First off that was an excellent video Red Beard Baron! But I must confess that I LOL when you got shocked and even called my wife in for her to have a view. I only say this because about 2 months ago while using my super cheap $35 Chinese static grass applicator I was shocked not once, not twice but three seperate times and the last one, and I kid you not it was in the off position!!! I screamed out loud on all of them but wife only heard the second one. Which worries me for future hobby accidents! And now my real comment is that some how I missed this video and I actually have followed the same path on flocking, real dirt and tile grout that I also learned from Luke Town, Luke APS and Mel the terrain tutor. If I had seen your video first it would have saved me many hours of RUclips viewing. Ahh who am I kidding would have watched them anyway I love this stuff. Keep up the great work.
+Wisco Horndog Tabletop Thanks! I made probably a dozen hills sanding by hand with my hand sander just feet away...felt like an idiot when I finally put 2 and 2 together.
Any reason you didn't just use spackle/filler to smooth over the foam and fill the gaps? Seems like a much easier way to get the exact same effect, mixing the plaster and tearing/shaping the paper towel just seems like an extra (and more messy) step.
This was a really good tutorial. I never tried making plaster cloth from paper towels but it looks easy and quite effective. I learned a lot from this video that I will use your techniques on my own dioramas.
Plaster cloth has really changed the game when it comes to my scenery. I hate carving foam so this is a way to bypass a lot of unpleasantness for me and I think it looks better.
watching your terrain video's and how great they look along with the Saga troops. Has inspired myself to start collecting Saga troops. Currently I play the 40k . Thanks for the inspiration.
You are most welcome! Saga is an underrated miniatures game. There is quite a lot of depth to what seems like a simple skirmish game. I am sure you will not be disappointed.
Definitely agree. Was not completely happy with the color, I had tried the leopard spotting technique and had gotten a very desert esque color. This was an over correction, but I guess i could always go back with a few washes and I'm sure it would turn out better. Thanks for watching!
A suggestion for the cork, don't place plaster into it's crevices, that takes away from the detail, not that it's needed much because the flocking is absolutely beautiful.
+DarkPath Thanks! I placed it on 1/8 inch mdf board that I shoddily attempted to bevel with a hand sander. Yea, I noticed afterwards that some player got on the surface of the cork, tried to brush it off, but it did obscure some detail unfortunately.
Only thing I don't like about this tutorial is the square base. A hill should have a natural shape. And maybe the amount of water in plaster could warp some basing materials.
i really like your videos, but i really miss a bescription of the materials you´re using. As a non native speaker it is sometimes difficult to recognise those.
You are correct I really need to list out my materials used. I’ll have to spend a day going through and adding them to all the descriptions in my videos
"Today I'm gonna show you how to get electrocuted" POP!... I'm sorry I laughed but damn that was funny
It was too good not to include while editing. I gained a healthy respect for that static grass applicator by the end of the video.
Definitely going to give this a shot, outside of the cork part. I really like the effect you got. Thanks for sharing it.
+SmittyM14 Thanks for watching!
All the different colors of grasses and such look AMAZING! One of the best pieces I have seen. Thank you for sharing :D

Great vid! Nice use of the hand sander to round the foam down. Gonna give that a go on my next batch of foam hills!

Looks flocking awesome dude 😎
Thanks man!
The plaster cloth idea is genius!
Thanks! Plaster cloth really has been a game changer for a lot of my terrain.
FINALLY SOME ONE ELSE GETS IT.....WOW First 3 times right to pop pop hand wet with water glue ect i was a good ground

Looks absolutely wonderful!
Appreciate it!
does the alcohol keep the static grass from clumping when you spray the glue?
More for keeping the modge podge from clumping on my terrain as it will dry white.
to get a better paint job on the cork, do several different color washes before washing in brown/black.
Definitely agree. Was not completely happy with the color, I had tried the leopard spotting technique and had gotten a very desert esque color. This was an over correction, but I guess i could always go back with a few washes and I'm sure it would turn out better. Thanks for watching!
Fantastic.
What is the panel you are using for the base?

Yeah that is one regret I have with this piece. I recently rounded the edges but it still looks a bit off.
very nice work
+FLUROBIKE Appreciate it!
Amazing job!
Thanks!

Drybrush the cork!
when u first heard the electricity noise the hairs on the back of my neck stood up
I still can’t get through a project without shocking myself 2 or 3 times. I have nightmares about that static grass applicator.
@@RedBeardBaron Do what I do: wear rubberized gloves!
How to get electrocuted lmfao
How I learned the value of rubber gloves!
