Glad to hear it! The show really is one of those diamond in the roughs. Isn't as flashy as some of the most popular anime nowadays, but man, the show is such an emotional *elevator* (haha, bad joke).
The thing is, the backgrounds WERE technically drawn by Ghibli. They hired the man who does the background work for Ghibli films to make the backgrounds for Made In Abyss.
That definitely explains a lot! I just don't think Made in Abyss would be the same without those backgrounds. Gives off such an eye-popping, unique aesthetic that gives the entire show it's own flare.
@@thewalkingstick6047 Agree. Recently rewatched it with some cousins and my brother (who hadn’t seen it yet) in a dark movie theatre room with surround sound, and that aspect never felt more important. Just beautiful.

I'm beyond excited for the new season! I honestly thought we would have to wait way longer after the movie for a new season, as I've heard the manga is moving at a glacier's pace and is always on hiatus. But hey, I'm not complaining.
Great review! Not having spoilers is a plus ! Great way to recommend the series... I probably re-watched parts of the series and the movie over a dozen times. The movie, while it has some flaws(why in such a hurry?) it has some really amazing scenes where the action + the monologues/speech + the music build up to something truly special(Eternal Blossoms scene, Ido Front Fight, maybe even the scene after the Stingerhead fight)... I really like how the characters are all in their own "little" worlds even in the most intense moments. At the height of action Bondrewd still tries to discover/observe, Reg still wants to prove his humanity, and Prushka still wants to go to adventures and it is all shown simultaneously, it's a strange but also interesting way to create characters that have this sort of tunnel vision... same goes for Riko who is willing to do whatever it takes to move forward and Nanachi who always thinks about Mitty and the possibility of meeting her once again...
Don't know if I could have put it any better myself. Every single character really does have their own individual goals, and the extent to which they are willing to go in order to see them out is ridiculous (Looks at Purple Mask Guy). All of this, surrounded by the insanity that is the abyss, makes sure that there is never a dull moment. I also loved the action in the movie as well. The action never really stood out to me in the main series, but it felt like we were entering a whole new show once the Ido Front Fight starting to kick into high gear. Has me super excited for where the series goes from here, as I left the movie with even more questions than I had entering the thing, which is pretty impressive. I just pray we get to see the entire thing animated one day!
I recommended this show to multiple friends and they all love it I hope you're enjoying season 2 that's recently come out bro and I can't wait to see you review for season 2
