    To all that complain about the music : the video is from April 2014!!! That was 6 years ago... look at most RUclips channels with videos that old the further you dig back the lesser quality content you’ll find. I agree the music for this video SUCKS but their is nothing I can do about it. With that said thanks for the engagement on the video, I do listen to y’all complain and that’s why I have changed the music in future videos.

      At least you own up to it I can respect that. But I ask why music at all? Aren’t the baseball clips of it good enough? Most people who watch these vids love the game enough to be more than entertained by the vanilla clips without music. Just sayin

    I grew up watching this guy pitch, he closed the first Braves game I ever went to at Turner field, and I remember him getting a standing ovation every time he took the mound. The man is an Atlanta Braves institution.

    I'm a massive Braves fan from the UK. When I started following baseball in 1990 I went with the Braves. I idolised Smoltz, he was the king for me. I even got a friend to get me a Smoltz jersey. But Atlanta had one of the greatest, if the greatest top three pitching rotation in baseball history. Then to see all three plus Chipper get on their first attempt shows just how much of a dynasty they were.

    As much as I liked Glavine and Maddox, I LOVED John Smoltz the best when the Braves were winning all those NL East titles. He was a power pitcher with that un-hittable slider. I also enjoy listening to him when he provides color commentary during the post season games on Fox.

    Any other team besides the Yankees, Dodgers, and Mariners he is #1 starter. Think about it he's behind Maddux with his pinpoint accuracy and Glavine because he is a lefty. Went from starter to closer and back to starter with the Braves. Best power pitcher of the three.

    Didn't have the most strikeouts, didn't have the lowest era, didn't put the most velocity or movement on the ball, so why does anyone care about this guy? Why is he so beloved? Because his superpower was winning.

    Too much elegance from Smoltz!
    Part of the best rotation in history: Maddux, Smoltz, Glavine, Millwood and other.
    Too bad he retired struggling awfuly with Boston and St Louis, anyone could hit him and lost important games.

    • @mightbegenius

      I prefer the Maddux, Glavine, Smoltz and Neagle rotation. Neagle had a 20-5 record in '97 and almost made it a 4 cy young rotation. Braves also had back to back 100+ win seasons with Neagle in the rotation.

    What kind of pitcher was John Smoltz?

    • @mightbegenius
      @mightbegenius 6 лет назад +1

      Mid-upper 90s fastball, great slider and splitter. Also, like his teammates Maddux and Glavine he pitched intelligently.

    • @MrBendylaw
      @MrBendylaw 3 года назад

      The worst kind, if you're a batter and the game is tight. Nasty high 90's heater, disappearing slider and sinker, and a few other pitches he'd show you once in a while just to mess up your day. And lived for the big game.

  • @陳柏安-q5k

      Don't forget the occasional quickpitch sidearm heater and even rarer knuckleball. I used to live for those pitches freezing up batters. Smoltz was a real bastard of a pitcher.

    smoltz first ballot hall of famer is a sham. smoltz never in his career could stand in the shoes of Orel Hershiser from 1984 to 1989. Even after arm trouble Orel was at least as good or better. Blyleven, Sutton, others had to wait years and smoltz first ballot, come on. sports writers today are idiots. HOF is a sham

    • @MrBendylaw
      @MrBendylaw 4 года назад

      Smoltz showed up in big games. Postseason and regular. Put in work. Arm surgeries, setbacks, closer duty, return to starting....dropped filthy pitching when things got tight. The man's a Hall-of-Famer, whichever way he gets in. My favorite game of his is when he met Hideo Nomo in Nomo's Rookie of the Year season; look that one up to see how Smoltz handles his business. Watching him drop sliders and splitters, and the occasional knuckler, on batters in a 3-2 count was a real pleasure.
