I speak some Spanish but not much. I haven't decided my next language that I'll do long term. I like Korean and Swedish but they aren't super useful. Any you recommend?
Laptop & Flip Flops Oh I speak Swedish! I think Mandarin is also good to learn because the Chinese are becoming very powerful and influential in the world.
Merci! I'm a native english speaker enrolled in French language school full-time. Your videos are super helpful and are a great supplement to my learning!
Excellent!~You have covered one of my favorite topics about French. Living in France I became aware of the very common use of 'là" and relative rarity of "ici". It's an example of how the language is taught to English speakers, often out of textbooks that don't reflect the way native speakers really talk. My favorite example of this is the expression "n'est-ce pas?"" which I don't think I heard a single time during the year I lived in France
This explains why when listening to the French news, I constantly hear 'la'. Thank you thank you for explaining this. I thought it was an article haha!!!
@@FrenchinPlainSight I'm not - I'm in Dorset UK but listen to "France Culture" and "Oui Fm" :) Can you suggest any other good stations? For once I want to hear talking on the radio haha
@@Chris-od5wj I'm not really a radio listener, but would listen to RFI when I was a lower level. They do the daily news summary for learners. savoirs.rfi.fr/fr/apprendre-enseigner/langue-francaise/journal-en-francais-facile
That's true. I never picked up that habit. It's one of those that some French people use and some don't. I'm going to do a video on liaisons soon actually.
Bonjour Alex, I discovered your channel a couple of weeks ago and just wanted to let you know how much I am enjoying it! I am trying to resurrect my schoolgirl French for a trip in February. I created a RUclips account just to subscribe. Keep up the great work! One question - do you have transcripts anywhere or written notes on your episodes? Cheers, Von.
Bonjour Yvonne ! Merci beaucoup for taking the time to do all that just to reach out to me! At least now, RUclips will know to show you my new videos! At the moment, I don't publish transcripts. What exactly would you like to see? I'll look into it for the future.
Laptop & Flip Flops It just occurred to me watching earlier videos that I really should be taking notes, so I’ll have to re-watch them all! But having a written summary of each episode would be really handy to go over afterwards. Merci beaucoup Alex!
Lol, I've listened a few times now. I don't say "againment". That would be some funny franglais though. "And you've got" is the closest thing to that that I hear near that timestamp :)
it's roughly like the difference between "this" and "that" in English, however, French will more often than not use "ça" for both. Cela can almost always represent ça in written French. Ceci is the least used. It comes up in really specific situations and in expressions like the one you've cited.

Your video is always very helpful.do you know any English movie site with French subtitles in it. Thank you.
Netflix is great!
I second Netflix. Just started watching 'Another Life' in French :)
Nice content
You have great pronunciation man like how?
Lots of imitating locals.
mon dieu i love this channel
And it loves you
Oooh, you mist the Voici vs Voilà !!!
And because you like the shortcuts, there are of course the Swee-ci and Swee-là
You didn't do allision (spell?) in "Je suis_en train..." ?

"Againment" lol I think you're getting a bit mixed up there. Great video though.
Lol, I've listened a few times now. I don't say "againment". That would be some funny franglais though. "And you've got" is the closest thing to that that I hear near that timestamp :)
Correction: at 1:56 you say "...again more..." and I heard that as "againment"
Ahhh. No, I threw in some French: Également.
I like to do that to embrace the Franglais/Franglish :p
What about ceci and cela? Ceci n'est pas une pipe.
it's roughly like the difference between "this" and "that" in English, however, French will more often than not use "ça" for both.
Cela can almost always represent ça in written French.
Ceci is the least used. It comes up in really specific situations and in expressions like the one you've cited.
you don't live in SOUTH OF FRANCE but you live in southern france there is a difference
As an English native, you can say both
Unspeakable
Will "schwee" ever become a thing for the French, as "C'est"?
I'm not sure what you mean. C'est is not a shortcut. Schwee is a verbal contraction to speed up pronunciation.
