That kind of a drying cabinet is a Finnish invention and it's default in every Finnish kitchen. Dishwasher is optional extra, so because of that there were both. By the way, that kind of bikes are called "mummopyörä" in Finland. It means literally "granny wheel" and could be translated as "granny bike" :)
Tbh it's also handy even with the dishwasher because you are not supposed to put certain dishes or kitchenware in the washer anyway, so you know gotta handwash somethings and then put them in the drying cabinet :)
Hamburgers and lemonade are expensive in Finland. If you want to eat out "cheap", on lunch hours you can find places in many cities/towns lunches drink+salad.+main course + bread for 6-9 euros per person, then there are some places where there are "all you can eat" type of things with about 10 euros.

Oulu really is a beautiful city. I've visited a few times. One of those times I walked from the center of the city to Nallikari, where I pitched my tent near to water.
I have a dish washer, but after washing I put most of my plates and cups in the drying cabinet anyway. It's a handy way to store them and you can easily find whatever you want in there.
Regarding the beach you went to, the seabed around the Bothnian Bay (the sea area around Oulu) is still very much rising after the effect the last ice age had on it, so the beaches around Oulu are often extremely shallow to great distances from the shoreline. I mean in some places you can walk up to 100 meters from the shoreline and still easily stand with your head above the water. The reason for this is during the ice age the ice around this latitude was several kilometers thick, and all that weight pushed the earth's crust down a lot, so now that the ice has all melted away the surface is still rebounding from that. The Oulu region is actually where this phenomenon is the most prevalent, with the crust rising an average of 9 millimeters each year even today. The the south of Finland it also happens but it's only 3-5 millimeters per year.
Just stumbled upon your channel and was very excited to see such a thorough and feelgood series of Finland travels! I'm from Helsinki but I find myself visiting and loving Oulu again and again. Will definitely binge watch the rest of the Nordic series tonight! 👏

But at the same time Oulu is a progressive city, great for cycling for an example.
Nice to see you enjoyed Oulu :D i've been living here over 6 years now, in summer this place is one of the best cities in scandinavia, in winter this town is boring haha.
About 50 years ago! growing up, my family made the LONG trip to So. FLA. for our annual vacation. Back then, only in the south, was this ice cream store-"Breslers" which was a precursor to "Baskin- Robbins" 32 flavors. They had a flavor "Licorice Voodoo" which was my favorite, a beautiful black & white scoop, tasting like licorice & cream! Have NEVER seen it again, but still think about It! Thank you for sharing! 😁🍦🍦🍦💙💜💟
Some if not most of the flavors you saw listed at that icecream shop can be found at a market's freezer, selection does vary though. And they're cheaper, but the service and the cones and (hopefully) the sun are added costs :)
I would like to you to come visit in Kotka. It's tiny city in eastern finland and its city center is on the island. Lots of beautiful parks and statues.
Good Morninggggg! I was going to go to Scandinavia this year (and Finland, too!). However, I am exploring the Baltic states instead. Hopefully, I will hit Scandinavia next year. I am glad you are doing some ground work for me!!! :-)
In the UK a dishwasher takes a lot of electricity so - with the rollout of smart electricity meters - you know exactly how much you are spending on electricity in real time. So people increasingly only put very well used stuff into the dishwasher. Like dinner plates and wine glasses :). The latter come up so clean!
Ice cream from those stalls is just ridiculously overpriced these days. You can go to a store and pick a whole tub at the same price you pay for one or two scoops outside.
I am enjoying these videos (but I do always enjoy your vlogs). It looks like someone put a bicycle bell on the front door, but if it works as a doorbell that's the main thing. It is a bit strange to me some countries put their washing machines in the bathroom, ours are always in the kitchen :D
Sometimes those washing machines leak or break down so it's so handy to have them already in a wet room where the liquid goes to the drain automatically without any panic. ;) We have a building code for installing washing machines or dish washers in a non-wet space that include an over-priced plastic floor that has to be installed under the machine. The thing is to protect the building from excessive amounts of water in the case of a leakage or a breakdown. Without one the insurance company doesn't pay anything. The history of washing machines in bathrooms in Finland goes to hand washing in a bucket where handling large amounts of water made a mess in other rooms. Of course, one other place where Finns washed their clothes/curtains/carpets (having a fully carpeted floor is very rare in Finland) is a sauna. Also, running a washing machine in a open kitchen would be quite loud so it's handy (and more quiet) to be able to close the bathroom door. I live in a one-room apartment/flat similar to the AirBnB Josh and Ash stayed in and I can wash clothes while I'm sleeping. I couldn't do that if my washing machine was in my kitchen that would be one of the four walls of my commonroom/bedroom... ;)

They used to be pretty common still a few decades ago. I'd say from the late 70's or early 80's they increasingly got replaced by showers. Perhaps because a shower's faster, smaller, convenient, and uses less water (even though Finland has unlimited fresh water resources). So, if you visit an apartment/house from pre-80's with a bathroom that hasn't been renovated too much, chances are there's a bathtub. Of course some people still today choose to get one also in brand new houses/apartments.
