That was amazing how much it changed in the last few minutes when you added the sand and stones. It now looks 100% real and would be a perfect base for any model or game piece. Top Job Mel (As Always!).
Ok...is it just me that found the phallic shape of the foam followed by the references of getting it in deep and such the perfect level of school boy humour? I giggled lots. Thanks Mel! But also seriously, awesome looking terrain and have liked and saved in a hope to emulate myself one day. So thank you again!
I really like that hill. I hope you don't mind but I used it as an example in my most recent Patreon Monthly Column. Lots of goodness to learn from it. :)
john tailby Not really, too many adjustments/cuts to get the rock face looking good mate. It's easier to sort the rockface and then just work out the size of the foam piece to go in it.
Where would be best to get cork bark from? I've seen small pieces of it in pet stores but I was wondering whether there's any cheaper places to find it
***** The woods, mate! Keep an eye out for cleared areas of trees, trails, construction sites, etc. Anywhere trees are coming down, you can find it for free. Aside from that, craft stores I suppose. If you can't find any, don't worry! You can do cliff faces with plenty of materials -- Try doing a heavy stippling with filler (spackle) on rough broken foam and breaking up those smooth spots with rocks and heavy grit. Just keep an eye out for anything rough you could cut to fit a cliff face. Don't spend a fortune on making terrain.
belkozen If you cant find the woods go to a park after stormy windy weather - fallen trees & branches - if you speak to a gardener, treeman might also help source materials - large pine bark is sold in bags at nursery/ hardware.
So I have seen multiple vids using cork bsrk for terrain but looking around I have found it quite expensive. Is there a inexpensive dealer. None on EBay that I see

+TheTerrainTutor where do you buy cork bark?
TheSteven798v2
Netpetshoponline or ebay mate
+TheTerrainTutor do you have a video to make a flock and foliage clump and what the name of the foam you used for clumps
TheSteven798v2
Yep, it's in the foliage playlist and the foam is called composite foam ;-)
Is it easier to make a foam insert first and clad it in bark?

***** Well it only grows in Portugal, so unless you live there, you're pretty much stuck to buying. Netpetshoponline sell it in large bags.
Brilliant but where do u get your foam from Mel?
Minty Moore It's insulation board from B&Q mate
