I could be cool to see a storage slice that loads boxes with an item and also sorts whole boxes at the same time. Ive only managed to combine two bulky build with an ugly hopper line
That is basically the only solution to having both box sorting and box loading in the same slice, because the box loader and box sorter are both very bulky systems and they need to feed into the same input. So the only way to have both is to have a bulky solution.
I'm way too dumb with redstone to fully understand these systems without a lot of time figuring them out but i really appreciate these videos explaining the individual parts of the system. I'm excited to see your full storage using these new innovations.
Okay I haven't even watched the whole video yet, but, zero ticking a couldron into a shulker box to pick it up is bananas and fantastic. You could even piston-block-conveyor it into other places in it's item form perhaps?
I was looking for a good bulk storage slice, but wasn't sure where to find one. This one using stacked cursed books is amazing and I love it. Thank you for the awesome video! The rest of the stuff is cool but probably too much for my purposes. Still, awesome job!
Nearly all my solo world storage comes from Cubic’s builds. He makes the tech easy to understand, which allows me to adjust the machines to fit my needs. If I could subscribe twice, I would. Cheers to you, Cubic
Interesting tech, especially the shulker box color sorter (much smaller than Optic's/Barcelona's). I think it would be worth mentioning somewhere that stacked shulkers WON'T work as stacked unstackables if you also have the emptyShulkerBoxStackAlways rule from carpet-extra turned on.
Love your work! I especially love the overloaded item filter, I use an inferior design all over the place to catch big stacks, I shall be moving over to this design in future! I also love the shulker contraptions for the floor, ingenious and handy! Will probably steal some of those too! :P
"we can pick them up and start crafting.... Oh my God" 13:35 lol love this. Have to say although most of this goes over my head especially at the beginning and least by the end I have a general idea of how to build whatever is shown and not just copying it without any understanding in what I did.
The item filter with the stacked non-stackable items is revolutionary. Not only does it have more capacity to handle item bursts, but it is also much more stable than the standard item filter. If one of the filters is not setup properly, it will not affect the neighboring slices in any way, unlike the standard filter.
One idea i had for preparing resources for a proyect is that you can throw the items you need from the chest, and colect them from the floor, and sending it to a shulker box filler. So you can go though the storage room, throwing items in the floor, and have the shulker box with all you need ready without doing it manually. Not sure if its been done yet.
The problem with this concept is that using item scroller the player can fill shulkers with resources much faster than any box loader, making the addition of a box loader simply inefficient when the player can just move the items instantly.
I think gnembon changed the carpet mod in 1.21 because with the overstacked item filter, the shulkers give the comparator output of 64-stackables for me. As well as that I think the books trick is patched.
currently building a system which uses your overstacked filters, learned the hard way that u cant carry those stacked books in a shulker, it will unstack them and delete the rest
It would be pretty cool if mojang added stackable shulker boxes, but under a different entity ID like empty_shulker_box. That way they don't need to restructure all the code that handles stacking
That's why i play bedrock. We can move anything opening up or worlds to do many 1 wide tileable circuits. I've made a 1 wide tileable hopper clock moving a hopper with sticky pistons
I have a small doubt. The reason of putting composter on top of hopper is that it only collects the bonemeal from the composter . So how does the the hopper collect the box thats inside the composter.
Curious as to why you didn't want to use the Scicraft Blitz' mass crafting system? While it is slower, it didn't seem to have any chunk boarder issues and a very easy interface for crafting mass boxes as well. Loving the videos and learning more and more about storage tech!
The chunk border alignment isn't an issue with the design, just a limitation set by how the game processes item entities. the mass crafting system in Sciblitz is a bog standard box unloading array which is only really pheasible for much larger crafting operations. This dolphin based design is much faster, smaller and easier to use for small crafting jobs.
So, for the shucker sorter. Since they can’t be automatically stacked into chests, wouldn’t it be better to just manually load the chests with shulkers anyway?
maybe some can help me here, I am currently not quite sure what the differences between the chest-haul-box and the box-display-box in either functionality and use case. One guess might be that the chest-haul-box should never be full being replaced when it fills by an empty one and the other box being ideally never empty as I would be replaced by a full one, is that correct?
These designs are awesome! However, unfortunately the neat trick with 'curse of' books do not stack in a grindstone on paper servers. Is there a way to undo this in the server settings?
For the Shulker Box sorter - couldn't you just stack two sorters vertically, each sorting 8 colors? That seems like it would be a much simpler solution.
You need to consider the symetries of the system you are working with, in this case we are designing the mechanism around the fact that hoppers can only pull item entities from their top surface, meaning a system where the items fall down a drop chute would not match this limitation set by the hoppers. Instead we dispense the items in the same slice corresponding to the hopper that collects that same item then launch the items over the top surface of the hoppers. Having this 1 to 1 correspondence between hoppers and droppers makes returning the item to the dropper much simpler. Imagine trying to do this with a vertical drop chute, it would be a nightmare.
He probably meant to use a second operation with a whole second sorter built below the first, using the non-sorted output chest from the top sorter as an input for the second sorter. Then you have everything contained within the one chunk, just have to do a second round of drops and sorts if any of the colors don't get picked up by the first round. Course your demo is a 7 color sorter so a double would be 14 and at that point the simpler sort being run twice and still not hitting the 16 colors of shulkers means the 16 sorter doing it all in one operation would be better unless it's dramatically more complex to build or run for some reason.
I actually would prefer to use the manual skulker filler system (10:33) in a way that you can get the items (empty Shulker Boxes) and throw out the full ones. Because I would like it more to just run around in the storage and fill my Shulker up and break it with a pickaxe, than to always run to a specified spot. Because you would always have to go forward and backward and it would be kind of like more tedious and annoying than always breaking the Shulker Boxes. (my expectation would be that this system is used once ore twice and then you would never use it anymore because it is in theory a good and fun thing but if you use it longer than it would not longer be used because it is just faster to mine the Shulker per hand (In my opinion the way you run is more annoying (to the item you want than back to the shulker box instead of getting to the item and just having to place the shulker if your Inf is full and then break it ) )) The feature that would be more interesting instead of the black shulkers, in my opinion, would be a way of having a "variable" storage where you can throw out your shulkers out of your Inventory (when it gets to full) and store it in a storage that you just assigned to your self at the beginning (getting in the storage) as long as you going to need it to get all your items (my idea would be a interface at the entry of the storage with I like 3 lamps and in every big storage slice you would have instead of the black shulker fillers one of the three storage slices accessible where you can throw your stuf in and get the next stuf you need for a big Projekt and you could access the items at a fixed point int the middle of the storage ). I hope you had a lot of fun reading this XDD
When sorting shulkers, can you sort more than 16 by stacking it vertically? E.G. all shulkers that go into the "unsorted" box (shown in the first shulker sorter) get cycled into a machine below?
I'm really considering using a design by you for my new storage system. But I don't use any Carpet features making some of these harder to follow to make sure I can actually use this vanilla.
They should all work in vanilla, the main issue is that handling large amounts of empty shulkers is simply more difficult in vanilla without the stackable box mechanic. However it does not affect the functionality of the designs at all. The overstacking item filter however is probably not very worthwhile to make in full vanilla.
I know it's offtopic, but since there is a good chance to someone with enough game knowledge reads this: When I try to update my world to 1.18.1 most/all of my chests turn invisible and their contents are removed (I assume this to be the case for other container blocks as well, but didn't even bother to check). I do use fabric carpet mod and some other mods as well. Itemscroller, litematica, lithium, sodium, tweakeroo,.... Hey CubicMetre I’m currently working on a bedrock version of the ultimate storage slice and I have a few questions Is there any way to sort box’s with the same item in every slot? Like maybe dispense box’s on a item sorter and if it can pull though items and somehow know, refill the items taken and then pick up the box? I learned earlier today while working on this that you can pickup box’s with hoppers and pistons but I’m having a hard time figuring out how to refill the box’s
Unfortunately there is know way to definitively determine if a box contains only one item type, because all external properties that you can infer about a shulker box such as it's fill level and the item in the first slot give no indication as to what items occupy most of the box. So the only way to be certain that a box contains only one item type is to fully empty the box and fill it up again, at which point you may aswell sort the items individually.
Has anyone tried to make the item input on a paper/pufferfish server? I tried it but the dropper that normally gets triggered when you open the shulker box does not seem to get triggered here (it stays activated?) does anyone know how i could fix this?
On the world download the main storage you show at 12:17, is there an issue with the item filter for the portion that goes into shulker boxes? I couldn't set the filter, but when I changed the hopper to point at the ice block (instead of down) the filter worked.

Is there any way to sort box’s with the same item in every slot?
I tried it but the dropper that normally gets triggered when you open the shulker box does not seem to get triggered here (it stays activated?) does anyone know how i could fix this?
where can I find the new design of the storage slice?
On the world download the main storage you show at 12:17, is there an issue with the item filter for the portion that goes into shulker boxes? I couldn't set the filter, but when I changed the hopper to point at the ice block (instead of down) the filter worked.
It's because those were 2x speed filters that need to be prefilled as per my instructions when I introduced the overstacked filter.
Thank you for the response! I had only watched like 20 times and hadn't caught that yet ;) I got it now, this is just amazing.
