Dragon Ball" creator Akira Toriyama was initially supportive of the announcement of a live action adaptation and asked fans to treat the film as a different interpretation of his work, but after watching the film he was so horrified at this adaptation of his work that he decided to revive the series with the animated film Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods (2013). He later revealed that he wasn't allowed to have any creative input on the film and all of his suggestions were rejected.

"Goku's fantasy includes strawberries but not nudity" idk what you're on about, because this might be the only thing this movie did right : Goku being more interested in food than sex.
But the narrator included that sin during the segment of the video in which he did NOT consider the original source material. That said, that fantasy part doesn't seem all-too unreasonable even without considering Goku's actual nature, since strawberries seem to be often paired together with sensuality.

The thing that ticks me off the most is the fact that Goku isn't Asian while all the other DB characters are in this movie. Like wtf.

Beltsazar Samosir I know the original version is 8000. I have the Japanese version of Z as well as DBZ Kai. And I've read the manga too. Over 9000 was a mistranslation which eventually turned into a meme.

Fun fact: As of this post, Disney owns the rights to make a live action dragonball. They acquired it when disney bought 20 century fox in 2019.
Don't worry, Disney is has no plans to make a dragonball film and are going to sit on the rights until expiration.

The true live-action Dragon Ball that Toriyama really wanted is one where Jackie Chan portrays Son Goku (he sees no one else except Chan for the role according to Toriyama),
even Chan was on-board with that idea because he also loves both the story and character.
The best opportunity for that to happen was to make Dragon Ball GT (1996 - 97) as a live-action series instead of an anime.
Just so that Leonardo DiCaprio could also play the role of Trunks.

Ok so lemme tell you something, in the original show and manga, Goku is basically a retarded 10 year old who's been living in the woods for the past few years cause he went great ape and squished Gohan (grandpa gohan, not his kid gohan) He's just really stupid, and he meets Chi Chi when he goes to get the dragon ball that Chi Chi's dad, the Ox King has. Chi Chi tries to fight him, and chi chi is also 10 or so, and she loses. Then Goku taps on her vagina to see if she was a girl. Skip forward to when Goku is 18, and he enters the world martial arts tournament and fights her, not realizing its her, beats her in the match, then she tells him who she is, and then he's like, "oh yeah, you're a pretty lady and I promised to marry you at some point and then just ran off. Oh, and you love me? Cool. Let's get hitched." Then we skip to the beginning of DBZ and it turns out he has a kid now. But does not know the meaning of the word sex. So again, he's still kinda retarded. He got dropped on his head as a baby so it makes some sense, but still. Not exactly a good relationship model.

If Goku treated everything like "one big fight", what would be your reaction? Cause frankly the only times when Goku acts "smart", is when he thinks about fighting.
This movie could have worked, if... Goku had no idea who he really was, and his grandpa wanted to keep that from him. To protect him from his savage past.. Then, having him go to school would have made sense, not showing us their training before hand, and when Goku gets into a fight, he shows off unique abilities that get unlocked because he was in a fight or flight scenario and his natural instincts kicked in. When grandpa dies, and he meets Bulma they can go to Master R. Island, Master R. knowing Grandpa Gohan can explain Goku's Ape origins and powers, the stuff Grandpa Gohan knew at least, and we could have went from there. Just saying, they could have at least saved that mistake had they gone that route.
It's like the only things they knew about the original Dragonball are these.
1. A dragon that comes from balls and grants you any wish
2. Goku is raised by Gohan
3. King piccolo
4. Goku can turn into a monkey
5. Bulma and Roshi
6. Ki
7. Goku meets a girl named chi chi
That actually sums it up, nothing else!

vsmith smith Uub fits the very definition of the word disappointment. He seemed like he would become a badass when he was introduced at the end of Z. Then when GT starts, his training is finished and he fucks completely off until near the end of the Baby arc, where he has ONE cool moment where he fuses with Majin Buu to become Majuub, but then immediately gets beaten and eaten by Baby and does nothing else for the rest of the series. I wanted to like him, but he ultimately become a much stronger version of Goten. He seemed to have a lot of potential, but in the end he contributed virtually nothing to the series beyond just adding more fodder for villains to pummel until Goku swoops in and saves the day. At least the writers of GT kept up the Toriyama tradition of wasting potentially awesome side characters in favor of giving Goku more time in the spot light.

The 1 great thing about this movie, was it finally got me to watch the Dragon Ball Series, because I got into the series with Dragon Ball Z and was content with that and I'm happy I watched Dragon Ball now.
Bulma as we all know is a loud mouthed, blue haired rich kid who is the daughter of the richest man in the world and is seeking the Dragon Balls so she can wish for the perfect boyfriend, and ends up becoming a babysitter/big sister figure for a YOUNG Goku. But here she's just a discount Lara Croft

Actually, Goku was 16 when he defeated King Piccolo. If anything, he should look older in the manga. Not that this justifies this horrid shit stain of a movie in any regard, but yeah.
Edit: to elaborate, Goku defeated King Piccolo on May 9th, Age 753, and was born sometime in Age 736. If he was born early in the year, he might have even been 17 by then. Also, it should be noted that while in the manga he was born in Age 736, "Bardock: Father of Goku" implies that he was born in Age 737 (he was a newborn when Planet Vegeta was destroyed), which would make him 15-16 by the defeat of Piccolo.

This movie I can't. I've watched the trailer, so stupid, watching how all the errors were in this movie made me cringe to the maximum. All of the movie is so inaccurate with the TV series.

3. Master roshi is the pervert of the series along with being a wise man

You know what? I’m fine with redesigning characters because some designs just doesn’t work well in a life action setting. For example, Transformers. Their designs were decent and suits the realistic feel that they’re supposed to give off. Until the entire Knight bullshit after 4 and 5.
But their biggest sin is of course flipping off the source material. Goku is basically fueled by hormones, Chichi is a fight slut, Bulma is just there only for her dragon ball locator, Yamcha was somehow done way dirtier then what they did to him after Z, Krillin, Tien and Chiaotzu weren’t even in the movie (but that’s a bright side from a certain point of view), Piccolo and Mai were sh*t villains and I actually don’t mind Roshi that much.
The reason why I’m fine with him is probably because the rest of the cast were so terrible that his character felt like a masterpiece in comparison.

I've watched this so many times and realized something interesting. Instead of Goku, what if they made it to Gohan's story after Cell Saga. It makes sense: highschool life, ig his crush is Videl, idk how they would introduce Buu. idk Gohan just seems like that type of an awkward teenager, like in the actual anime.

Apparently, a lot of people haven't seen the show since I keep seeing comments saying Goku's son was Gohan, not his grandpa. His son was named after his grandpa.
