What a fascinating video! I've always been intrigued by bird calls, and it's amazing to see how Australian Magpies use their vocalizations to communicate with each other over long distances. It's interesting to learn that they have different calls for different situations, such as danger or intruder alerts. The concept of "tribes" in their family groups is also intriguing. It's great to see channels like Wild Home Videos that bring us closer to the wonders of nature and help us appreciate the diversity of life. Thank you for sharing this educational video with us!

These Magpies are quite vocal most of the day and are very much a part of the Australian landscape. We love having them around. Thank you for your lovely comment
I am sure that Magpies had a lot of influence on the culture of people in the past. I can't imagine a day without hearing them. Thank you for your lovely comment Lara
I am not sure but it seems like our Magpie tribe is developing a slightly different language. They are making many more of those shrill calls rather than yodelling like they used to.

Yes they make you feel good, don't they. Lovely creatures. We live in a region which is quite dry. Some years during summer we get no rain at all for up to four months. Our magpies don't like there rain. They always look miserable when it is raining but as soon as the sun comes up they perk right up. They are really smart, and usually after a good rain the worms come up for air. I wouldn't be surprised if that has something to do with their change of mood😁
Einfach schön - sowohl die Lautäußerungen als auch ihre Körpersprache. Ich finde, sie klingen auch interessanter (?) als die Europäischen Elstern. Ein gelungenes Video. Danke dafür.
Yes, and in the springtime, especially during full moon, the magpies sometimes warble during the whole night. But it is a gentle warble, not like their alarm calls, and is actually soothing. I find it is a comforting sound and like to fall asleep with it. Thank you for your lovely comment
it's just beautiful! With a risk of sounding pretentious, watching magpies sing and listening to their beautiful melodies is an absolute joy and a pure pleasure to experience. Btw love your 4k video 😍
Thank you Carmen! They do have quite a range of sounds. We live next to a national park in Western Australia, quite far from the city or any town so the tribe of Magpies which live here have very little contact with Magpies in other places. I cannot say if it is just our imagination but we have noticed that over the last 20 years they have slightly changed their calls. It seems that they use the piercing call much more frequently than they did before. A thought struck us that it might be possible that due to its isolation this tribe of Magpies might have developed a slightly different language to other Magpie tribes far away. Who knows, but it is an interesting possibility. They certainly are intelligent enough to do it. Kind regards and greetings
It is one of the nicest things to hear when you wake up in the morning with a blue sky and sunshine peeking through the window. Thank you for your comment James. I have to say though, I also really like when they sing during the night. They don't often do it, but every now and again we hear them softly gurgling late into the night. We have no idea what causes them to do it. It is quite a different sound than when they call during the day. Kind of soft like a lullaby. We recently recorded them making that sound at 1 AM and have considered making a video about that but in the meantime we have included the audio as background sound for one of our Australian wildflower Shorts "A tiny Midge orchid" which we will publish this afternoon. If that interests you please leave a comment, we would like to know what other people think about that.
That's a nice story Gazza. Yes the Magpies are very clever and like to interact with people. They very quickly respond to attention and are really good at enticing people to give them some food. I mean, how can you resist sharing a snack with a bird that sings for you and looks at you like that, right😁
I have a mob of magpies that hang around my place. I played this through my speakers, and it drove them NUTS. I suppose I shouldn't, but they know it's their territory.
Haha! Yes! We have a tall tree outside our window. I had to use the headphones when I was editing this video otherwise a bunch of them would be on the tree screaming the whole time. Be careful with this. There are Magpie alarm calls mixed in this audio and it is likely to send the Magpies into a frenzy.
My theory is that your magpie tribe is relatively small. We have quite a large tribe at our place so when your magpies heard the audio of so many different birds they felt overwhelmed and did a hasty retreat. It is also quite likely that your place is on the edge of their territory and they backed off to regroup. We have a large open paddock next to our house which is surrounded by high trees. That situation is prime Magpie realestate and we often see them using offensive tactics to repel any would be intruders. I suppose this audio would be useful if you had Magpies that swoop living close to your house and you wanted them to relocate.@@paulmavric887
LoL 🤣🤣😂 I do the same on my phone put it near the window. So the magpie s can hear it. Not Shaw. If thay make a diffrent sound the one s in this vid. Or if all magpie just make the same sound. Well the one hear near my place. Sound no diffrent to the one s in this vid. So not. Shaw if it drive s them. Nuts. Or what. 😊
The speakers on a phone distort some of the sounds and the Magpies can tell the difference. It is likely that they would behave differently if you played it louder and on better quality speakers.@@countrabricksbuildcraze8916
👍 # 64 Wow! what a piercing call they have. I'm betting you can hear this from a fair disttance away. They are a great looking corvid. Well filmed my friend. 👍◕‿◕
That's the thing, they are not corvids. They are related to the Australian Butcherbird which belong to an entirely different species. That is why they have such a range of calls and their call travels a long way. Thank you for your lovely comment Jane
They do have a good strong voice and it seems like it echoes through out for everyone to hear! Thank you for sharing a little bit of these Beautiful Birds life with us!
What a weird and wonderful collection of sounds. Love the guy at the end doing his “Pew Pew” sound effect. Sounds like he’s auditioning for Star Wars 😂
Yea, or an old western😁. Truth is he was distressed because no one answered. The Pew Pew is a bit like the phone ringing. The Yodel is when the conversation begins. Thanks Rocky!
Thank you! W appreciate it very much! You only find these birds in Australia. They are called Magpies but your Magpies are corvids and the Australian Magpies are a completely different species. They are actually related to our Butcherbirds.
Such beautiful sounds. I think birdsong triggers something deep inside. I’ve been slowly making friends with a gang of about 15 magpies that hang around my local park. They trust me enough to come within a meter.. Such a bunch of characters
This is not a theory, this has been scientifically proven. On a subliminal level our brain is listening. Our ancestors evolved living with nature and listening for potential threats was important for survival. Our brain translates harmonious birdsong as "no danger", and absence of birdsong raises the alarm hormones "just in case". There have been many studies which confirm this and there is a lot of literature regarding this available. We have lived on an isolated rural property for more than 30 years and rarely see another human more than once a week. But we see birds and animals every waking hour. If you watch the kangaroos grazing peacefully in the meadow, you can see their ears constantly shifting, listening to what sounds the birds make. When a Magpie makes an alarm call their heads pop up straight away. And if a flock of parrots takes off from the ground they get nervous. Magpies are really very interesting birds. They form very close relationships with people. If you regularly visit your magpies in the park and give them food, it won't be long before they trust you enough to take it from your hand. But please don't feed them bread or junk food, just google what they should eat. Thank you very much for your engaging comment Warren, and best of luck with your new friends😊
Greetings, my dear friend. Absolutely Grandiose job. Did well. Keep it up. Just thumbs up. Thank you. Gorgeous day. Sincerely and full support, composer Yuriy Saliy.
Yes indeed. Lucky the sheep are in the neighbouring paddock so we don't get many blowies😊 But in late spring we always get hordes of little bush flies until the dung beetles get their act together.
Such a lovely family of magpies, they make sure we hear them and their tribes hear their calls. We can easily identify them by their call. Thank you very much! Have a great week!
Stunning film. Fascinating to read how magpies communicate with other groups long distance. Their voices certainly do carry quite far and are wonderful to listen to (and try to figure out what they might be calling about). Our Blue Jays are also sentinels and sound their alarm calls which the other birds and some wildlife pay attention to as well. Thank you for this beautiful and fascinating film! Best regards, Cathy
Thank you Cathy. I have seen a Blue Jay only once. It was a long time ago and I remember I was stunned. I think it was the most striking bird that I had ever seen in the wild till then. Appreciate your great comment and support
They can be quite loud. But you get so used to hearing them we feel something is not right when we don't hear them for a while. Thani you for your lovely comment and support!
I got a few generations of Magpies here....(and yup, they even shit on my car!) They seem to get pissed off when I play these RUclips videos,...I wonder why? 😂
To us they are quite special birds. We see and hear them most of the day. I think we would miss them very much if we lived somewhere else. Thank you for your lovely comment and support!
That sounds like you have seen our Magpies! Yes we would miss them too if we would live in another part of the world. Thank you for your lovely comment and support!
These birds are just heaven,,,there beautiful in everyway i have 3 of them that visit me every single day,,it ws hard at first but once they trust you, they will be forever your friend
Yes that's really true. And if you do something nasty to them they remember it too and respond accordingly😁 They can remember faces and have a very good memory. A neighbour brought us a starving juvenile once which we nursed back to health and this little guy went everywhere with me. As soon as we got up he would jump off his perch and run to the fridge making these feed me noises because he figured out that his food was kept in the fridge. And when I went gardening he would be right there next to me watching for worms that got dug up. And if I was pruning he'd sit on my shoulder. We called him Buddy😊
it's amazing how their calls are quite specific for different situations as what you've said, such as when there's danger, it's different, and that they can communicate over long distance. Truly fascinating including Kangaroos reaction when they hear magpies. have a great day form your new subscriber.
once you befriend a magpie mischief they will warble for feed and mark their territory with different songs, I've also heard my male call his female to come in and the chicks have a distinct call as well. It's fascinating to observe these highly intelligent and curious animals and they give back as much as you give them.
Yes there are many interesting aspects to the behaviour of Australian Magpies. The birds in this video are members of a wild tribe which lives on our property. We live in a rural area and there are no neighbours around. Next to our house is a cleared paddock surrounded by tall trees and this is their territory which they defend vigorously. These birds are not used to seeing humans and they behave very differently to Magpies in the city. Our vegetable garden and sheds are at the other side of the cleared paddock so we walk across several times a day under the gaze of these birds. We do not get swooped. Not even during nesting season. They also warn us when there is a snake or lizard near by. We are convinced that it is deliberate and in their own way they are protecting us. Of course it could be argued that we are just imagining this but in any case it is fascinating to live in close proximity and share the territory of these fierce warriors.
Interesting how my local magpies (north eastern NSW) have different calls. Not total different but I can easily tell. I have never herd them do a long distance call. The ones with a home range that includes my house know me and call nicely when I’m about and are quite friendly. The ones further out say very little and bomb my dogs during spring 🤠
I think ours have developed a unique call. I think it is the influence of the Ring-necked parrots which share their territory. Thank you for your lovely comment
@@stacey7529 I suppose that is in a similar region to Davo. I am just wondering what they sound like and if there is a bird in the region which has a call that has an influence on the magpies like the Ring-necked parrot seems to have on ours, or whether that call is uniquely Magpie.
I spend a lot of time adjusting the levels with the equaliser to get rid of unwanted sound. Most times I can't get rid of the hiss without loosing sound quality, but it is an great improvement to the unedited audio. This video is taking a page from your book. You like to make long videos. We tend to prefer short ones, but it appears that long videos are getting more popular with YT. It might be that more people are watching on the TV than there used to be. So we thought it might be good to do a few long ones. What is your take on the subject?
@@wildhomevideos I've taken a page from your book and I'm making a lot of short videos now but I think longer ones are better when I have a real story to tell and I put my mind to it.
This video I watched at least 100 times , together with my rescued magpie Bella , this is her favorite , especially the bit at the waterhole . she is really actively listening and trying to nip the birds on the screen . We soft released her few month ago , but she comes back to eat mealworms and than we watch birds videos , she is also fascinated by European birds . I must compliment you for the BEST SOUND ever in a tube video . Keep up the good work , brilliant effort , thank you
Thank you, we really appreciate to have someone comment on the audio quality. Coming from a musician is even more welcome. We find it really hard to record a good clear sound of bird calls. Even a slight breeze creates unwanted noises and the mike picks up the sound of an airplane or car from many kilometres away. To tell you the truth, it takes us longer to edit the unwanted noise out of the video than to edit the images. It is really heartwarming to read about Bella. What a great little friend. We nursed a fledgling male Magpie some time ago. He would go everywhere with me. We called him Buddy. When he grew up he would sit on my shoulder and preen my eyebrows. An acquaintance once saw that. His jaw dropped down and he got all panicky. "That's dangerous!" he said all nervously shaking his hands😅He clearly didn't understand how loving that little bird was. It is really good that you still take care of Bella. Magpies belong to a tribe and mostly don't survive long alone if they get separated from their tribe. Other Magpies will attack them if they try to forage on their territory and it takes a long time before a tribe accepts a newcommer if ever, so Bella will need your support. It gives us a nice feeling when we think that there are birds which benefit from our videos so thanks again for letting us know about Bella😊
So beautiful. Their sound just perfect. It is not similar to any magpie I knew. Great sharing. I love when I walked to the water with its reflection and you filmed it so well. Thank you my friend.

You know you are back home in Australia when you wake up to those warbles
Yes indeed. The only other sound that makes me feel like that is the Kookaburra
Or the Sulphur Crested screeching.
OOOHHH Amazing their meaningful sounds and singing and wonderful quality views and captures💥, thanks very much Wild Home Videos
Thank you Ces! I tried to emulate your style and make it a bit dramatic😎

@@wildhomevideos😆
When I saw "long distance call" I was waiting for "local call" and "collect call."
Hahaha! That just shows your age. These days it's "unlimited calls"😁
@@wildhomevideos Thankyou for sharing my friend, a really good story,,cheers

Thank you very much!
it's amazing how their calls are quite specific for different situations as what you've said, such as when there's danger, it's different, and that they can communicate over long distance. Truly fascinating including Kangaroos reaction when they hear magpies. have a great day form your new subscriber.
Thank you! We appreciate your support!
once you befriend a magpie mischief they will warble for feed and mark their territory with different songs, I've also heard my male call his female to come in and the chicks have a distinct call as well.
Wow, a very vocal bird! Very nice shots! 👍🤗
They are very vocal and also quite loud. Thank you for watching our videos😊

Can we officially change the name of spring in Australia to “the attack of the living magpies”
got some good views of the magpies mate
*left a like👍Au💯full watched👀*
Thank you Billy!
I'm in SEQ and my mob have different calls also.
@@stacey7529 I think each family has a slightly different call.
They are saying “My Space” to their neighbours”
@@stacey7529 I suppose that is in a similar region to Davo. I am just wondering what they sound like and if there is a bird in the region which has a call that has an influence on the magpies like the Ring-necked parrot seems to have on ours, or whether that call is uniquely Magpie.
I love the sounds of magpies. Your video and audio is so clear.
❤😊great watching of different kinds of birds thanks for sharing .

Thank you for that! We appreciate your great comment and support
wow thats lovely bird
They have an interesting character too. Thank you for your lovely comment
Thank you very much😊
Absolutely beautiful bird !!! My goodness😊they’re like my kids they can’t be quiet 😂😂😂 god love them tho ❤❤ good video !! I’ll be sure to show my husband ☺️
Thank you Isabel. They do like to sing, that's for sure. Sometimes when it is full moon we hear them in the middle of the night yodeling away😅
Wow fantastic my friend
