Un oh.....Faye is becoming an engine builder instead of an engine assembler. That can an extremely rewarding. And expensive if you start buying tools....lol.
Real engine building is a dying art and guys like Danny are few and far between. Most of them with knowledge like him are old grey beards, and at the tail end of their careers. Learn from him whatever you can!
What would we do without the Danny guys to teach us. God bless these men and ladies that feed our need to know. Thanks Faye. Thanks Danny.
This probably the best 7M technical content I have seen on RUclips. 🤙
OH MY GOSH THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!
I ❤️ the way you said “My heart is so full”. You were being present in the moment and you filled up your ❤️ tank.
Aww exactly!!!😅
Fellow Texan and Toyota driver and enthusiast here! I have been enjoying your super helpful informational Supra videos. I have gotten myself into a lot of work I wasn't prepared for (not a trained mechanic, a new found self discovered DIYer) in attempt to perform a needed head gasket replacement on my '06 Tacoma with 218K miles and then hopefully more to come.
Entertained by your cute chicken love, but more importantly I am so grateful for the information I've already gained from your video and will be watching many more very soon.
Awww thanks so much for your sub, I really appreciate it! And head gasket on an '06?? Wow, what happened?? 4.0??
Just the little engine, a 2.7L. And I finally FINALLY got 'er finished just last night!! I did not know what a challenge I was going to be getting into taking the entire project on by myself until. It was too late, but I can honestly say that your videos full of knowledge from both you and Danny were a motivating guiding light that made it possible. Thank you again for your awesome smile, your perky spirit and all of the dedication that so clearly goes into your channel to make your daily grind become shared information/entertainment for the world to find. I am now and will always be FOREVER a FAYE FANATIC!
Ooh, and I had to embark on the repair issue due to the engine overheating due to my slow response in treating the coolant leak that first developed from my corroded coolant bypass pipe (OEM it comes from the factory as a doomed part as it it a plastic pipe in a very hot area of the engine, but has been updated in later year models to be a more suitable metal pipe.) The 05-06 as far as I know we're manufactured with this coolant bypass pipe made of ceramic/plastic that is bound to fail after reaching the "high mileage" (150k+ miles) stage of life. I hadn't discovered all of this until mine had reached the failure stage and then after repairing it, I believe it was just a downhill struggle as I had probably done the repair too late and the damage had been more extensive throughout the cooling system, combined also with my attempts before repairing the bypass pipe to quick fix my leaking coolant issues with stupid products such as Radiator Stop-Leak that potentially compounded the issues at hand rather than fix anything. That said, it was at the 200,000 miles and beyond point that I began having major issues with overheat almost everytime I drove the truck, that ultimately led to my decision to tackle the head gasket repair job myself after being quoted by a mechanic $4000 to do the job. I learned ALOT doing it myself, and it only ended up costing around $1400 total (new headgasket, radiator, water pump, thermo, etc.) by doing all the labor myself. I can honestly saw that I have gained a new found appreciation for the difficult, and more often than not frustrating, work that you and other mechanics do on the daily!!
The chickens need some overalls so they can put in work on the Supra.
To be that close to the bottom end..it would drive me crazy not to pop the pistons out and clean the bottom of the cylinder walls and ring lands ..but it'll be fine..
I am with you on that, just a little more work and it would be perfect.
I used WD40 to dissolve and clean off the carbon on pistons. Super easy with a plastic brush. I let it soak for a little.
Good job 👌🏽
Thanks for the update Faye! I learn something new in every vid you shsre.
Stay safe.
Appreciating the knowledge being presented from these videos. Thanks 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾. Waiting on what comments Danny has regarding the oil pump, engine oiling, and the oil cooling system..
Hi Faye. I've been really enjoying your work on MotorTrend, and your working at home episode was the best! It confirmed my belief in car therapy. Working on my Mustang always makes me feel better about life and myself. Keep up the great work!
Thank you!!
Great stuff and the birdies at the end are always a delight!
Little Harmey makes the cutest sounds ever ... and that video was super cool!! ... I remember honing just one cylinder on a Briggs & Stratton lawn mower engine/motor & I thought that was cool BUT this was amazing!! .. an art!! ... thanx Faye!!
Your the best Faye really enjoy watching you work your positive energy is infectious keep it up!! You have a great laugh too!
You are so lucky to have a best bud like Danny 😁 love learning and watching
Love it as always! It's great to see Danny give advice based on "what works" and not "what the forums say" hah. We all know people who think they are experts and tell you what you should never do, but haven't been 100 feet from what they are talking about. I think I'm going to be almost as excited as you when this engine is back together!
Thank you Faye for the video, it went by fast. I can't wait to hear the engine run. The chicken looks happy.
Hi Faye. Love the Supra saga. You guys are awesome!! Be safe.😎😷 🇵🇷
Your block looks pristine, it's going to run so good! ☮️
If you have it that far apart to begin with, why not pull the pistons out?
Love listening to that guy speak. Thx!
Very exciting to think that it ready to go back together....
I just watched your special on Wrench Therapy. Ima sub and go feel feelings now. Thank you. *starts slow clapping*
I absolutely love the complicity you have with Danny #hillcountryperformance. Can't wait to see the engine running, hopefully on the test bed or even on the Dyno ! Would be great to see how much it will be putting out. You sure making our confinement and isolation more entertaining. My Best wishes to you Danny and Shopmom!
I completely love your attitude towards everything, your so great!!!.. your significant other is very lucky to have you but them chicks too!!!.. lol I want one of them chickens so badly!!! Much love from CT, keep it up....
Watching this video gets me motivated to do my engine on my toyota supra too. I can't wait to see the finished outcome.
Thank you!!!!
Another great video, thanks Faye.
As long as The rings seat properly, its gonna run great . What's up from NYC!!!!Be safe!!
Looking forward to future road test an performance test with this engine!
I use laquar thinners in the piston tops after cleaning any carbon off, they come up like "as new" 😁😜😎
HELL YEAH HEY ITS FAYE SUPRA SAGA IS AWESOME!!!!!!
you guys rock
Thank you!!!!!
Rings and brake shoes share the glaze effects. Pretty good insite!
Faye having danny, shop mom on your live stream is a great move!! A lot of people love u! Including me! Keep up the great vids!
Awww thank you so much!! Yes! I feel such gratitude for their presence in my life. Hanging out with Danny and Shop Mom is like being with family 💜
I didn't knew that such tool, that weird thing on the drill, existed and what it'll be used for; but one thing it's clear, that now those pistons heads and the cylinder shirts look really good. Looking forward for more. Stay well
Dingle ball hones are the quick way to refresh cylinder walls if you're just doing a ring job..
@@stevenbauer7744 I never seen that thing before; i'd seen a drill head like a... sharpening stone?, it left the cylider entirely flat, shiny and everything, and the walls kept being apparently 90º/flat.
This is great..actually you will have almost new engine..i love how you working slowly with patience on any details on engine.i hope you will make video very soon when you finally start mk3 and drive it....❤❤
Oh I definitely will!!! Thank you!
a light scour pad is what I use to get the stubborn stuff
Again great video! Bravo.
So, glazing of the cylinder walls is over-smoothing leading to poor ring sealing... which can be caused by ... burning oil? Or sub-par tolerances?
And, what part of the piston gets similarly glazed? The rings?
Learning so much watching this series. Thank you!!
I was watching a great video until the blank screen came up and said to be continued damn that was good can’t wait to see your next video keep up the good work
Great job Faye. Did you ever try using Seafoam to remove carbon ? That stuff works pretty well as I use it for throttle bodies. Glad you brought it back to Danny as it might've been ugly if you just installed the new head on the old block.
Looks Great
That was fantastic again. Exactly the stuff I’m interested in. Improvising. I’m just wondering how to keep oil out next time? Catch can and pcv delete? Is your egr still hooked up? Guess I’ll find out when you stuff engine back in car.
I'll address the oil problem in later videos for sure!!!! Thank you for your interest!!!!! 😃 I don't have EGR anymore but I'm not sold on catch can yet....
The crosshatch pattern is there to hold oil and lubricate the rings ....
Wow you made that fun to watch!!
Thank you!!!!!
Thanks great video and it is looking good 👍
Great Video 👌
Try GM heat valve riser it will dissolve the carbon. It's amazing
Awesome vid.
What's up Faye, flexin the biceps again I see lol 😂🤣😹🔥🙈😁
Hi Fey and Danny, I enjoy your videos..... I have a question for you both..... have you or Danny have come across an engine that was running good and pulled out of the car because of a different issue not engine related but that engine sat for a while , heads where removed for porting but unfortunately the short block was left out and the weather got to it.... it had Ross aluminium pistons and h beam rods &crank still in it and now rust is on the cylinders 😭. Is there a way I can remove the rotating assembly (pistons) with minimal damage?
Peace of Mind is worth the extra effort!
I was waiting and waiting seeing nothing but black screen and was about to say where the heck are the after video chickens dammit??? And then there ya were holding a chicken...lol 👍love the content girl 😍
BAAAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAAAA
I think I have piston envy, lol!
They Faye what does Damny think of Arias pistons¿?
B12-chem tool will clean that carbon off but it stinks and can remove paint cost like $3.50 at wallmart
Nice
Faye any relationship to Lee Hadley from Houston? He use to race a blue Chevelle Malibu on the street in the Oak Forrest area in the 70s or early 80s. There wasn't anyone that could beat him it seem like. I also enjoyed your video
No relation, and thank you!!
Hey you should add a vacuum pump to scavenge the crankcase.
Danny being the master machinist that he is , I don't understand why he didnt have you pull the pistons to properly clean the carbon out of the ring lands and replace the rings , you never got all the nasty carbon cleaned out of the ring lands .then do a proper deglazing of the cylinders .
What tools do you use to take the cylinder head out ?
What did you use to get the tops of the pistons so clean and shiny? Not the utility knife blade..
Went back in with solvent and 3m very worn abrasive pad
no one should be allowed to have this much fun!
I thought you would end up pulling the engine, Faye 👍
Nailed it!!!
You know they did that To Be Continued ....... with the VHS release of Back to the Future. You mentioned you are reading a book . I hope its the Smokey book . Its a little shocking to be honest, he was one wild and crazy guy. Our mentor said we need to get to page 90 . wink wink . I have 36 to go before Wednesday . I didn't know chickens liked being picked up. In Rocky the chicken ran for its life.
Such a powerful lady! My lady seen your peacock tattoo now she watches
Faye Hadley I know I'm probably dumb but what year is your supra? I almost bought an 82 or 83 in early 90s.
I would have just re ringed it also.
5k miles on the rings!
@@FayeHadley right on
You dont know the ring gap you could have blow by.
Out of curiosity, are those forged pistons you have installed in the engine?
Yes 👍🏻
Hey Faye, seeing the supra brings back a lot of memories though I never had to tow mine matter fact the entire time I owned it I really never had to do anything to it I change the fuel filter just for maintenance sake inspected the spark plugs brakes all were just fine, The engine looks awesome I’m sitting here giddy The chicks and the supra are lucky to have you here’s to getting back to normal soon go Texas!!🐔🐔🐔👍
Seafoam works
Dingle ball hones leave a relatively rough finish compared to stones or diamond brushes... im not sure id ever do that to an engine i wasn't going to clean again before assembly. I'm sure it will be fine.
Thats why she used the dingle berries. The rough finish helps the rings seal and helps with keeping the cylinder from glazing.
...the claw on the hand that holds the thing with claws....
Straight Seafoam cuts carbon like nothing else I've seen. Better than carb or brake cleaner.
It won't do much when the carbon is hardened like it was. It's pretty much like a rock at that point lol. But seafoam does work when it's fresh carbon.
Faye, You have the engine out. Don't bandaid it, you have the best teacher by your side. You have found such bad work already go the extra mile. Pull the pistons and the rings and mic the block. If it's good hone out the cylinders, put new rings in and put the engine together there while you are still at the shop. Then, put it on the dyno, break it in and see how much horsepower it makes. The goal is to have a car that runs.
I assembled the bottom end, actually- not them, so I'm not worried about my work. I know it looks like I should have addressed this more because of all the negative comments on here......
I am not a mechanic so this is not an argumentative question, but rather a technical "I don't know" question. As long as you are being super critical with the cylinder walls and piston tops, wouldn't the rings have some contamination too? Why not pull the pistons and ensure the rings are clean and ready to go as well? It seems that there is cylinder surface you aren't getting to as well and pulling the pistons would allow the whole cylinder to be "deglazed." I am obviously missing something.
Just asking. I am a computer geek and am here to learn.
No problem I'm happy to answer!! I performed a leak down test before pulling the engine and so I'm very confident that the rings are in great shape and I also assembled the bottom end so I I'm not worried about someone else's work and double-checking it I feel very confident that I did it right the first time and I also have a trick for cleaning out the piston rings while the Pistons are still installed which I'm going to show you in a future video!!!!!
but a lot of this series is showing what can be done by the regular person at home. Not everyone would have the confidence to tear apart their bottom end and remove their crank or yank their Pistons. Honing here was good cheap and easy insurance but not even super necessary!!!
The leak down test. I never even considered that you did that, which clears this up. Now the small area at the very bottom that you aren't able to hone or whatever (the part between the top of the piston and the rings themselves) is a trivial amount of cylinder wall and nothing that you all are worried about. This is all cleared up now. Thanks for the education.
What is your procedure for breaking in an engine Danny?
Will address this in a later video when that time comes for this build!!!!
Awesome. thanks there are so many different ideas on this subject. thanks for all the great video's and time you guys take to bring them to us.
Interesting video, but it`s a little bit strange to me, why are you not replaced piston rings? If pistons were covered with burnt oil carbon and factory hon almost vanished, then piston rings should be covered in carbon too. They may not take off oil from cylinder walls properly, which cause extended oil consumption and you`ll be needed to rebuild engine again soon enough...
The whole engine's junk after this dodgy hone job anyway
Ten chicken video! ;)
Go Live!!!
They're live with the book club on wednesday and happy hour on friday.
you were right there, why the shortcut?
??? What do you mean? I thought I explained all the stuff in the vid! Correct me!
@@FayeHadley why hone it with the Pistons still installed? Why not re ring it? Your oil scraper rings are most likely packed with carbon, it's possible your rings did not seat properly cousing the glaze. I'm not trying to hate but since your going all out I don't get why you did it that way. Hopefully it'll be fine.
@@richardt1293 Also the rings are new, I think less than 5k, is what she said.
I assembled the bottom end, so k feel confident about it and the engine had great leakdown when pulled, so I don't suspect any issues 👍🏻
@@FayeHadleyas long a your confident, just seems kinda silly to dingle berry it without removing the Pistons.
Why are you so beautiful and happy? Another great video Faye keep them up!!
Ur explanation at the start of this makes me wanna yank the block out of the c10 and send it to the machine shop
Haha is that a good thing?!!!🤣
@@FayeHadley u gave me motivation to NOT cut corners, so yes. lol
believe it or not but OVEN CLEANER does an amazing job destroying carbon buildup even the hard stuck on carbon, eats it like candy and easy to remove! Works great on lifters harden sludge...
I dont they do anything real small or something that helps you out.
Carbon can be from burning oil but also a horrible tune. Without seeing your plugs and valves I would bet it's more of a tune issue instead if oil
Just put new positions in it please
I like white engines....They show the leaks
Lee Huntley Danny uses white or silver on the back of blocks he builds.
You think if you got an oversized turbo it might burn a bit of oil? You think if you up the blow off pressure it might burn a bit of oil? That's normal when you build up a stock engine to make more power, you gotta take it apart and clean it all the time.
I would never scrape aluminum with a steel blade, maybe that's just me I don't like scratches on the piston because deposits start there and make the engine ping.
It's okay, you don't have to! I'm pretty good at it but I've been doing this stuff for a while. They came out perfectly 👌😊
Why don’t you just take the Pistons out HoneThe block and put new rings that you’re this far into it
I explain this in the video!
Might be an idea to social distance from chickens, seeing how there was avian flu in the past. So don't kiss your chickens
Get your tools second hand, lol.
My dream girlfriend! Super hot girl with awesome personality that loves to work on and play with cars. Faye your beautiful
I need a woman like you so we can work on vehicles together
Watching this, I think Faye needs to mix it up a little and wear some colorful clothes.
Nothing wrong with black and I understand the theme she's got.
It's just she seems so full of life, she should show that off.
Are u a vegan
Keep waving your hands over that block and it will bite you, lots of sharp bits there, your lack of experience is showing.
Keep running your fingers over that keyboard. Your projected insecurities are showing.
That's funny!!!🤣 I built engines for a living at the last job I had before starting my business. I have already cleaned the surface of the block like the last video that I made. You should check it out! I bet it will be helpful to you!☝🏻
