Anyone able to comment on what the round cover is for on the right hand side (At the back of the sounder is for?) (It has 2 lines where you can either remove or adjust something)
Thanks for posting this. It's useful. It seems like you could have attached the mount without running the wire behind it. If the wire came out the front that would make it removable.
We usually leave the transducers in place on the boat and as we have a different sounder on our other boat I wasn't worried about being able to remove it. A good idea through for anyone who does want to be able to take the transducer off.
To be honest I can't remember if it was missing or if I just decided to leave it out. It works fine without it so I haven't missed having one installed.
Sorry for the late reply, we have been away doing some filming. The watts aren't the important thing, the real measure you need to look at would be amp hours. Any small maintenance free sealed 12v battery with 5-10 amp hours will do the job. We use a Century 7ah.
Hi, I'm not sure there is an option on the Hook 4. Never used it myself and can't see anything about it in the manual. There is a section on ice fishing but that seems to be about it. We haven't been using the sounder recently because we don't like it at all.
You can bend the ears of that transom mount up a bit, and using a dryer hose clamp, attach it to the bottom of a trolling motor. It is good to have the transducer beneath you when you vertical jig. There is a slot in the transducer that can be used as well, but the further away from the electric motor, the better. This unit is really only useful for showing depth, water temperature and GPS speed. You have to be moving slowly over stationary fish to show the arches. If you are anchored, they will look like blobs, or lines if they move away. They usually do because of the sonar pings.
Any recommendations on a better unit for fish finder rookies? (under $200 USD$) My friend/neighbor has this and we are having a hell of a time getting anything on the screen, Depth seems ok, so I assume it "works". We even moved the bullet skimmer transducer etc so it sits half under the bottom of the Aluminum boat on the right side of transom as the left was getting prop bubbles etc. (14') In between strength ribs etc etc. We did not want it on a trolling motor as that is of course up when using the Outboard (9.9), but maybe we should only use while trolling?
We have tried cheapie entry models of Hummingbird and Navman sounders and both were much better than this thing. Navman would be my pick if they would only fix the cable connection that isn't water tight.
From what I can tell with this sounder you have to select a range depth through the setup. If you select a maximum depth less than the actual depth then s the sounder won't show the bottom. It seems like a very silly idea and is one of the reasons we have not used this sounder since last year.
@@WesternAustraliaNowAndThen thank you sir. The max depth of this hook2 4x GPS is 200 meters base on the setup in the settings. Base on your knowledge about this fishfinder sir, What is the max depth?
@@WesternAustraliaNowAndThen so meaning the 200 meters depth in the manual book is not true? Becasue even in the settings the max is 200 meters. I dont see 80+ in the manual. This is what happen when all the review is base on the demo mode. I never see a review of fish finder in the field that scan above 100 meters deep, always in 20 meters depth
A bit of a tough question because it depends on how long it is in use. On average when it is fully charged it will easily last at least 3-4 days with about 4 hours use each day. Beyond that I can't say much because we have never pushed it longer before re-charging. Our main way of recharging is a solar panel / regulator because we use it most when we are out camping but it can be charged up enough by just hooking it into the car battery system for 30 minutes or so when the engine is running. Another option could be a 12 volt port on a generator if you have one available. Hope this helps.
This was more a general look at the unit before we really had the chance to get out and use it. it turned out to be a piece of junk and we got rid of it so never made another video about it.
Sort of a waste of time period I want to see how the unit works on the water not what comes in the Box and how you installed the transducer on the back of your vote multiple times.
bought one a month ago.total waste of money. its great if you wanna know the water temp or even sometimes the depth, but besides that its junk. Ive always had Hummingbirds.this Lowrance is junk..BTW i bought a Lowrance hook 12 yesterday, didnt work at all...took it back..no more Lowrance for me
On 5-8-23 i called for tech support I was no.18 in line after 30 minutes I hung up and tried to fix my self I called back now no.27 in line after 1.52 minutes i got to talk to some lady that new nothing about hook2 4x after 30 minutes I asked for tech supervisor she hung up on me but called me back 10 minutes later.then made the transfer and now no. 7 in line after 1.45 minutes Im next in line, oh no it's 5pm and they hung up lowrance closed up for the day. If you buy any of their products and have problems I warned you.
Unfortunately we didn't have time when the video was made and once we had used the unit, I didn't bother because I got rid of it very quickly. Not one of the better cheap sounders I have used.
Thanks for sharing it! Great video 🥰

Why do I have fish icons instead of the lines?
Would be part of the way the unit has been configured. Can't tell you much more because we hated this thing so much we got rid of it.

What are the icons for zander pike and perch?
Sorry no idea, we sold the sounder as we really didn't like it at all.
Transducer was missing a part ???? Plastic insert for adjustment
To be honest I can't remember if it was missing or if I just decided to leave it out. It works fine without it so I haven't missed having one installed.
Why is my mine showing black fish icons.
Sorry, I no longer have the unit. We got rid of it because it was not good at all.
My unit shows different fish. Little black looking fish.

hi mate with the Lowrance Hook²-4x GPS Fish Finder how can i change the saltwater and freshwater settings

Nice way to install the electrical fuse. 🤣🤣
Yeah ran out of shrink wrap and was too lazy to go and get some but the unit is long gone now so it wasn't a problem :)
@@WesternAustraliaNowAndThen What do you mean the unit is long gone? Is it no longer working are you sold it or what?
@@Rowen170 sold it.
Just bought one of these. Wish I'd seen this first :-(
Hello
I think you needed to play a bit with the settings at the end there...
We did try and get it working on a later trip but in the end I just decided it wasn't worth mucking around with and got rid of it.
Hi there how do you charge the 12volt battery? How long does it last before you need to charge it?

As an owner/user of this model I would like to say spend your money on something else, this is useless
Agree 100%
Wtf is a sander?
Must be a typo

It was just a first look but having used it and hating the unit, we decided not to bother with any further videos.

What a disappointment. I was hoping to see more than 35 seconds of actually testing of this unit. I could care less on how to install it.😮

Lowrance Epeolatry Rubbish
After using it, I agree 100%. Got rid of it which is why we never made a follow up video.
Absolute Rubbish
Not sure if you mean the video or the sounder so I'll go with the sounder :)
