    Hilah I make this all the time with rice vinegar - I would recommend trying to use potato starch instead. It gives the crust a more light, crispy crunch. Delicious!

    The ingredients are similar to karaage, japanese fried chicken, minus the vinegar. Looks really tasty tho!

    I have just tried it and it tastes incredibly delicious. Crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. And it is super easy and quick to make.

    I like to do this with chicken drumsticks...they already have a "handle". Thighs are good, too....the marinating time is a bit longer, for dark meat, but pays off in the end.

    Hi, Hilah. That chicken looks really gorgeous and mouthwatering. You really are a genius when it comes to cooking. I have a question, do you have any tips on how to be a great cook or baker? Please let me know. See ya in the next vid, Hilah. Byron. ;-)

    • @hilahcooking
      @hilahcooking  8 лет назад +7

      +Byron Chandler Hey Byron! Like anything, the key to getting to be a great cook is to practice a lot! And once you have a recipe really perfected, start playing around with it by adding a small amount of one new herb or spice and see how you like it that way. By trying new combinations in a recipe, you'll probably come up with new ideas to try with other recipes, too.

    You look super cute with the pigtails. Also, with all the sodium in the soy sauce, you probably could have left that chicken out for a few days and still been safe to cook/eat. (Ok maybe not that long but an hour is no big whoop.) Later Hilah!

    This looks delicious! How did this compare to the ginger fried chicken you had in Hawaii? Would you say the batter on their vs yours had more spices and maybe more ginger in it or was it about the same? Just curious. ^_^

    Hilah, I'm trying to eat healthier and I do weekly meal preps to play my week out. Do you think this recipe will last in the fridge for a few days and is coconut oil healthier to fry in than olive oil? Will baking these achieve the same results?

    • @strkszone
      @strkszone 8 лет назад +4

      +Colin Sales If you're trying to eat healthier might I suggest not eating anything deep fried..? It's not healthy regardless of what oil you use. Sure some may be "healthier" than others, but honestly oil clogs up your arteries at the end of the day...so not that healthy for you. Also, define "healthier" are you trying to clean up your diet, or just lose weight. Those two aren't mutually exclusive. Losing weight is much easier to stick to than eating healthier.

    • @Deedee746
      @Deedee746 8 лет назад

      coconut oil is actually very good for you & contains good fat that is healthy & helps keep your arteries healthy but frying is not healthy in general. you should try baking it without the flour, just the marinated chicken

    • @strkszone
      @strkszone 8 лет назад +1

      yep, maybe a drizzle of coconut oil and roasting would be better for you...I'd still keep it to a minimum though. Also, soy sauce is high in sodium, does that go against your "healthy" definition? If so, you might want to look in some other alternatives or not use as much. Diets all really depend on what you're trying to get out of it.

    OK so iv watched so many recipes where they use brown and white suger, what is the difference between the two? :-)

    • @hilahcooking
      @hilahcooking  8 лет назад +1

      +sofie pedersen Brown sugar has a more interesting, complex flavor than white sugar. Sometimes you want that, like in this recipe and in recipes like oatmeal cookies, but sometimes you just want sweetness without all the minerally, fruity notes of brown sugar, like when you're making sugar cookies or white cake.

    What kind of oil do you use for frying? Would coconut oil work?

    • @d3miiig0d46

      yes coconut oil is good..or peanut oil.

    • @d3miiig0d46
      @d3miiig0d46 8 лет назад

      I would say peanut oil would be the best for frying.
