I love this drone and what you said about durability is completely true. I have crashed it full speed into trees and metal poles and the ground, and it came out without a scratch.
Great review. Regarding thumbing the stick versus pinching it, I think both are considered equally viable in the FPV community. I have to say I've mostly seen pinchers though, as two fingers gives better dexterity than one. Some pro pilots, like "Captain Vanover" and "Mr. Steele", use a hybrid of the thumb and pinch. That is, the index finger touches the side of the stick like it's going to be a pinch, except the thumb sits on top of the the stick instead of the side. Vanover's flying, in particular, is extremely smooth.
I have known people over 65 who still skydive weekly. Being older doesn't necessarily make you incompetent. I do agree that many older folks are less tech savvy, but I always pause when I hear a generalization. Also, I plan to do most of the same things that I do not well into my old age.
Just a thing i noticed :D You just want to loosen the left stick (or the one that throttle is on) The other side is supposed to center. Hope that helps
@@PeterLindgren1 yeah the reason for that is that u want throttle to stay where you put it. But for pitch and roll you want it to return to the center so the drone doesn't continue to roll foreward for example. But i guess if it works it works :D And for the throttle you can adjust the "grip". so how easy it is to move.
What a fantastic video this is. Very informative indeed! Several tech "RUclipsrs" that a follow appeared to release a video on the Avata the split second the embargo was lifted and I must say that a couple of them came across as half assed. Clearly you've spent a lot of time on this and have actually mastered flying it and it comes across in the video. Great job.
Personally i would love to have a bigger avata with the mavic 3 sensor. THAT would be a Gamechanger imo ... but i would even be happy if the goggles would work with the mavic 3 and with low latency ... that would also be a game changer
As a FPV pilot i can say it flies really really well for a cinewhoop i mean the dji fpv was a desaster but the avata has a really nice tune for m mode and its very durable and care refresh is not so expensive like it was for the dji fpv drone. The Avata and the new Goggles2 are really nice, the only thing what i want is full gyroflow support for all FOVs and maybe if it is possible 4:3 in 4K at least in 30fps, oh yeah and 30fps and also 25fps and 24fps are things that i miss.
Thanks Peter, great vid! Yeah, I just pulled the trigger on the Avata. This is my first "air toy" that I have spent over a thousand dollars for. But after your review, I feel much more confident. I got the package that only contains the motion controller. I'm glad I did! The two main reasons I bought this was one, I've always wanted to experience FPV flight experience and two, to get into some entry level videography. I've flown a few lower end drones and fixed wing for a few years now and really enjoy. Mine doesn't ship until the 30th of this month, can't wait! Thanks again for all the information. Stay safe and be well. Cheers!
Hi I'm a little late on the tips but if you see this I noticed that when you do inside flying you throttle it when you crash don't do that it's ok outside but inside just remove all throttle. Great vid very informative.
Best review I've watched for anything new. Very in depth with everything, great walk through of what it is capable of doing, and very informative. Keep up the awesome work
Great review Peter! I’m still just in the simulator but I brought it with me to Spain this weekend, hopefully I will take it for a maiden flight in the mountain! Good work and good flying!
After a week of use I can say that to me the best use is taking advantage of one shot video without cut, filming close elements and then from distance.
Record everything, then cut things later. I have noticed that FPV is good for fast paced shots or short clips that add dynamics to your regular drone videos and are not meant to fully replace regular drone shot in means of quality or stability. Also a good tip is not to steer right after you fly through something and fly a little bit forward, it makes much easier editing and more fluid and stable video in the end. Watching pure FPV shots makes people kind of dizzy.
For me the simulator makes me sick (android phone lacks the fps), but when flying real 1080p 100hz it is much better. 6 people tried it and only 1 got slight motion sickness after few minutes.
I feel like reviewers are scared of being honest. This guy seems cool and open. My worry is the video quality but I guess for the price this is the best you will get.
Great review, thank you for that :) I saw a video when someone attached gopro Black Bones (without LCD and very light weight). This is a good solution for low quality of the camera.
@@PeterLindgren1 give him the controller, put it in Manual Mode and then see if he still thinks it is "a piece of cake" 😁 Seriously, I think it is super nice that you included him in the video!
Taking mine out today it’s all very exciting! I’ve already FCC hacked it because the range in the UK is so crippled! I wish there was a switch to turn the throttle spring on and off rather than having to unscrew inside. It makes switching from N/S to M so slow
@@sahrawee just need to put a text file on the sd in your goggles it’s dead easy. I found a youtube video showing how. I just searched for fcc hack until I found something. There’s a paid app that’ll do it but the text file is free and easy
Best Avata review I've seen! That was great that you included your dad in it to show how user friendly the motion controller is. I'm a drone noob, I just bought my first ever one, a Mini 2, and I think I am going to return it because I find the whole flying experience pretty boring. Just fly here in a straight line, fly there in a straight line, etc. Takes great video, but I think my interest is in FPV. I'm trying to decide between getting a good long range, long run time 5" drone, something like the GEPRC Croc Baby 4 HD, along with DJI goggles and controller, or if I should just get the Avata bundle instead. Both bundles will be roughly the same price, around $1100-1200 before getting any extras, so it's not cheap. I think I will spend another few weeks practising in simulators until a great sale pops up somewhere
I have to correct something you said. The drone will fly forward with the camera at zero, because you can still pitch down, however you will be forced to fly slower in order to see where you are going. In other words, when you increase the camera angle you can fly faster when you pitch down because you can SEE where you are going.
@@PeterLindgren1 Yes, but you made it sound like the camera controls pitch. I got the point because I am an experienced pilot. The beginners your video was targeting probably think that if the camera is at zero and you raise the throttle, the drone will fly vertical. Not true, because the right stick controls pitch.
So good once again. Helpful and very detailed, but not like boring detailed. Captured the essential amount of information into the video. Thank you dear sir 👌
kkkkkk, strap on the back of the camera bag lol, id lose my drone and my camerabag in 45 minutes walking around over here, nice to hear some people live in such safe places. right now i use a weared up 15 years old bag for this reason
I guess this is minor but I would consider "Pause button" as a kill switch rather than M/S/N toggle on the controller. No issues with light leak on the goggles and their fit? I am glad that very poor signal strength was mentioned. Typical in EU. This is a real shame when flying around buildings and it is night and day difference to how good it flies in US with stronger (FCC) power. Great review regardless. Very informative, great shots and editing!
Great indepth and honest review Peter, nice!! Hopefully we will some more FPV stuff from now on 😁 Getting this setup for travel. With my original self build fpv systems I have carry a whole separate bag for that. Those days are over thanks to Avata 😎

this was a really awesome and we'll done review. thanks for not just reviewing this set up but for taking the time and care to really make feel familiar with it. this was so informative and I feel like I really know what I'm getting into before buying this drone and I'm not sure I've ever said that before. dJI and other companies should really lean into your style of review content and send you more stuff. thanks man I really appreciate this! Best review I have seen so far! Loved the in depth chat about the simulator, and how long it takes to feel comfortable to fly manually.
Showing your dad flying the drone was the best way to show how easy is to fly. Great video
Love that "Kill Switch". Sounds rocket science.
Peter coming up with best and honest review, this guy is an OG
This is by far, is what it's like to fly a low level in a Tactical Jet... but without the "hazard" of really being there...

Jep, I noticed that as well! Just the left stick for the best results 😁
Yep, noticed this too!
Yes only reason you can loosen both is for 2 diffrent flying controls.. Some use throttle on the right stick.. So only use throttle stick loose
