the ghost rider, who was an example of life, of a human being, of a professional, did everything with love and gave 100%, a great loss to the world, what a beautiful example of a human being
Breaks my heart when I see Neil before his personal tragedies. He has so much hurt ahead of him here, and of course didn't know it at the time..... heartbreaking.
It’s interesting bc he’s also wearing a brace on his elbow. So that was bothering him here. That’s the reason he had to stop drumming. What sad for me is right after he stopped and he could finally spend time with his new family he was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer.
I still think about that from time to time. I didn’t know the guy at all I wouldn’t have wanted to but to have a daughter lose her father that young is extremely heartbreaking
Oddly, when this album came out my mother was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer. I listened to it everyday for at least a year. Like all of their music it has been there my whole life through good and bad. Saw them about a month earlier at the Gorge in Washington state. Little did anyone know what was around the corner.....
I lost my baby son that year to brain cancer as well . This album and tour was such an uplifting experience. I was sad ,too sad, when Peart endured loss like we both did. Cancer sucks.
I've been listening to RUSH right from the fly by night album..i am Canadian...huge RUSH fan....thanks guys for over 40 years...these guys helped me through some really hard times....RUSH FOREVER
His life changed tragically shortly after this was recorded. Ghost Rider was yet another illustration of Neil's talent and an inspiration to me after my wife died.
The 2nd set opener. We were all so blown away by 2112 closing the first set (which felt like a whole show in itself) that we couldn't believe there was a 2nd set. This was the first tour they ever did the "An Evening With Rush" so it was new to us to get more Rush for the money. This is still the only tour that Test For Echo the song was played.
First time seeing the guys was on this tour at the old Sandstone Amphitheater in Kansas City. Unbelievable experience! Changed my life that day. I had never seen them perform or even seen a video of them performing, I was just getting into the band @ 21, and they blew me away and I've been a huge fan since : ) Rush taught me to appreciate music and life.
You will never see three guys..who make the sound of 9 musisionns...this was simply one of best bands ever...i have been a rush fan right from the fly by night album....i will die a rush fan
@@PUBHEAD1 the coated heads are not snappy, that's part of the problem for me. Way too warm. I prefer his drum sound from the 1978-1981 era over all others. Clear heads, super aggressive attack that cut right through (ESL is a good example). I did not like the dw sound for him, especially with the coated ambassadors. On a different topic, it's so awesome to see him playing so relaxed here and with traditional grip.
A wonderful time when Rush was breaking out their music, that inspired me. Amazed and comforted by.... Alex Lifeson, what a amazing guitarist! In his own right he lead a new path to progressive Rock, 2112 says it all! The power of Rock, is Rush ! As like you, what a time to live!!! We lost Neil, The memory's of who he is, remains... that's for sure. I've been so blessed by Rush's music, their music helped me deal with life, to relax, take it easy, and think out side the box! Thank you Alex for being there, when I needed a voice, your playing inspired me, and speaks from to my heart!! Thank you!!
I was at this concert in 1997, no one expected what was to come in the following months when Neil's wife and daughter passed that was followed by a 5 years hiatus. But Rush came back in 2002, sadly now with Neil gone, there is no chance of a return. Long live Rush.
Roll The Bones, Counterparts and Test For Echo. My personal "holy trio" of Rush albums, the 90's ones. Yes they're not at the same height of their classics, but they're just so enjoyable to listen to!!
Good trio for the 90s no doubt. I think if you are around 60ish though you have 2112, Farewell to Kings,Moving pictures and Hemispheres as the holy quads
I had tickets for this concert in Hampton virginia. Two weeks before the show was cancelled. Neil's daughter had died. Not to much later his wife passed away. I'm glad you had the strength to come back and perform. RIP Ghost Rider
Every time I see clips from this show I know how happy they are and what terrible events will follow. One of the last concerts before tragedy struck. A few weeks later Neil's daughter died in a car crash and 10 months after his wife died of cancer. And Rush was almost gone for good. It took over four years for Neil to recover and get behind the drums again, to give us more music and joy. And now he is gone too and it seems they will never play again.
It's my #1 winter driving album. The album makes for really good background music. I mean it's not distracting, but at the same time there is a lot of very good musicianship going on.
Masterpiece song from a too much underrated Album! Neil was just so great and Progressive on this one! The best Drummer in Rock History, no offense to anyone else! R.I.P. Maestro Neil 🙏
@@analitikgeometri4986 I was never a big fan of the DW kits but there’s really only three kits that I like, this one, S&A, and the Time Machine. But, even though I haven’t liked some of the DW kits, the snares just sound incredible.
@@analitikgeometri4986 and that's saying a lot. It probably was. I don't prefer the rest of his DW kit though. But his snare sound was so good in the latter part of his career.
I think it’s due to the production on the record. It has a very dry sound in my opinion and feels rather empty at times. That’s an album that could use a remix like Vapor Trails got. There are a lot of hidden gems on Test For Echo!
I totally agree...I think it's because they weren't very popular with the younger crowds in 96/97, therefore being considered classic rock at that point but they were on the top of their game musically on that album. I'm not sure how heavily MTV put the videos they did for Test for Echo into rotation either...That would've helped promote the album more as well.
I remember this show and this year and kind of taking Rush for granted. Wow how fast things change. Both parents gone now too. Miss the excitement of a new Rush album. Rock (played with skill and innovation) is more or less dead
I paid (with fees) $47.50 a piece for 2 - 5th row seats at Marcus Amphitheater in Milwaukee in the summer of 97. I paid over 10 times that for 2 - 20th row seats to this week's Chicago show. #LoyalFan
Seriously, who was Neil? Was he the drummer he became? The icon, the legend...a true living legend until '20. I've read all of his books, I've seen all of his videos, I've seen dozens of live concerts. Which one was he? I know he was an icon, and a bird watcher. I know he was rock star, and the husband/father of the great people in his most personal life. Drummer, author, artist, cyclist, traveler, explorer, lyricist, dreamer, motor sports enthusiast, husband, father.........I truly believe he became the person outside of the "greatest drummer of all time." IDK, I'm becoming sentimental these days. I SOOO appreciate who he was outside of the fish-eye lense, the gilded cage. I believe he was the person outside of the Limelight.
couple of my thoughts - most overlooked album by the boys. 2. Neil's "the Rhythm Method" on this tour is likely his best solo of all of the tours and C. Geddy's voice on this tour was really really great. If you listen closely to the live recordings, his pitch was perfect, and he actually impressed. Say what you will about his voice being annoying or whatever, but he is a really good singer, especially when he is not screeching to hit some obscene high notes. 4. Very sad to think about Neil's tragedies coming soon after this tour ended on July 4, 1997.

A hugely underrated Rush song. The guitar tone is fantastic.
LES PAUL MAGNIFICENCE ! ! !
Absolutely.
I always found it to be one of their weaker album openers.
bad album, their worst. this song was the best one (probably). Like all/most bad rush songs, always cool bits.
@merkaba987 only rush song that ever kinda sorta sounded like tool was cygnus x-1.

Magnificent. Rush is a band best listened to live.
They were unbelievable live
Neils drumming here is just jaw dropping !
He had been taking drum lessons with Freddie Gruber the years prior to expand his view of drumming

Hurts even worse that we lost him :( R.I.P. Neil.....on a positive note...they tried dropped D Tunning here...and it's one of their best songs-imo

Way better still than the studio version, if that is even possible. Geddy's vocals are especially on point here. And that sound...
And, the studio version is fantastic!!
I love the one from the Different Stages CD!
I would have liked some more top end on the drums on the recording … it’s a little too dark and it hides Neils brilliance a bit … just my opinion
How lucky we were to witness these three musicians
VERY !!!!
That is a big powerful man beating the hell of of those drums, masterfully of course. RIP Neil.
Neils drumming on this track is so powerful.

3 best friends making and performing awesome music and traveling the world. They were living their dream.
This song aged well.
This song will never age
You think? Test for Echo is my least favorite Rush album, and I think both the lyrics and the music didn't age well.
Thank you Neil, Geddy and Alex for so many memories and years of outstanding music... you won't be forgotten.

Neil's was always so humble,
just a guy plays drums, which most would consider best in the world,
One of their most underrated songs, true gem mint 10
