WICKED COOL!!!
Thanks a lot mate🍺
I recommend that you prime everything with black at the beginning before you start with the actual rock tinting, so that the cracks and crevices come into their own and appear even more natural. You'll see it makes a difference! But other than that it's a nice job!❤
thank's for the info.
Qual o nome dos materiais utilizados
Beware: priming my desert wall for terrarium with black actually ended up very bad for me, as the brightest sandy colors kept turning gloomy greenish, no matter how many layers I applied - it actually reminded me an old airbrush tutorial in which they recommended not to use dark primer for bright colors.
That's a unique and clever method for replicating a rock formation, and the results are fantastic.
Thank you, mate. That's very kind. 😀🤘🍻🍻

Great job and 😅i am amazed about the results that came out❤ wow. What kind of plaster do you use?

Very nice job and great result.
Could you tell me where you purchased the grey sand and grey colored small gravel? Those are both items I would find very useful for my HO mountain scenery. Thanks in advance.
Phil
Jersey Shore Area
First of all, thank you very much for your nice comment, 90% of the materials I use are natural materials. I always collect them from the places I come across during my travels. Fine sand is sea sand, pebbles of mixed sizes are by the stream. The big gray stones are from a parking lot on an intercity road. But I have also bought such products from the "noch" brand before. you can take a look if you want. 🤗
@@NightOwlModelling Thanks for the detailed reply. I will check the Noch brand. There are a few companies that make the small size gravel, but it can getvery expensive when you need a lot of materials. Thanks again!
Phil
@@uptownphotography You're welcome Yes, you are right, they sell very small quantities of products at very high prices. The biggest reason why I cooperate with nature for natural materials. cheers 😊🍺
Grazie mille, amico mio. Fantastico!

What ratios do you use when mixing the water, plaster, and glue. Thanks it looks amazing
Thanks a lot, man. I adjust the mixture by eye, because it depends on the density of the ingredients you use. There are many different types of plaster. The density of acrylic paints varies widely. That's why I was adding water and mixing until it reached a density that could be applied with a brush like the consistency of yogurt. 🍺
Gracias
Wonderful work! What did the hot wire step off screen involve?
Thank you very much I didn't use hot wire. I melted very thin pieces (like paper) with a mini torch. 🍻
How did you to the electrical binders on the pod racer? Those look awesome!
Thank you! I made lighting with Flement LED

it's my pleasure i thank you 🍺
Great piece love it!!! Can you tell me all the paint names you used to help me out make my own diorama🙏🏻
Thank you very much my friend! The brands, numbers and names of all the paints I use are visible in the video, my friend? The yellow color that I mixed with plaster and covered the styrofoam is the cheapest yellow acrylic paint. It can be found at any local hobby shop. If there is a section I want to ask specifically about; If you tell me the minutes and seconds, I will try to help. Cheers... 🍺
Love your videos, what type of glue did you use to secure both styrofoam pieces together and will it last outdide!!!😊😊😊
Thank a lot mate. 😊 I glue it with white glue. a product similar to mod podge. Does it last outside? What do you mean? Where do you plan to use it? 😏✌🍺
@@NightOwlModelling Thanks for the reply. I plan on making styrofoam boulders and adding layers of foam.
@@royrussell8531 You're welcome, I'm glad I could help. You can easily stick it with white glue without any problems. Cheers 🍻
I’d love to have the side with same color or even with ground layer
Yes it would be nice! Thanks for the idea. I will evaluate this idea in another project.
You could have started with a piece of foam cut to the desired angle and stuck the rest of the layers on top? Helps to hide the seams... Trim as desired.
Of course it can be. With many different application methods and materials, it can be studied in more detail and shown more realistically. I shared my experience on how to do it in the easiest, simplest and fastest way. 🍻
@@NightOwlModelling 🍺
Wonderful sharing, nice.
@@creativeline03 Thanks a lot!
If you are referring to horizontal seams created by using layers of styrofoam, this is a good idea because natural rock often has horizontal displacement. It’s actually a clever detail not possible using a single slab of styrofoam. I am not sure about the mounting struts used in the final scene. There is a solution to hide them completely.
Nomes de materiais gerais;
Gesso, tinta acrílica, cola branca, água, areia e pedaços de gravilha
I hate you because of this diorama.. Fantastic.
Hahaha lol! Many Thanks dude 🤘🍻🍻
thank you for this wonderful video. ❤❤❤ What colour will u use if its on asteroid rock?
Thanks a lot mate! For the asteroid, generally dark gray tones and black washes can be made. Dry brushing can be done with black metallic colors for a sharper and metallic look. 🍺
@@NightOwlModelling Drybrush with black metallic!? Interesting! TQ 🙏🙏
You're welcome. it can be a different effect. it's worth a try! 🤔
nice work! how did you made that tube light?
Thanks mate! I used Flexible LED Filament. I bought it from Aliexpress. 🍺
just a newbie question, whats the purpose of adding acrylic paint and PVA glue on mixture( 2:08 ) that u use to prime/cover the "wall"?
Plaster and paint are still porous even after drying, which causes it to be absorbed in the subsequent painting and washing processes. After PVA glue dries, it plasticizes like a thin membrane and stops absorption. Cheers... 🍺
Does any kind of hard foam works for diorama surfaces ?
I have not used any other product other than XPS foam. but I think any formable foam would work. because we paint and texture all of them after shaping!
what kind of cheap acrylic paint did you use?
It doesn't matter, bottle or tube, the important thing is that it's acrylic!
There seems to be a missing step at 1:56... did you burn the surface of the blue foam a bit? it looks a bit melted.
Yes, that's right, I melted it outside because it emits toxic gas. I mentioned this in the subtitle at 1:58 I guess you missed it.
What kind of foam did you use? Telgopor and what else?
Telgopor only as a base. I made all the rest of the rocky texture from XPS Foam. 00:12 Thanks you! 🍺
@@NightOwlModelling xps foam is the same as polyfan, right?
@@nicolassgro7653 No, Xps foam is more dense and hard, it does not bead up when cut like the other foam and can be embossed.
Hola, muy buen video, que materiales usaste?
Hola, muchas gracias.
Hi. It would be great if you could list colors used in your dioramas like
- Vallejo 70977
Hello friend, I show the camera the names and numbers of all the vallejo paints I use in the video. all visible. All the paints I use, except Vallejo, are cheap acrylic paints sold in local hobby shops, there are no numbers! As an example, I have pinned where I show you a few paints below. Cheers🍺
6:44 vallejo
7:51 vallejo
8:17 vallejo
@@NightOwlModelling Thanks i already noted all Vallejo paints
@@bartoszm84 🤗
What do you add to the paint?? Before you started painting.
Acrylic paint, thinned with water.
Acaba akvaryum içinde kullanılır mı.?
Hayır. Kullandığım bütün malzmeler modelcilik hobi boyaları. Akvaryum için kullanılamaz! Suda çözülür! ✌
How did you install in the mounting rods to hold the model up?
For the "Pod" section, when I started the diorama, I made the rocks hard and solid with a mixture of plaster paint. I pierced it with a brass rod and made an "L" shaped piece (so that it would not turn left and right) and glued the part coming out of the back with hot silicone.
@@NightOwlModelling so the plaster is strong enough to not split under the pressure of the brass rod
@@lkw_65 Yes, that's exactly it, of course, the xps foam srofor I use is also dense, so it provides extra strength.
@NightOwl.ScaleModeller You just stabbed the rod through the rock wall?💀 No need for any drilling etc? As I've heard plaster chips easily under impact, and XPS isn't drill friendly
@@lkw_65 The plaster layer is not thick enough to break (you can see it by watching the beginning of the video). No XPS foam is a word used for a type of styrofoam (I don't know if it has a meaning used elsewhere. sorry.)
can you make one of those for a fish tank? safe for fish
Hello, I am a plastic modeler and the materials I use are suitable for this job. The materials to be used for the live fish aquarium should be non-toxic and suitable for underwater stay, unfortunately I do not have information about this subject. the work you have requested is not a subject that I have knowledge of, sorry...
Thanks so much for sharing. I was wondering how to do a high sand dune hilltop for 1/25 Wright Bros. Bi-plane diorama at Kill Devil Hills (formerly Kitty Hawk) NC, this will help. I was wondering what supplier You use for sand/gravel. Again thanks
/Rosemary
Thank you very much, you are very kind. 80% of the gravel, sand and stones I use are materials I collect from natural environments. I bought very few products. There were some types of stones and grass that I bought from the "NOCH" brand, but as I said, I always carry mini plastic bags with me and I always come across useful diorama materials where I go. ☺ I wish you success in your work, thank you.
@@NightOwlModelling thanks for getting back to me and for letting me know about "nature" supplies Take care
@@rosemaryr.long-morgan9704 You're welcome, it's my pleasure. Thank you and take care of yourself. ☺👋
Does anyone have a list of materials so ik what to buy to make this?
All the materials I used in the construction are easily accessible.
- XPS Foam
- White glue
- Cheap acrylic paint
- Sand and gravel in a few different sizes
That's it! Cheers! 🍻
Since the direction of the styrofoam is still visible in some parts of the wall you have two directions present/visible on the rock wall. That is usually not the case when it comes to sedimented rocks… Fault lines may occur, but the the sediment lines are broken up. It may be a minor thing, but still ”a thing” 😇
Yes you are right. thanks for the observation ✌🍺
@@NightOwlModelling I must say that I still liked the over all result 😇
@@peterhansson7967 Thank you, that's very kind. 🍺
Hi, sorry, is the white powder you use chalk or putty? The great work you did was spectacular!!
Thanks a lot! No, it's neither. powdered plaster
Tatooine?
Yeah! something like that
What is wash?
Washes are a fundamental way to add detail to a model. Paint thinned in density, (2 drops of paint 8 drops of water) for acrylic paint. This does not cover the color on the surface but tones it with the applied color! 👍
New to this. Can a dremel tool do a lot of the manual work🤔
Also is an airbrush useful🤔
What do you mean by most manual work?
Of course, there are places where it is used, but you cannot solve every job with a dremel.
Yes. An airbrush is very useful, but first you need to practice with brush painting and washing techniques.
hahahahaha Finger Air
Thank you!
Terrible final diorama presentation.
Things will get better with time...✌
