  • This video shows the results of a small test I conducted with read gasket maker to see if it is compatible with gasoline. I was wondering if you can use this red gasket maker to seal gasoline components.

So you just dropped a glob of uncured sealant in ethanol/gasoline... Why didn't you give it a chance and let it cure first?

The gray in the red definitely do not work. In less than 24 hours they had both lost their integrity and become wavy little strands of what used to be a gasket. However the Permatex blue gasket sealer does work in conjunction with a gasket, as in if your gasket is old or is aftermarket and doesn't quite fit. However, Permatex is the wrong name for it because it does eventually fail.... I used it because I have a 40-year-old motorcycle and I needed my carbs to work while the gaskets were on order.... it did its job for about 3 weeks before I got another small leak indicating that I had forgotten to order the gaskets at all LOL.
Don't get caught up and get the right gaskets. But that stuff does work well in a pinch.... Permatex in the orange tube it'll say fuel resistant and when you open it you'll realize for no good reason at all it's blue. Like a translucent blue and it stays that way it's weird. It never becomes a gasket it stays tacky

No RTV is fuel-resistant. Permatex makes a fuel resistant gasket dressing but it never hardens or “cures.” Permatex Perma-Shield. It is one of Man’s greatest accomplishments.

Only use seafoam a few days before you do an oil change. Seafoam will cause the viscosity in oil to break down and will not be able to lubricate your engine and likely result in damage.

Here to ask the same question... have you tried the Fuel Resistant kind and did tests?

Yeah was going to ask the same question. Why you conduct a test on a sealant that is not fuel approved makes no since. Permatex Motoseal gasket maker is fuel resistant to all fuels. I had a fuel bowl leak around brand new carb around gasket. Tighten made it worse. Looked online and found the Motoseal. It has a pic of a motorcycle on it. Put thin layer around base of carb where bowl sits on and tighten it up. Let it cure all night till mid morning. Cruised around and didn't smell gas anymore. Been 6 months still no leaks. Good stuff!
