" ...let me have my win here" That bolt breaking off is the same sh@t always happens to me. Appreciate you showing those parts, that's the real stuff. Part of why I love your vids.
Hey Sam, Love the 2500 Sport. I have a silver 2001 Dodge 3500 Sport with 189000 miles from Florida. New transmission, rear disc brakes, new front end, Airdog fuel lift pump and a new grey carpet (came with gold carpet). Leather interior driver and passenger power seats. Thìs Spring I'm going to put Optima batteries and a new stereo in it. I live in Canada and I have not seen a nicer 2nd gen than mine in Eastern Ontario. I appreciate learning about my truck from you. Gorilla gloves in bulk.
I am in the process of restoring a single cab long box 2001 2500 24v with the nv4500. i had to do full frame up restoration because its a Wisconsin truck (RUST RUST RUST) bed patches full rocker and cab corner replacement along with all the body mounts its been a pain in the rear. i am glad you show the parts that break and make it a pain because my whole project has been nothing but ups and downs. keep up the good work, love the videos!
So, after watching your other manual swap video I manual-swapped a G56 in my 98 24-valve. It does have a check engine light, but I didn’t change the ECM or PCM and it runs great. One of these days I’ll flash it or seap the ECM. I did the swap 30K miles ago. As for the brakes, Dodge did a lot of changes to the axles for 2000 and so 2000-up are 3rd Gen brake swappable. Dodge also went higher offset, wider axles, something you may have noticed playing with different wheels and rims. Glad to see you ditched the automatic shifter day one. I did that too, wasn’t gonna keep it on there a while like you did on your 12 valve!
Just finished swapping ball joints, bearing hubs, front axle U-joints, track bar, drag link, sway bar links, and upper and lower control arms in my 2006 3500 Laramie. And still working to finish the ground up rebuild on my 1996 12 valve long block and p-pump.
I have a cherry mint condition very low mile unicorn holy grail 2nd gen. 2002 24v HO 56 block, 6 speed manual, odometer is hovering right around 100k . It had i only 79k on it 8 years ago when i bought it from the org owner. But i totally agree with you, the holy grail trucks are a ‘01-‘02 24v HO 6 speed manual. They have the best of the best, everything bigger and stronger with several years of revisions obviously. The dana 60 front axle doesn’t have the vacuum CAD crap, you dont have to worry about 53 block or the KDP (but should still tab it!) The best trans is hands down the nv5600, the earlier years like you mentioned had some input shaft issues, which they foxed by enlarging the input shaft from 1 1/4” to 1 3/8”, its something to keep in mind when looking for a nv5600 for a trans swap, you dont want the earlier ones with the smaller inputs, they can be swapped out, but full rebuild. The tcases were bigger and better, the np241DHD, dhd stands for diesel heavy duty! The smaller tinnier DLD tcase, DLD standing for diesel Light duty! And there’s the big huge dana 80 rear axle with disc breaks! Everyone always wants to swap to a manual transmission and rear disc breaks! The dana 89 is huge! 11.25” ring gear! Massive 37 spline shafts. Mine has the factory LSD. Some trucks were just open. The vp44’s aren’t bad just as long as you run a FASS system. Plain and simple, that vp44 will run for ever, what ever you throw at it, just as long as it has a steady constant supply of cool filtered fuel just like any diesel engine needs. I really want to do a p pump swap. That would be the ultimate holy grail upgrade would be to do a p pump swap. Im jot far off from Doing it. I wanted to wait till the truck had 100,000 miles on it before i started to go crazy on things. Like i said it only had 79k on it when i boughr ir from the old man one owner truck 8-9 years ago. It was cherry, all stock, mint inside and out, garage kept and meticulously maintained, Colorado truck, so no salt! I want the all mechanical injection, no wires, foot connected directly to the injection pump like how you said it! I want the full on crazy carls p pump conversion kit, all the billet parts, billet front adjustable cover, tappet cover, valve cover, the works. No expenses spared. That IMO would make the absolute holy grail truck, and I’m so close! Lol Nothing better than a p pumped 24v 6 speed Manual. Ive had 6 first gen 12 valves over the years, all except one have been getrag 5 speeds, and all except one have been 2wd. All rust free straight bodys. You gotta think here in Colorado they dont dump salt on the roads by the truck loads. And heck here on the western slope it hardly ever snows except at higher elevations. The last first gen i had was a ‘93 club cab 2wd dually 5 speed getrag with only 138,000 miles on it, i gave $1000 for that truck, and pulled it out of the hay barn on 6 flat tires lol.
Sam those gorilla gloves that you wear are pretty legit! You built a badass sport truck man. Good choice on the chrome wheels, they look sweet with the red color. I hope you keep that truck around the channel
Manual swapped my 07 5.9 truck back in the day and had a smarty on it. Got a manual file from them and never had any issues what so ever. Only wiring I had to do was ground the neutral switch and had to tap a wire for the reverse switch/lights.
Sam those gorilla gloves are pretty legit!! I’ve done most of the same work your doing but still love to watch and see if there’s better ways to work on these things! Looking forward to the next one!
I have 07 Dodge 2500. I auto manual swapped this past summer with NV5600. To prevent check engine light I did have to use a smarty tuner file. After installing the tune the auto gear on the dash went away along with check engine light. But the tune does cause the auto wiring harness to become inop. The diesel company that installed the manual wired the reverse to the harness and worked until I tuned it to a manual and reverse light stop working. My solution was a rocker switch in the cab.
I’ve got a 98.5 dually 4x4 nv4500 and almost done restoring it will be drivable by the end of the month and will only need painting rebuilt everything myself with no corners cut anywhere
My buddy and i threw a new clutch in my 03 nv5600 last weekend and did the same thang, snapped a pressure plate bolt but luckily a drill bit and ez out and 20 minutes we were back at it.
Awesome vid. And yeah dude I had a 95 12 valve 5 speed that I absolutely loved and even traded it to a boy back in highschool for his 94 Mazda B4000 5 speed (ford ranger knock off) and have regretted it ever since. That was 13 years ago when I was 17. Course I was making Min wage I couldn’t really afford to keep diesel in it but boy do I wish I still had that truck!
Sam those gorrila gloves are legit! Love the truck hope you keep this one! I have a soft spot for this era of dodge! I had a 97 12 valve nv4500 4by (bubba) loved the truck I bought it from my brother he had for like 15 years. The body was falling apart and I decided to do a cateye cummins swap. Bubba was a doner and it worked out perfectly! Still kinda miss the ol truck but my cateye is awsome well I think so at least lol
😂 breaking that bolt off had me rolling in laughter. Also I felt for you. Hearing that snap is the worst thing..had two spark plugs snap off in my 2500 5.9 magnum last year. It’s such a pain!! Knew you’d get it, thanks for keeping it in the video. 🍻
I have a 98 12 valve that I’d love to do a G56 swap on but I’m still a little confused on what you’re saying about the wiring to bypass the park safety switch so the truck will crank and eliminate check engine lights.
I have a 2001 dodge 2500 Cummins HO with a nv5600 it has a Dana 80 with 4.10 with 130000 miles and it also has a southbend dual disc clutch , my cousin has a same year truck no HO with a 47re and a Dana 70 rear axle with 3.54 gear ratio with 145000 miles he had to replace his engine recently because the block cracked found out certain engines with the 53 casting cracks so coolant leaks out , my truck so far no problems what so ever and we both bought our trucks brand new
I know the pain bud got a 1991 k1500 Chevy and it’s always one small thing turns into a whole weekend project 😂 simple tune up turns into pulling intake off to replace gaskets
I’m not sure if your gorilla gloves are legit but a vp44 truck idling is! 😂 I’m a die hard 12 valve guy but you can’t beat the sound of those vp44 trucks. Great videos man love the old 2nd gens
Hey Sam, Amsoil Syncromesh s a good choice for the NV5600, have you used/compared it to Redline MTL for these transmissions. Some people go 100% Redline MTL and some go 3:1 Redline MTL to Redline MT90. Any comments are much appreciated, thanks.
on 00-02 axles the uppers have to have in / out moment as the spindle rotates threw an axis curve , no side to side movement tho , they are a stud not your typical ball and socket ball joint , 94-00 axles are better with true upper ball joints to share some of the weight , 00-02 axles are the worst and are lower ball joint eaters cause all the weight is on lower joints
Sam, you’ve got me wanting a red sport like this one. Also check clearance section of Home Depot’s near you, they are clearing out those gloves. Some people have gotten them at a penny a pack
Sam check out 5-9 tuners he dose custom tuning with the mm3 touch and from my understanding he write the programing for doing swaps like what you have done
My understanding is easier shifting, if you put lots of miles on working them hard they tend to not like it as well as a nv5600 tho, I have little experience with them tho.
I love your channel, you are the only channel that posts multiple videos on 12v and 24v Cummins. I'm interested in a 01 Ram 3500 Quad cab long bed sport with the 24v and 6 speed that's for sale in Indiana. I was wondering your opinion on the 6 speed newer model 2nd gens prior to making a trip to Indiana.
Ok I’ve never heard anyone prefer the aluminum one over the cast iron one is all. I’ve never driven anything with a g56 so I wasn’t sure if you knew something I didn’t. Love your content by the way!
@@jeremycornelius5702 traditionally g56 is a smoother shift and tighter. Why prefereed them. 5600 is stout and heavy no doubt. But I’ve towed 30k+ with a g56 since 2016 and no problems
Makes sense the newer one would shift better. I did a 4500 swap on my 98 12 valve and my dad put a 5600 in his 96. I’m wanting to buy a 3rd gen with a 5600 but I’ve seen some with the g56 and didn’t even wanna consider it. Getting advice from someone who knows what they’re talking about is hard these days. Thanks.

Wonder how long youll leave the old step brackets on
First shin wack I took them off
What do u do with all of those 47 transmissions?
My first truck was also a 1996 12v with a 5speed it was red reg cab 4wd. I regret selling that truck.
Great video. Sam those gorilla gloves that you wear are pretty legit.
What R-U going to use the transfer case for.

Why did you want to take the 5600 out of the 04 and put the g56 in?
