One of the things I learned very quickly to do was to take my shoes off once I entered someone's home, whether it was a house or an apartment. There was always a little wooden bench by the entrance door where you could sit and remove your shoes. From that point on you walked around in your stocking feet. I'm sure it helps limit the noise going down into the apartment below, otherwise you would hear the thump, thump thump of shoe heels hitting the floor. Finland's ranking is dropping at a breakneck pace. Education had been independent in schools. Now Politicians and senior officials make themselves important and, in their own opinion now, “invent” good new methods and projects to make the system more efficient. The teaching is now mixed up. The ranking will drop drastically. Even officials sites block all commets.
Finland has a population of just over 5 million. It's the 8th most expensive country in world. Has very low immigration. white christian. health care is not free. 53% income tax. high unemployment. government monopoly. 24% VAT. highest government spending in Europe = debt. It is however full of beautiful lovely people and very chilled
Your facts not quite right. The income tax is proggressive, rate is typically around 30% (53% is for super high salaries). Also the VAT varies 10-24%. The health care/med costs have an annual ceiling.
I would like to one day live in Helsinki. I visited there and Tampere this year and loved it. Professionally I am a transportation planner in Virginia with a Graduate degree in urban and regional planning. I speak almost no Finnish. I have no idea if it's even possible to move there and get a job in that field making at least 75,000 euros (my current salary), but I just don't feel attached to anywhere in the US anymore. I definitely liked Finland more than Germany even though I speak German pretty well and studied there. I just don't know if I should start to learn the language if there is a doubt I won't land a career in the planning field at that salary.
There are very simple ways to reduce the risk of disturbing your neighbors if you play electric guitar or have an infant screaming all night for example. It's too big a topic to cover here, but there are certainly tons of tutorials out there.
Hearing your neighbors talking or watching TV is nothing. In our Oulu apartment we hear the neighbours peeing and flushing the toilet all the time. Now THAT is annoying...
It was not that interesting to listen to for me, but I'm glad you're happy 🙂 if the metal hinge on the boxing bag is making an annoying noise, you can probably ask the person to wrap so kind of material there to reduce the noice.
i think some of your excitement was due to culture shock. contrary to popular belief it's not just a negative experience. people immersed in a whole new environment tend to get this, almost like a high that will eventually wear off, followed by a crash and then plateau.
Hearing you talk about the seasons really makes me want to go to Finland! 😊 Btw, I was wondering: when you’re in Helsinki, can you just talk Swedish to (Finnish-speaking) people or will they be slightly annoyed and prefer if you speak English?
You should definitely visit one day! 😊🇫🇮 I speak Finnish when I'm out around the Helsinki area and Swedish if I'm in the southwest where our summer house i, as that area has a large Swedish speaking population 😊
I work in the tourist field and quite many Swedish (speaking) people start with Swedish and I am so glad to be saved from the guessing game of "is this group speaking a language I can give service in or not" :D And hey, det kan hända att den på kassan/cafén osv är finlandsvensk och hellre pratar svenska än engelska :D
@@TheTekuli Years back I worked in a small museum in Helsinki on weekends. That time there were some older Swedish speaking ladies who came in every now and then to check if sufficient Swedish speaking service was available. They were feared by us young Finnish speaking students ;) The museum was privately funded, Swedish language was not required.
I never went to Finland. But all the points you talked about. You also could have for example in Germany. Is there nothing typical on experiences in your life what you only can experience in Finland?

Hullut päivät is like the Finnish Black Friday. Don't go there if you want to stay sane.
Do you mean to stay mentally healthy. Sane means crazy and sane doesn't suit her situation. Anyway it is not good to use the word sane of anybody, but I knew you were not meant to write to stay sane you wanted to mean to get sane.
Did you somehow confuse sane and insane...?
pahvi3 it’s just one department store (although the best maybe).
@@anssiulmala1554 Nope, they meant to "stay sane". Not to "go INsane". Read from the dictionary.
@@anssiulmala1554 always nice to see people correcting others on something that they have entirely wrong themselves
Couldn’t agree more with your feelings! :)
I don’t know where you lived in London but not ALL English homes have double taps and bad water pressure. But yes most the rented places do since they put in the cheapest boilers and taps etc. I’m also finnish but lived in the UK for 20 years and we have a nice shower and single taps 🤪 Can’t hear the neighbours very well either. Haha! By I do agree UK has only spring or autumn and nothing else 😂
Most jobs are 30k-40k/year, but Helsinki is hella expensive to live in.
Hopefully get to Finland one day soon
Maybe is amazing place to live if you have family. Im living here but feel very lonely
I've never been to that part of the world, but I'd like to travel there some day.
4:10 aaahen.. aahen.. aaahen 😂😂😂
This sound is really common in every house
There are very simple ways to reduce the risk of disturbing your neighbors if you play electric guitar or have an infant screaming all night for example. It's too big a topic to cover here, but there are certainly tons of tutorials out there.
Hearing your neighbors talking or watching TV is nothing. In our Oulu apartment we hear the neighbours peeing and flushing the toilet all the time. Now THAT is annoying...
Oh man.... 😬😅😅
Finland my dream home
It was not that interesting to listen to for me, but I'm glad you're happy 🙂 if the metal hinge on the boxing bag is making an annoying noise, you can probably ask the person to wrap so kind of material there to reduce the noice.
Interesting! informative! thanks
We have all the seasons in Scotland, too...rolled into one hour 😂
Hi Vampira
hermoradat ovat lukkiutuneet ikuiseen suomiaksenttiin, maailman kaunein aksentti!
i think some of your excitement was due to culture shock. contrary to popular belief it's not just a negative experience. people immersed in a whole new environment tend to get this, almost like a high that will eventually wear off, followed by a crash and then plateau.
My head Gone to really really really painfull wonderlands when you make old door Sound with your mount
SHE IS A FINN. She speaks Finnish in other videos.
Busted!😆😉
watching your video finland sounds like heaven. is there really no disadvantages there? haha
Lol, gym underneath and a concert on top floor, you should move to Street. It's more peaceful.
Just kidding. 😁
Haha I know, right?! 😂
@@CatCadwallader Thanks for the advice! 😊 Good luck with your thesis!!
Yeah, as a Swedish speaking foreigner you could definitely start in Swedish, and then if you get a blank stare you switch to English 😄👍
Hahahhaha 20th of march spring seems here,,, sponge bob said : 2 weeks later taraaa ta taaaaa snowyyyyyy agaiiinnn
And btw how long to finish your rubiks cube?
Haha I knooow, it's ridiculous!

Give your neighbor the gift of a little machine oil and the boxing bag squeak will go away.
Mimicry awesome 😀 at 4:10 😂
04:09 You are quite good with sounds. Try to be a voice over Artist for Gaming and other media industry 😂 ♥
Took em 1 year to process my EU registration permit. I'm not a criminal or anything. Finally got my permanent address and now waiting for a Kela decision.

Hi Cat it’s nice to watch your videos as you sound very cheerful and one day I’d like go to Finland for a Holliday also have you heard of the Finnish church in rotherhithe south east London as I’d like to visit there and there tourist office in central to prepare myself for my journey anyway that’s it for now so until then take care and cheerio Babe x
What country are you from? Are you living in Finland with your parents? Because as far as I know why I can't push through living in Finland because I can't get or petition my parents so I can live with them.
how to go in finland?i am from.phillipines wish to be there living together with my family
What job do you guys do in Finland?
tell to your neighbour that they could OIL the boxing bag chains etc...
Hi Cat, I used to live in Helsinki a long time ago. I've considered moving back to Finland, but maybe to a more Swedish speaking area. I do speak some Finnish, but I've used Swedish more living in London. What area could you recommend? I don't mind living amongst a small population, but at least somewhere that has jobs available. Any ideas? Åbo is mostly Finnish speaking I think.
I mean you could move to Åland if you don't mind living on an island. Everyone speaks Swedish, and most are bad at Finnish. It only takes a few hours to get to the mainland as well.
Österbotten, Åboland, Västnyland or Åland. The Swedishspeaking areas are rural and small towns but being Swedishspeaking make you a cooler person
Just put a drop of oil on that bag's chain and you will most likely not hear it for another year
