of picking leaders and of becoming a leader are the same in China as they are in Serbia. We had a lot of Hajduks and Uskoks (rebellious gangs under Turks) and they all placed their destinies in the competence of their leaders. It was always organic, never by rules and descent (privilege). For us (Serbs and Chinese) ruling is a combination of destiny and merit. Something slaveowners, slave traders, and aristocratic tyrants, uncountable to the "laws of the regular people", will never understand. That is our connection. And that is why we, the Serbs are "The nail that sticks out". The VIRTUE of Plato and Aristotle survives only in Serbia, China, and Ancient Greece and that is not something Anglo-Saxon imperialists like. We have the moral high ground. They propagate antiquity as the origin of Western Civilization, but they destroy everything a VIRTUE means in their conduct with the world. Let's not mention inheritance in Western politics. Kissinger is a Mayer (Rothschild by blood), and Stoltenberg is the son of Torvald. There are many, many examples of inheritance of privilege in the West. Undeserved privilege. Dinastical rulership of "the people or the sheep".

In the Chinese Mandate of Heaven, you must be righteous and moral. If you are not, then the Mandate will be taken from you. This would be droughts, disease, instability, and war. That would show the people that the rulers lost their Mandate and encourage the people to dispose of the bad rulers. That is how all the dynasties in China changed. It is so today. If enough "instability" and "bad luck" hits the country and the people, it is because of the mistakes of the Leadership. That is why in China they censor their "bad news" so much, and promote harmony and balance. There was this old Yugoslav movie "Valter defends Sarajevo". Back in the day, it was shown every year in China for holidays, just like we had "Home Alone" for Christmas on TV. In that movie, Valter (the partisan saboteur) is untracable. The nazis can't find him. In the end, the German officer says something like: "No wonder we can't find Valter, this city is Valter. Everyone is Valter". And that, my friend, is The Mandate of Heaven. If rulers are bad, the people start working on a change. I mean in all modern Western conduct, there are no obligations in treaties and compromises, there are only gains and privileges. The rules-based international order is just the latest example, but in colonialism and slavery, the idea is the same.
In Serbia and in China, you can lose your privilege to rule the people. And people will show you their position. COVID lockdowns lasted two weekends in Serbia, then the MOB gathered in front of the parliament, and almost trashed the building, and there were no more lockdowns and vaccines were not mandatory. You can see this in all cultures. Some accept the rules even when they are unjust and some can't accept injustice and will give you a piece of mind. There are obligations attached to privilege.@@Dazzlefisher

The divinity of kings in contrast explains that the king is appointed by God (an archaic agreement between the church and the ruling gang of a country to give the gang more legitimacy than they actually have) and anyone who rebels against this order is a demonic agent of the devil. This is in stark contrast to the mandate of heaven where rebellion is not just beneficial but a moral duty of the Chinese citizen. This is why China's civil wars are extreme and why out of the top 10 wars of the highest civilian casualties in the world, historical Chinese civil wars account for like 8 of them along with the first two world wars. What the original commentator failed to mention is that Serbia's apparent similarity to this system is not because Serbia naturally or organically came across it. Medieval Serbia had the divinity of kings right throughout all of it's history (even despite the influence of the Byzantines who greatly influenced Serbian culture and civilization but apparently not it's succession laws) just like most other European Kingdoms did at the time. Serbia also doesn't really have a republican history. Venice, Novgorod, Genoa and Lubeck as medieval republics all were closer to the idea of the mandate of heaven than Serbia ever was. The reason why it appears so now is because all of the Serbian nobility essentially ceased to exist after approximately 400 years of Muslim Ottoman rule. So when Serbia had it's revolution in the 19th century the only leaders they could possibly pick were from the peasantry. Basically what I'm saying is that Serbia was forced to start over while everyone else already had established power structures.

_Most of Europe doesn't understand China, while most of Asia doesn't understand Russia._
That's the only possible explanation for this. There are still people in Europe thinking that China can be trusted against Russia (notably the likes of Georgia, Romania and even Poland), and likewise, a lot of Asians still think that Russia can help them against China (especially in India and Vietnam). This explains the huge level of political mistakes we are seeing in both continents.

I have a deep mistrust of any superpower trying to build dependent hegemonic states. China's Belt and Road is a perfect example of this. Sure, the US has been doing this for a century and yes, I mistrust them and their motives too. And the EU is no better despite being smaller than both. It may seem like a good deal now but the reality is that these are just shackles made of gold.

Dude that is what USA and EU are trying to do. China has trade relations with Serbia and Hungary but that doesn't mean that other powers don't have any influence in Serbia and Hungary or that Serbia and Hungary are dependent on just China. For example Serbia trades with EU as well and imports gas from Russia and Hungary is member of EU and NATO witch means it is aligned with USA and imports gas from Russia. In other words neither Serbia nor Hungary are dependent on any one power but are building relations with multiple and no one has any problem with that except USA and EU.

It's two bears fighting over the same salmon and we're supposed to think that one bear is better than the other rather than reject the legitimacy of the bears in the first place.

And Hungary does say no. Well Hungary always said no in her 1100 years of existence whenever someone wanted to control her. So any power must be very stupid if they expect anything else. There is currently a massive (Size of manhattan) piece of privately owned land being sold in Svalbard to the highest bidder. China having signed the Svalbard Treaty and aiming to gain more influence in the arctic is a very likely buyer. Russia already got a town in Svalbard named Barentsburg (Barentsburg's Coat of Arms is one of the most unique, beautifully symbolic designs I have ever seen) and is most likely not interested. The US could be interested if it would mean they could block other countries from purchasing it as well as having more of a presence in the arctic. The Norwegian government knows about the sale and has so far, for some reason, not been interested in buying that land.

You should remember China is also an empire, with much of its land today built from past conquest. If combining all dynasties of China (mainly Han, Tang, Yuan and Qing), it had the fourth largest empire in the world's history, spanning from the Central Sea to Sakhalin, from Mongolia and Manchuria to Vietnam and Burma. The free world being divided and disunited toward common threat by Russia and China served Xi a lot, that's why he visited a divided France, before settling account with pro-Russian Serbia and Hungary.
