Nice! I totally agree with a lot of these points. I haven't had a chance to use the Avata yet but it seems that with all the improvements DJI made, it does a much better job at serving its intended market than the original DJI FPV drone did. It's also nice to finally see the general positivity surrounding this product overshadow the FPV purists that tend to judge DJI products from one perspective. Sure, the Avata's not perfect, but it's gonna get a lot of people into FPV.
Thanks Matt! It's truly a fantastic platform for most, and still extremely functional even to the seasoned advanced pilot. I couldn't be more excited to see how DJI continues to shape the industry.
DJI has knocked it out of the park here. Great breakdown, story telling and editing along with some fun clips and a good supporting cast kept me watching until the end. I hadn’t heard of GyroFlow, going to check it out. Thanks again Ryan! Also I think the idea of not having to put together an FPV on your own and more stable batteries make this a win for many who want to just fly.
@@RyanKao had a chance to fly a friends with the goggles and motion controller. A very fun experience. I think it would be fun to fly this but I’d want to spend hours in the simulator getting good as I can only imagine how fast I’d crash it otherwise.
Ok I'm sold I'm heading to the store right now an I'm not joking lol. Ryan as usual you've out done yourself great job. You're the reason I film in 4k 30fps @ 80% it's made a difference for a beginner like me. Wishing you many more blessings in life. 🙏🏽 Keep em coming, D
I fly FPV everyday for work so the Avata isn't for me as far as a production tool. But I still recommend it to new people getting into the hobby. It's a great first quad for someone new to fpv to get their feet wet and get some pretty decent footage as well. Hopefully DJI will keep sorting out the issues this thing has to make it even better.
My friend has bought one of these incredible drones and after getting it all set up he wasn’t feeling well so he didn’t want to go flying it. So he let his son in law and I fly it. He only has the motion controller for it as yet, he’s still waiting for the other to arrive. We fly fpv, he’s much better than I am because of the amount he practices and he has the dji fpv drone so he had the controller for it if he wanted. But he just wanted to try the motion controller, as did I and I can tell you we both actually loved it, it’s so easy to fly. As it’s my friend’s AVATA we both wanted to make sure we didn’t do any damage to it, so we took it easy…for about the first 20 seconds lol. Then we both went into sports mode and had a blast, this thing is a major step into the fpv scene for a beginner and great fun to fly. We both wanted to fly it for longer, but we both respected the other ones desire to fly it. Can’t wait till he gets the fly more combo 😉. And we both forgot to start the recording because we were having to much fun testing it out lol.
Great points in this video 👍. I was in the middle of building my own, but the time it took to build and the value to just start with something one can grow into, I just ended up buying a used DJI FPV combo for half price; and I have to say, it was worth it. As a busy father, work, and casual user, time saving and budgeting is key.
Bought it. Stil flying with the motioncontroller despite having a borrowed pro controller (I prefer the motion controller despite owning other drones in the past) I think it is more to the taste. Also FYI the drone has a tendency to just "fall out of the air" when flying manual. Especially during flips. This drone should probably be treated as a playfull but fun recording drone. The automation inn it has a tendency to freak out during manual flight. But I have to say. As a simulation gamer and an occasional drone flyer. The motioncontroller is a blast and has made me even avoid using the pro controller. With motion gimbal activated in teh headset it gives you a lot of manouverability. Maybe not things such as flips. But even freefall has been archived using it in combo with the headset motioncontroller. A lot of reviewers seem to just throw it away as a gimmic when it really is not if you get used to it and learn to prefer that. Especially if you are more into having fun rather than doing super risky moves that are more likely to make you crash. I have flown 6 times with the drone now using the motioncontroller. In my last flying I flew through tight places and branches as tight as 1m and smaller. Stil not a single crash... The Goggles also can be used with your own drones. Thirdparty transmitters and cameras are sold which supports the goggles. So if I make a drone in the future I intend to use for more playfull acrobatic flying. I already will have decent goggles for flying that as well.
Love the Avata but I'm still a little hung on the image quality. I feel they're going to make significant upgrades to the image quality when they come out with another FPV drone next year should I just wait for that one? You're the pro though, so I was hoping to get your thoughts on this.
I think it's a perfectly usable image for around 75% of work. In any case you'd need more, you can safely strap a GoPro 11 to it as shown by other reviewers! I think it'll be a bit before a major camera upgrade happens with their FPV drones.
Avata is my 1st FPV drone and is very easy to fly with the motion controller, feel like i can dominate this controller but maximum speed on SPORT mode is not enough for me. I will buy an FPV controller when i get a chance (out of stock everywhere)
Honest review. Thanks for keeping it real and explaining the pros and cons. Seems like a solid drone with key features. I'm still using the DJI Spark. Looking to upgrade and this might be the drone I've been looking for.
That was an amazing review. I really appreciate the in depth aspects of your video. This is the first FPV drone I've ever owned. So far, I like it a lot.
One comment for algorithm. But hey ye you right, it is good entry level fpv toy for fun. With hundreds of hours you get into custom fpv drones anyway laters. Good thing is the Avata development will bring us the new air unit into customs as well ;)
Well. Good review. One off the few that do not complain about the fact that it makes noise while flying and the sdcard slot. Since these two things are simply not a problem at all.
I guess I get it on the smaller package, but the DJI FPV, even with a GoPro mounted, is more capable for 95% of the shots I see the Avata used for in most videos. The only place where the Avata seems superior is on real estate fly throughs, and the dynamic range of the built in camera seems a little weak for interiors. That said, I'll probably buy a good used one next year. I understand how it could be a good drone for new users, but I still think the original FPV drone would be a better fit even there for most people and uses.
100% agree on this! I think it's a fantastic package for many, but relative to proper FPV services/hobbyists, there are plenty of other platforms that would likely be more effective. Overall, I think the continued innovation of FPV components on DJI's behalf is what's noteworthy here!
@@RyanKao I'm one of those guys that didn't want to mess with building at first, but now really enjoy it, so overall I like my 3.5" and 5" custom builds the best. But I still bought a nice used DJI FPV last December, and really love it for cruising and exploring over sketchy terrain. I'm sure I'll enjoy the Avata for certain uses if I ever pick one up. I just put inav 5.0, a gps/compass combo and an optiflow/laser sensor on an older 3" cinewhoop that hadn't seen much recent use.. I'm still tweaking the settings for solid position and altitude hold and it works ok, but I highly doubt I'll ever get even close to as dialed in as the Avata. It could carry a full size GoPro easily if I had one, but so far an osmo action is the best camera I have and it carries it nicely. It is a smooth flier in acro though, so I'd probably be smarter to invest in a GoPro before an Avata.

It doesn't take a whole lot of practice. But again as I said somebody else would have to look at my work and judge my skill level.

He's not keeping it in visual line of sight is the short answer. At 2,500 feet, you won't be able to see the Avata, especially being low like he was chasing the car 14:00
Would love to buy this drone. But I can’t see myself making any profit in filmmaking from it, other then having a few additional cool shots. Otherwise I would consider
you totally forgot to try the motion control without manual control. why I think this drone is the absolute game changer is because of that motion controller. it works so easy that even my grandma (rip) could fly this drone. so if you want to start with fpv drones, this is the drone for you. simple as that.
Man that was killer! I'm local to you in Oregon City and fly Drones all the time (recently certified Part 107, but been in the drone hobby for decades). We should hangout and fly sometime dude! Hey where is that spot sprinkled throughout this edit that is a canyon area with rock towers all over the place? Thought it was Smith Rock for a second and realized it's somewhere I haven't been before.
...wait. so it wasn't the cost or the restrictions on were you could fly that had you leery of the FPV... it was that it needed a CASE OR BACKPACK?! Dude, all my drones sleep in my Hazard 4 backpack or various Hardcases... how is that in any way a issue with delicate things like the drone itself, batteries, display devices like a dedicated tablet or goggles and controllers in a dedicated carrying bag/case so they aren't damaged...?
People cared so much about video capture...... all i care is the feeling of being able to fly.
It does a fantastic job at that for sure haha
Why would you buy a cinewhoop if not for filming?

you totally forgot to try the motion control without manual control. why I think this drone is the absolute game changer is because of that motion controller. it works so easy that even my grandma (rip) could fly this drone. so if you want to start with fpv drones, this is the drone for you. simple as that.
Only real fpv ❤️
...wait. so it wasn't the cost or the restrictions on were you could fly that had you leery of the FPV... it was that it needed a CASE OR BACKPACK?!
Dude, all my drones sleep in my Hazard 4 backpack or various Hardcases... how is that in any way a issue with delicate things like the drone itself, batteries, display devices like a dedicated tablet or goggles and controllers in a dedicated carrying bag/case so they aren't damaged...?
